S.G. Goodman Instore Performance, Album Signing & Record Release Celebration

We hope you can join us in the record store on Friday, June 20th at 5:00 PM, as we celebrate the release of Planting by the Signs, S.G. Goodman’s third full-length album. She’ll be hanging out with us, performing a short set of songs from her new album, signing copies of Planting by the Signs and answering questions from event attendees. All who preorder the new record from Grimey’s—either on our site here or in the record store—will receive a wristband with purchase. Wristbands are required to participate in the album signing portion of our event for all 13+; kids 12 & under don’t required a wristband if attending with a wristband-holding adult. Space in the shop is limited and wristbands also guarantee event entrance.

S.G. Goodman was raised in Western Kentucky on the Mississippi River Delta, in a strict church-going family of row crop farmers. She went from singing in church three times a week to becoming a prominent member of the Murray, KY indie scene and an impassioned voice in the political and social movements she supported. Goodman philosophically explores modern applications of the ancient tradition of planting by the signs in the only way she knows; with a fresh musical and lyrical perspective, vivid, incisive detail, and a heaping dose of empathy and compassion. In 2023 Goodman was named the Americana Music Association Awards “Emerging Artist of the Year.”

And now Goodman returns from the Western Kentucky bottomland with her latest full-length album, Planting by the Signs on her very own Slough Water Records via Thirty Tigers. Composed of songs inspired by love, loss, reconciliation, and the aforementioned ancient practice - how planting a garden, or weaning a baby, or getting a haircut are best timed in accordance with the cycle of the moon. A concept diametrically opposed to the tech-obsessed, profit margin-driven mania swirling around us. Through exploring themes related to planting by the signs, Goodman hopes to help herself and others reconcile this jarring disconnect, as well to pass along the story of the practice. Eleven tracks highlighted by the critically-acclaimed and award-winning artist's singular voice and her penchant for juxtaposing vulnerable folk music with punchy rock 'n roll, replete with chiming guitars, ethereal atmospherics, and her DIY ethos. Goodman provides a timely reminder that the only way forward is together, and that we must always take into account humanity's dependence on and responsibility to the natural world.

Don’t miss your opportunity to catch Goodman’s intimate instore performance, ask her questions and get your copy of Planting by the Signs signed! We’re very excited to be hosting her and celebrating this new album. See you soon, Nashville!

Future Crib Instore Performance & Album Celebration + BEER:30

Join us on Saturday, July 5th at 4:30, aka BEER:30, for a free & all ages instore performance and album signing by Nashville’s own Future Crib! The band just released their 4th LP Impossible Songs, they’ll be performing at Row One with for Grimey’s staff faves Being Dead on June 19th, and they’re heading out on tour in July. We’re stoked that they’re able to play a set at Grimey’s before they hit the road.

With the lessons learned from the production and extensive touring of their previous album, Full Time Smile, the Future Crib showcases a departure from their typical sound both musically and technically. Adjusting to the departure of drummer Noah Pope, the band rebuilt their sound from the ground up, centering the recording process around their abilities as a live band and their long-held goal to complete the album process completely analog. Using no computers, digital editing, or one-click do-overs, the band rejects the shallow conveniences of modern recording in favor of the challenge of authenticity. In exchange they rid themselves of the distraction of endless decisions and perfectionism, putting the music first.

Come on out on July 5th and enjoy a set by these Nashville-natives, check out their new album, and help us give them a fantastic send-off on their tour!

A note on BEER:30 events—the Future Crib performance coincides with our weekly BEER:30 hang, so we’ll be offering free Tennessee Brew Works beers to those 21+ (with valid IDs). Beer is complimentary but we are collecting cash tips to be donated to support the good works of the folks at DRKMTTR, Nashville's enduring all-ages space, that thrives as a hub for connectivity and creative collaboration. Beyond being a music venue, DRKMTTR stands as a nexus of resilience, cultivating a dynamic community where the DIY ethos transforms into collective action. Through cross-pollination initiatives, DRKMTTR links artists, organizes communities & the under-21 crowd, and as a 501-C3 non-profit, they seek the backing necessary to perpetuate their pivotal role and create a lasting influence.

After more than 20 years on country’s family tree, Dierks celebrates the outliers of small-town life – and of country music – with his new album. Whittling down his essential sound to its rooted and most resolute, the 11 songs embrace unruly characters wherever they’re found, ultimately adding beauty to the whole. A proud broken branch in his own right, the multi-Platinum superstar’s current Top 30 “She Hates Me” is quickly climbing the charts following eight Number One albums, 22 Number One songs. and over nine billion global streams – plus 15 Grammy nominations and membership in the historic Grand Ole Opry. A global headliner and against-the-grain torch bearer for country’s organic roots,  Bentley has just launch his 30-city Broken Branches Tour with Zach Top and The Band Loula, which will see him come back through Nashville a couple of times this summer—June 8th for CMA Fest at Nissan Stadium and July 4th for Music City’s Let Freedom Sing 2025 in Downtown Nashville.

Don’t miss your chance to hang out with Dierks in the record shop in between his tour dates, when he’ll be autographing copies of Broken Branches a couple of days before the album is officially released. All who preorder the new album from Grimey’s on vinyl or CD—either in the record store or on our website—will receive a wristband for our signing event. Wristbands are required to participate in the signing for all 13+. (Kids 12 & under don’t require a wristband if attending with a wristband-holding adult; This is an albums signing only—no posters, merch or gear, please.) You can read more about the Broken Branches album & our preorder promotion on our webstore here. Anderson East Instore Performance, Album Signing & Record Release Celebration

Join us on Friday, May 30th at 4:00 PM for an intimate instore performance & album signing by Anderson East! We’ll be celebrating the release of Worthy the day the album drops. We can’t wait to see Anderson play songs from his new record in the record shop and hope you’ll be here on this fun occasion too! You can preorder your copy of Worthy on vinyl & CD in the record shop and on our webstore now to score a wristband for Anderson’s post-performance signing. We’ll also have copies of the album available for in the shop on the day of our event.

Anderson East is a Nashville staple and a well respected part of our creative community and he’s multi-talented—working as a singer/songwriter, instrumentalist, producer and engineer. After a late night recording session with longtime producer Dave Cobb at his new studio in Savannah, Georgia,  Anderson wondered if he and his longtime band of bassist Gregg Garner and drummer Darren Dodd were actually capturing anything worthwhile. Or were they just passing some days with an old friend? But when Cobb pressed play on "Never Meant to Hurt You" late that night, everything changed. The sound coming through the speakers was exactly what Anderson had imagined decades ago, recording on his TASCAM four-track in northern Alabama—real, grand, convincing. As a songwriter, singer, and even producer, this was the music he'd been working toward his entire life, realized here in a moment of unexpected and absolute triumph, through a country-soul classic that felt like an apologetic and warm hug.

The song "Never Meant to Hurt You" stands as the cornerstone of Worthy, Anderson's debut for Rounder and the most commanding and affecting album he's ever made. In fact, it is a record he nearly never made at all. Anderson has always treasured the magic of musicians together in a room, conjuring in real time. But he shaped 2021's Maybe We Never Die largely alone, grappling with cold technology in his little Nashville studio as the world grappled with a pandemic outside. He abhorred the process, even if he liked the results. The subsequent tour yielded a conundrum of its own. As he sang these songs into rooms full of people desperate for live music, he wondered if it all wasn't a bit artificial. When his major-label deal ended, the relentless cycle of recording and touring had begun to feel hollow against what he truly wanted from music.

But in June 2023, he and the band decided to head to Cobb's studio, without agenda. During songwriting sessions with Nashville collaborators, he'd found melodies and lines that resonated deeply with his life—regrets of the past, aspirations of the present and future—and tucked them away for the right moment. There was "Before It Gets Better," a dashing bit of vulnerability penned with Natalie Hemby, and "Fool Myself," a surrealist confessional written with his pal Trent Dabbs. Perhaps he and the band could explore these, see if anything caught their ears and imaginations? A lifelong recording nerd who was then finishing his own second home studio, Anderson wanted to see Cobb's new setup and console, regardless, to geek out on gear together. There were no expectations, no labels, no sense that a record had to be made.

Worthy blooms from that lack of pressure, from the freedom it afforded. After recording with Cobb, Anderson took the results back home to Nashville and dove in alone. He recorded his own vocals and used some of the digital know-how he'd harnessed on his prior LP to augment his analogue loves. He deliberately left space for accidents and magic, often taking days-long breaks from tracks so as not to overwork them. He kept things casual. When friends Foy Vance and Bonnie Bishop stopped by to spend the night during a road trip, he asked if they might like to sing on "Never Meant to Hurt You." Their mighty vocals reinforce its powerful embrace, giving it an unexpected gospel conviction. He could do what he wanted. Anderson made Worthy on his own terms, with its Muscle Shoals radiance, soulful horns, and interior lyrics; it’s a portrait of the artist he has become. But it is also a portrait of the person he has become, capable of seeing his past as a gateway to a present of love and happiness, of someone worthy of those things. Worthy is a reintroduction to Anderson East, more confident and commanding than ever now that he knows there is nothing to prove.

Don’t miss your chance to join us in welcoming Worthy into the world on release day! We hope you’ll be here to celebrate with Anderson and all of us. You can preorder your copy of Anderson East’s upcoming album on limited edition translucent sea blue vinyl & CD in the record store or on our site here and score a wristband for his signing. This is a free & all ages shindig, however wristbands are required to participate in the album signing. Like space in the shop, wristbands are limited. Wristbands also guarantee entrance to the event. (Wristbands are required for the signing for all 13+. Kids 12 & under do not require wristbands if attending with a wristband-holding adult.)

The Grateful Dead The Music Never Stopped Listening Party

Join us in the record shop at 12:00 PM (noon) on Friday, May 30th for a special Grateful Dead listening party to celebrate the release of the new collectionThe Music Never Stopped. Narrowing down The Grateful Dead's touring career and live performances to 60 CDs, 20 venues, and more than 450 songs is hard enough. Narrowing THAT down for 3CD and 6LP sets is a monumental undertaking, but with so much great music to select from, it's one of the most enjoyable compilations we've ever assembled. This nearly four hour collection contains one song (or two, or three...) from every show in the Dead's new road tripping boxed set, Enjoying the Ride, which brings together music from 20 (21...) of the most essential venues in Grateful Dead and Dead Head history. This compilation is crafted with songs spanning the 25 years in the boxed set, 1969-1994. Drawn from such iconic venues as Red Rocks, Frost Amphitheatre, Greek Theatre, Fillmores East and West, Madison Square Garden, Alpine Valley, and many more, The Music Never Stopped, features such classics as "Truckin'," "Eyes Of The World," "Scarlet Begonias," the title track, and plenty of under the radar tracks like "Big Boy Pete," "My Brother Esau," and "Doin' That Rag." This is a career-defining live collection filled with some of the greatest tracks performed at their greatest venues. - David Lemieux (audiovisual archivist and legacy manager for the Grateful Dead)

At our listening event we’ll be spinning The Music Never Stopped and we’ll share party favors and raffle tickets with attendees, for a chance to win a special Grateful Dead giveaway! Raffle tickets are free but you must be present to win.

The SteelDrivers Instore Performance, Album Signing & Record Release Celebration

We’re excited to host The SteelDrivers at Grimey’s and have removed copies of Outrun from our website in advance of their event here today. We’ll have copies of the vinyl and CD available for purchase in person in the record store.

We hope you’ll make plans to join us on Thursday, May 29th at 4:00 PM for an instore performance & album signing with Nashville’s own The SteelDrivers! We’ll be celebrating the release of their new album Outrun, which is due out just a few days prior on May 23rd via Sun Records. This is the band’s first release for the iconic label and we’re thrilled to be partnering with them both to celebrate this momentous occasion. You can preorder Outrun on our site here or in the record shop now to score a wristband for the band’s album signing. Space is limited and wristbands guarantee entrance to our event. Kids 12 & under do not require wristbands if attending with a wristband-holding adult. Wristbands are required to participate in the signing for all 13+.

Only Nashville could give birth to a band like The SteelDrivers, a group of seasoned veterans—each distinguished in his or her own right, each valued in the town’s commercial community—who are seizing an opportunity to follow their hearts to their souls’ reward. In doing so, they are braiding their bluegrass roots with new threads of their own design, bringing together country, soul, blues, and other contemporary influences to create an unapologetic hybrid that is old as the hills but fresh as the morning dew. This is new music with the old feeling. SteelDrivers fan Vince Gill describes the band’s fusion as simply “an incredible combination.”

Specializing in a unique mix of what might be called bluegrass soul, the SteelDrivers have become one of the biggest names in progressive bluegrass after making their debut in 2005. While there’s a strong traditional streak in the SteelDrivers sound, they bring a passion to their delivery that adds a distinctive flavor, and they’re not afraid of adding a forceful grit to the music. They have been nominated for four Grammys, the Americana Music Association’s New Artist of the Year, and were awarded IBMA’s 2009 Emerging Artist of The Year. In 2015 the band’s Muscle Shoals Recordings won the Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Recording.

Don’t miss your chance to soak up a bit of Music City magic when The SteelDrivers take the stage in the record shop on Thursday, May 29th! We cannot wait to celebrate Outrun with them and all of you. Secure your copy of Outrun and your spot in the signing line with your preorder in the shop or on our webstore and we’ll see you here on 5/29!

We’ll be spinning the album in the shop and distributing party favors! These special gifts for attendees include limited-run zines and posters (while supplies last). Plus we’ll be distributing raffle tickets for a drawing for a hand-stamped, white label vinyl to be given away at the end of the listening event. (Raffle tickets are free & limited to one per person. You must be present to win.) The Foxwarren curated zine - also titled 2 - features art, photos, recipes, poetry, lyrics, collages and more. The zine includes contributions from each band member as well as Tim Kasher, Nathaniel Russell, Winston Hacking, Helado Negro, Angela Lewis, Carson McHone, Sean Solomon, and more.

For the album Shauf is joined by his fellow Canadian childhood friends and close collaborators Dallas Bryson (guitar), Darryl Kissick (bass), Avery Kissick (drums), and Colin Nealis (multi-instrumentalist). The eclectic sound of 2- weaving genres ranging from folk to psych rock to downtempo - coincides with Shauf's curiosity and desire to incorporate a Native Instruments Maschine MSK3 sampler into his process. There is something uncanny about the feeling of these songs, the way bits recorded in different rooms amplify your attention, listening for how these layers lock. But their true connective tissue is the generous and gentle ways Shauf and the rest of Foxwarren move with melody. Come on out on 5/28 at 4:00 pm to hear for yourself! For a complete list of shops participating in these special early listening parties see Foxwarren’s site here.

William Tyler Instore Performance & Time Indefinite Album Signing

We are so pleased to be able to host William Tyler for an instore performance and album signing to celebrate the release of his new album Time Indefinite. Released April 25th via Psychic Hotline, Time Indefinite finds William working with longtime friend, producer Jake Davis, who helped stitch together bits of distortion and the sounds of an anxious era, opting to embrace the hiss and wobble and to unintentionally make a record that reflected the times—uneasy, damaged, honest. A seesaw of struggle and survival defines the songs, a map of anguish and belief and the trails that link them. “This is a mental illness record,” Tyler will tell you without shame, as open in life and speech as he is on tape. “ It is a stunning record by a great guitarist, a masterpiece of our collectively anxious time.

William is out on the road now, touring the South and Mid-West, but is returning to Nashville for this special performance and album signing on Thursday, May 22nd. You can check out the full run of his current tour here. Make sure to pick up a copy of his new album at our event to get signed or go ahead and preorder your copy of ime Indefinite on our webstore now. All who preorder the album for local, event pickup will score a wristband for the post-performance signing. (Wristbands are required for the signing for those 13+; kids 12 & under don’t need a wristband to participate in the signing.)

William is a longtime friend of the record store and champion of the local music scene, having performed in some of our favorite Nashville-based bands (Silver Jews, Lambchop, Character), and as a solo artist, plus his old venue, The Stone Fox, welcomed some truly fantastic artists to Nashville (The Clean, Earth, Frankie Cosmos, plus all our favorite locals bands) and he personally hosted quite a few awesome concerts in his basement back in the day. Having him here to celebrate his new album and a new chapter is an honor. We hope you’ll be here to make merry with us on this happy occasion. See you soon, Nashville!

Speaking to her versatility, she’s the rare force of nature equally suited to collaborating with Zedd on the 6x-platinum “The Middle” or duetting with everyone from Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, and Sheryl Crow to Teddy Swims, Hozier, and Jessie Murph on tracks. Beyond standout late-night television performances, she notably served as guest host for ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! Not to mention, she has sold out tours on multiple continents, gracing hallowed stages in the process. Along the way, she also co-founded The Highwomen with Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, and Amanda Shires. In September 2023, Maren shared The Bridge, an EP featuring “The Tree” and “Get the Hell Out of Here,” and followed with a cover of Billy Idol’s classic track “Dancing With Myself” in February 2024. She entered a bold new era with the release of her Intermission EP in August, which features “cut!” [feat. Julia Michaels] and the MUNA-produced and playful single “push me over”. Maren, who described Intermission as her “heart journey and gamut of emotions packaged into 5 songs”, is always unapologetically herself – and that remains a core element of her art as she moves forward towards the release of her upcoming album, DREAMSICLE.

Make plans to join us in the record shop on Saturday, May 17th when we have the pleasure of hosting DREAMSICLE DAY with Maren Morris! Maren will be hanging out in the record store at noon signing** copies of her new album on juice colored vinyl & CD. The day party continues next door at Living Waters Brewing where they’ll be hosting a flash tattoo pop-up with Couture Ink, plus they’ll be serving some special DREAMSICLE themed libations. Hamilton Leithauser Instore Performance & Album Signing

Hamilton Leithauser Live at Grimey’s

In advance of our event with Hamilton Leithauser in the record store today, we’re removing copies of his album for order from our webstore. We have copies available for instore purchase, so come on over to the shop and pick one up and get it signed this afternoon.

We hope you can join us in the record store on Friday, May 9th at 4:30 PM as we welcome one of our faves to the stage! Hamilton Leithauser, the hard-hitting, Carlyle-crooning frontman of The Walkmen, has worked the last eight years in the heart of Bedford Stuyvesant, writing and recording his new breakthrough solo record, This Side of the Island. Known for his evocative lyricism, quick wit, and distinctive voice, Leithauser has been a significant force in rock 'n' roll since the early 2000s NYC scene, transitioning smoothly from his band's successes to a flourishing solo career. We had the pleasure of catching The Walkman last year when they played Brooklyn Bowl and cannot wait to see Leithauser headline at The Blue Room Bar at Third Man on Saturday, May 10th. We'll be giving away one pair of tickets to his show at The Blue Room and meanwhile they're are for sale via Third Man's ticketing partner dice.fm. Leithauser will perform a short, stripped down set and signed albums at Grimey's the day before his proper Nashville gig. To participate in our album signing, be sure to order a copy of This Side of the Island in the record shop or on our site here. All who order the album for event pickup will receive a wristband for Leithauser's signing.

This Side of the Island boldly turns away from the folk-rock vibes of his two previous records I Had a Dream That You Were Mine and The Loves of Your Life; and introduces a groovier, bass-heavy, modern sound. “It took me eight years to make this,” Hamilton says, “Longer than any other record I’ve ever worked on. Barack Obama was president when I started “Fist of Flowers”! So much in my life has changed since I started—my daughters grew, I lost a lot of friends, and I lost my mother...and it seems like the whole world’s been turned upside down—I live a very different life now, but I still truly love writing, recording, and performing music."

We think Hamilton's new record is great and cannot wait to see him perform songs from it live! Reserve your copy of This Side of the Island on our site here and come out to get it signed at our afternoon performance on May 9th. And don't forget to enter our ticket giveaway for a pair of tickets to his show at the Blue Room next time you're in.  See you soon, Music City!

Cash Langdon Instore Performance & Album Signing

Make plans to join us in the record store for an instore performance & album signing on the eve of Cash Langdon’s new album, Dogs! The album is Cash Langdon’s second record under his own name, but the first joined by his band Meadow Dust (bassist Matt Whitson and drummer Reagan Bruce). Mostly recorded at Portside Studios (the former location of the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound) in just two days, engineer Brad Timko (Dan Sartain, St. Paul and The Broken Bones) captured the trio sounding fierce and tight. Their fuzzy take on heavy country rock recalls Neil Young & Crazy Horse and gives off the heat of Langdon’s native Birmingham. Like Young, his voice is simultaneously earnest and world-weary, but there’s a sense of humor too, and a resignation to keeping on (Dogs). These songs are beautiful, searing, southern-gothic testaments to the ongoing violence of being awake to the world around you (“Lilac Whiskey Noise”) and the resolve to stay awake anyway (“Magic Again”).

You can preorder Dogs in the record shop or on our site now and then come out to watch Cash Langdon and get your copy signed! This is a free and all ages affair, so come one, come all! We can’t wait to celebrate with Cash, our buds at Seasick Records, Single Lock Records, and all of you!

I'm With Her Instore Performance & Signing

  • Grimey's New and Preloved Music (map)

Make plans to join us on Thursday, April 24th at 4:00 PM as we celebrate the upcoming release of I’m With Her’s sophomore album in the record shop! We’ll be hosting I’m With Her for an intimate instore performance and signing. The band, comprised of Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan and Sara Watkins, will be performing songs from their new record weeks before its release, so not only is it your chance to see the band play live in our small space, but also to hear unreleased songs from the forthcoming album.

On their long-awaited sophomore LP Wild and Clear and Blue, I’m With Her bring their luminous harmonies to a soul-searching body of work about reaching into the past, navigating a chaotic present, and bravely moving forward into the unknown. In a departure from the stripped-back intimacy of See You Around, the record centers on a far more elaborate sound informed by the trio’s intensified sense of musical kinship. Produced by Josh Kaufman, Wild and Clear and Blue ultimately adds a bold new urgency to their delicate entangling of lived-in narrative, fable-like storytelling, and nuanced reflection on cycles of life.

All who preorder Wild and Clear and Blue in the record shop on our site here for local, store pickup will score a wristband for our signing with the band that will also guarantee entrance to our event. Wristbands are required to participate in a post-performance signing for all 13+ (kids 12 & under don’t need a wristband if attending with a wristband-holding adult.) You can read more about Wild and Clear and Blue on our webstore. And before you head to Grimey’s, be sure to take a peak at our parking tips on our site here.

Join us in the record shop on Wednesday, April 9th at 4:00 PM when we’ll host music award-winning archival producer Zev Feldman in conversation with Julie Fudge, Patsy Cline’s daughter and CAO of the Patsy Cline Enterprises LLC. They’ll be celebrating the imminent release of Patsy Cline's Imagine That: The Lost Recordings (1954 - 1963), which will be released as a double vinyl set on Record Store Day, (which is Saturday, April 12th this year). Feldman and Fudge will be joined by local writer, WXNA co-founder and DJ, and country music enthusiast Randy Fox to discuss the new collection and answer audience questions. Album co-producers Dylan Utz and George Hewitt will be joining Feldman and Fudge as well. While we won’t have copies of the new LP available at our event, we will have copies for sale on Record Store Day and hope you’ll come out that Saturday to pick up one.

The legacy of legendary country vocalist Patsy Cline, whose storied recordings of the 1950s and 1960s with producer Owen Bradley helped establish country music’s pop-crossover Nashville Sound, receives a new chapter with the release of Imagine That: The Lost Recordings (1954-1963), a revelatory collection of previously unreleased recordings from Elemental Music/Deep Digs. This unprecedented, limited edition two-LP set, produced in association and with the full endorsement of the Patsy Cline Estate, features 48 unissued tracks, all faithfully transferred, mastered and released legitimately for the first time. They survey the full breadth of the singer’s artistry, from her first days as a professional musician with Bill Peer & the Melody Boys and Girls in the early ‘50s to the apex of her popularity, just weeks before she tragically died at the age of 30 in a plane crash on March 5, 1963.

Drawn from radio broadcasts, TV shows, and demo recordings, these meticulously restored performances cast a fresh spotlight on Cline’s luminous, powerful voice, and eschew the opulent strings and vocal choruses of Bradley’s productions in favor of an intimate, unadorned, earthy sound. Affecting alternate versions of Cline’s chart-topping crossover hits “Walkin’ After Midnight,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Crazy,” and “She’s Got You” are included. Cline is heard duetting with such fellow country stars as Cowboy Copas (who died in the same crash that took Cline’s life), Ferlin Husky, Red Foley, Bobby Lord, Ernest Tubb, and Lonzo & Oscar.

Co-produced by Zeldman, Cline discographer and authority George E. Hewitt, and sound restoration engineer Dylan Utz, Patsy Cline - Imagine That features a detailed track-by-track discography; a historical note by author/writer Martin Melhuish; reflections on Cline’s art by musicians k.d. lang, Marty Stuart, Ray Benson, and more. Cline’s daughter Julie, says, “Our family has been blessed to have the recordings, the videos, and the photos that have remained since Mom’s passing in 1963. But we have been even more blessed because of the fan base that has kept her so alive. Those that have continued to play her music. Those artists working in film and commercials and television that have used her music in their projects. We are blessed every time we hear her voice. And now these recordings, all fresh and new, are something like a dream. All the hard work and research, all the time and effort…. all have led to something new in a world where we never thought that was possible.” You can read more about Imagine That: The Lost Recordings (1954 - 1963) on Elemental Music’s website here.

We’re so excited to hear stories from Fudge and Feldman about Patsy Cline and her unreleased recordings, as well as about the process of digging deep and putting together an archival set like this. Our Patsy Cline Discussion Event is free and all ages, so come one, come all! See you soon, Music City!

Black Country, New Road Forever Howlong Listening Party

  • Grimey's New and Preloved Music (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join us in the record store on Thursday, April 3rd, at 4:00 PM for a Black Country, New Road listening party on the eve of the album’s official release! We’ll be playing the record in the store and sharing party favors with event attendees. We’ll also have copies of Forever Howlong available for early purchase on assorted formats, including a limited number of autographed copies of the indie exclusive Eco Jazz Transparent Blue vinyl variant.

Forever Howlong is Black Country, New Road’s first studio release since 2022's UK #3 album Ants From Up There, which gave the band their second Top 5 UK album in 12 months alongside their Mercury Prize shortlisted debut For the first time, and follows 2023's Live at Bush Hall, an album The Guardian claimed was a “magical resurgence” in a triumphant five-star review. Now, on studio album three, the band are once again building from the ground up in yet another miraculous musical transformation.

The long-awaited new record was produced by James Ford (Fontaines D.C., Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Blur) and sees Black Country, New Road settled into a new shape in which vocal duties – and most of the song writing – is split between Tyler Hyde, Georgia Ellery, and May Kershaw. “It created a real through line for the album, having three girls singing," says Ellery. "It's definitely very different to Ants From Up There, because of the female perspective - and the music we've made also compliments that."

Forever Howlong is an ambitious, meticulously detailed record that includes everything from folk to prog via baroque pop and touches of alt-rock – with nods to everything from Joanna Newsom to Randy Newman via Fiona Apple and Janis Ian – yet all the while retaining that unmistakably unique sound that only this combination of musicians can come up with. Although hugely varied and expansive, the album also feels deeply cohesive and focused, as it takes three distinct voices and styles and seamlessly intersperses them into a new collective sound.

Djo, the musical project of Joe Keery, returns with his third studio album, The Crux —a deeply reflective and sonically adventurous body of work. Following the massive success of his single “End of Beginning” which topped the Global Spotify chart and amassed over 1.5 billion streams worldwide, The Crux was crafted at the legendary Electric Lady Studios in New York. Drawing inspiration from the turbulence and growth of navigating one’s 20s, the album explores themes of self-discovery and connection, all wrapped in a narrative that serves as a love letter to those who matter most to Djo. Aptly titled The Crux, this album captures a moment suspended between the past and an undefined future.

Join us in the record shop on Saturday, March 29th at 4:30 for your chance to hear the album almost a week early at our Listening Party for The Crux! We’ll be spinning the album in the shop, hanging out, partaking in our favorite time of week—BEER:30—and distributing party favors for event attendees. John Cale's Paris 1919: Mark Doyle in Conversation with Theresa Kereakes

Update, 2/19: Due to the winter weather in Middle Tennessee our event with Mark Doyle & Theresa Kereakes has been moved to a new date, Wednesday, March 26. We hope you’ll be able to make it to our rescheduled event!

Join us on Wednesday, March 26th, at 4:00 PM, for a discussion about John Cale’s Paris 1919 with author Mark Doyle, whose new book on Cale’s intriguing album is the latest entry in the 33 1/3 series from Bloomsbury Publishing. Joining Mark to lead the discussion is Theresa Kereakes, who was there at the beginning of LA’s punk scene and has worked with John Cale. There will be a book signing following the discussion. Don’t miss it! You can preorder a copy of Doyle’s book in the record store or on our site here now and then pick it up the day of our event and get it autographed by the author.

John Cale's enigmatic masterpiece, Paris 1919, appeared at a time when the artist and his world were changing forever. It was 1973, the year of the Watergate hearings and the oil crisis, and Cale was at a crossroads. The white-hot rage of his Velvet Underground days was nearly spent; now he was living in Los Angeles, working for a record company and making music when time allowed. He needed to lay to rest some ghosts, but he couldn't do that without scaring up others. Paris 1919 was the result.

In this vivid, wide-ranging book, Mark Doyle hunts down the ghosts haunting Cale's most enduring solo album. There are the ghosts of New York – of the Velvets, Nico, and Warhol – that he smuggled into Los Angeles in his luggage. There is the ghost of Dylan Thomas, a fellow Welshman who haunts not just Paris 1919 but much of Cale's life and art. There are the ghosts of history, of a failed peace and the artists who sought the truth in dreams. And there are the ghosts of Christmas, surprising visitors who bring a nostalgic warmth and a touch of wintry dread. With erudition and wit, Doyle offers new ways to listen to an old album whose mysteries will never fully be resolved.

Mark Doyle is a history professor at MTSU, where he teaches courses on British and Irish history. He is the author of several books, including The Kinks: Songs of the Semi-Detached (Reaktion 2020). His writing has appeared in a number of outlets, including the Irish Times and Nashville's newest literary journal, Swing.

Theresa Kereakes was one of the "First 100" original Los Angeles punks. She co-founded, published, and was the chief photographer for the fanzine Lobotomy and has worked in the music industry in a variety of roles. During her stint at Island Records, Theresa worked with John Cale as he toured in support of his albums Music for a New Society and Caribbean Sunset.
