We’re excited to welcome writer and recording engineer Larry Crane, to Grimey’s! Crane is the founder and editor of Tape Op Magazine—a print-based magazine that serves as an archive of conversations about the art and science of recording music, with the highest circulation of any recording magazine in the world. Crane will be joined by Andy Hong to discuss the newly published book Making Music: Conversations with Record Producers, a collection of interviews published in Tape Op magazine. Please join us on Thursday, October 29th at 4:00 PM for what is sure to be an interesting and entertaining discussion between Crane and Hong as well as a pretty fun hang! Tape Op began in 1996 by a then-novice recording engineer named Larry Crane. The first issue was 16 pages, printed on legal paper and Xeroxed. The print run was around 500 copies and Larry sent it out to his friends. After three years, Larry partnered with John Baccigaluppi, an engineer and producer who he'd worked with in the past and was now in the publishing business. Between digital and print, Tape Op now mails close to 70,000 magazines to readers worldwide and is still growing. {Tape Op Magazine’s] original subtitle still probably says it best: The Creative Music Recording Magazine. Tape Op is about learning how to make great recordings with whatever tools you have access to.
We interview engineers, producers and musicians who are making great recordings. We sit down and talk with them at length and then run long, in-depth interviews. The reader becomes, in essence, the "tape op" hanging out in the studio and learning the trade from the seasoned vets working in the studio. Unlike most recording magazines, our primary focus is not on reviewing equipment. We want to discuss making art. Tape Op is about education and creativity.

Abigail Rose is a Nashville indie-folk artist whose songs pair vivid storytelling with a voice The New York Times called “a slightly folk-y Stevie Nicks.” Raised on the outskirts of Music Row, she began writing songs young and has carried that songwriter’s instinct throughout her career. In 2026, Abigail has become a fixture of Nashville’s songwriter scene, selling out her EP release show at The Basement and making her AmericanaFest debut this September. She recently wrapped an East Coast tour with Bre Kennedy and is heading overseas soon for a tour of the UK.

Baxter spent the years around the release of his last album, 2024’s If I Were A Butterfly, a record shaped by solitude and the loss of his father, touring heavily and weathering difficult relationships and dynamics in his personal life. He had built an enviable career—releasing acclaimed records and touring alongside Jason Isbell, The Lumineers, Kacey Musgraves, and Lauryn Hill—but upon his return to his quiet Tennessee hometown, he turned inward and finally found the stillness to confront old patterns. After more than a decade as a working musician, Baxter was familiar with the rhythms of making records, but when it came time to begin again, he found himself unsure of where to start.

"I sat in my chair alone for a year and wrote a bunch of songs, and what started off as an attempt to write a record got sideswiped by mediocre attempts I wouldn't even sing to my dog," Baxter recalls. "Then, like many times over the last three years, I called my sister. We talked about life and family and love and heartache, and our individual experiences with all of that. She simply encouraged me to write about what I was feeling, something I was avoiding in the early stages of writing.” Rayland took his sister's advice and began writing with a newfound vulnerability. He'd sit alone each evening with his guitar for hours, excavating experiences and emotions.

From that trove of material he wrote during those quiet evenings came True Violet, a sweeping, tender, and sometimes raucous ode to reckoning and reconciliation. Though the writing process was solitary, the production of True Violet became a story of friendship, family, and collaboration. The album was co-produced by Paul Butler and Nick Waterhouse, with recording taking place over the course of a year and punctuated by moments of doubt—scrapping songs, returning to the drawing board, and calling in friends, including Tyler Ballgame and Shakey Graves (Alejandro Rose-Garcia).

We look forward to seeing Rayland perform songs from his new album several months before his True Violet headlining tour begins. We’re pumped to welcome Ashe back to Grimey’s to celebrate her new record, The Girl of Your Dreams. Please join us on Wednesday, October 21st at 5:00 PM for an intimate instore performance and record release celebration. We adore Ashe and are so excited to celebrate her new album with her!!

Ashe’s fourth solo album and first full-length since inking a deal with Atlantic Records, The Girl ofYour Dreams, reunites her with producer Noah Conrad, who co-wrote “Moral of the Story” and has worked with Chappell Roan, Role Model and BTS. The album follows 2024 release Willson, which completed a trilogy that included sophomore effort Rae and breakout debut, Ashlyn. For the new album, Ashe sheds the heaviness of Willson, an independent album produced in the aftermath of a mental breakdown that led her to temporarily leave music. In her latest chapter of creativity, Ashe finds herself leaning into the artists that make up much of her musical foundation – ABBA, The Beach Boys, The Beatles and Queen among them. “I’m having a better time than I’ve ever had making a record and releasing a record,” Ashe said. “Willson was so emotionally-charged, ‘cause I had just come out of this mental breakdown and time off. It was my first independent record. I was very precious about it. Protective about it. It was quote-unquote my healing album. This is … we’re healed. I’m healed.”

Due out October 16th, The Girl of Your Dreams is available to preorder for event pickup on limited edition pink ‘blush’ colored vinyl LP. come back down, the new album by Nashville experimental-pop duo Total Wife, was born from the edge of sleep. When composer and producer Luna Kupper would begin to fall asleep during late-night mixing sessions, the songs would follow her into the halfway place between dream and lucidity. And like a spiral from waking life into dream, the songs on come back down are endlessly self-referential, building whole universes from a single point. Kupper sold all of her synths to make rent before she started working on the album, and so every inorganic sound is instead built from samples of the band’s own work. A guitar on one song may be reprocessed and used as a synth on the next, while everywhere on the album vocal samples are taken from a single unreleased cover of Elliott Smith’s “Between the Bars.” In tribute to this process, the album was almost named The Julia Set after the mathematical equation which feeds into itself again and again, creating beautiful fractal images. The intention was to create something complex but accessible; experimental, yet precise and without abstraction.  Main vocalist and co-composer Ash Richter drew on her experience of pandemic isolation to write about connection and disconnection, using her lyrics as a tool for the communication that was missing in everyday life.

Richter and Kupper, friends from high school, formed Total Wife in 2016, relocating from Boston to Nashville in 2020. Both are visual artists as well as musicians, which they incorporate into their work with Total Wife via layered and purposeful visuals. A DIY streak underpins everything that they do — from handling their own artwork and music videos to recording their own music, releasing tapes through their label Ivy Eat Home, and hosting house shows in the basement they’ve christened Ryman 2. In Nashville they’ve settled into a weirdo scene living under the record industry’s floorboards, a hive of collaborative and creative energy that has made them excited to call the city home. They also assembled a live band for the first time shortly after moving to Nashville, consisting of Ryan Bigelow, Sean Booz and Billy Campbell — injecting their creative process with a jolt of spontaneity and aliveness that has fed back into come back down.

Wyatt McCubbin is a Nashville-based country singer, songwriter, and recording artist whose music is rooted in the timeless songs and stories that first drew him to country music as a kid in southwestern Ohio. Spending years as a songwriter in Music City, McCubbin has written songs recorded by Lainey Wilson, Luke Combs, Cody Johnson, Riley Green, Jon Pardi, and Zach Top, including Zach Top’s breakthrough hit “Sounds Like The Radio.” Now stepping into the spotlight as an artist, McCubbin follows in the tradition of songwriter/artists like Don Williams and Kris Kristofferson, bringing a distinctly personal, down-to-earth perspective to modern country music. Wyatt’s album, 650, was produced by Dave Cobb and recorded live to tape at Cobb’s Savannah studio. The album also features Marty Stuart, the artist who first invited Wyatt to perform at the Grand Ole Opry (don’t miss Wyatt’s next Opry performance, October 18th!)

Since emerging from Frankenmuth, Michigan, Greta Van Fleet have become one of rock and roll’s defining voices of their generation. Recorded in Tennessee in the spring of 2026, Palace for the People is the GRAMMY Award Winners’ fifth full-length album; it was co-produced by the band and Mike Elizondo (Turnstile, Eminem, Fiona Apple). Palace for the People was written in a remote cabin in Tennessee’s wilderness, where the band harnessed the inimitable electricity of the familial bond between brothers Josh, Jake, and Sam augmented by their eternal brotherhood with Danny. In order to bottle this spirt they hit the studio with producer Elizondo. It was his first time working with the band and he empowered Greta Van Fleet to rise on their own terms. The resulting record captures the band’s vibrant, cohesive sound and represents their boldest artistic statement yet. In making the album Sam notes, “we realized, the music is our palace!”

We hope you can join us at 4:00 PM on Thursday, October 8th for the launch of Everyone Begotten, Everything Holy (April Gloaming Publishing), the latest collection of poems by Dana Malone. Dana will read from her book and we’ll have a musical performance by next-gen outlaw songwriter Jubal Lee Young of the Cashville Trash Pandas. 

Everyone Begotten, Everything Holy weaves together themes of music and composition, health impediments like Parkinson’s disease and addiction, a sense of place and lack of belonging, theology and religiosity, and violence and war. The poems offer solos for background singers, choruses for trafficked women, laments for soldiers, a dies irae for developers, and praise hymns for kudzu, bamboo, tornados, disco balls, century eggs, Americana instruments, and cocktail napkin divinations—all leading to a capstone humanist intercessory.

 Dana Malone drew upon the experiences of her musical studies and her journalism and speechwriting career to create the poems in Everyone Begotten, Everything Holy. She began performing spoken word in Middle Tennessee, the Eastern US, the UK and Australia in 1994.Two notable recent publications include a poem wrapped on a WeGo bus and a feature in the NPR-supported podcast, Versify.  Advanced reviews for Everyone Begotten, Everything Holy are starting to come in for and it is being well-received!

These poems range from experimental free verse and sonnets to tight couplets, to almost stream of consciousness. But you feel Malone’s attentiveness behind every word and move. She approaches her poems with a love and respect for the music of language that is a golden thread throughout the book. The reader knows that she knows that there is no other act more sacred than the act of creation. There are no trumpets from her declaring such. It’s an understood, yet probably the most important, hallowed truth in the book. Malone is in awe of life. She is genuine about it. In turn, the reader cannot help but be in awe of her poems. For those of us who believe music, art, pizza pockets, and life define our religion, and poems are its vessel, Everyone Begotten, Everything Holy is written for us, and anyone else. Hope Is a Heavy Thing, Oladokun’s third full-length album, was self-produced with additional contributions from Nigerian producer Spellz and a feature from Nigerian artist Adekunle Gold. The album marks a bold new creative chapter, broadening her sound while continuing to explore questions of identity, resilience, and belonging with the emotional depth that has become her signature.The project further reflects Oladokun’s ability to draw from diverse influences while creating music that transcends genre and geography. A queer Black musician and daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Oladokun has become a vital cultural voice, writing songs that explore identity, faith, mental health, and social justice with honesty and restraint. Those themes remain at the heart of Hope Is A Heavy Thing.

If Remi Wolf’s first two albums, 2021’s Juno and 2024’s Big Ideas, were in technicolor, her third LP Mud is its more neutral, earthy and grounded sibling. Still colorful, as Wolf tends to be, but from a more rooted & grounded place.

The rawness with which Wolf wrote the album is delivered in the sound: stripped away of synths and programmed drums, Mud is Remi Wolf at her most lyrically and sonically vulnerable. The songs evoke the feeling of singing around a campfire with just your friends and a couple guitars because that’s how it felt for Wolf to make it. But to find the clearing in the forest, she needed to make a whole new trail first. Mud will be released via Island Music on October 9th on limited edition metallic smoke vinyl with alternate cover art—available exclusively at indie record shops—as well as cassettes & CDs.

Julia Jacklin has made a name for herself as one of Australia’s most internationally celebrated songwriters, with nominations at both the ARIA and Libera Awards, sold-out shows globally, massive tours, appearing on major festival stages from Glastonbury to Pitchfork, Newport Folk to Primavera, with countless accolades for her critically acclaimed albums.
After touring flat-out for years on three beloved releases, Julia found herself at home out of contract with her record label, looking for a new manager. “For the first time since I started out, I had this big chunk of time without any industry expectations and no-one to ask me what was going on,” she remembers. “It was liberating and it was scary.” Jacklin wanted to do things intentionally this time around. She wanted to back herself. And she wanted to make the record at home in Melbourne: something she’d never done before.
“I want to love and be loved, but I also want to feel free. The tension between those two things has been the central question of my life,” Julia says. This is the theme that underpins her fourth album The Gem.
When Julia first moved to Melbourne from Sydney in 2017, she discovered a little bar called The Gem on a back street in Collingwood, where bands pushed dining tables to the side and set up in a corner on the floor.
“The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging. I felt like I was almost doing it in the dark, just trusting that I was going to find something,” says Jacklin of the record, which conjures images of excavation, of reinvention, of trusting your instincts and surrounding yourself with the people and things that make life worthwhile. It’s a soaring document of the songwriter’s journey back to herself. Due out September 25th via 4AD, The Gem will be available for purchase in store on vinyl & CD.

Touch of Grey, or How the Grateful Dead Became Pop Stars tells the story of how one song transformed the popular legacy of one of rock’s most iconic musical groups. John Brackett traces the history of the song “Touch of Grey,” beginning with songwriter Robert Hunter’s lyrical sketches and the Grateful Dead’s earliest live arrangements, culminating in the group’s popular renaissance following the release of “Touch of Grey” and the album In the Dark in the summer of 1987. Brackett details how particular recording technologies, notable musical characteristics, modes of attending and listening, and the mechanics of the contemporary music industry shaped this defining moment in the group’s career. Drawing on extensive archival research, Touch of Grey examines how the band and their label worked to produce a hit record, a dynamic music video, and an effective promotional campaign that would propel the Grateful Dead from a group with a devoted cult following to become a pop culture phenomenon.

Bernie Taupin is one of the all-time greatest storytelling songwriters, and his creative connection with his friend and cultural icon Elton John is one of the most successful and enduring partnerships in music history. Yet despite his myriad array of accomplishments, Bernie Taupin is now set to achieve something he has never done before with his new solo album. Remarkably, The Sea Has No Mercy will be the first album that he has entirely self-written. As such, it’s the soundtrack to his own life - a record that presents a master craftsman at his most personal, distilling 76 years of lived experience into 10 songs that are reflective and revealing, vivid and thoughtful, sometimes hushed, sometimes joyful, sometimes elegiac.

Taupin describes the album as a late-life manifesto. It’s only natural, therefore, that it was inspired by his acclaimed 2023 autobiography Scattershot and a retrospective documentary that has been in development for a few years. Ultimately, the three projects will be innately interlinked.

Taupin says, “I couldn’t have made this album as a younger man. I couldn’t have written any of these songs. They’re all completely indicative of Bernie Taupin at 76-years-old. They need the life behind them. Everything on this record is hugely personal. Every single line, every word, means something to me, whether from a past, present or storytelling perspective.” The album dispenses with volume and sparkles in favour of warm, atmospheric folk informed by intimacy and closeness.

The project was recorded in Nashville with producer Frank Liddell, along with a core band composed of Music City legends: guitarist Adam Wright, bassist Glen Worf and keyboard player Michael Rojas - a trio collectively nicknamed The Tennessee Stone Cutters. It also features guest vocal appearances from Americana superstar Brandi Carlile and Bernie’s daughter, Georgey, as well as contributions from country legend Lee Ann Womack, the Jeremy Jordon Ensemble and percussion master Jay Bellerose.

Independents Day

1PM - Dead Gowns (Mtn Laurel Recording Co.)

“Dead Gowns is the songwriting project of Portland, Maine-based musician Geneviève Beaudoin. In February of 2025 Beaudoin released her first full-length It's Summer, I Love You, and I'm Surrounded by Snow , an album she recorded between 2020-2023 in various bedrooms, desacralized churches, and old gymnasiums on or near islands in coastal Maine. Later Beaudoin traveled Las Vegas to help a close friend move and start a new life there. But buried within that newness, there was an old and gradually widening fracture—and in that city, the friendship ended. Back home in Maine, she began crafting her second full-length album as Dead Gowns—Vegas. The result is all bright lights and dark waters, every instrument a response to the ache of Beaudoin's voice, a voice which increasingly anchors the album as it unfurls. Vegas will be released by Mtn. Laurel Recording Co. on vinyl and CD on November 15th.

2PM - Lily Seabird (Lame-O)

“‘Sometimes life gets so dark, it starts to feel like a bad trip,’ Lily Seabird reflects on the seasons that led to the making of her new record, Lightspheres on Their Way. Seabird's third record in as many years for Lame-O Records deals in mortality and reverence for the innately human, piecing her troubadour-ish folk to a grungy rock sentimentality. Though born from a period of reckoning and renewal, Seabird orients Lightspheres on Their Way around a holistic realism that buoys the spirit, with loose, earthy arrangements that meet intensity and depth with both twangy spaciousness and searing drive. Lightspheres on Their Way will be released on vinyl & CD via Lame-O Records on September 4th.

Across the record's nine tracks, the Vermont-based singer and songwriter orbits around the concept of "lightspheres," a catalysing presence or force that visits time and time again and shifts stories, feelings and trajectories. "A lightsphere can be so many things" says Seabird, " an actual light like a star, the sun, a UFO; headlights, a flashlight in the night; but also life, living things, people, relationships.”

3PM - Emily Scott Robinson

“Emily Scott Robinson's third album, Appalachia, is a soul-baring album for anyone in the thick of it. It's for the misfits, the sleep-deprived, the grieving, the scrappy and hopeful. For dawn drives, third cups of coffee, and love you didn't think you deserved but got anyway. It's for you who still unapologetically bursts with hope.”

4PM - Blaze Foley Tribute ft. Riley Downing, Phosphorescent, & John T. Miller

Local troubadours Riley Downing and John T. Miller lend their talents to songs penned by the late great Texas singer, songwriter, poet & artist, Blaze Foley. Lost Art Records’ upcoming compilation Sittin’ With Blaze showcases an assemblage of thirteen contemporary songwriters covering classic early Blaze recordings from his ‘tree house’ days in Georgia. Those recordings were originally released by Lost Art Records as Sittin’ by the Road in 2010 culled from demos recorded by Blaze in the mid-1970s. The compilation, due out later this fall, includes new recordings by Lucy Dacus, John Moreland, Phosphorescent, Uncle Lucius, Willie Watson, Cactus Lee, Dylan Earl, Riley Downing, Joshua Ray Walker, Twain, Angela Autumn, John R. Miller, and Lucinda Williams. Sittin’ With Blaze will be released on vinyl and CD later this fall.

5PM - Thomas Dollbaum (Dear Life Records)

“The realest-deal storyteller in indie-rock today is the Tampa-born, New Orleans-based singer/songwriter Thomas Dollbaum and Birds of Paradise is his most powerful and dynamic work yet. Following up his critically acclaimed Wellswood (Big Legal Mess, 2022) and Drive All Night EP (Dear Life Records, 2025), Birds of Paradise is a goodbye letter to lost loved ones and former selves. These songs find Dollbaum searching for acceptance in the transient in-between places: Florida's pine flatwoods, backroads leading to 1-95, where birds fly across the water. And even though the ghosts of his alt-county predecessors Townes and Molina are definitely present, on Birds of Paradise, Dollbaum emerges from their shadows-waving to the past, sounding all the more like himself.”

Less than a decade into her career, Katie Pruitt has cemented her status as an essential artist who helps us make sense of modern life and uncover meaningful ways of moving through it. Since the arrival of her critically celebrated full-debut Expectations (a 2020 LP that earned her an Emerging Artist of the Year nomination from the Americana Music Association), the Georgia-bred singer/songwriter/guitarist has assembled an acclaimed body of work exploring questions both existential and intimate (e.g., identity, self-acceptance, the quiet courage of living truthfully). On her new album Fools for the Fleeting, the Nashville-based musician reckons with the impermanence inherent to being human, shifting between poetic observation and confessional storytelling as she confronts such complex matters as ecological anxiety, love’s intrinsic fragility, and the profound isolation normalized by our increasingly digitized existence.

Her third full-length and follow-up to 2024’s Mantras, Fools for the Fleeting emerged from Pruitt’s vision of creating an album that feels “rooted to the earth”—a concept closely tied to the LP’s underlying theme of nature as a mirror for our inner lives. A prime showcase for her warm and soulful voice, the 10-song set centers on a powerful yet intentional form of Americana/indie-rock, steeped in acoustic instrumentation and the beautifully imperfect friction of live performance, courtesy of musicians like Juan Solorzano (a guitarist known for his work with Ruston Kelly and Parker Millsap) and Aksel Coe (a drummer who’s played with Ella Langley and Sierra Ferrell). As Pruitt’s most outward-reaching and philosophically rich work to date, the result is a luminous meditation on transience and grief, connection as survival, and the transformative power of presence and surrender.

Nick Carpenter was raised in an evangelical household in Georgia and learned at an early age how to both perform and to be performative. He credits the birth of Medium Build to two significant personal heartbreaks: once as an aspiring Christian at the hands of the Church, and once by the music industry as a member of an indie rock band called, fittingly, Little Moses.

“Most of my upbringing was spent learning how to perform the act of existence,” he says. “Being a good boy at church or school was how you got ahead, so the church was a place for me to perform this sort of existence to earn praise and perks. But when I found out how fucked up its inner workings are, the church dream died. And my experience in Nashville for music was very similar. So, Medium Build was created to be a place where no one could ever take anything from me. It was born from a kill-all-accessibility perspective: Say the darkest, nastiest thought you're otherwise afraid to say; don't filter — all the shit you weren't allowed to say at church, say it here. I just wanted a place where I could be ugly.”

Having tried his hand in a few different Southern music hubs, Carpenter took advantage of an opportunity to restart as far away from home as possible and moved in with his older brother in Anchorage, Alaska, in 2018, where he continued writing stripped-down, angsty, and wry songs under the Medium Build name. Adding guitar and vocals to beats or loops, Carpenter let the raw, emotional texture of his voice shine, and when paired with the evocative, heartrendingly real nature and relatability of his lyrics, a winning formula emerged. Recruiting a production-savvy friend to help him record and engineer, the output retained a strong DIY sensibility while revealing itself clearly capable of reaching a larger audience. Galvanized by that performative religious background, early Medium Build shows were communal, life-affirming affairs, and their spectacle spread via social media and word of mouth.
steady grip of EPs, full-lengths, and singles over the next five years culminated with a slowplay/Island Records deal, bigger tours ,and a move to Nashville in 2023, followed by the 2024 LP Country.

In the time that passed Carpenter struggled with alcohol and sobriety and with success and notoriety. In his search for authenticity he wrote the songs that would become King of Having Fun. Carpenter booked a studio for two weeks, and assembled his collaborative dream team — Paul Rogers, the musical director; Jimmy Mansfield, the engineer; and Jake LiBassi, the atmospheric moodmaker — to lock in and steer the creative process. They often reverse-engineered from the perspective of playing the songs live in bigger rooms and arenas at the objective forefront, and added upbeat tempos, guitar solos, singalongs, and more with those specific, future rock and roll moments in mind. And yet despite the dark subject matter hanging over much of it all, Carpenter’s lyrics also poke and prod at the gloaming, revealing a newfound maturity and rediscovered zest.

Little Big Town—composed of Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jimi Westbrook—are one of country music’s most enduring and celebrated groups. She’ll be hanging out with us that day for an exciting Q&A moderated by transcendental meditation teacher Donielle Freeberg, of the David Lynch Foundation, plus Witt will be performing and signing copies of her new album, all one week before the official release of Between Heaven & Earth (due out August 28th via Thirty Tigers). Some people change your life in every way that a life can be changed. David Lynch is one of those people. 

When Alicia Witt first worked with him at age 7 in his classic Dune (1984) she had no idea what he meant to anyone as a filmmaker, nor that she would work with him 3 more times over the course of his life and that he would become one of her greatest influences. She only knew that she had found a kindred spirit and that she loved him. 

Between Heaven & Earth is a tribute to his energy, his legacy, and most of all, his love. When Alicia attended his memorial gathering shortly after his passing in 2025, she was struck by the depth of the relationships in that space. The knowing that if you were loved by David, you stayed loved. As those in the room spoke of their shared experience that David was still among them - directing from beyond - Alicia became ever more aware that she was being encouraged to create an album from this space of eternal unconditional love.

“Use my name,” David whispered. And so it was.

Produced by renowned producer and singer-songwriter Joe Henry (Emmylou Harris; Milk Carton Kids; Bonnie Raitt; Rodney Crowell), Between Heaven & Earth was recorded live in studio in 5 days in New York City in January 2026. Alicia Witt on piano and vocals, accompanied by a band of 5 musicians, take you on a sonic journey that could never be recreated, channeling the energy that was brought together in this moment to honor the immeasurable effect that David Lynch had and still has on the world. He was palpably present in every moment of the making of this album. Between Heaven & Earth takes the listener on a journey to a place where only love is real, hanging suspended amongst the fragments of the day to day life we can see and touch - and another timeline just beyond this one.

Witt has been acting since her debut in David Lynch’s Dune at age 7. She’s spent 4 decades in front of the camera, most recently in 2024’s Longlegs, opposite Nicolas Cage. Her many credits include the films Two Weeks Notice, Mr. Holland’s Opus, and Urban Legend, as well as the television series Orange Is The New Black, The Sopranos, Justified, plus many more. A classically trained pianist, Alicia has been releasing original music since 2009 and has played all around the world.

Joining Witt for a conversation about her new album is Donielle Freeburg. For the first 10 years of her teaching career, Donielle worked with the David Lynch Foundation where she taught Transcendental Meditation (TM) to students, survivors of domestic violence, corporate executives, military veterans, and first responders. She is currently Co-Director of the Nashville TM Center and serves as the Regional Director for the Southeast and Central United States TM Program. She is also the co-host of a podcast called 'The Inner Well', which will be launching in the new year.

Lindsay Lou is commonly dubbed the Queen of any festivals she plays. You’re likely to see her sitting in with other bands and curating All Stars sets in addition to playing her own music. Her roots are in Michigan, where she started making records, including the artist defining Ionia, and touring worldwide with The Flatbellys and The Sweet Water Warblers. Since making Nashville her home, she’s toured with her folk/rock Queen of Time Band and acoustic/harmony driven Honey Moon Trio and has released records like Southland, Queen of Time, and soon she’ll release Bluegrass Women, a ten song album of Bluegrass classics that were penned by women over the course of the genre’s history. The Bluegrass Women project honors women in a predominantly male fronted genre while featuring bands made up entirely of some of the best women and pickers in the scene today. She’s a bringer-together-of-people and a purveyor of buttery, sweet, meaningful experience. In whatever ensemble she chooses to deliver her sound, you hear the common thread of her love for traditional music and authentic new songs inspired by it.

In 2011 Judah Akers and Brian MacdDonald became bandmates while attending college in Nashville at Belmont University. Their group, Judah & the Lion, went on to release the 2016 breakout album, Folk Hop n Roll, which launched them on their musical journey. Since then they’ve released a total of (soon-to-be) six albums, they’ve performed on Kimmel Live! and Good Morning America, and they’ve toured across the world and back home again (their next proper show in Nashville is at The Pinnacle on November 13th.)

Judah & The Lion’s newest album, I Am a Prism, came after a period of soul searching, and in the midst of a welcome joyous new life milestone: Brian becoming a father again. The last three albums had documented some personally heavy topics - mental health and depression (2019’s Pep Talks), heartbreak and divorce (2022’s Revival), and charting the stages of grief (2024’s The Process). On the other side of this trilogy of hard times and heartbreak, Judah & The Lion was at a creative crossroads. They took some time off, parted ways with their management, and asked themselves some tough but necessary questions. Out of this time came I Am a Prism —a celebration of the full spectrum of life, dark and light.
