The Great Divide is the highly anticipated new album from 2x Grammy nominee Noah Kahan. The record is a reflection on Noah’s past, his now-complicated relationship to family, friends, his native Vermont, as well as the disconnect and distance that silence and unspoken truths create between people. Produced by Stick Season collaborator Gabe Simon as well as new collaborator Aaron Dessner, the album will be available for purchase starting Friday, April 24th as a CD and a 2-LP set pressed on translucent beer bottle color vinyl, exclusive to indie record shops.

Jazz Dispensary was founded in 2016 with the Record Store Day release of the original Cosmic Stash, a 4 LP set of some of the most iconic and hard-to-find drum breaks, legendary samples, and a who’s who of players and producers including: Bernard Purdie, Isaac Hayes, David Axelrod, the Lafayette Afro Rock Band, the Blackbyrds, Pharoah Sanders, and more. The series has continued ever since with a compilation for Record Store Day or Black Friday each year, plus straight reissues of some of the deep gems in the Concord catalogs, always with the connoisseur in mind. In 2005, Andrew Bird was a previously unimaginable combination of virtuoso violinist, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and whistler. With that year's album The Mysterious Production of Eggs, his second on Righteous Babe Records, Bird minted a new sound that continues to be imitated and set down classic songs that still anchor many a live performance. The recording sessions lived up to the name when he recorded and scrapped the album three times, traveling between studios in Chicago, Los Angeles and his own home studio on a farm in Northern Illinois. The mystery was solved with the aid of David Boucher, whose studio credits at the time included Paul Westerberg, Lisa Loeb, and Randy Newman. Bird played most of the instruments on Mysterious Production of Eggs, joined by a handful of special guests complimenting his already lush sonic palette. The result was a powerhouse of a record dealing with nothing less than the mysteries of childhood, creativity and modern science-epic in scope and minute in detail.

Twice Grammy-nominated, Mercury Prize and BRIT Award-winning artist Arlo Parks is back with her new album, Ambiguous Desire, due April 3rd via Transgressive Records. Ambiguous Desire is Parks at her most confident and experimental, supplanting live band sessions for modular synths, Ableton plugins and samplers that channel the frenetic, vibrant spaces she was immersed in, all while spotlighting the acclaimed poetry and lyricism she's beloved for. Reflecting on the making of the record, Parks shares, "I danced more than ever as I made this record, I made more friends than ever too, found myself in the weird underbelly of New York juke nights, unleashed, laughed and laughed and laughed. This record has desire at it's centre. Desire is a life force, it's a wanting, a yearning, a momentum - we are all alive because there is something or someone we want - desire is an engine. But it is also mysterious, tangled, random, enlightening and HUMAN." Parks crafted the album with producer Baird (Brockhampton, Kevin Abstract). Their process unfolded between NYC's vibrant, community-rooted nightlife and long, introspective days spent in Baird's downtown loft. The result is Parks' most vulnerable, self-affirming, and euphoric work to date. Courtney Barnett, our favorite Australian singer-songwriter, writes lyrics that are smart, funny and thoughtful and delivers them with candor. Creature of Habit is her fourth studio full-length. Written in the deserts of the American Southwest, after Barnett’s recent relocation to LA, the album was inspired by the landscape and the artist Georgia O’Keefe. It includes a duet with Barnett’s former tour-mate Waxahatchee.

We’ll be celebrating the release of Creature of Habit a touch early, on Thursday, March 26th, the eve of the official release date, and invite you to join us for the occasion. Following their conversation both authors will be signing copies of their works for attendees. Ann Powers has been a music critic for more than thirty years, working for NPR, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and other publications. In the decade she has worked with NPR, she has written extensively on music and culture and appeared regularly on the All Songs Considered podcast and on news shows including All Things Considered and Morning Edition. Her books include a memoir, Weird Like Us: My Bohemian America; Good Booty: Love and Sex, Black and White, Body and Soul in American Music; and Piece by Piece with Tori Amos. Traveling: On the Path of Joni Mitchell (2024) is her latest book. We feel lucky that Ann calls Nashville home.

We’ll be celebrating the release of Brit’s new album, Land of the Forgotten, due out March 6th via Cut a Shine Records. You’d be hard-pressed to find a country singer with a stronger pedigree than Brit Taylor. Born and raised in Eastern Kentucky right in the middle of a small region that has given us the likes of Loretta Lynn, Keith Whitley, The Judds, and Tyler Childers, Taylor is Appalachian to her bones, and she possesses a deep understanding of the place and its people that well serves her new album, Land of the Forgotten.

“This album feels like driving home to me,” Taylor says. Although she has lived in Nashville for 18 years she says she’s always homesick. One thing she often studies on is the “certain type of resilience” she finds in Appalachian people. “If I didn’t have that in me, I wouldn’t still be chasing this dream. The people and the places are always making their way into my writing.” With her third studio album Taylor says she’s finally achieved the sound she’s been going for since she first arrived in Music City. Taylor has been singing professionally since she was seven years old, when she became a cast member for the Kentucky Opry as one of their “junior pros”. Around the same time she started taking singing lessons and listening to the country classics her grandparents constantly played.

In prepping for the album Taylor did various exercises, including the creation of a playlist for inspiration where she found that many of the songs happened to be by female country singers who were being produced by their husbands, especially ones by Patty Loveless (produced by Emory Gordy) and Lee Ann Womack (produced by Frank Liddell). “It seemed a bit serendipitous. And confirmation that making a record with my husband was the 100% absolute right next move.”

Most of the songs on Land of the Forgotten were written by Taylor and Chaffin along with Grammy-nominated Adam Wright, who has written songs for artists such as Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, and others, and who collaborated on eight of the twelve tracks. “The three of us have a similar life view with a healthy dose of cynicism and sense of humor and that definitely comes out in this record.” Jeremy Bussey, Clint Daniels, Jon Decious, and Pat McLaughlin also make contributions.

The result is a collection of tightly-written, hook-driven songs that often center on the working class, which makes it a particularly timely album. “I think it puts a light hearted spin on some of the tougher things about life. Not to make light of difficult times but to remind us two things can exist at one time and not to forget to take a look at the bright side too and to not take it all so seriously,” Taylor says.

As New Found Glory approach their landmark 30th anniversary, they still have a lot to say: ”We wanted to make something that really focused on how lucky we are,” guitarist Chad Gilbert explains of Listen Up!, NFG’s 11th studio album and first release for Pure Noise Records. “We’ve all gone through serious stuff in our lives, and I think the lyrics on this record are more meaningful and purposeful than ever. It’s a positive outlet that hopefully keeps people going.”The album’s spirit is indeed a testament to resilience, shaped not only by Gilbert’s ongoing battle with an aggressive metastatic cancer but also the ever-evolving dynamic between him and his bandmates–vocalist Jordan Pundik, bassist Ian Grushka and drummer Cyrus Bolooki–as they continue to push each other creatively. It’s the same full-hearted sentiment that colored their 2023 acoustic EP, Make The Most Of It, here delivered in three-minute bursts of the band’s trademark pop-punk sound.

We’ll celebrate the vinyl release of their full length record, Ode to the Greyhouse. You can preorder the album on vinyl on our site or in the record shop; all who place preorders for local, event pickup will receive a wristband with purchase. Wristbands are required for the signing for all 13+ and also guarantee entrance to our event. (Kids 12 & under don’t require a wristband.)

Edgehill appreciate the cracks, the nicks, the bumps, and the bruises. The Nashville, TN trio—Chris Kelly [lead vocals, guitar], Jake Zimmermann [lead guitar, vocals], and Aidan Cunningham [drums]—never sand down or smooth out the edges of their songs. Instead, they find truth in the fissure between fuzzed-out distortion and disarmingly infectious melodies, bringing old-fashioned grit back to alternative. They deliver the kinds of hooks that ruled Alternative Nation during MTV’s golden age, yet could just as easily translate to a generation born and raised on social media. It’s the sound of growing up as amplified through grainy guitar riffs and the kinds of lyrics that give you permission to speak your mind and heart.

The band members grew up in markedly distinct areas of the country. Chris originally hailed from Charlottesville, VA, and Jake primarily grew up in Long Island, NY. Early iterations of the band formed before the guys welcomed Aidan—who called Westfield, IN home—into the fold. Even though their zip codes may have differed, the guys shared a bond by virtue of “living in Suburbia and using music as an outlet for expression.” Chris and Jake initially connected as students at Vanderbilt University, cementing a fast friendship. Jamming together, they unassumingly established a foundation for what would become Edgehill. While working a shift at a local coffee shop, Chris met Aidan, and the group’s lineup was locked in. During 2022, Edgehill made waves with “Shooting Glances,” reeling in over 2 million Spotify streams. Building a local buzz with countless gigs, “Lookaround” posted up 1.3 million Spotify streams followed by fan favorites like “Something (Practically)” and the Live At East Iris Studios EP.

For the better part of 2024, the musicians feverishly demoed ideas, chipping away and sculpting a signature sound of their own. Simultaneously, they expanded their collective sonic palette by listening to everyone from Pinegrove, Alex G, and MJ Lenderman to Weezer and Nirvana. In December, they decamped to Minneapolis, MN for twelve days and recorded at Pachyderm Studios—made famous as the birthplace of Nirvana’s In Utero. On this hallowed ground, Edgehill recorded Ode to the Greyhouse with producer Tone Def, and he made an intentional effort to preserve the spirit of the songs. “We zeroed in on the music’s textures to create this intangible rawness,” adds Chris. “A lot of it was inspired by nineties rock, which would have quieter vocals and roaring guitars.” “Tone Deaf understood where we were going,” says Jake. “He knew it couldn’t be professional and polished. He was the perfect person to capture what we do and bring the best out of us. We wanted the album to sound lived-in, because that’s how we’d made the music.”

“Caveman Wakes Up showcases Friendship’s particular genius for visionary arrangement, indebted equally across generations to the folk-rock canon of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Emmylou Harris, to indie stalwarts like Yo La Tengo and Merge labelmates Lambchop, to contemporaries like Lomelda and ML Buch. Several of the songs employ fade-outs, jokingly referred to in the lyrics of ‘Love Vape,’ and there are other elements lifted from Motown and ’70s ballads: locked-in drum patterns, bass intervals, sentimental string arrangements. Each reference is pushed past genre, swirling and repeating, into something new and squarely belonging to the Friendship sound. On ‘Free Association,’ ‘Artex,’ and ‘Wildwood in January,’ the groove is established so that other sounds can come and go seamlessly; Mellotron patches, piano flurries and stabs, and clean guitar melodies, teeming textures disguised in unity. As a work of music production, Caveman Wakes Up is Friendship’s most advanced yet, another testament to the band’s devotion and care.”

Bernstein will be joined by East Nashville’s own Marissa R. Moss, journalist and author of Her Country, for a discussion of the book, its making, and Earle’s legacy. The event will conclude with performances of Earle’s songs from Dustin Welch, Sammy Brue, Tristen, and Andrew Combs.

Courtney will perform a short, stripped-down set in the shop before autographing copies of her new album. Courtney Marie Andrews has long been celebrated as an artist who challenges herself, and who finds new interplays of Folk and Americana. Also a vivid poet and accomplished painter, she brings a multidisciplinary richness to her work that shines throughout her 9th studio album, Valentine. Co-produced with Jerry Bernhardt and recorded almost entirely to tape, the album features complete in-studio performances that prize raw performance rather than perfection. It is Andrews’s most sonically explorative record thus far – she plays flute, high strung guitars, myriad synths, and draws heavy inspiration from her art outside of music. Her voice is gorgeous and acrobatic always, but on Valentine it finds a new depth, an assertiveness that brings new dimension to its biggest anthems and its softest moments.

Written during a period of profound endings and new beginnings, Valentine is a vulnerable exploration of love vs. limerence. While anticipating the imminent loss of a loved one who would eventually recover, a new but uncertain romance began to develop. Rather than lift her up, the two emotional poles seemed to bleed into each other to sow doubt, trouble, even obsession. But through her own exploration of music and art, Andrews found a way to grow stronger inside this feeling. “I didn’t want to slink into my pain, I wanted to embrace it, own it” she says. The songs that emerged are devotional in their lyrics but defiant in their energy; it’s the very sound of a woman standing in her first wisdom. With Valentine, Andrews rejects the objectification of love, the love filled with gestures and objects instead of trust, mess, and growth. In doing so, she delivers her most beautiful and loving album to date.

We’re super excited to kick off December and the Christmas season with some of our dearest pals, Old Crow Medicine Show. They’ll be joining us on Monday, December 2nd at 4:00 PM for an intimate instore performance & album signing to celebrate the release of their first ever Christmas album, OCMS XMAS! Due out November 21st on limited edition green colored vinyl and CD, the album is available to preorder on our site here as well as in the record shop. We’ll be opening one hour early, at 10:00 AM, and will be selling RSD Black Friday Exclusive Releases, records that you’ll only find at indie record shops! As we have for the past several years, we'll be selling the RSD exclusives out of our back door, menu style. We'll have “menus” listing all of the RSD Black Friday titles we have in stock. You'll go through the menu, selecting the titles you'd like. Then helpful Grimey's staffers will pick your order and bring you your records! This works best if you've looked through the RSD BF list online and have your choices prepared, but we'll help you in any way we can while you're here. Please note all RSD Black Friday exclusive titles are limited to one per title, per person and all sales are limited to in person, in-store purchase only.

If you get here early, before we arrive, please line up in the lawn in front of our neighbors Living Waters. We'll have a handy sign there for you saying "Line Forms Here." Once we're ready to start selling, we'll move the line over to our back door. Please do not line up right at the door or form multiple lines.

Once the line has died down, we'll relocate the RSD Black Friday exclusive records upstairs to the stage for in-store browsing. Like all Fridays in the record store, we’ll also be carrying that week’s new releases plus we’ll also be dropping a sweet selection of preloved records for you to peruse. On Saturday, November 22nd we’re hosting a very special BEER:30 where we’ll be celebrating the new, expanded reissue of The Replacements’ Let It Be, due out 11/21 via Rhino Records. Available as a 3 CD set and a 4 LP set, the deluxe edition of Let It Be features a new remaster of the album from the original two-track analog stereo tapes, alongside previously unreleased and rare studio outtakes and intimate Paul Westerberg home demos. The set also includes a complete, previously unreleased concert recorded in March 1984 at Cubby Bear in Chicago, IL., and a booklet that features liner notes by music journalist and singer and songwriter, Elizabeth Nelson (Paranoid Style).

In addition to spinning cuts from the Let It Be box set at our party, we’ll also be distributing party favors and raffle tickets for a special giveaway. Though the record was recorded and released back in 1993, the deluxe reissue on ATO Records marks the first time it will be available on vinyl! For the vinyl release Not For Kids Only has been remastered with four bonus tracks added to round out the album. We’re happy to host this special “JUICE:30” in hopes we can ensure that kids of all ages are turned on to this classic record! This is a free & all ages affair, so come one, come all. We’ll be serving complimentary juice boxes to attendees and will have copies of the new vinyl available for purchase that day, but if you want to go ahead and lock in your copy, you can preorder it on our webstore here now for event pickup.

Sam Grisman is a bass player, music appreciator, and bandleader who grew up in Mill Valley, California in a home where some of the great acoustic music of our time was being recorded on a regular basis. His father, legendary mandolinist, composer, and producer, David Grisman, was constantly having friends come over to his home studio for recording sessions and rehearsals. These friends, such as Doc Watson, Jerry Garcia, John Hartford, Mike Seeger, and Tony Rice all left an impression on the younger Grisman and inspired him to pursue a life making music with his many talented friends.

Sam Grisman Project was created to shed light on the music that Sam grew up around, and highlight that music’s influence on the members of the collective and in the greater music community. The band’s shows create a safe space where the band and audience can bask in the shared love and reverence for the great music and musicians who continue to inspire us all.

He’ll be in town to play a couple of intimate shows in at City Winery Nashville and will be stopping by Grimey’s to meet fans and sign copies of his brand new album, I’m a Stranger Here - Wainwright Does Weill. On the album Wainwright joins forces with the Pacific Jazz Orchestra, Los Angeles’ premier 40-piece orchestral jazz ensemble to delve into the rich and complex songbook of legendary German-American composer Kurt Weill. In order to participate in our special album signing and meet & greet with Rufus, you’ll need a wristband. These are free with preorders of the album from Grimey’s, while supplies last. If you haven’t already scored tickets to one of Rufus’ City Winery Shows, be sure to enter to win a pair of tickets next time you’re in the shop.
