We’re thrilled to partner with Secretly Distribution for a special Independents Day celebration at Grimey’s on Wednesday, September 16th from noon until 5:30 featuring performances from Thomas Dollbaum, Emily Scott Robinson, Lily Seabird, and Dead Gowns, plus a special Tribute to Blaze Foley featuring performances by Riley Downing & John R. Miller! This is a free and all ages affair, first come, first served. We’ll post additional info soon, so stay tuned for updates here!
Independents Day
1PM - Dead Gowns (Mtn Laurel Recording Co.)
“Dead Gowns is the songwriting project of Portland, Maine-based musician Geneviève Beaudoin. In February of 2025 Beaudoin released her first full-length It's Summer, I Love You, and I'm Surrounded by Snow , an album she recorded between 2020-2023 in various bedrooms, desacralized churches, and old gymnasiums on or near islands in coastal Maine. Later Beaudoin traveled Las Vegas to help a close friend move and start a new life there. But buried within that newness, there was an old and gradually widening fracture—and in that city, the friendship ended. Back home in Maine, she began crafting her second full-length album as Dead Gowns—Vegas. The result is all bright lights and dark waters, every instrument a response to the ache of Beaudoin's voice, a voice which increasingly anchors the album as it unfurls. Vegas will be released by Mtn. Laurel Recording Co. on vinyl and CD on November 15th.
2PM - Lily Seabird (Lame-O)
“‘Sometimes life gets so dark, it starts to feel like a bad trip,’ Lily Seabird reflects on the seasons that led to the making of her new record, Lightspheres on Their Way. Seabird's third record in as many years for Lame-O Records deals in mortality and reverence for the innately human, piecing her troubadour-ish folk to a grungy rock sentimentality. Though born from a period of reckoning and renewal, Seabird orients Lightspheres on Their Way around a holistic realism that buoys the spirit, with loose, earthy arrangements that meet intensity and depth with both twangy spaciousness and searing drive. Lightspheres on Their Way will be released on vinyl & CD via Lame-O Records on September 4th.
Across the record's nine tracks, the Vermont-based singer and songwriter orbits around the concept of "lightspheres," a catalysing presence or force that visits time and time again and shifts stories, feelings and trajectories. "A lightsphere can be so many things" says Seabird, " an actual light like a star, the sun, a UFO; headlights, a flashlight in the night; but also life, living things, people, relationships.”
3PM - Emily Scott Robinson
“Emily Scott Robinson's third album, Appalachia, is a soul-baring album for anyone in the thick of it. It's for the misfits, the sleep-deprived, the grieving, the scrappy and hopeful. For dawn drives, third cups of coffee, and love you didn't think you deserved but got anyway. It's for you who still unapologetically bursts with hope.”
4PM - Blaze Foley Tribute ft. Riley Downing & John T. Miller
Local troubadors Riley Downing and John T. Miller lend their talents to songs penned by the late great Texas singer, songwriter, poet & artist, Blaze Foley. Lost Art Records’ upcoming compilation Sittin’ With Blaze showcases an assemblage of thirteen contemporary songwriters covering classic early Blaze recordings from his ‘tree house’ days in Georgia. Those recordings were originally released by Lost Art Records as Sittin’ by the Road in 2010 culled from demos recorded by Blaze in the mid-1970s. The compilation, due out later this fall, includes new recordings by Lucy Dacus, John Moreland, Phosphorescent, Uncle Lucius, Willie Watson, Cactus Lee, Dylan Earl, Riley Downing, Joshua Ray Walker, Twain, Angela Autumn, John R. Miller, and Lucinda Williams. Sittin’ With Blaze will be released on vinyl and CD later this fall.
5PM - Thomas Dollbaum (Dear Life Records)
“The realest-deal storyteller in indie-rock today is the Tampa-born, New Orleans-based singer/songwriter Thomas Dollbaum and Birds of Paradise is his most powerful and dynamic work yet. Following up his critically acclaimed Wellswood (Big Legal Mess, 2022) and Drive All Night EP (Dear Life Records, 2025), Birds of Paradise is a goodbye letter to lost loved ones and former selves. These songs find Dollbaum searching for acceptance in the transient in-between places: Florida's pine flatwoods, backroads leading to 1-95, where birds fly across the water. And even though the ghosts of his alt-county predecessors Townes and Molina are definitely present, on Birds of Paradise, Dollbaum emerges from their shadows-waving to the past, sounding all the more like himself.”
