Big Crown partnered with the good folks at Wax Poetics to make a limited edition magazine dedicated to the label's story. A deep dive into the photo archives, interviews label owners Leon Michels and Danny Akalepse, and a ton more. The 40-plus-page magazine includes an exclusive a never-before-released 7" featuring "Oh Medaase!" by El Michels Affair feat. Ahemaa Nwomkro on the A side, and "Here Tomorrow, Gone Today" by Dave Guy on the B side.
Big Crown also linked up with World Famous 7” DJ, Japan’s own DJ Koco aka Shimokita and he runs through 10 years of Big Crown 45s like no one else can. An hour and ten minutes of the master at work interpreting the BCR 7 catalog through his lens on a Limited Edition Cassette with cover art by J Bonner.
Also available for the occasion is Big Crown’s new 2LP compilation, BCR10 - Ten Years of Big Crown, in the shop a week ahead of the worldwide street date. The double album hits somewhere between a retrospective and a state of affairs—tried-and-true gems from the back catalog mixed with rock-solid tunes from the newest records. Big Crown Day at Grimey’s is a free & all ages affair, so come one, come all! Please note you must be 21+ with valid ID to partake in a complimentary alcoholic beverage. We have two water fountains in the store (near the entrance) and one water refill station (downstairs) which you are welcome to use with your refillable water bottle. **A note on BEER:30 events—our Big Crown Day celebration coincides with our weekly BEER:30 hang, so we’ll be offering free Tennessee Brew Works beers to those 21+ (with valid IDs). Beer is complimentary but we are collecting cash tips to be donated to support the good works of the folks at DRKMTTR, Nashville's enduring all-ages space, that thrives as a hub for connectivity and creative collaboration. Beyond being a music venue, DRKMTTR stands as a nexus of resilience, cultivating a dynamic community where the DIY ethos transforms into collective action.
