In-STORE EVENTS

What's Happening This Week

Hey music lovers, I'd like to start with an update about our Knocked Loose in-store this Saturday, August 24th, at 5PM. Since their show sold out at The End, we've experienced intense interest in this in-store performance. While purchase of Knocked Loose's new album A Different Shade Of Blue is not required to get in for the show, it is required to go through the signing line after the performance. You'll get one wristband for each LP or CD purchased which guarantees you get to go through the line and meet the band. We will clear the store just prior to the performance and then let those with wristbands back in first. So a wristband will also guarantee you a better spot to see the show as well. Knocked Loose will play a 25-30 minute set followed by the signing. The new album is released tomorrow, Friday, August 23rd, and we open at 10AM. You can stop by Grimey's and buy A Different Shade Of Blue on vinyl or CD and go ahead and get that taken care of. You'll know for sure you're in for the show and signing and you won't have to worry about it any more!

This week we had a few more events to the in-store calendar. I hope you saw our announcement of Daniel Tashian's in-store for Saturday, September 7th, at 11AM. This one's for kids, y'all. Daniel has a wonderful new album of children's songs called I Love Rainy Days, inspired by his daughters. We'll have free juice boxes for the kiddos and it all goes down at 11AM on a Saturday. I'm also pleased to announce a new book event for later the same day - Peter Lee Neff has written the definitive book on songwriter Fred Neil, called That's The Bag I'm in. Neff will discuss Fred Neil's career and music journalist Edd Hurt will host a Q&A followed by a book signing on Saturday, September 7th, at 5PM.

Also coming up during Americana Fest week we have rediscovered Texas singer-songwriter Will Beeley in to play a few songs and talk about his strange trip from obscurity to newfound relevance, from songwriting to trucking and back to music. Check out this NPR piece and make plans to join us Thursday, September 12th, at 2PM. Edd Hurt will interview Beeley and host a Q&A as well. Look next week for more details on our Americana week plans. We're gonna have a lot going on!

And we add The Medium for an in-store on Friday, September 6th, at 6PM, to celebrate the release of their full-length album debut. Don't miss Smooth Hound Smith when they play Grimey's next Wednesday, August 28th, at 6PM. And Kimberly Kelly performs the next day - Thursday, August 29th, at 6PM. See details about these and ALL upcoming events on our events page.

We now have hard tickets to the Lillie Mae live show at 3rd & Lindsley on Sunday, October 13th. It's the live Lightning 100 weekly broadcast and you could be there in person! $14.50 per ticket, cash only (we have an ATM in house).

Friday means new releases! This week we've got some hot new country releases straight outta Nashville from Tanya Tucker (produced by Brandi Carlile & Shooter Jennings), Vince Gill, Midland and I guess we'll include Taylor Swift (CD only for now, vinyl sometime in the future...). We've also got fresh ones from Knocked Loose, Jay Som, Joyero (Andy Stack from Wye Oak), Shannon Lay, Seratones, Robert Randolph, Noah Gunderson, Redd Kross, The Rubinoos, David Wax Museum (produced by Carl Broemel), Tyler The Creator (also CD only for now), Raphael Saadiq and more. We've got reissues from Massive Attack and The Doors, and vinyl from Lightning Bolt, The Art Institute Of Chicago, Caroline Spence, Dolly Parton, Waylon & Willie & Emmylou, a whole bunch of jazz reissues on vinyl and plenty more, all detailed on our new releases page.

The Nashville Scene is up and running with their annual Best of Nashville readers poll. We sure would appreciate your votes! We're up for "best place to buy vinyl" and "best place to buy/sell music." You must vote for at least 25 best things and once you cast a vote for each selection, your vote is in the hopper. There is no "submit" button at the end. You can vote when you have time and come back and continue voting. Their system is getting smarter...

Thanks for reading and for supporting your local record store. We're here for you.
