What's Happening This Week
As the dust settles on Americana week, we move ever onward! I've got some new in-stores to announce, plus your usual fix of all the news that fits. Let's dig in.
I'm very excited to announce that Black Pumas will play at Grimey's next Tuesday, September 24th, at 6PM. They are the hottest band in Austin, TX right now, selling out all of their shows and selling tons of their self-titled debut album. They've got one of the more interesting records out this year, a true update on the classic soul sound that is fresh and compelling. They're in town to play the Basement East and we convinced 'em to stop in at Grimey's for a free, all ages set.
Also we're excited to welcome Kendell Marvel back to Grimey's. His new album is coming out on Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound label and he plays Tuesday, October 8th, at 6PM.
This next week is another whirlwind of live music on the Grimey's stage. Darrin Bradbury celebrates his new album on the day it's released - tomorrow, Friday, Sept 20, at 6PM. Queens of Noise rock the shop this Saturday, Sept 21, at 5PM. On Monday, John Doe of legendary punk band X will regale us with tales from the LA punk scene 1982-87, the focus of his new book. Music journalist Randy Fox will interview Doe and lead a Q&A followed by a book signing. That's Sept 23rd at 6PM. Then Stone Jack Jones plays on Wednesday, Sept 25th, at 6PM and legendary British shoegazers Ride play at Grimey's on Thursday, Sept 26th, at 6:30PM. See details about these and all upcoming events on our events page and join us when you can.
Tomorrow is Brittany Howard Day! Her new solo album Jamie is out and we've got lots of stock on the deluxe LP and the indie-only exclusive vinyl. Also out on Friday are fresh ones from Hiss Golden Messenger, Andrew Combs, Darrin Bradbury, M83, Fitz & The Tantrums, Robbie Robertson, Liam Gallagher, Keane, blink-182, Twen, David Kilgour, Vivian Girls, Chastity Belt, Zac Brown, Charley Crockett, The Shelters, Neal Francis, Mid-Air Thief, Kyle Dixon & Michael Stein, Fly Pan Am, As I Lay Dying and more. We've got a live album from Toto, the next installment of the Imaginational Anthem series curated by Ryley Walker, and vinyl from Thee Oh Sees, Allman Brothers, Josh Rouse, Nils Frahm, Type O Negative, Melvins, and tons more, all detailed on our new releases page.
