Benny the Butcher - Excelsior LP (Next Records)

"Excelsior" is defined as “ever upward”, a fitting title that describes the trajectory of Benny The Butcher's career to this point. Excelsior builds upon the success of Benny’s earlier releases, with the signature sound he has cultivated, mixing luxury and underground rap, at the forefront of this project. With features from industry heavyweight’s Boldy James and Styles P and new comers from Benny's B$F family Sule and Fuego Base, plus production from the likes of Harry Fraud and Daringer, the album’s 7-tracks pack a serious punch.

Big Thief - Double Infinity CD/LP (4AD)

It was winter in Manhattan. The streets were frozen and still the band rode bicycles to the Power Station on 53rd and back to Brooklyn for three weeks. Three weeks that would mark the birth of Double Infinity - the album that constitutes a grand departure for Big Thief. An ultramodern community of musicians gathered in the warm wooden room where Bruce once stood. They all tracked together - simultaneously - improvising arrangements and making collective discoveries. Laraaji created drones with zither and an iPad and sang intuitive vocal melodies. Joshua Crumbly played bass; Mikey Buishas made live tape loops and played keys; Mikel Patrick Avery, Jon Nellen, and Caleb Michel played percussion; Adam Brisbin played guitar; and Hannah Cohen, Alena Spanger and June McDoom sang background vocals. Along with core members Adrianne, Buck, and James, the group played for nine hours a day. Double Infinity is the archive of this play. It could only have been produced, engineered, and mixed by longtime Big Thief collaborator Dom Monks. "Double Infinity," reaches into the idea of inner and outer worlds, and the body as the bridge. [Indie exclusive green vinyl.]

David Byrne - Who Is the Sky? CD/LP (Matador)

In 2023, as his triumphant American Utopia era came to a close, David Byrne began jotting down the occasional groove, chord or melody and assembling them into demos he recorded with just an acoustic guitar atop a programmed beat or loop. The prior three years had given him, and much of humanity, the opportunity to ask, "Do I like what I'm doing? Why am I writing songs, or working this job, or whatever? Does any of it matter?" Byrne's attempts to answer those weighty questions can be found on Who Is The Sky?, a first-time collaboration between himself, Grammy-winning producer Kid Harpoon aka Tom Hull (Harry Styles, Miley Cyrus) and New York-based chamber ensemble Ghost Train Orchestra, and featuring guest appearances by Paramore's Hayley Williams, longtime collaborator St. Vincent and The Smile drummer Tom Skinner. The album builds upon the optimistic themes laid out by American Utopia and it's supporting tour, but more specifically spelled out by the Grammy-winning Broadway show and subsequent movie. With this offering, Byrne continues his lifelong exploration of human connection and the potential for societal unity against the chaotic backdrop of the world. Who Is the Sky? is particularly personal, cinematic, humorous and joyful, but often with a lesson baked in - that love is unexplainable, that enlightenment means very different things to different people and that it's always a good idea to moisturize, whether you wake up the next morning with skin like a baby or not. Most importantly, the songs evince Byrne's gift for riding the razor's edge of avant-garde and accessible pop. [Indie exclusive apple green color vinyl.]

Lucrecia Dalt - A Danger to Ourselves LP (RVNG Intl.)

A fearless reflection on the unfiltered complexities of human connection. Following up her breakthrough 2022 album ¡Ay!, A Danger to Ourselves unravels like a deeply personal conversation; Dalt’s voice is foregrounded and formidable, supported by a lush array of acoustic orchestration and processing, collaged percussive patterns, and an esteemed cast of collaborators including David Sylvian, who co-produced the album with Dalt, Juana Molina, Alex Lazaro, and Camille Mandoki. El Michels Affair - 24 Hr Sports CD/LP (Big Crown)

Leon Michels has quietly become one of the most sought-after producers in music. His signature sound has caught the attention of the mainstream while continuing to inspire the underground. Since 2023’s El Michels Affair & Black Thought album Glorious Game, Michels has been busy producing records for other artists; Norah Jones’ Grammy winning Visions, Clairo’s Grammy nominated Charm, Kali Uchis’ “Moonlight”, as well as albums for labelmates Brainstory, Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek, Thee Heart Tones, and Liam Bailey. His new album 24 Hr Sports marks the highly anticipated return to recording under his own moniker, El Michels Affair. 24 Hr Sports was inspired by the fashion and graphic design of ‘80s & ‘90s Sports Illustrated magazines, MF DOOM’s Special Herbs albums, the sample sources used on them, and gospel music a la Pastor T.L. Barrett. The sum of those influences with Michels’ impeccable creative touch prove to be the recipe for an instant classic that will surely be one of the most heralded releases of 2025. [Limited edition translucent red vinyl edition. This title shipped late and will arrive early next week.]

La Dispute - No One Was Driving the Car LP (Epitaph)

It's been six years since La Dispute released their last album, Panorama. Since then, the Michigan post-hardcore band-made up of Jordan Dreyer on vocals, Brad Vander Lugt on drums, Chad Morgan-Sterenberg and Corey Stroffolino on guitar, and Adam Vass on bass-dealt with the stagnance of the pandemic, celebrated the ten-year anniversaries of Wildlife and Rooms Of The House, and began working on No One Was Driving The Car. The fifth studio LP is the first entirely produced by the group, and it came together in Grand Rapids and Detroit, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the Philippines: "I think the change in environment was really helpful to breathing new life into the process each time we came back to it," Dreyer says. [Indie exclusive coke bottle clear vinyl.]

Orcutt Shelley Miller - Orcutt Shelley Miller CD/LP (Silver Current)

Orcutt Shelley Miller is an avant-rock trio comprised of three highly celebrated figures of experimental music: Bill Orcutt (Harry Pussy), Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth) and Ethan Miller (Howlin Rain, Comets On Fire). Following in the footsteps of the high-firing free jazz and European outer-rock bands of the '60s and '70s and the Pacific Rim's subterranean reimagining of "rock" form in the '90s, Orcutt Shelley Miller utilize explosive group chemistry, focused intention and chance to pursue the creation of song in it's rawest, purest form. "The landscape Orcutt Shelley Miller inhabits lies deep in the stoner American bedrock, fed by volcanic riffage and hypnotic phrasing with rhythmic nods to the SoCal '60s and atonal slash piled on a mid '80s SST punk-fusionoid substrate, ultimately blasting a 'big rock statement' that treads the line between good times and blown minds." -Tom Carter

Grant-Lee Phillips - In the Hour of Dust CD/LP (Yep Roc)

Several years ago, Grant-Lee Phillips found himself wandering the elegant halls of the Norton Simon Art Museum in Pasadena, California. Amid a collection of highly detailed Indian paintings, one piece stood out. He jotted a note in his notebook, struck by both the imagery and the ominous title. That entry would eventually inspire the name of his 12th solo album: In the Hour of Dust. "A common theme throughout Indian poetry and painting," Phillips explains, "is this concept of 'the hour of cow dust.' It's that moment when cows are led home and kick up dust; a cue to prepare the lamps. Night is about to fall." While Phillips doesn't shy away from today's larger societal issues, In the Hour of Dust is an intimate, self-produced album. It's stripped-down musical presentation and often autobiographical lyrics reflect personal reckonings, all set "against this larger discordant backdrop." Like many, Phillips grapples with staying afloat in the chaos of modern life. For him, songwriting is a way to push back against the encroaching dark - to light the lamps and find a path forward, for both himself and his listeners. [Limited edition translucent golden smoke vinyl.]

Gwenifer Raymond - Last Night I Heard the Dogstar Bark CD/LP (We Are Busy Bodies)

‘Last Night I Heard the Dogstar Bark’ is a line from Grant Morrison’s ‘The Invisibles’, spoken by Tom O’Bedlam; a half-mad hobo occultist who sees holy words reflected in the wet cement of the city. My last album was recorded and released mid-lockdown during a global pandemic; Since then the world seems to have been taking on an increasingly surrealistic tilt, and ol’ Tom makes more and more sense. In some ways the album is split down the middle: I’ve been playing in that folk-horror style for a while, and that’s still there (dream-making birds from the Mabinogion and the worst night of a rabbit’s life, etc.), but also it’s moving on to dally with science-fiction and esoterica (meditations on the set-theory afterlife, and pioneering rocket scientist-cum-Thelemite Jack Parsons, etc.). Around the time a lot of those were written I was reading a lot of pulpy science and strange fiction - by coincidence several that dealt with various ideas surrounding the concept of infinity. And so the album enters from the cosmic void and exits through the galactic plane. I’ve always felt a strong pull to the world of the weird, and I don’t think there’s a lot weirder than infinity: the product of a division by zero.” —Gwenifer Raymond.

Mike Reid & Joe Henry - Life and Time CD/LP (Work Song Inc)

In August 2022, Joe Henry, a seasoned but unconventional songwriter, taught at a Nashville songwriting camp, feeling out of place among more commercially successful instructors. On the first night, he met fellow instructor Mike Reid-former NFL star and acclaimed songwriter. Despite Henry's initial awe, Reid immediately engaged him in a heartfelt conversation about poetry, sparking a deep connection. Months later, inspired by a rhyming couplet, Henry reached out to Reid with a note suggesting they write together. Reid's enthusiastic reply-"Let's push off the dock and into the fog and see what we find"-led to an unexpected and organic collaboration. Henry sent lyrics; Reid responded with fully formed recordings. This seamless exchange repeated, producing a body of songs that felt inevitable and deeply shared, as if accessing something beyond either man's individual reach. This collection is profoundly elegiac, but also hopeful-a meditation on grief, love, and memory that doesn't shy away from sorrow, yet seeks transformation through artistic expression. It feels like a spiritual journal disguised as a folk album, or a soul's quiet reckoning with the unspeakable beauty and heartbreak of life.

Liam St. John - Man of the North CD/2xLP (Big Loud)

Liam St. John fuses Americana and rock & roll with raw, blues-infused lyrics and electrifying performances with his debut studio album, Man Of The North. The 16-track LP features singles "Believer," "Trouble," "Devil In Disguise (feat. Houndmouth)," "Greyhound Bus Blues (feat. Molly Tuttle)" and "Sweet Like." Hailed as a "genre-fusing crooner [with] emphatic, striking style" (Holler), 2025 promises to be a breakout year for Liam St. John with a 70-date headline tour and festival appearances. [Indie exclusive blue vinyl.]

Shrunken Elvis (Spencer Cullum, Rich Ruth, & Sean Thompson) - Shrunken Elvis LP (Western Vinyl)

Shrunken Elvis is a Nashville-based trio born from long European drives, cold winter jam sessions, and a mutual love of genre-defying sound exploration. The group unites three seasoned musicians—Spencer Cullum, Sean Thompson, and Rich Ruth—each bringing a distinct musical background to a shared creative space that prizes intuition over ambition. Their music exists in a naive, open-ended state—unconcerned with outcome but guided by deeply honed instincts. It’s driven by their collective love for instrumental music across genres such as kosmische, jazz fusion, electronic, and ambient. Having spent much of their careers as side musicians, this project represents a rare opportunity to create purely for the sake of collaboration and curiosity. Influences range from Alice Coltrane, Michael Rother, and Pat Metheny to KLF, Ashra, and Can—along with visual and cinematic touchstones like ECM album art, Kurosawa, and Bergman. [This title shipped late and will arrive early next week.]

Tortoise - Oganesson Remix LP (Nonesuch)

Off the heels of the release of the first single in 10 years, Tortoise present an EP of "Oganesson" remixes, rounding up collaborators and friends alike to give their unique takes on new Tortoise, including poet and activist Saul Williams, legendary mastering engineer Heba Kadry, Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney, indie heavyweights Broken Social Scene, and International Anthem's own Makaya McCraven. Saul Willams uses his cut to create space for his poetry, laying out a cryto fight facism and battle oppression in a poignant and timely fashion. Heba Kadry takes "Oganesson" underground, with a four on the floor focus that catapults the intricate synth interplay in a reverberant dancehall classic. Patrick Carney's take is immediately active and tastefully compressed, calling attention to the the fundamentals via percussive layering and an enhanced grit of the grooving bassline. Broken Social Scene brings the tempo down, launching "Oganesson" into a new wave-adjacent territory, digging into the darker side of the band's instrumental arrangement to highlight it's cinematic qualities, now convincingly primed for the big screen. Makaya McCraven gives "Oganesson" his signature treatment, with an uncanny ability to make a tight groove an even more well-oiled machine by effortlessly swapping the 7/8 for 4/4.
