Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's
New Releases
Ada Lea - When I Paint My Masterpiece CD/LP (Saddle Creek)
After years of touring, Alexandra Levy (Ada Lea) felt a need for community and renewal. when i paint my masterpiece was largely recorded in rural Ontario in the waning weeks of 2023, and its harmonies and arrangements link back to a golden era of Canadian folk music. The band recorded the album largely live and acoustic in one room, off the grid in both senses, loose but in control and without a click in sight. The album lives and breathes, produced with Here We Go Magic’s Luke Temple, who has lent his gently psychedelic sensibility to albums by artists like Adrianne Lenker and Hand Habits. By the end of these sixteen songs, it’s clear: when i paint my masterpiece isn’t chasing perfection, it’s comfortable in the magic of being. [Indie exclusive orange vinyl.]
Bad Suns - Accelerator CD/LP (Epitaph)
For a decade now, Bad Suns have thrived in the sweet spot between indie rock Polish and modern alt-pop energy, crafting a sound that feels both urgent and timeless. Accelerator, their fifth studio album, doesn't just refine that identity-it pushes it into new territory. Stratocasters shimmer through overdriven Vox amps, synths surge like late-night city lights, and the rhythm section pulses with a restless, undeniable energy. It's a record that doesn't just move; it commands attention. [Indie exclusive coke bottle clear vinyl.]
Beach Bunny - Tunnel Vision CD/LP (Beach Bunny Music)
Tunnel Vision, the third LP from Chicago indie band, Beach Bunny, finds them getting back to basics. Rocked by the pandemic, singer/songwriter Lili Trifilio, dealt with a lengthy bout of writer's block for the first time in the lead up to recording. As she regained her confidence, she turned inward to write about the quarter life crisis she was experiencing and the existential challenges her friends were facing. Trifilio's incisive lyrics and buoyant vocals are complimented by undeniably catchy guitar-based hooks, making it clear that Tunnel Vision is a modern power pop classic. [Indie exclusive baby pink vinyl.]
The Black Keys - No Rain No Flowers CD/LP (Warner Records)

[With Indie exclusive insert.]
Hayes Carll - We’re Only Human CD/LP (Hwy 87 Records)
In a world fueled with instant gratification and distractions pulling our attention in every direction at once, it is easier than ever to silence the voices in our head that beg us to just sit and listen for a second - to face ourselves for who we are and begin the slow, often painful process of accepting our past and moving forward. At it's heart, this record delves into what it means to be human-the emotions, struggles, and growth that come with it-while reminding us to extend grace to ourselves and others along the way. [Indie exclusive red vinyl.]
Charley Crockett - Dollar A Day CD/LP (Island)
Dollar A Day is the new album from GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist Charley Crockett. The second installment in The Sagebrush Trilogy, the album sees Charley reunite with co-producer Shooter Jennings for 15 electrifying new recordings. Like it's predecessor Lonesome Drifter, Dollar A Day was recorded at the fabled Sunset Sound Studio 3 in Hollywood. In Charley's words, "With Lonesome Drifter, it felt like we opened the portal. With Dollar A Day, we stepped through and came out the other side." Available on pale cornflower blue color vinyl with alternate cover art. [Indie exclusive blue vinyl.]

Halestorm - Everest CD/LP (Atlantic)
After several decades together as a band, Halestorm find themselves still climbing. Their sixth full-length album, Everest, represents both a return to the Nashville-based band's roots and an evolution into the next chapter of their career. Recorded with producer Dave Cobb, the aptly-titled Everest is a dark, deeply personal effort that pushed each musician to their artistic limits, ultimately resulting in an evocative, genuine collection of rock songs. [Limited edition pink vinyl.]
Boldy James - Hommage LP (Boldy James)
Hommage is the 20th studio album from prolific Detroit rapper Boldy James. In following the formula that has brought him success, Hommage continues the series of full-length collaborative albums that his fans have come to love, and marks his first project with fellow Detroit producer, Antt Beatz (formerly of Team Eastside, production credits for Lil Baby, 42 Dugg, Eminem, Tee Grizzley). Steeped in the styles and sounds of Detroit, Hommage does exactly that - pays homage to the city that Boldy & Antt Beatz came up in. From the beats, to the tasteful features (all from fellow Detroit artists), to Boldy's iconic style, it's hard to come across an album that represents The Motor City better - polished and magnificent yet undeniably gritty and humbly hardworking. [Indie exclusive graphic eco-mix vinyl.]
Lydia Night - Parody of Pleasure LP (Warner Records)
Parody of Pleasure marks Lydia Night's bold solo debut, a consciously pop-leaning collection born from instinct and a release of previous inhibitions. Executive-produced by Lydia alongside producer Alexis Kesselman (Suki Waterhouse, Joji), the album reveals the full spectrum of her musicality while retaining the independent spirit she's embodied since age 15, navigating themes of self-discovery and the complexities of modern womanhood with a blend of subversive humor, raw vulnerability, and unapologetic self-possession, ultimately transforming the pop genre into a powerful vehicle for personal confession and catharsis. [Limited edition pink vinyl.]
MGK - Lost Americana CD/LP (Interscope)
MGK’s seventh studio album is his own rediscovery of the American dream, a journey to find what has been lost. With help from his longtime collaborators, mgk reaffirms his signature alt-pop rock sound uniquely layered with guitars that are coated with emotion and cinematic sonics. Following the success of his previous albums and recent summer hit “cliché,” mgk has written an emotionally honest new chapter that reflects on his past. [Indie exclusive brick red vinyl with signed insert.]
Osees - Abomination Revealed CD/LP (Deathgod Corp)
The twelve tracks on ABOMINATION REVEALED AT LAST are a hypnotic, maniacal, and propulsive attack on the senses-a fitting reaction to a world suffering from genocide, environmental collapse, state-sanctioned violence, progressing technocracy, and more. The album was recorded by Enrique Tena Padilla, Mario Ramirez and John Dwyer, mixed by Padilla and Dwyer, and mastered by JJ Golden. Osees are John Dwyer (vocals/guitar/synths), Tom Dolas (guitar/samples/keys), Tim Hellman (bass), and Dan Rincon (drums).
Random Gods - Pneuma LP (Souk)
An elusive and quiet figure amidst the Portuguese electronic scene, Timóteo Azevedo aka Random Gods releases his debut album on Discrepant's sub label Souk after his killer appearance in the long sold out Antologia de Música Atípica Portuguesa Vol. 2 compilation back in 2019. Random Gods' futurist visions project themselves through a scavenger-like body music assembled from the hopes and debris of these uncertain and dread-inducing times. Rituals conjured from metal shards, blunted kickdrums, submerged basslines, reverberating textures, cut up vocals and lazer guided melodies.
Teethe - Magic of the Sale CD/LP (Winspear)
Teethe re-emerges with Magic Of The Sale, a soft but steely full-length album where the Texas band's four distinct songwriters, singers, and artists ask a series of interlocked questions about what it means to build a life in a time of shared collapse. The result is a sad and beautiful self-built world of Southern slowcore. Magic Of The Sale represents Teethe's natural next step: a second album, a record label, a slew of guest collaborators (Xandy Chelmis of Wednesday and MJ Lenderman, Charlie Martin of Hovvdy and several other veteran musicians) who represent their Texas roots and new friends they've made in recent years. Still, Teethe took special care to preserve the part of the process that made their debut so special, now with expanded toolkits. [Limited edition purple dusk vinyl.]

Lou Bond - Lou Bond (Real Gone Music)
Lou Bond only made one album but what an album it was. Politically charged, deeply introspective, and wonderfully lyrical, 1974’s Lou Bond is reminiscent of the Eugene McDaniels releases Headless Heroes of the Apocalypse and Outlaw (both out previously on Real Gone) in its outspoken, idiosyncratic social commentary. But there is a sensitivity here that’s devastating; Bond’s falsetto soaring over his strummed acoustic guitar brings to mind Bill Withers (whose “Let Me into Your Life” he covers) at his most affecting, while the orchestrated arrangements summon What’s Going On vibes. With comparisons like those, you know this record is special, but Lou Bond is a one-of-a-kind album that really defies comparison (despite our best efforts). For this ALL-ANALOG reissue, we had our friends at Well Made Music cut lacquers directly from the original tapes, and pressed the record at Gotta Groove Records.
Cryptopsy - Blasphemy Made Flesh LP (Horror Biz)
Cryptopsy's 1994 debut, a raw yet lethal foundation for what would later become None So Vile. Even in its early form, the band defines technical death metal, with Flo Mounier's drumming already a relentless force. The guitar work stands out, weaving unexpected melody into the chaos, while the bass, though prominent, doesn't quite match the weight of its successor. And as always, Lord Worm's vocals are a monstrous presence, cementing the album's brutal and unhinged energy.
Galaxie 500 - CBGB 12.13.88 CD/LP (Silver Current)
After a storied first year as a band releasing and touring behind their critically acclaimed debut album Today, Galaxie 500 closed out 1988 with a quintessential performance at New York City's famed CBGB with every bit of their signature intimacy and autumnal bombast on display. The unusual bill which also included Sonic Youth, B.A.L.L. and Unsane was a benefit show for the zine shop See Hear. Captured here in a raw but inspired board mix by Kramer and restored and mastered from the analog source by Alan Douches at West West Side Music, CBGB 12.13.88 is a live snapshot of a Galaxie fully formed, punctuating the end of their first chapter while poised to step into their next with On Fire the following year.
Girls at Our Best! - Pleasure LP (Radiation Reissues)
Includes replica of all inserts. Girls At Our Best! were one of the greatest and most influential bands to emerge in the early 1980s as part of a new wave of independent acts. DJ John Peel championed them, playing their singles repeatedly and inviting them to record a session for his program. Wry vocalist Judy Evans and brutal yet melodic guitarist James Alan who'd met at art college in Leeds fronted Girls At Our Best!, the proto-Indie band that formed from the ashes of Alan's 1977 punk band SOS! Pleasure, the sole album, reached number two in the Indie Chart. It was an album so different from the rest of the post-punk indie pack that you can still play it now and completely baffle new listeners.
Daniel Johnston - Love Lives Forever 2xLP (Trussed Recordings)
Daniel Johnston's legacy is legendary. The quintessential DIY artist started his career in Austin, TX whilst hawking cassettes from his day job at McDonald's. The rest, as they say, is history and fans of US alternative music from the 1980s onwards know about his work and the people he went on to inspire. This, however, is not a biography; it's a simple piece of communication to let people know that the second pressing of Daniel's radio sessions recorded for the BBC will released on translucent A project inspired by BBC Radio 6 Music's Marc Riley, the tracks have been licensed from the BBC and approved by Daniel's family, management and charity. The sessions were spread across an eight-year period with two sessions for Rob Da Bank and three with Marc Riley (both of whom are executive producers of this album). A few bootleg recordings of these sessions have been available across the years but now they have been lovingly mastered and cut by Frank Arkwright at Abbey Road Studios in London. Daniel was a lifelong fan of The Beatles and the overwhelming consensus from those who knew him was that he would be so proud and excited to have his music mastered above the legendary Studio 2 at Abbey Road. This project's objective is to celebrate Daniel's musical legacy, rather than explore further his well-documented mental health problems. However, profits from the album will go to Daniel's Hi, How Are You Project based in Austin. [Limited edition red vinyl.]
Larry June - Life is Beautiful LP (Freeminded Recs)
A coast-to-coast celebration of luxury, lessons, and longevity, Life Is Beautiful unites three generational talents at the height of their crafts: Larry June, 2 Chainz, and The Alchemist. Over a collection of Alchemist's warm, soul-soaked loops and refined production, Larry and Chainz trade bars soaked in game, gratitude, and grown-man perspective. It's a record that marries the smooth Polish of West Coast cruising with the Southern charm and swagger of Atlanta, all anchored by the smoky jazz textures and dusty drums that only Alchemist can deliver.
John McLaughlin - Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2022 3xCD/2xLP (Earmusic)
One of Rolling Stone's Top 100 Guitarists of All Time, John McLaughlin returns in peak form with Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2022, a stunning performance captured at one of the world's most iconic musical stages. The setlist draws from every corner of McLaughlin's expansive musical journey, including fan favorites like "New Blues Old Bruise" and "El Hombre Que Sabia"-a heartfelt tribute to friend and flamenco legend Paco de Lucia. The band also delivers inspired renditions of Pharoah Sanders' spiritual jazz epic "The Creator Has a Master Plan" and Piero Piccioni's cinematic gem "The Light at the Edge of the World." Recorded with cutting-edge mobile technology and mixed by George Murphy (Shakti, Mumford & Sons, Ellie Goulding) at Eastcote Studios in London, Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2022 is more than a concert-it's an immersive experience that captures the soul, skill, and spontaneity of a guitar legend hailed by Jeff Beck as "the greatest living guitarist."
Odyssey - Odyssey LP (Real Gone Music)
Motown’s L.A.-based Mowest label lasted less than two years, but managed in that short time to release some of the most adventurous music the company ever put out. And probably the most intrepid—and nowadays, adored—Mowest release of them all was the 1972 self-titled release from Odyssey. This one-off brought elite West Coast sessionmen like Wrecking Crew mainstay Don Peake, one-time Chicago member Donnie Dacus, and arranger/orchestrator extraordinaire Gene Page together with a bunch of West Coast hippie rockers (as Peake says, "We were invited to lunch, introduced to some nice people and told we were going to form a band"). The happy result was a record that has appeared on more deejay turntables than you can count, a one-of-a-kind blend of funky Motown bottom with a spacy sensibility and sound that fits right in next to, say, the latest Khruangbin album on your psychedelic chill playlist even as it activates your 5th Dimension sunshine pop endorphins.
Olivia Tremor Control - Explanation II: Instrumental Themes and Dream Sequences 2xLP (Elephant 6 Recording Co.)
Initially released as a bonus CD with the first few thousand copies of their 1996 debut album Music from the Unrealized Film Script: Dusk at Cubist Castle. Explanation II: Instrumental Themes and Dream Sequences consists of nine tracks of ambient sounds, recorded by The Olivia Tremor Control, and it has been claimed that the album will produce quadrophonic sound when played in synchronicity with Dusk at Cubist Castle.
Rebirth Brass Band - Feel Like Funkin’ It Up LP (501 Record Club)

Their album Feel Like Funkin' It Up has become a New Orleans classic with the Mardi Gras hit songs "Do Whatcha Wanna"and "Feel Like Funkin' It Up". This is the first vinyl reissue since its 1989 original pressing. [Indie exclusive colored splatter vinyl.]
Sigh - Scorn Defeat CD/LP (Peaceville)
Sigh formed in 1989/90, featuring mainman Mirai Kawashima, Satoshi Fujinami & Kazuki Ozeki. Their masterful debut 'Scorn Defeat', became one of the country's greatest and most revered metal exports. With a journey through the strange and the psychedelic, incorporating a whole eclectic mix of genre styles & experimentation throughout their career, Sigh has remained a vital creative force in the avantgarde field. However, at it's core, Sigh has always remained true to it's roots of old school metal. With a deep appreciation for the black metal masters of the 80s such as Celtic Frost and Venom, Sigh would weave intricate keyboard textures and skilled piano composition courtesy of Mirai Kawashima among the Frost-fuelled riffing to create an atmospherically distinctive and dark sound. The lyrical content was also unusual for the time, incorporating strong elements of occultism and eastern mysticism to differentiate them somewhat from their Scandinavian peers.
Songs: Ohia - Impala LP (Secretly Canadian)
Impala, the fabled second Songs: Ohia full-length, originally released in 1998 and long out-of-print, gets a much-needed vinyl reissue by Secretly Canadian. This release includes the addition of a remastered demo of 'Tess' originally captured during recording sessions for Impala.
Sophie - PRODUCT CD/LP (Numbers)

SOPHIE classics 'BIPP', 'LEMONADE' and 'VYZEE' are joined by two immaculate 'PRODUCT'-era songs 'OOH' and 'GET HIGHER' recorded and produced at the time, each with colorful single artwork completing the set. [Standard black and crystal clear vinyl are available.]
Various Artists - Habibi Funk: A Selection From Libyan Tapes CD / 2xLP (Habibi Funk)
The third various artists compilation from Habibi Funk. The album is dedicated to the cassette tape scene in Libya from the late 80s to early 2000s, from disco to reggae to pop. All songs previously unreleased outside of Libya and not available on any DSP platforms. Rather than spotlighting the country’s most famous musical exports, the compilation brings forward a mix of overlooked gems and local classics of the cassette era: artists whose work thrived despite political limitations, and scarce international exposure. The music featured here blends reggae rhythms, synthy disco grooves, gritty pop, house, and funk, a vibrant collision of genres that reflects Libya’s unique sonic landscape from the 1980s to the early 2000s.
Various Artists - Stax Revue: Live in ’65 CD/2xLP (Craft Recordings)
In 1965, in the face of social unrest, legendary Memphis label Stax Records put on two pulsating shows at the 5-4 Ballroom in Los Angeles, featuring Rufus Thomas, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, William Bell, Carla Thomas, Wilson Pickett and more. 60 years later the recordings - newly mastered by Joe Tarantino with lacquers cut by Jeff Powell at Take Out Vinyl - have been collected with a bonus set of mostly unreleased performances recorded at Club Paradise, Memphis to form Stax Revue: Live In '65! 2 LP set with board jacket.
