Hitting The Racks
Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's
New Releases
Michaela Anne - These Are the Days CD/LP (Georgia June Records)
These Are The Days is the sixth full-length album from Nashville's Michaela Anne and first release on her own label, Georgia June Records. While Michaela Anne's past work searched for satisfaction in the external world, her new album brings the gaze mindfully inward toward a re-grounding of values. Following two years of major life transitions in which she became a mother at the same time that her own mother suffered a stroke, Michaela Anne used songwriting to shape her understanding of a commonplace life. With life comes change, and love must deepen to hold it all together. These Are The Days reconnects with her rock roots, moving away from classic country toward something raw and resonant. Textured, vibrant, and deeply human, it's ultimately a coming-of-age statement written with the wisdom of a woman in her 30s: a recognition that there is no love without grief, and that growing up means holding both.
Basement - Wired CD/LP (Run for Cover)
After years apart, Basement have relinked for a new album that is bursting with renewed purpose. Wired is the UK-based band's fifth full-length album and first in eight years, and the record signals a return to what drove the band in those earliest days: creative freedom & connection. Songs like title track "Wired," opener "Time Waster" and the fiery "Pick Up the Pieces" are as intense as they are intimate, pushing against the boundaries of anything the band's done before. Navigated by producer John Congleton (Shame, Mannequin Pussy), Wired channels all of the catharsis of previous Basement records with a renewed focus on distortion, imperfection, and strangeness. There is clear inspiration from alt-rock pioneers like Radiohead and Sonic Youth across these songs, but what pulses through every track on Wired is a dedication to experimentation - a risky gambit on the creative force of these five individuals that rewards on every listen. [First Run Club "Wired Swirl" vinyl pressing.]
Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, & the Rajasthan Express - Ranjha CD/LP (World Circuit)
Ranjha is the new collaboration between award-winning composer and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, celebrated composer/musician Shye Ben Tzur, and the Indian ensemble, the Rajasthan Express. The album is a follow-up to their acclaimed 2015 debut, Junun. While Junun was recorded in a makeshift studio within the 15th-century Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan, India, Ranjha was created in a more intimate setting - Jonny Greenwood's studio in Oxford, England. The album features 11 new tracks, blending the group's signature cross-cultural sound with a contemporary edge. [Red & coral splatter vinyl pressing.]
Broken Social Scene - Remember the Humans CD/LP (Arts & Crafts)
Broken Social Scene's 6th LP Remember the Humans, the iconic Toronto band's first album since 2017, is a return to family. Producer Dave Newfeld creates this document of a sprawling collective timelessly in flux: a groove familiar and new, rhythm thundering with the melodic interjections of its many members.
Brother Wallace - Electric Love CD/LP (ATO Records)
Raised in the tiny rural town of West Point, GA - Brother Wallace is a true force of nature. A K-12 music teacher who began playing piano in church at age 11, Wallace teamed up with guitarist/producer Dan Taylor (The Heavy) in dreaming up a body of work built on his electrifying brand of soul music, mining inspiration from Sam Cooke, Little Richard & Johnnie Taylor among others. Recording in England at Real World Studios, Wallace emerged with "Electric Love', his 13-song debut for ATO Records.
The Claypool Lennon Delirium - The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy 2xLP (ATO Records)
The 3rd collaborative album between Les Claypool & Sean Ono Lennon is an elaborate concept record reflecting on morality, the warnings of A.I., and the slippery slope of optimization without empathy. Told across 14 songs - which ooze with classic psychedelic / progressive rock stylings - and the accompanying comic book by Rich Ragsdale, The Great Parrot-Ox and The Golden Egg of Empathy is a peak for both The Claypool-Lennon Delirium and rock music at large. [Indie exclusive cloudy green and cloudy gold color vinyl pressing.]
Commitment - Fear Of LP (Get Better Records)
Debut album from the Philadelphia-based hardcore/powerviolence group, composed of guitarist Jake Smith (of noise rock band Eye Flys), drummer Pierce Jordan (frontman of Soul Glo), bassist Zach Bailey, and vocalist Tati Salazar. Fifteen sharp blasts of fastcore. A brutal tour de force.
Croz Boyce - Croz Boyce LP (Domino)
Debut release from the duo of Dave Portner (Avey Tare) and Brian Weitz (Geologist) of Animal Collective. What if 40 minutes of instrumental music made by two friends passing files across state lines could capture the range of human experience, or at least a disproportionate chunk of it-worry and camaraderie, hope and frustration, tenderness and absurdity? That is the question that steadily emerges across the nine tracks of the self-titled debut from Croz Boyce, the duo of two musicians who have made some of the last quarter-century's most inquisitive music. [Clear vinyl pressing.]
Darkthrone - Pre-Historic Metal CD/LP (Peaceville)
40 years on since the initial formation - under the moniker of Black Death - of what would subsequently grow into influential genre legends, 2026 marks the return of the imperishable Norwegian duo of Fenriz and Nocturno Culto for their new opus of high caliber old metal. The album contains eight tracks of primal epics & gargantuan riffs with organic sound and the ever-present permeating spirit of the 70s and 80s, for a new continuation of the mastery witnessed on 2024's 'It Beckons Us All'. This next chapter presents a vast odyssey through the sonic landscapes of thrash, black, heavy and doom metal and, adorned with a punishing and "in your face" guitar presence, Darkthrone stirs the cauldron of savage creativity with a nod to the writing methods which were indicative of their works of the late 80s, but with a more refined craft. [Limited edition clear orange vinyl pressing.]
Kristin Diable - Impossible Things CD/LP (Well Kept Secret)
A southern original, Kristin Diable's voice bends as whimsical and unyielding as the Mississippi River. Her timeless melodies and sharp-eyed lyrics channel the mystical within the everyday, revealing the silver lining inside ordinary moments. The result is a sound that feels both grounded and otherworldly, and unmistakably her own. Diable's previous release, Create Your Own Mythology, recorded in Nashville with producer Dave Cobb, was praised by NPR, American Songwriter, and Southern Living as one of the year's best. Her new album was recorded at the legendary Dockside Studios in south Louisiana with producer Ben Alleman (Dr. John, Ryan Adams, Jenny Lewis, Madi Diaz), and it sounds like a radio tuned to two timelines at once: dream pop echoes drifting through a shotgun house, Sunday morning mercy with Saturday night glitter still clinging to its boots. [White vinyl pressing.]
Drop Nineteens - Fools 7" (Wharf Cat Records)
Drop Nineteens release their first new track, "Fools," since their return to the spotlight in 2023 with the Hard Light album. The track sees them in swooning shoegaze mode featuring layers of glide guitar beneath gentle vocals sung by Greg Ackell and Paula Kelley. The band re-issued 'Delaware' and '1991' in 2024 & 2025 respectively, gaining even more accolades along the way & solidifying the band's reputation as a first wave shoegaze band "in a league of their own" (Pitchfork).
Earl Sweatshirt / MIKE - Pompeii // Utility 2xCD/2xLP (10K Records)
Pompeii // Utility unites two kindred spirit rappers from opposite coasts within Surf Gang's world-building genius. Structured as a true double album - MIKE on one side, Earl on the other -Pompeii // Utility unfolds through a rotating cast of side quests and characters from within its shared creative ecosystem. Jadasea, Anysia Kym, Niontay, Na-Kel Smith, and Lerado Khalil all make appearances, passing through the album's vast terrain, while behind the scenes, Surf Gang producers Harrison, EvilGiane, Elipropperr, and Flea Diamonds wield the gritty, raspy, animated beats that build its container. Arriving on the heels of 2025 albums from both rappers - MIKE's Showbiz! And Earl's Live, Laugh, Love - Pompeii // Utility plays like a victory lap that traces their friendship back over more than a decade, offering something rooted and communal - a shared understanding of care, joy, grief, process, and responsibility to something larger than yourself. [Available on black vinyl and as a limited edition Gumby green vinyl pressing.]
Film - Permanence LP (Lauren Records)
Film is composed of singer and bassist Ken Vasoli (The Starting Line, Vacationer), guitarist Joe Reinhart (Hop Along, Algernon Cadwallader, Dogs On Acid), and drummer TJ DeBlois (Halfway to Holland, A Life Once Lost). What began as a low-pressure collaboration during the early days of the pandemic quickly evolved into something more instinctual: music made without overthinking, rooted in the raw spirit of punk and post-hardcore.
The Flatliners - Cold World CD/LP (Equal Vision Records)
2026 release from the Canadian alt-rock/pop-punk band. [Light blue vinyl pressing.]
Frozen Soul - No Place of Warmth CD (Century Media)
The third album from Dallas, Texas' sentinels of "Cold School Death Metal" is a journey through a graveyard of pain, loss, and revenge that's reconfigured into a statement of empowerment, strength, and self-worth. Produced and mixed by Josh Schroeder (Lorna Shore), Frozen Soul has honed its arsenal to its deadliest edge yet. Tracks like the crushing "Dreadnought" (featuring Sanguisugabogg's Devin Swank) and the anthemic "Killin' Time (Until It's Time to Kill)" hit with a brutality and clarity the band has only hinted at until now.
Amy Grant - The Me That Remains CD/LP (Amy Grant Productions)
Amy Grant's first collection of all-original songs in 13 years, The Me That Remains. The 10-track project was produced by Mac McAnally, and reflects on healing, connection, endurance and grace. Grant previewed the project last month with the release of "The 6th of January (Yasgur's Farm)." The project features collaborations with Ruby Amanfu, Vince Gill, Sarah Cannon and Corrina Gill. Grant released the title track, which she wrote alongside McAnally, today.
Aldous Harding - Train on the Island CD/LP (4AD)
New Zealand-based musician and songwriter Aldous Harding's fifth album was co-produced with long-time collaborator John Parish (PJ Harvey, Dry Cleaning, Sparklehorse) at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales, where the pair recorded Harding's previous albums Party (2017), Designer (2019) and Warm Chris (2022). Musical contributions to the new recordings come from pedal steel player Joe Harvey-Whyte; harpist Mali Llywelyn; synth artist Thomas Poli; drummer Sebastian Rochford (Polar Bear); and Huw Evans (H. Hawkline), across bass, vocals, acoustic/electric guitar, and organ. [Indie exclusive blue vinyl pressing.]
Josiah & the Bonnevilles - As Is CD/LP (Rounder)
Josiah and the Bonnevilles is the moniker for Josiah Leming, a powerful acoustic performer and prolific singer-songwriter amassing attention from millions across the globe. His new album As Is, produced by Konrad Snyder (Noah Kahan, Ben Rector) and Leming, features co-writes with Marc Scibilia, Colin Pastore, Jake Finch, Natalie Hemby, Todd Clark and more. As Is central themes draw from hard-won experiences featuring songs full of reflection, resilience, heartbreak and love.
Koyo - Barely Here CD (Pure Noise)
Melodic hardcore band Koyo returns with Barely Here, a sharpened and more powerful continuation of the foundation they established on their acclaimed debut LP Would You Miss It? Released after years of relentless touring, the album stays true to the band's original mission while pushing their sound forward with greater intensity and confidence. Rather than chasing reinvention, Barely Here turns the dials up on what makes Koyo who they are, capturing a snapshot of the highs, lows, and everything in between through songs the band genuinely love and want to hear.
The Lemon Twigs - Look for Your Mind CD/LP/cassette (Captured Tracks)
Look for Your Mind, the sixth full-length from the D'Addario brothers, carries an undercurrent of paranoia and suspicion beneath its power poppy surface. New to this album is the inclusion of live Twigs Reza Matin (drums) and Danny Ayala (bass), as well as Eva Chambers of Tchotchke, to the rhythm section. [Clear vinyl pressing.]
Lykke Li - The Afterparty CD/LP (Futures Music Group)
Lykke Li's The Afterparty is a journey through the night, turning the collective feeling of hopelessness into a celebratory revenge. With hooky choruses, maximalist arrangements and "apocalyptic bongos," The Afterparty asks the eternal question. It's 4am: can we have one last euphoric dance before the hangover crushes us? [Indie exclusive clear vinyl pressing.]
Ashley McBryde - Wild CD/2xLP (Warner Nashville)
On her fifth studio album, Wild, Grand Ole Opry Member and GRAMMY, CMA, and ACM Award-winning singer-songwriter Ashley McBryde uncovers the deepest layers of her lived experience, raw, honest, and unvarnished like never before. From the grit and grind of growing up in the shadow of Arkansas's Ozark Mountains, to the enduring echo of her fundamentalist upbringing; the fallout of drinking too much and hard-won reckoning that led her to sobriety to the trauma passed down through her lineage. When matched with McBryde's thrilling collision of timeless country and blistering rock & roll, the result is equal parts daring autobiography and courageous reclamation of her most untamed nature.
Muna - Dancing on the Wall CD/LP (Saddest Factory)
Muna's journey has always been about holding space for the complex, messy, ecstatic realities of life, and with their fourth album, Dancing On The Wall, they've never been sharper, darker, or more exhilarating. Emerging from the sparkly, confetti-strewn heights of their 2022 self-titled record, Muna now channel the anxious, uncertain energy of living in a Los Angeles defined by political tension, environmental decay, and the quiet pressures of millennial precarity. The result is a record that feels both intimate and spectacular, a pop world built with teeth, wit, and emotional resonance, a soundtrack for hearts simultaneously on fire and observing the chaos around them. [Red vinyl pressing.]
My Morning Jacket - Peacelands LP (ATO Records)
A collection of peaceful protest songs, some covers and some original Jim James compositions. [Eco-mix vinyl pressing.]
Linda Perry - Let It Die Here CD/2xLP (Kill Rock Stars)
New studio album from the former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman. Linda Perry's 'Let It Die Here' is a raw, spiritual reckoning, a journey through inherited pain, grief, and redemption. Across seventeen tracks that blend confessional poetry, cinematic rock, and vulnerable introspection, Perry confronts the ghosts of her past - mothers, lovers, and the darker corners of self. The record moves from the streetlight confessions of 'Balboa Park' to the searing surrender of 'Let It Die Here,' culminating in 'Albatross,' a release from the weight she has carried her whole life. It is an album about release, letting go of guilt, embracing imperfection, and finding beauty in survival. [Desert Glass color vinyl pressing.]
India Ramey - Villain Era CD/LP (Blue Elan Records)
The return of Nashville outlaw siren India Ramey. While 2024's Baptized By The Blaze was the story of Ramey's journey through the fire, a harrowing passage toward healing and empowerment, Villain Era is firmly rooted in her own reckoning; it doesn't ask for permission, it kicks the door wide open. Ramey left the South for the first time to record in Los Angeles with two-time Grammy-nominated producer Eric Corne. Together, they built a soundscape as cinematic as it is cathartic, with a powerhouse band including Ted Russell Kamp, Eugene Edwards, Chris Masterson, Eleanor Whitmore, Kevin Brown, Boo Bernstein, and Haley Spence Brown. The result is Villain Era: ten spaghetti western-meets-honky tonk vignettes penned solely by Ramey, laced with grit, gallows humor, and emotional precision. [Clear vinyl pressing.]
Stephen Sanchez - Love, Love, Love CD/LP (Mercury)
The follow-up album to Stephen Sanchez's debut album Angel Face with the global smash, "Until I Found You," is finally here - Love, Love, Love! On the new record, Stephen muses about love in its many forms - partners, friends, neighbors, and even strangers - brought to life by rich vocals and a technicolor pop sound. The title track epitomizes the album's themes, as Stephen proclaims the importance of showing love to others. [Sunflower yellow vinyl pressing.]
Social Distortion - Born to Kill CD/LP (Epitaph)
Orange County's Social Distortion returns with its first album in 15 years with Born to Kill. Throughout the collection, Mike Ness revisits the sounds of the 1970s, his formative adolescent years. Songs like the rowdy title track that serves as the album's mission statement, along with the riff-laden "Partners in Crime," the nostalgic "The Way Things Were," and rollicking "Tonight" are songs that fit in across any of Social Distortion's various eras. [Indie exclusive pink and yellow vinyl pressing.]
Sports - Sports LP (Sports)
Oklahoma-based dream-pop duo Sports share their long-awaited self- titled album. The 12-track project brings together a run of acclaimed singles released over the past year alongside a collection of brand-new songs that show the band sharpening and expanding their sound. Bright, rhythmic and textural, the album moves between smooth, shimmering pop and more off-kilter, distorted moments, drawing from indie-pop, electronic and psychedelic influences without settling into a fixed identity.
Tauro - Act 1 LP (Birthday Cake Records)
Tauro is the collaborative project led by Toronto-based artist Cynthia Tauro, developed in close creative partnership with Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene. Act 1 blends emotionally direct pop songwriting with jazz-informed harmony, synth-driven textures, and understated rhythmic experimentation. Drawing influence from artists like Air, Sade, Carole King, and Tracey Thorn, the songs balance intimacy with forward motion, shaped by recent personal upheavals and a shared interest in following the natural direction of each song rather than forcing a predetermined sound.
Unwed Sailor - High Remembrance LP (Current Taste)
Formed in late 90s Seattle and currently based in Tulsa, Unwed Sailor craft a unique form of bass-led, instrumental pop with post-rock dynamics. For their eleventh album, High Remembrance, core members Johnathon Ford (bass, keys, guitar), Matt Putman (drums), and David Swatzell (guitar) embrace the bittersweet comforts of memory with shades of alt-rock grit, late 70s AM radio swagger, and rapturous new wave abandon, among other touchstones that defy easy categorization.
Vienna Vienna - Entertain Me LP (Pulse Records)
Blending cinematic production with razor-sharp lyricism, Vienna Vienna has quickly become one of the most talked-about new voices in alternative music. After a string of viral clips and a swelling grassroots fanbase kicked off with his protest rock anthem "God Save the Queens," he's poised to become one of 2026's most exciting emerging artists in the alt/indie-pop scene. [Light blue vinyl pressing.]
Reissues, Comps, Live Recordings, Vault Excavations...
The American Analog Set - Destroy Destroy Destroy 6xLP (Numero)
The complete studio recordings from The American Analog Set’s second chapter. Destroy Destroy Destroy gathers the Texas slow-krauters Know By Heart, Promise Of Love, and Set Free LPs, Everything Ends In Spring EP, and an additional two discs of singles, B-sides, alternates and outtakes. Accompanying 36-page booklet is flooded with photos and handwritten scraps from the band’s dreamy post-Y2K era. Punk as fuck, for real. [Apple red vinyl pressing.]
Laurie Anderson & Sexmob - Let X=X (Live) 2xCD/3xLP (Nonesuch)
Let X=X is a collection of twenty-three songs recorded live during a 2023 tour by Laurie Anderson and the jazz band Sexmob-Steven Bernstein and Briggan Krauss on brass, Kenny Wollesen on percussion, Douglas Wieselman on winds and guitar, and Tony Scherr on bass. The album includes many favorite songs from throughout Anderson's career, performed in new arrangements-plus one by Lou Reed and Metallica, "Junior Dad."
Baby Charles - I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor / Time Wasting 7" (Record Kicks)
Record Kicks reissues the Baby Charles 7" by popular demand, featuring their explosive afro-funk take on Arctic Monkeys' modern classic "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor", backed with the deep-groove "Time Wasting". Originally released as a limited 45 in 2008, it sold out within weeks and became a holy-grail DJ/collector 7". Drawn from the band's landmark 2008 debut LP, a cornerstone of the European deep-funk revival, this repress puts it back on turntables.
Camera Obscura - Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi LP (Merge)
Debut album by Glasgow's Camera Obscura, celebrating 25 years in 2026. Never before available on vinyl in North America and long OOP in Europe. This anniversary LP reissue includes all twelve original tracks, contrary to the European pressing of 2001, which omitted "Let's Go Bowling" and "Shine Like a New Pen" for a total of only ten tracks.
The Congos - Congo Ashanti LP (VP Records)
Emerging onto the worldstage via Lee Scratch Perry's 1977 masterpiece Heart Of The Congos, the group established a unique cache in the international reggae market. Cedric Myton, Watty Burnett, and Roy Johnson struck out on their own to produce Image of Africa and Congo Ashanti, both released in 1979. Each album is remembered for a distinct studio sound, more mainstream than Scratch's hazy experiments and in line with the late 70s golden era. Featured players include Ernest Ranglin, Sly & Robbie, and Tommy McCook. Newly remastered with liner notes and rare images. [Indie exclusive yellow with red splatter vinyl pressing.]
The Dead Milkmen - Big Lizard in My Backyard LP (The Giving Groove)
The debut album that started it all back in 1985. Remastered and featuring classic hits such as "Tiny Town", "Dean's Dream", and, of course, "Bitchin' Camaro", this is the collection of songs that propelled the Milkmen onto the indie rock scene. Includes a download card with bonus tracks. ["Bitchin' Camaro" red vinyl pressing.]
Deicide - Once Upon the Cross LP (Real Gone Music)
From the cover art to the lyrics, death metal legends Deicide didn't give an inch when it came to their uncompromising anti-church stance on their 1995 release Once Upon the Cross. In fact, the album included samples from the film The Last Temptation of Christ, which was itself accused of blasphemy. But the band was hardly standing still, as the gobsmacking guitar pyrotechnics of Eric and Brian Hoffman and furious fusillades of bassist/vocalist Glen Benton and drummer Steve Asheim became ever more awe-inspiring and, dare we say it, miraculous. [Milky clear with blood splatter vinyl pressing.]
Neil Diamond - Wild at Heart CD/LP (Neil Diamond)
Neil Diamond is a legendary artist, songwriter and producer who has to date sold more than 130 million records worldwide, including more than 30 platinum or multi-platinum albums. His risk-taking career has delivered many surprises. Among them is an enormously popular collaboration with iconic producer Rick Rubin that delivered the stunning, stripped-down 12 Songs and the No. 1 album, Home Before Dark. And now from their creative partnership comes a new, never-before-heard album featuring 10 tracks written solely by Neil. Drawn from the Home Before Dark sessions, featuring such musical luminaries as Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench of the Heartbreakers, Wild At Heart is the culmination of the unexpected, deeply felt, Neil Diamond x Rick Rubin trilogy.
Antoine Dougbé et L'Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou - Antoine Dougbé et L'Orchestre Poly-Rythmo De Cotonou 2xLP (Analog Africa)
Who was Antoine Dougbé? Even the most dedicated crate-digger might go their whole life without stumbling across any of the three LPs he released in the late 1970s and early '80s. Yet all the musicians who happened to cross paths with him remember with a mixture of admiration and fear; for Antoine Dougbé was not merely one of the most inventive songwriters to emerge from the fertile music scene of Cotonou, but also a powerful Vodún initiate whose close connection to the spirit world allowed him to refer to himself as "the Devil's prime minister." In Cotonou, a city that had established itself as one of the centres of the West African music scene, a young Dougbé found himself drawn to Cuban son and rumba. But his fascination with the traditional rhythms of Benin, especially those associated with Vodún ceremonies, allowed Dougbé to take his music in directions far removed from anything happening in the Congo. Dougbé neither sang nor performed any of the main instrumental parts of his songs. It has been suggested that his involvement with Vodún, in which singing plays a crucial role in important rituals, effectively prohibited him from using his voice for anything as frivolous as a popular song. Whether driven by the thrill of the music or by fear of crossing the Devil's prime minister, Dougbé's records all feature Orchestre Poly-Rythmo playing at the absolute height of their considerable powers. Dougbé released three LPs and a handful of singles under his own name, but never quite found the audience he deserved. By the early eighties he had vanished from the music scene. Analog Africa now brings his small but extraordinary body of work to a wider audience with a double LP compilation featuring 12 songs, a whirlwind of circular guitars, synths, mesmerising layers of Afro-Cuban and Cavacha madness.
Peter Gabriel - Live at WOMAD 1982 CD/2xLP (Real World Prod.)
Available on CD and vinyl for the first time. Peter Gabriel's performance from the very first WOMAD festival in Somerset, England, featuring a mix of classics and brand new material at the time.
Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump LP (Dangerbird Records)
Grandaddy's classic album and one of the most beloved and prescient indie rock records of its era is back in print in a limited edition repress on "Dial-a-View Blue" vinyl. Originally released in 2000, Pitchfork called The Sophtware Slump "a sad, quaint, low-key Y2K-era classic," and the album's themes of technology, isolation, and environmental decay grow more relevant with each passing year. The rapturous, multi-generational reception to Grandaddy's recent tour celebrating the 25th anniversary demonstrates the enduring legacy of this seminal band.
Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump... on a Wooden Piano LP (Dangerbird Records)
Originally released in 2011. A hushed and intimate reimagining of a landmark indie classic, Grandaddy's The Sophtware Slump... On a Wooden Piano returns in a limited eco-mix "Tangelo" vinyl pressing. On this version, Jason Lytle transforms the album's lush, synth-driven arrangements into stark piano meditations, highlighting the fragile humanity at the core of the songs.
His Name is Alive - Livonia CD/LP (4AD)
Originally released in 1990. While His Name Is Alive's sound was in line with the gothic echoes of labelmates Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance, they also had a different, nonpareil quality, something existing on the boundary of this earth and another realm further underground. It was this otherness that piqued interest and proved the fulcrum of an unpredictable sound that often changed tack before listeners could second guess. A product of nearly ten years of Defever's home recordings, produced and mixed by Watts-Russell and his This Mortal Coil collaborator John Fryer, their debut Livonia cemented the band's presence among the 4AD's well-established ethereal lineage, reinventing and refracting the 4AD sound through a prism. A study in shadows, the album examined the dual themes of love and loss, being woozily delivered as if dreamlike.
His Name is Alive - Home is In Your Head CD/LP (4AD)
Originally released in 1991. The band's second album with 4AD, recorded in Warren Defever's home studio and remixed by Ivo Watts-Russell and John Fryer (as with their debut), sees 23 songs quick-firing through emotions, with moments of soothing calm soon clashing with white noise and visceral chaos. Highlights include "Her Eyes Were Huge", on which lightly strummed acoustic guitar uplift Karin Oliver's swooning, gossamer drawl; the synth-led, inquisitive and prickly "Are We Still Married?"; and pensive instrumental waltz "Siting Still Moving Still Staring Outlooking". A varied yet grounded compilation of new material and old (some dating back to Defever's junior high days), it finds the band entering a confident creative stride, leaving listeners enthralled by both its beauty and darkness and proving Defever's inspired productions utterly unique.
His Name is Alive - Mouth by Mouth CD/LP (4AD)
Originally released in 1993. His Name Is Alive's final record on 4AD, the first where the band controlled all processes including mixing, saw a marked shift; their most diverse, yet accessible catalog entry. The project's soaring growth over time allowed Defever to employ an extraordinarily adventuring approach to the record's sound and vision, indulging his love for all kinds of music, be it tastes of looped dub ("Lord, Make Me A Channel of Your Peace", "The Homesick Waltz"), sugar-sweet 1960s pop ("Baby Fish Mouth", "Lip"), distortion-laden dream-gaze ("Can't Go Wrong Without You"), evocative alt-noise ("Sick"), or strummy folk ("Where Knock Is Open Wide"). Embracing the surreal and turning their experimentalism up a notch and with Defever's studio skills truly blossoming, many see this as a high point for the band.
Hurray for the Riff Raff - Live Forever CD/2xLP (Nonesuch)
Live Forever is the first live album by American band Hurray for the Riff Raff. Recorded during performances at Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago on July 17th-18th, 2025, the album was produced by Chicago-based musician Johnny Wilson. Spanning 14 songs, Live Forever presents The Past Is Still Alive in its entirety, as well as a selection of Hurray for the Riff Raff's show-stopping, set-defining staples: decrying ICE on the poetic 'Precious Cargo' and The Navigator's anthemic 'Pa'lante'; the prescient digital age critique of 'Pyramid Scheme'; and ripping through a folk-rock rendition of Life on Earth's 'Rhododendron'.
I'm With Her - Sing Me Alive CD (Rounder)
Grammy-winning trio, I'm with Her, present 'Sing Me Alive,' a stunning collection of live songs from their critically lauded albums 'See You Around' and 'Wild and Clear and Blue' along with fan-favorite covers. Throughout 'Sing Me Alive' the magic behind the band's evocative songwriting, luminous harmonies, and sophisticated arrangements are on full display, ultimately offering an enduring example of the brilliance in their collaboration and the intricacy of their live performance.
Isis - In the Absence of Truth 2xLP (Ipecac)
Originally released in 2006. In the Absence of Truth expands upon the group's previous full-length, Panopticon, further exploring lead singer Aaron Turner's clean vocals (though his former techniques, which relied more on screaming and growling, are still present as well). Musically, the album is dynamic, ranging from extended musical ambience to almost tribal drumming. Isis continued their lengthy songwriting; In the Absence of Truth is Isis' longest record, at almost 65 minutes. Although the band has been defunct for over a decade, their impact on metal is still reverberating, and sales continue to make it one of Ipecac's top artists.
Isis - Wavering Radiant 2xLP (Ipecac)
Originally released in 2009. The album was produced by Joe Barresi, and the band split just over a year after its release. The album continues Isis' history of lengthy songwriting, yet presents a slight departure from the soft-loud dynamics and post-metal aesthetic which characterized previous releases. It is widely considered the band's most accessible release in their catalog. Although the band has been defunct for over a decade, their impact on metal is still reverberating, and sales continue to make it one of Ipecac's top artists.
