Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

American Football - American Football (LP4) CD/2xLP/cassette (Polyvinyl)

Blending atmospheric textures with emotive, post-rock style catharsis, LP4 is unlike anything American Football have recorded thus far, yet it fits right in with their evolving and beautiful catalog. Recorded during a 10-day retreat at Panoramic House in Stinson Beach, CA, LP4 finds the band intentionally walking into the abyss - themes of divorce, upheaval, and uncertainty are at the forefront, yet the band sounds more engaged and legitimized than ever before. The album also features additional guest vocals from Turnstile's Brendan Yates ("No Feeling"), Wisp ("Wake Her Up"), and Rainer Maria's Caithlin de Marrais ("Blood On My Blood"). LP4 is an ambitious artistic statement from a band who have continued to push the boundaries of genre and culture. [Available as a red vinyl pressing and an indie exclusive "Goldenrod Mix" pressing.]

Tori Amos - In Times of Dragons 2xCD/2xLP (Decca)

"In Times of Dragons is a metaphorical story about the fight for Democracy over Tyranny, reflecting the current abhorrent non-accidental burning down of democracy in real time by the 'Dictator believing Lizard Demons' in their usurpation of America." - Tori Amos [Vinyl shipped late and will arrive next week.]

The Black Keys - Peaches! CD/LP (Warner)

Peaches! is the Akron duo's fourteenth studio album (their sixth since 2019), a visceral and raw 10-song collection described by singer Dan Auerbach as the band's "most natural record" since their 2002 debut, The Big Come Up. In similar DIY spirit, the album was recorded with all musicians playing in same room with few overdubs, and it's the first record mixed entirely by the band themselves since 2006's Magic Potion. The songs chosen reflect Auerbach and bandmate Patrick Carney's obsessive record-collecting habit, which in recent years has escalated into an ongoing series of Record Hang DJ-set dance parties where they spin vintage 45s for packed, high-energy dancefloors. [Indie exclusive bone color vinyl pressing.]

Gabrielle Cavassa - Diavola CD/LP (Blue Note)

With her riveting Blue Note debut Diavola, vocalist Gabrielle Cavassa makes her artistic arrival with an album that unveils her range as a band leader, a songwriter, and a fearless song interpreter who treats each gesture with subtlety and reverence. Co-produced by Joshua Redman & Don Was, Diavola is a collection of original songs and luminous arrangements that features an extraordinary cast of collaborators with Jeff Parker on guitar, Paul Cornish on piano, Larry Grenadier on bass, Brian Blade on drums, and Redman on tenor saxophone.

Florence Dore - Hold the Spark CD (Propeller Sound)

With a narrative bent that ranks her with the likes of James McMurtry and an ear for melody that has earned her comparisons with Lucinda Williams, Florence Dore delivers rich storytelling with plenty of wit. Served up in rich, emotional vocals and backed by a killer rock band, the songs on Hold the Spark span the spectrum ranging from a tear-jerking tender love song about Florence's daughter to a hilarious Stooges-like rocker about the stupidity of academic meetings; and from a sweet, wise reflection about a years-long missed romantic opportunity to an Aimee Mann-like reflection on mortality. Hold the Spark, undoubtedly Florence's strongest offering yet, features an all-star cast of Americana greats, including Jason Wilber (John Prine) and Chris Masterson (The Wallflowers, Steve Earle & the Dukes) on guitars and husband Will Rigby (Steve Earle & the Dukes, The dB's) on drums.

Dove - After All the Rain Has Gone / Grind On 7" (Deena)

First release from the new Daptone imprint, Deena. Dove is a force of nature! First heard by a national audience at just 17, her voice stood out not for trends or tricks, but for its command, range, and unmistakable soul. Deeply influenced by Tina Turner, she sings with grit, restraint and intention, rooted in the tradition of classic American R&B and pop. "After All The Rain Is Gone" is a heavy, mid-tempo track popping with Memphis-style horns, dripping with Southern Soul and Gospel fervor. A tale of struggle that promises a better tomorrow. "Grind On" is a '60s influenced stomper that is sure to turn heads in the UK and abroad.

Maya Hawke - Maitreya Corso CD/2xLP (Mom + Pop)

Recorded in New York between Reservoir Studios in New York City and Dreamland in upstate New York, the album was co-produced by Christian Lee Hutson and Jonathan Low. It stands as an ode to Maya's musical community, created alongside close friends and collaborators Benjamin Lazar Davis, Will Graefe, Michael Riddleberger, and Odessa Jorgensen. The album's packaging draws from Maya's own watercolor paintings, developed in collaboration with Shane Gelinas. [Baby blue & bone vinyl pressing.]

Hiss Golden Messenger - I'm People CD/LP+7" (Chrysalis)

I'm People is a vivid, deeply human album born from a period of rupture, renewal, and vast American wandering. Written across Bolinas, the North Carolina Piedmont, and a Santa Fe motel room, the record traces the artist's search for clarity through landscapes both external and internal. These songs move through heartbreak, aging, fatherhood, desire, disillusionment, and the hard-won hope that remains after the spirit has been scraped bare. Produced with Josh Kaufman at Dreamland, a decommissioned church outside Woodstock, the album carries the warmth of musicians playing live in a circle, stained-glass light filtering across guitars, drums, and upright bass. Contributions from Bruce Hornsby, Sam Beam, Marcus King, Sara Watkins, Amy Helm, Eric D. Johnson, and members of Dawes enrich a sound world that feels immediate, vulnerable, and fully alive. [Indie exclusive splatter color vinyl pressing with bonus 7".]

Illit - MAMIHLAPINATAPAI [IT'S ME Ver.] CD (Belift Lab)

Illit returns with their 4th Mini Album 'MAMIHLAPINATAPAI'. Contents: Folder Package, Saddle-Stitched Photobook (64p), Accordion Photobook (22p), Postcard, Sticker Sheet, Graphic Sticker, CD-R, CD Envelope, Eyeglasses-Shaped Sticker Envelope, Eyeglasses-Shaped Sticker, Group Poster, Unit Poster (2ea), Selfie Photocard A (1of 5), Selfie Photocard B (1of 5), US/EU Retail Excl: Photocard (1of 6). Kneecap - Fenian CD/LP (Heavenly)

Kneecap return to bend genre, language, and rules. The most talked about artists in the world are turning the page. A new chapter, new sounds, new manifestos. A blistering album that revels in darkness while bursting through the void with illuminated revery. Produced by Dan Carey (Fontaines D.C., Kae Tempest, Wet Leg), Fenian upends expectations with an expansive sonic palate, traversing acid house, trip-hop, dubstep, and more. Masters of rave and rap theatre, Fenian represents Kneecap's most sophisticated exploration of language and sounds. More darkness. More confrontation. More craic. More energy. More solidarity. More absolute bangers. And more fuel for the unrelenting engine that powers this unstoppable force. [Red & black color vinyl pressing.]

Sofia Kourtesis - DJ Kicks: Sofia Kourtesis CD/2xLP (K7)

For Sofia Kourtesis, joy is a living practice. It's evident in her effervescent stage presence and bombastic sets, which confidently traverse through house, electro-pop and melodic techno. The Peruvian DJ and producer has forged a vibrant and illustrious career that has taken her to all corners of the globe. Kourtesis's debut DJ-Kicks mix is a potent blend of the beautiful, complex emotional soup that has made her connect so deeply with her fans. Features four new exclusive tracks by Sofia Kourtesis, along with exclusives by Jon Hopkins, Myd, Laurence Guy, Axel Boman, JOY (Anonymous) & more.

Lip Critic - Theft World CD/LP (Partisan Records)

Lip Critic's 2024 Partisan debut Hex Dealer was one of the most-hyped experimental releases of that year ("Like the B-52s on ketamine" -Paste) and signaled the Brooklyn band's arrival as a borderline-batshit creative force. Theft World is their next chapter, built again from the chaos of two drummers locked in psychic combat, a sampler that sounds like it was struck by lightning, and frontman Bret Kaser's paranoid preacher energy. But where Hex Dealer leapt from one absurdist vignette to the next, Theft World plays like a fully locked-in transmission. Themes orbit around the concept of theft, not just as a political force or digital dilemma, but as a surreal, emotional constant. Club rhythms and hardcore breakdowns pull as much from Tyler the Creator's 'Igor' and Korn as they do Skrillex and Soul Coughing, coming together to soundtrack a world that's constantly being striped apart and resold.

Mclusky - I sure am getting sick of this bowling alley LP (Ipecac)

Mclusky are a band who were a band, weren't a band, then are a band again. They formed in the late nineties and unformed, for the first time, in 2005, after three albums, opinions of which can be found on the internet. The path to re-becoming a band started in 2014, and 2025 saw them release their first record in twenty years. Now in 2026, they continue with more new music in the form of this 6-song mini album. The band's return has been met with excitement, especially from the press where places like NPR exclaimed "Progressive, weird, snotty post-punk with a real sense of humor and grandiosity. This music is just bursting with creativity."

Jason Moran - Shards CD/LP (Red Hook Records)

Shards is a oneness of performance and transformation, transformation as performance. As Jason Moran and Marcus Gilmore play, BlankFor.ms records micro fragments of time and sends them back to his collaborators sped up, slowed down, reversed, broken into ever tinier grains of data and smeared into a sparkling blur. Moran and Gilmore receive glimpses into their immediate past, or even further back in time, like they're playing into a broken mirror - not just cracked in its visual plane, but in the sense of its shards shattering time and light, showing them past and future. [Clear vinyl pressing.]

Kacey Musgraves - Middle of Nowhere CD/LP (Lost Highway)

Middle of Nowhere is the sixth studio album from eight-time Grammy Award-winner Kacey Musgraves and is made for two-stepping. The collection draws from a love of Texas dancehall classics, humorous takes on the human condition, and the space where traditional Country borders many sounds, including Norteño and even Zydeco. Fresh yet familiar, and classically Kacey: honest, fearless, immersive, and always ready to wink at life’s twists and turns. [Available in a clear with multi-color splatter "Rodeo Clown" pressing and a "Whiskey" color pressing.]

Emily Nenni - Movin' Shoes CD/LP (New West)

Whenever Emily Nenni is onstage, she welcomes everybody to the dancefloor. The California-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter wants the honkytonk to be a place of escape, where fans can shed their troubles for a few hours and feel safe and free. Movin' Shoes is an album about how we treat each other and how we treat ourselves. Confident in its touchstones and compassionate in its insights, Movin' Shoes eloquently and wryly blends southern soul from Memphis and Muscle Shoals with southern rock from Macon and outlaw country from Austin. [Indie exclusive gold vinyl pressing. CD and vinyl editions autographed by Emily!]

Maisy Owen - Dark on a Sunny Day CD/LP (Tompkins Square)

Maisy Owen, a Nashville native, has been surrounded by music and the art of songcraft just about all her life. First came the viola at the age of 9, then guitar where she embraced fingerpicking while soaking in influences from Nick Drake, Bert Jansch, Mazzy Star and David Olney. Raised in a musical family, her father Gwil Owen is an Academy Award-nominated songwriter. 'Dark on a Sunny Day' is her debut album.

Ratboys - Singin' to an Empty Chair 2xLP (New West)

Green & brown marble vinyl pressing. Despite its title, Ratboys’ new album Singin’ to an Empty Chair is not defined by what’s missing. Rather, it’s the beginning of an important dialogue with a close loved one from whom vocalist Julia Steiner finds herself estranged. The music on the band’s sixth studio album fills the space that person left behind with 11 songs showcasing Ratboys at the peak of their powers — twangy, effervescent, as confident as they’ve ever been, and perhaps more emotionally interrogative than ever before. Reconvening with co-producer Chris Walla, the music veers from bubbly power-pop on “Anywhere” to irresistible post-country on “Penny in the Lake,” along with heart-piercing ballads like “Just Want You to Know the Truth” and an exhilarating detour into the extraterrestrial on “Light Night Mountains All That." Fittingly, as the album begins by extending a hand into the void, it concludes with a scene of serenity – all while weaving candid honesty, humor, chaos, and whimsy along the way.

Seefeel - Sol.Hz CD/LP

Seefeel return with their first full-length album in fifteen years - a beautiful, hazy and blissed out collection of fractured melodies and vaporous textures. In some ways, this can be regarded as Seefeel's 'dub' album - the deceptively cloud-like arrangements of Mark Clifford are somewhat ambient adjacent at low volume, but blasting out of a proper sound system, the cavernous bass undertow and skillful employment of effects are more apparent, messing with the listener's perception of time and audio placement. As always with Seefeel though, it never drifts too far into cold experimentalism or synthetic texture, the heavily manipulated vocals of Sarah Peacock lending the tracks a vital human element, with processed guitar loops allowing slivers of melody to drift through the trails of delay. Their influence has been cited by a new generation of artists such as Maria Somerville and Yu Su, and this new album further reinforces the idea that Seefeel's time has finally come. [Clear vinyl pressing.]

Sugar - House of Dead Memories / Long Live Love 7" (BMG)

Formed in 1992 by Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü) alongside bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis, Sugar quickly made their mark with the acclaimed debut Copper Blue - hailed as one of the defining albums of the '90s for its fusion of sharp melodic hooks and raw guitar power. Follow-up releases Beaster and File Under: Easy Listening cemented the band's reputation before they disbanded in 1995. Now, 30 years on, Sugar have reformed with new live dates in 2026, including three nights at New York's Webster Hall and two at London's O2 Kentish Town Forum. To mark the occasion, they've unveiled 2 brand-new songs, "House of Dead Memories" and "Long Live Love," available as a limited edition 7" vinyl single.

Taj Mahal & the Phantom Blues Band - Time CD (Thirty Tigers)

When five-time Grammy award winner Taj Mahal intersects with The Phantom Blues Band, it's one of those rare joints that hits you before you even know you've been hit. Taj Mahal's fearless, open-hearted spirit still shadows the whole thing with that genre-hopping joy. He leads you down the road with a history lesson and the Phantoms carry it with honor to the Griot. Mahal sings and plays harp as he fronts an all-star lineup of legendary musicians with the three ringleaders for the Phantoms - Johnny Lee Schell, the soulful gunslinger with tone for days, Tony Braunagel keeps the whole ship steered straight and on time, every time, and Larry Fulcher, the anchor, the heartbeat, the quiet storm on bass. Additionally, Jon Cleary, with that unmistakable New Orleans piano swagger, Mick Weaver, a session master who's playing slides in with an undeniable velvet magic, and in the horn section, Joe Sublett on sax and Les Lovitt on trumpet bring the orchestration into the full view of this genre.

Weird Nightmare - Hoopla LP (Sub Pop)

The sophomore album from the solo project of Alex Edkins, also of noise rock group METZ. Hoopla mixes and matches influences ranging from psychedelic 1960s to the DIY 1990s and beyond in fun and exhilarating combinations, displaying Edkins' sophisticated musical mind. Bursting to life with hooks and earworms, Hoopla is that one tape that never gets ejected from the car stereo, but plays on repeat, soundtracking the summer. New musical textures such as piano, bells, and castanets fuse with Edkins' straightforward songwriting to give these tunes a shiny luster. It's like a beloved indie director leveling up to their first studio feature. If Weird Nightmare's debut was an underground crowd pleaser akin to Richard Linklater's Slacker, then Hoopla is Edkins's Dazed and Confused. Resplendent with sunny guitar pop, Hoopla was produced with just the right amount of fuzz and crunch.

Youbet - Youbet LP (Hardly Art)

On their new self-titled album as Youbet, longtime music educators Nick Llobet (he/they) and Micah Prussack (she/her) proudly act as both explorer and guide, sharing three-dimensional musical sculptures so confidently and esoterically their own that they couldn't have been released under any other name but Youbet. Both sharpened and expansive, Youbet grows from the confines of home recording and "bedroom pop" into something sturdier, louder, and unmistakably the band's own. The duo's vast influences - everything from The Beatles, Bernard Herrmann's dizzying Vertigo soundtrack, flamenco, Japanese noise-rockers Boris, and more - weave in and out as the band crafts their own musical language. Co-producers Katie Von Schleicher and Julian Fader round out the album, the former adding synth glisten and the latter a drum backbone hammered into place by Prussack's bass. Youbet demonstrates Llobet and Prussack's ability to weave beguiling musical and lyrical expression, pushing and pulling at the resulting mesh.

Young the Giant - Victory Garden CD/LP (Fearless Records)

Young the Giant is an American rock band from Irvine, California, known for their dynamic live performances and a sound that blends soaring vocals, intricate instrumentation, and introspective lyricism. The band is composed of Sameer Gadhia (lead vocals, Jacob Tilley (guitar), Eric Cannata (guitar), Payam Doostzadeh (bass), and Fransois Comtois (drums). Since their breakout in 2010 with the platinum-certified singles "My Body" and "Cough Syrup," Young the Giant have become one of alternative rock's defining voices, blending anthemic energy with deeply personal storytelling. Victory Garden is their sixth studio album. [Indie exclusive yellow vinyl pressing.]

Reissues, Comps, Live Recordings, Vault Excavations...

Alcest - Écailles de Lune LP (Prophecy)

Alcest took an audible step towards their black metal roots with their sophomore full-length "Écailles de Lune" ("Moon Scales") without losing any of the trademarks that had evolved on their debut album "Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde". The French post-black metal pioneers created a sound of lucent, dreamlike quality and otherworldly beauty that has equally defined them and been refined by them ever since. [Blue / black / white marble vinyl pressing.]

Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil 2xLP (Hopeless Records)

Bring Me the Horizon - That's the Spirit LP (Sony Legacy)

Lost and Found (2015) is a compilation album by the Buena Vista Social Club, released nearly two decades after their landmark 1997 debut. Features core members such as Ibrahim Ferrer, Compay Segundo, Omara Portuondo, Rubén González, and Eliades Ochoa. This new lacquer cut is pressed on 180g vinyl.

Various Artists - The Devil Wears Prada O.S.T. LP (Real Gone Music)

2006's The Devil Wears Prada remains one of the funniest and smartest comedies of this millennium. And the studio that made it, 20th Century Fox, knew it all along - they actually bought the film rights to Lauren Weisberger's novel before it was even published! Similarly, the soundtrack took the same, limitless expense account approach... what do you suppose they shelled out for the rights to Madonna's "Vogue," U2's "City of Blinding Lights," and Alanis Morisette's "Crazy?" The rest of the soundtrack is top shelf, or should we say haute couture, too, featuring indie-rock stalwarts Moby and Ray LaMontagne, funk/acid jazz legends Jamiroquai, and more dance-pop of the sort you'd be likely to hear while watching beautiful people slink down a catwalk. Now, for its 20th anniversary, and on the occasion (and exact street date) of the long-awaited sequel hitting the theaters, this LP release comes all dressed up with a blood-red stiletto heel cover and a full-color inner sleeve housing a "Devil vs. Angel" red with white swirl vinyl pressing!

Dio - Dream Evil LP (Rhino)

Featuring legendary vocalist Ronnie James Dio, bassist Jimmy Bain, drummer Vinny Appice, keyboard player Claude Schnell & guitarist Craig Goldy, Dio's classic fourth album was originally released in 1987. Recorded during her sold-out world tour, Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour (Live) is exclusively available on 100% recycled vinyl as a one-time-only pressing, uniquely colored with a lenticular insert.

Funkadelic - Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow CD/LP (Org Music)

The second album from funk innovators Funkadelic. Arriving in 1970 mere months after their trailblazing debut, the record saw the band honing their songcraft, while still allowing plenty of space for mind-bending exploratory jams. The album's origin story famously involved a single marathon session on LSD. It marked the official introduction of legendary keyboardist Bernie Worrell, and would go on to chart at No. 92 on Billboard's Pop chart. This edition restores the album's full sonic impact across multiple formats. All vinyl variants are all analog, mastered direct from tape to lathe by Dave Gardner at DSG Mastering, and come in gatefold jackets. [Blue vinyl pressing.]

Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders - GarciaLive Volume 22: September 25th, 1971 Lion's Share 2xCD (Round Records)

GarciaLive Volume 22 showcases almost every note of music played during the early & late shows at San Anselmo's cozy Lion's Share. While the evening's closing "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down" seemingly went unrecorded, and "Biloxi" suffers from tape degradation, the rest stands as a rare slice of transcendent two-guitar Garcia/Saunders alchemy. Listen comfortably with our promise that every effort was made to produce this release in a manner which honors the spirit of its creation.

Dexter Gordon - Dexter Calling LP (Blue Note)

Recorded in 1961, Dexter Gordon's second Blue Note album, Dexter Calling, solidified the tenor saxophonist's career rebirth with a joyous return to form. Dexter holds forth at the helm of a quartet with Kenny Drew, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones moving nimbly from hard-charging swing to stunning balladry. This stereo Blue Note Tone Poet Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180g vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe gatefold tip-on jacket.

Dedicated to originality, L'Orange stitches together a sound that acknowledges his penchant for classic film noir and shadowy motifs. L'Orange albums are often cinematic and narrative in structure, exemplifying the artist's highly conceptual creative process.

[Pink swirl vinyl pressing.]

Monster Magnet - Superjudge 2xLP (PIAS)

Originally released in 1993. A seismic blend of psychedelic swagger and heavy rock thunder, Superjudge captures Monster Magnet at their most primal and transcendent. With fuzz-drenched guitars, hypnotic grooves, and Dave Wyndorf's commanding vocals, this record defined the sound of '90s stoner rock. Presented as a 2LP black vinyl edition, Superjudge is a glorious, mind-expanding trip through cosmic distortion.

Monster Magnet - Dopes to Infinity 2xLP (PIAS)

Originally released in 1995. A masterpiece of space rock ambition, Dopes to Infinity saw Monster Magnet pushing their sound to cosmic extremes. Featuring the anthemic "Negasonic Teenage Warhead," this album blends power, melody, and hallucinatory atmosphere into pure sonic alchemy. This 2 LP black vinyl edition is a vital journey through the outer edges of rock.

Monster Magnet - God Says No 2xLP (PIAS)

Originally released in 2000. Dark, dynamic, and fiercely ambitious, God Says No showcased Monster Magnet refining their signature sound with cinematic power. Balancing heavy grooves and swirling psychedelia, it stands as one of the band's most textured and mature works. Presented as a 2LP black vinyl edition, this release captures a commanding chapter of their legacy.

Poison Idea - Record Collectors are STILL Pretentious Assholes LP (American Leather)

The classic Portland punk of Poison Idea still destroys. This sophomore release from the band captures a Poison Idea that's matured from the straight beatdown thrash of Pick Your King and is in the process of turning into the polished unit that would produce Kings of Punk, and it rules. This band deals out the goods with frenetic, hammering madness and rabid intensity thrash-style compositions. This reissue pairs the original eight tracks from the EP with five more from the "Drinking is Great" and "Cleanse the Bacteria" compilations, including a cover of the STOOGES "I Got a Right." [Purple vinyl pressing.]

Poison Idea - War All the Time LP (American Leather)

Poison Idea's momentum hasn't slowed down one bit; this is still their brand of loud, potent powerthrash. Slightly more metal than in the past but the accent here is on the force and fury. Each song on War All the Time flows into the next in a natural sequence for maximum impact and the whole thing blows over before you know it, but everything stays in your head, banging against the walls of your frontal bone. Jerry A took the negative side of the world around him and expressed it in detail, rendered with words that can be read in a universal manner, expressing everything trivial and worthy of our puke in a language better suited to talk about the beauty of life. [Green vinyl pressing.]

Saturdays at Your Place - Always Cloudy LP (Wax Bodega)

Blue and Clear A-Side/B-Side Vinyl. Always Cloudy is the band's fan-favorite 2023 EP, featuring their hit song, "tarot cards".

Sobs - Air Guitar CD (Topshelf)

Dedicated to the power of pop music, Sobs are Singapore's premier indie pop propagandists. A thirty-minute trip for the post-Internet consumer, Air Guitar calibrates inventive pop hooks for the indie rock lover, instantly accessible yet intricately arranged. The album draws a line through the history of pop stylistics from 80s new wave ("Last Resort") and 90s power-pop ("Burn Book") to 00s sk8er punk and radio pop ("Air Guitar"). Further informed by the cosmopolitan, culturally astute ethos of PC Music - Sobs connects the uptempo of Shibuya's Advantage Lucy ("Lucked Out"), heart-on-sleeve indie rock of Bettie Serveert and Big Star ("World Implode"), with the eclecticism of New York's Darla Records ("Friday Night") to define the pulse of indiepop then and now.

Various Artists - Soul Jazz Records Presents: Studio One Soul 2xLP (Soul Jazz)

More classic Reggae from Jamaica's most important label ever! Studio One Soul tracks the link between American Funk and Soul and Jamaican Reggae at the legendary Studio One Records. Curtis Mayfield, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, The Temptations, King Floyd, Booker T and The MGs - all these artists had a huge influence on Jamaican artists, and this collection contains versions of songs by all of them. Featuring classic and rare reggae, funk, and soul cuts from the reggae giants alongside rarer cuts, Studio One Soul spans over 20 years of classic reggae from the rocksteady funk through to the deep roots music.

Super Static Fever - Silent Dynamic Torture CD (Numero)

A band that played so loud their entire fan base went deaf and never spoke of them again. Formed in 1993 in the go-nowhere exurb of San Jose, California, Super Static Fever played only a handful of gigs in their brief two year existence, punishing spectators with a tinnitus-inducing wah-wah wall of Marshall-stacked distortion. Their sound was a mix of Melvins-esque sludge, Swervedriver's melodic crunch, and latter-day Black Flag's penchant for volume, as heard from the stock stereo of a hot-boxed 1985 Ford Econoline. Unfinished tapes from two ear-bleeding sessions are all that survived the ensuing 25 years since their indifferent break-up, mixed by the exacting Steve Albini as the band's one condition for reissue. The package reeks of the '90s computer-crippled D.I.Y. aesthetic, with VHS blur and opaque white screened on chipboard. A record that just barely does, and probably should not, exist.

Tacoma Radar - No One Waved Goodbye CD (Numero)

Amid the early 2000s Scottish music scene that birthed Camera Obscura, Arab Strap and Belle and Sebastian, Tacoma Radar were the quiet achievers. Their sole album, No One Waved Goodbye - a mesmerizing collection of hushed melancholy, is now hailed as a cult classic. Reissued for the first time, this CD features No One Waved Goodbye, both seven-inch singles, and the previously unreleased Live From the 13th Note.

McCoy Tyner - Asante LP (Blue Note)

McCoy Tyner had been increasingly looking to Africa for inspiration on his Blue Note records of the late-60s. With 1970's Asante he brought those influences to the fore with the swirling percussive rhythmic bed of Billy Hart and Mtume, along with Buster Williams, Ted Dunbar, Andrew White and the vocals of Songai. This stereo Blue Note Tone Poet Edition was produced by Joe Harley, mastered by Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI, and packaged in a deluxe tip-on jacket.

UFO - The Wild, the Willing & the Innocent 2xCD/3xLP (Chrysalis)

Continuing the acclaimed series of UFO reissues, The Wild, The Willing & The Innocent returns in a stunning 2026 remastered deluxe edition. Originally released in 1981, this pivotal album captures the band at a creative high point, blending soaring melodies, powerful performances, and Phil Mogg's unmistakable voice. Newly remastered from the original tape transfers, the album now sounds more dynamic and detailed than ever, reaffirming its place as one of UFO's most accomplished works. This deluxe edition also includes a brand-new mix of the previously unreleased Live at the Hammersmith Odeon, recorded on 29th January 1981, by Brian Kehew, offering an electrifying snapshot of UFO's energy on stage.

The Wedding Present - Seamonsters LP (Sony)

Marbled color vinyl pressing of the English indie rock / noise pop band's third album, originally released in 1991.

Will Orman
