Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Bilmuri - Kinda Hard CD/LP (Columbia)

The Columbus, OH singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer a.k.a. Johnny Franck stirs up the musical equivalent of a protein shake, blending a hearty helping of alternative rock, the right amount of metal, a dash of country twang, and whatever-else-is-in-the fridge at high speed. This 13-track album executive produced by John Franck and Jameson Roper features previously released singles "MORE THAN HATE" and "HARD2TELL." [Indie exclusive mustard / clear vinyl pressing.]

Wendy Eisenberg - Wendy Eisenberg CD/LP (Joyful Noise)

Wendy Eisenberg has spent the past decade as a fixture of independent music and an artist of inspired multiplicity. As a singer-songwriter, improviser, and virtuoso guitarist, the coordinates of their artistry are ever-shifting, from art-rock to jazz to blistering free improv and eloquent folk. The poetic and formally daring folksongs of Wendy Eisenberg comprise their most certain vision yet. "The songs are genuinely folk songs, " Eisenberg says of their record. "The production is less about seeing what the guitar might be capable of and more accepting the inherent strangeness of the languages it has spoken for the last century and a half." On Wendy Eisenberg, the artist creates their own paradigm with a tight-knit circle of longtime friends and collaborators-including bassist Trevor Dunn, drummer Ryan Sawyer, and co-producer Mari Rubio (more eaze), who handled pedal steel, synth, and string arrangements - recording often at Eisenberg's home and bringing a gorgeous ensemble texture to each note.

Goon - Death Spells / Atrium 7" (Born Losers)

This release includes 2 B Sides from Goon's critically acclaimed Dream 3 LP available on 7" vinyl for the first time. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Kenny Becker says: "The track 'Atrium' was born during the Dream 3 sessions, on a day where it was just Claire and I in the studio. It wasn't rehearsed at all before we started recording it. All I really had was the main guitar riff in drop D, inspired by the Rob Crow stylings of Heavy Vegetable and Thingy. The lyrics came quickly and received almost no editing. They circled around feelings of resentment, heartbreak and the idea that a sturdy love for oneself is necessary before you can truly love others."

Jack Harlow - Monica LP (Atlantic)

Recently released on CD, now available on vinyl. Harlow's fourth album and follow-up to 2023's Jackman finds him moving away from his pop rap beginnings and toward a sound rooted in contemporary R&B.

Holly Humberstone - Cruel World CD/LP (Interscope Records)

Holly Humberstone returns with her highly anticipated second album, Cruel World. One of the defining voices of her generation, Holly delivers a record that lives in the tension between pain and pleasure, where chaos and acceptance sit side by side. On Cruel World, she escapes into a dark fairytale of her own making, where childhood relics, monsters and memory collide, resulting in her most immersive, introspective and compelling body of work to date. [Indie exclusive pearl white color vinyl pressing.]

Immolation - Descent LP (Nuclear Blast)

One of the original vanguards of death metal is back! 38 years into their storied career, Immolation returns with their 12th album, Descent. Once again, long-time fans and unsuspecting newcomers will be confronted with hymns of darkness and fury, invoked by one of the most respected names in the genre. Mixed and mastered by long-time collaborator Zack Ohren, Descent offers muscular production that captures the band in its most fiery and brooding moments alike. [Limited red, yellow, and black marbled vinyl pressing.]

Joe Jackson - Hope and Fury CD/LP (Earmusic)

The new studio album from Grammy-winning artist Joe Jackson, written and recorded between Berlin and New York City. The album features nine new songs performed with Jackson’s longtime band – Graham Maby (bass), Teddy Kumpel (guitar), Doug Yowell (drums) – and Peruvian percussionist Paulo Stagnaro. Produced by Joe Jackson with Patrick Dillett, Hope and Fury marks a return to what Jackson calls his “own mainstream”: sophisticated pop songs drawing from rock, jazz, funk, and Latin influences – or, in his words, “Bicoastal LatinJazzFunkRock.”

Wesley Joseph - Forever Ends Someday CD/LP (Secretly Canadian)

Unguarded, wholly realised and entirely his own - Wesley Joseph's long-awaited debut album sees the singer, songwriter, producer and director at his most confidently vulnerable, expressing the many layers of his creative life journey. The result is 'Forever Ends Someday': 13 tracks of self-examination cut with expansive escapism. Features collaborations with Danny Brown and Jorja Smith, as well as production from Nicolas Jaar, Harvey Dweller (Joy Crookes), and Romil Hemnani (Brockhampton), among others.

Kangding Ray - SIRĀT O.S.T. LP (Invada)

The official soundtrack to SIRĀT, written and produced by David Letellier aka Kangding Ray. Set deep in the wild terrain of southern Morocco, SIRĀT is a visceral, atmospheric odyssey following a father (Sergi López) and son as they search for their missing daughter and sister. Their journey leads them through the throbbing heart of a nomadic rave scene where music becomes both guide and ghost - a haunting pulse that drives the narrative into the desert's burning isolation. At the film's core is its mesmerizing original soundtrack, a fusion of electronic minimalism and grainy sonic textures that underscore the film's themes of disappearance, connection, and liberation through sound.

Ella Langley - Dandelion CD/2xLP (Columbia)

The highly anticipated sophomore album from the country artist. Co-produced by Ella, Miranda Lambert and Ben West, this 18-track album, which features her #5 Billboard Hot 100 hit "Choosin' Texas," is one about growth, and carries a deeper symbolism of hope, healing, and resilience. In Ella's own words: "I've thought about this record every single day for the last year and a half, and I'm so excited to finally say: 'Welcome to Dandelion.'" [Puffball white vinyl pressing.]

Les Imprimés - Fading Forward LP (Big Crown)

The sophomore full-length from the group spearheaded by self taught multi-instrumentalist and producer Morten Martens. Martens made a tremendous impression with his highly acclaimed 2023 debut Rêverie and has since cultivated a diehard fanbase whose demographics are as wide-ranging as the influences that shape his music. He mixes tones from '60s and '70s soul with arrangement nods to doo-wop records, takes drum energy from hip-hop, and covers the whole thing with vocal stylings from '90s & 2000s alternative. There's also an infectiousness and pop sensibility in the writing that is executed with utmost class and taste, giving Les Imprimés the rare quality of immediate attraction that only deepens the more you listen. [Indie exclusive clear vinyl pressing.]

The Maine - Joy Next Door LP (Photo Finish Records)

The 10th studio album from the pop rock group. [Green and white split color vinyl pressing.]

Mamas Gun - DIG! CD (Blue Elan Records)

DIG! Is the 6th studio album by UK 5-piece band Mamas Gun, a rare creative brotherhood of passionate musicians making soul music that sounds and feels timeless. Recorded by engineer Neil Innes straight to 16-track analogue tape at All Things Analogue Studios in Leeds, the album captures the sound of five musicians at the very top of their game, coming together to bring 11 lovingly crafted songs to life. The result is intimate performances that put you in the room with the band as the music unfolds.

Massacre - Rot in Acid 7" (GDS)

Massacre are the pioneers of American death metal, formed in Orlando/Florida in 1984, known for influential early works like the legendary 'From Beyond´ album. This 7 inch picture disc contains 2 new songs, featuring special guest Martin Schirenc from the Austrian band PUNGENT STENCH.

Melvins with Napalm Death - Savage Imperial Death March CD/LP (Ipecac)

After two co-headling tours over the past decade, (the) Melvins are continuing their long tradition with us of teaming up with another band on an album. Next up- Napalm Death! This isn't just some split release with the bands each getting a side. Savage Imperial Death March is a full collab with both Melvins & Napalm Death playing together on all 8 tracks. [Obnoxious Orchid vinyl pressing.]

My New Band Believe - My New Band Believe CD/LP/LP+10" (Rough Trade)

As the bassist and sometime frontman of black midi, Cameron Picton and his bandmates practiced an explosive form of musical world-building, weaving complex storytelling through thrilling passages of controlled chaos. The self-titled debut album from Picton's new group is a massive and hallucinatory record, a collection of music that swerves through wildly different emotional and thematic registers, all the while unraveling an endlessly compelling thread of dream logic. The record is almost entirely acoustic, using the barest amount of reverb and electronic effects possible, without being any less maximal than a Black Midi album. Inspired by Bert Jansch's hypnotic, hard-driving guitar and Judee Sill's panoramic pop, My New Band Believe is both all-encompassing and constantly in flux. [Indie exclusive oxblood pressing with bonus 10" featuring "Numerology" and its instrumental version.]

Parlor Greens - Emeralds CD/LP (Colemine)

Emeralds, the sophomore long player from Parlor Greens, finds the trio serving up a beautifully curated sampler of what funky organ music can be. Three true masters of their respective crafts: Tim Carman (formerly of GA-20) on drums, Jimmy James (True Loves, formerly of Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio) on guitar, and Adam Scone (Scone Cash Players, The Sugarman 3) on organ. Seasoned and soulful pros coming together to make infectiously funky instrumental jams. [Gold color vinyl pressing.]

Squarepusher - Kammerkonzert CD/2xLP (Warp)

Tom Jenkinson, aka Squarepusher, presents a riot of onyx-hard, hyperfast riffs, fiendish orchestral themes, and handbrake turns through varieties of progressive, ambient, electronic and experimental music. The singular producer, experimental musician and creator of futuristic forms of fusion, has a three-decade-long back catalogue studded with a variety of jewel-like records. From the furious breakbeat acid and pulverising live bass guitar attack of Feed Me Weird Things (1996) to the literal and self-explanatory Music For Robots (2014) via the virtuosic live showcase of Solo Electric Bass 1 (2009) and the otherworldly concrète jazz of Ultravisitor (2004) few contemporary musicians have covered as much ground in as sure-footed a manner. His three decade output is only typified by two things: unpredictability and rule breaking. Given that his new album is essentially a chamber concerto with Jenkinson himself playing all of the parts, it's safe to say he has come a long way since his crystalline drum & bass debut for Warp in 1996, Port Rhombus EP. Twenty-one albums in, Kammerkonzert is the start of a new era for Squarepusher as a composer.

Thee Sacred Souls - Any Old Fool b/ w Price I'll Pay 7" (Penrose)

"Any Old Fool," the previously unreleased track from the stewards of sweet soul is a dancefloor friendly proclamation of love, whose funky guitars, raw bassline and hard hitting drums provide the perfect groove and vibe for Josh Lane's smooth vocal swagger. One of the standout tracks on their sophomore LP Got a Story to Tell, "Price I'll Pay," is a moody, mip-tempo banger about the price one is willing to pay for the love that they crave.

Mark Turner - Patternmaster LP (ECM)

In his review of Mark Turner's last quartet effort for ECM, 2022's Return From The Stars, the Swiss daily Weltwoche's Peter Ruedi described the program as "the leanest, most concentrated, and most inspired improvised chamber music imaginable." It's a fitting description of the tenor saxophonist's powerful quartet endeavors, which seem to have arrived at their most sophisticated and hard-hitting on Patternmaster, an album that in many respects feels like a continuation and expansion of the group's last recording. Both boundless improvisation and cool control are driving motors behind a quartet that has molded it's common musical understanding over years on the road and in the studio. "The more you trust, the more chances you can take and the deeper you can go with people," says the leader, who feels that within this group's chemistry he can go "beyond craft and gage into the art of music more in depth."

Cory Wong - Lost in the Wonder CD (Diggers Factory)

Guitarist Cory Wong's latest album spotlights his remarkable gifts as a producer, writer, arranger, band leader, and master of modern pop craftsmanship, while of course never losing sight of his trademark guitar virtuosity. Lost in the Wonder further affirms Wong's enduring love of musical collaboration, boasting a truly eclectic range of guest artists that includes Taylor Hanson, Devon Gilfillian, Stephen Day, Cody Fry, Yam Haus, Louis Cato, Ellis, Elysia Biro, Benny Sings, Theo Katzman, and Magic City Hippies.

Dagmar Zuniga - in filth your mystery is kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music CD/LP/cassette (AD 93)

Dagmar Zuniga makes music that feels both intimate and expansive: songs drift like disrupted signals, carried by harmony, tape hiss, and a strong sense of touch. Her debut solo album in filth your mystery is kingdom / far smile peasant in yellow music — written and recorded in New York, Norway, and Athens, Georgia over a period of five years on her longtime companion, the Tascam 424 — was uploaded to Bandcamp and YouTube in January 2025 through Dagmar’s friends People's Coalition of Tandy. The project quickly garnering over two hundred thousand views and the attention of artists such as Mount Eerie, who invited her to tour with them that summer. This year, what was once a jewel of tapped-in algorithms and message boards will meet the world at large.

Reissues, Comps, Live Recordings, Vault Excavations...

AJR - Live From The Hollywood Bowl 2xLP (BMG)

AJR's explosive performance at the legendary Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on October 4, 2025 has been immortalized in the form of the band's first-ever live album! The tracklist features all the band's biggest hits, from "Bang!" to "Burn The House Down" to "Weak" to "Way Less Sad" to "World's Smallest Violin" and so much more. ["Translucent Galaxy" pink and white marbled vinyl pressing.]

The Band - High on the Hog CD/2xLP (BFD)

30th anniversary reissue. From its first driving percussive beats and fuzzy guitar riffs, High on the Hog soars. More than two years after Jericho, the group's impressive comeback album, the Band still sounds gorgeously funky and unlike any other - even with the loss of key members, Robbie Robertson and Richard Manuel. Now Levon Helm, Rick Danko and Garth Hudson wear the royal mantle, and here they make music with cohesiveness and assurance that come only with maturity. [Indie exclusive coke bottle green vinyl pressing.]

The Band - Jericho CD (BFD)

Jericho (originally released in 1993) is The Band's comeback and reunion album, marking their first studio album since Islands (1977) and their first since reforming without Robbie Robertson in 1983. Returning from the original lineup were Levon Helm (drums, mandolin and vocals), Rick Danko (bass, guitar and vocals), and Garth Hudson (organ, keyboards and horns), while pianist and vocalist Richard Manuel, who died in 1986, posthumously appears on one track. New to the group were drummer Randy Ciarlante, keyboardist Richard Bell, and guitarist Jim Weider. The album also included contributions from outside songwriters and featured covers of artists like Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Muddy Waters.

Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs (20th Anniversary) 3xLP (Wegawam)

In 2005, Andrew Bird was a previously unimaginable combination of virtuoso violinist, singer-songwriter, guitarist, and whistler. With that year's album The Mysterious Production of Eggs, his second on Righteous Babe Records, Bird minted a new sound that continues to be imitated and set down classic songs that still anchor many a live performance. The expanded 3 LP boxset edition of this classic record includes the original album, alongside two LPs of never before released material, on black vinyl. On one LP, a one-to-one playthrough of the album but of demos, rare alternate versions and favorite live performances. The third LP includes never released rarities on Side A, and a selection of songs from the original album performed by Andrew with the Nu Deco Ensemble. Housed in a custom made box, the boxset features re-imagined and brand new artwork from longtime collaborator, Jay Ryan.

Bullet for My Valentine - Bullet for My Valentine CD/LP (Sony Legacy)

Bullet for My Valentine's debut era began with this explosive EP, setting the stage for their breakthrough album The Poison, which quickly established the band as leaders of modern British metal. Now the EP returns as a standalone release, giving both longtime fans and new collectors the chance to own the recording that sparked Bullet for My Valentine's legacy. [Oxblood colored vinyl pressing.]

Bobby Charles - Bearsville Studio Sessions LP (Bearsville)

Bobby Charles was a Louisiana-born singer-songwriter known for swamp pop hits like "See You Later, Alligator" and "Walking to New Orleans." Bobby Charles rarities collection includes material recorded during the sessions for his self-titled debut album on Bearsville and includes contributions from members of The Band, as well as Dr. John, Ben Keith and David Sanborn.

John Coltrane - My Favorite Things LP (Atlantic)

Coltrane's classic Atlantic album from 1961 gets the Rhino Reserve treatment. This is his first recorded use of the soprano sax which he would go on to play extensively until the end. The modal exploration of the title track is something he would return to in live performances for the rest of his career. Cut by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab and pressed on 180g black vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing.

The Damned - Damned Damned Damned CD (BMG)

Damned Damned Damned is the debut studio album by The Damned, the first UK punk band to release a single ('New Rose', included here, in October 1976). The album was released on February 18, 1977 by the ground-breaking and irreverent Stiff label. Produced by Nick Lowe, Damned Damned Damned is also the first full length album released by a UK punk group. Pretty much a stone classic and a much lauded punk masterpiece, this is a record driven by power chords, speed and a trashy attitude which belies the quality of the songs, which are uniformly excellent.

Danzig - Danzig LP (American Recordings)
Danzig - Danzig II: Lucifuge LP (American Recordings)
Danzig - Danzig III: How The Gods Kill LP (American Recordings)
Danzig - Danzig 4 LP (American Recordings)

Vinyl reissues of the hard rock / heavy metal band's first four albums.

Miles Davis & Quincy Jones - Live at Montreux LP (Rhino)

Recorded live at the 25th Anniversary of the Montreux Jazz Festival on July 8, 1991.

Drunk - Derby Spiritual LP (Jagjaguwar)

A revisit to Drunk’s 1996 debut ‘A Derby Spiritual’ will reveal to the listener a record more charming, gentle and — dare I say — colorful than its stoic, 90s slow-core reputation might insist. The Richmond band sound careful, creaky and lean to be sure. But the decades have allowed this old sad bastard a warming amber glow. The black hole radio play at the end of the stunning opener “Collarbone” seems to predict the coming of ‘Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.’ And here in the curious present, strummers like “Germany Skies," “Gideon’s Trumpet” and “Gizmo" could be slotted in right alongside the indie-country boom of today.

Duran Duran - Duran Duran (The Wedding Album) CD (Rhino)

"Duran Duran" aka "The Wedding Album" released in 1993 was a return to form for the band, charting in the top10 on both the UK and US album charts and spawning the world-wide hits 'Ordinary World' and 'Come Undone'.

Duran Duran - Thank You CD/2xLP (Rhino)

An album of covers featuring songs written by Led Zeppelin, Bob Dylan, The Doors, Lou Reed and Elvis Costello. The album charted in the top 20 of both UK and US charts. Originally squeezed onto 1LP, "Thank You" is highly sought after as neither have been re-pressed on vinyl since its original release. It is now spread across 140g 2LPs for the best sound.

Various Artists - Eccentric Sweet Soul LP (Numero)

What is Sweet Soul? Maybe the sweet spot between lowrider and symphonic soul? Sweet soul is the predecessor to what we now call modern soul. It came into its own in the late '60s and '70s, alongside (but apart from) the grittier, funk-driven soul dominating the airwaves. Where that music pushed hard rhythms and raw emotion, sweet soul softened the edges. It favored melody, warmth, and polish, giving it a calm, lush feel that made it easy to return to, and easy to love, even de- cades later. [Peach color vinyl pressing.]

Bryan Ferry and His Orchestra - The Jazz Age CD/LP (BMG)

Step into a world where classic art-pop meets the roaring 1920s. The Jazz Age reimagines Bryan Ferry's Roxy Music and solo catalog as elegant jazz instrumentals, presented by the Bryan Ferry Orchestra. From "Virginia Plain" and "Do the Strand" to "Love Is the Drug" and "Avalon," each track is transformed through authentic 1920s-style arrangements featuring banjo, clarinet, muted trumpet, baritone sax, and double bass, crafted by renowned arranger Colin Good. Top UK jazz players, including trumpeter Enrico Tomasso and saxophonist Alan Barnes, bring these timeless melodies to life, while mono-style production evokes the charm of vintage 78 RPM recordings. Ferry himself steps back from vocals to serve as conductor and producer, curating this inventive project born from his love of jazz and curiosity about how his songs would stand without singing. [Green vinyl pressing.]

Bryan Ferry and His Orchestra - Bitter-Sweet CD/LP (BMG)

Drawing inspiration from the shadowy cabarets and smoky jazz halls of late-1920s Weimar Berlin, Bitter-Sweet sees Bryan Ferry and His Orchestra reimagining his solo and Roxy Music catalogue with a sophisticated jazz sensibility. The album features elegant horn and woodwind arrangements, muted trumpet, clarinet flourishes, and a mood of urbane melancholy, transforming classics like "Alphaville," "Reason or Rhyme," and "While My Heart Is Still Beating." Ferry himself provides select vocals on eight tracks, while the remaining songs unfold as instrumental reinterpretations, arranged with the expertise of Colin Good and performed by a full ensemble of seasoned jazz musicians. The album's concept grew from Ferry's work as music consultant on the acclaimed German TV series Babylon Berlin, where several tracks were originally featured, blending cinematic drama with jazz authenticity. [Red vinyl pressing.]

Flume - Skin 2xLP (Mom & Pop)

The Grammy-winning second studio album from Australian electronic musician Flume. Skin is Flume's second full-length release following his self-titled debut in 2012. Featuring guest appearances from Kai, Vic Mensa, Tove Lo, Vince Staples, Allan Kingdom, Raekwon, Little Dragon, AlunaGeorge, MNDR, and Beck. [Pink vinyl pressing.]

Hindu Love Gods - Hindu Love Gods LP (Rhino)

Released in 1990, Hindu Love Gods is a collaboration between Warren Zevon and R.E.M. members, featuring blues and rock covers. Their version of Prince's "Raspberry Beret" reached the Billboard Hot 100. The album earned a cult following for its unpolished, spontaneous feel, blending Zevon's style with R.E.M.'s sound.

John Lee Hooker - That's My Story LP (Craft Recordings)

That's My Story is the 1960 album from the blues icon, John Lee Hooker, originally released on Riverside Records. The album features a raw, stripped-down approach for a country blues sound. Hooker plays acoustic guitar on tracks like "I Need Some Money" and "No More Doggin'" to create a compelling collection that expertly showcases his mastery. This edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP and features (AAA) remastered from the original tapes cut by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab.

Hot Mulligan - Why Would I Watch LP (Wax Bodega)

New pressing of the pop-punk band's 2023 album, featuring hit songs Shhh! Golf Is On and No Shoes in the Coffeeshop (Or Socks). Since forming in Lansing, Michigan, in 2014, the college friends - vocalist Tades Sanville, guitarists Chris Freeman and Ryan Malicsi and drummer Brandon Blakeley - have ascended from basements to buzz band on the back of two beloved albums, 2018's Pilot and 2020's you'll be fine. The band's third LP, Why Would I Watch, cemented their evolution as one the most versatile and profoundly moving bands in the underground. [Copper ruby vinyl pressing.]

Ice-T - Power Rarities LP (Rhino)

A collection of rarities from Ice-T’s 1998 platinum selling sophomore album, Power. Includes rare remixes and instrumentals of popular tracks like "High Rollers" and "I'm Your Pusher".

Imagine Dragons - Smoke + Mirrors 2xLP (Interscope)

Super deluxe double vinyl LP pressing featuring eight bonus tracks including "Monster", "Battle Cry" and "Warriors". 2015 release from Imagine Dragons. Written and produced by Imagine Dragons (with additional production by Alex da Kid), Smoke + Mirrors uses the frenetic energy of life on the road to infuse their music with both raw tension and intense vulnerability. As on their platinum selling debut, Night Visions, the band works with sharply crafted beats and grooves to dream up rhythm-driven rock music that's artful yet visceral.

Laufey - A Matter of Time: The Final Hour CD/2xLP (Laufey)

This remastered reissue is pressed on 180-gram vinyl, with (AAA) lacquers cut from the original master tapes for an exceptional listening experience.

Lightnin' Hopkins - Blues in My Bottle LP (Craft Recordings)

The album contains Hopkins' performances of originals, traditional standards, and renditions of covers. This edition is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at QRP and features (AAA) remastered from the original tapes cut by Matthew Lutthans at The Mastering Lab.

Rachel Love - Lyra LP (Slumberland)
Rachel Love - Picture in Mind LP (Slumberland)

Reissues of the English singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist's 2021 and 2024 albums. Rachel Love began her musical career in the late 70s with the legendary Dolly Mixture, a group of three teenage friends who subverted pretty much every rock cliche imaginable with their bright, energetic DIY pop music and created the template for countless non-dude bands since. No one used the words post-punk or indie pop back then, but Dolly Mixture are in the DNA of both. Post Dolly Mixture, Rachel kept busy writing and playing music in various groups, leading in 2021 to "Picture In Mind," an elegantly pastoral sunshine/folk/indie pop album co-produced with her late husband Steve Lovell. Rachel's 2024 album "Lyra" was written and recorded as she processed Steve's passing, joined by her sons David and Syd as players, with David also co-producing. Musically "Lyra" is very much of a piece with "Picture In Mind," surveying intimate folk-tinged pop, elegant atmospheres and gentle melodicism that perfectly complements the stately, sorrowful tunes. Songs like "Without You," "Fly Me Away" and "April Love" are beautifully-effecting chamber pop, lush and dreamy odes to love, loss and family.

Mickey & the Soul Generation - Give Everybody Some LP (Numero)

Hard Texas funk from the celebrated San Antonio scene. As Abe Epstein was tracking West Side brown-eyed soul groups on General Mc- Mullen Blvd., Mickey Foster and his biracial Soul Generation band were answering James Brown's call to get on the good foot just south of the River Walk. Collected here are a dozen of their swaggiest and crook-legged instrumentals, a mood building survey of the band's 1969- '77 run, including the paper hit knee-wobbler "Iron Leg." Chop up your next sample here. [Silver color vinyl pressing.]

Orange - The Sun / Wait Until Sunrise 7" (Ancient Grease)

Antwerp based group Orange recorded "The Sun" in 1969, showcasing a blend of psychedelic and melodic rock-a dark, brooding masterpiece that has since earned cult status. RIYL: Led Zeppelin, May Blitz, Morly Grey, etc.

Robber Robber - Wild Guess CD (Fire Talk)

Now available on CD. Robber Robber’s debut album feels more like an exercise in tension and release than an indie record. For all of its nods to its post-punk predecessors and the eclectic Burlington, VT music scene that fed into it, the album feels more like an attempt to translate imagery into sound, communicating all the shades of light and dark you could visualize – and it’s better for that reason. Everything is driven by sheer curiosity and loose, if any, creative parameters, the band says. A person’s twenties is guaranteed to be a tumultuous time in their life anyway, regardless of who they are or what they do, but the members of Robber Robber found themselves in a world that’s maybe never been more chaotic or difficult to move through. It’s a chaos that’s evident in what they create, even if it’s only the obstacle they’re reacting to. [Robber Robber's latest album, Two Wheels Move the Soul, will be out physically next week, 4/17.]

Scritti Politti - Songs to Remember CD/LP (Rough Trade)

The debut album of one of Britain's most acclaimed and influential bands, Songs to Remember takes us back to the beginnings of Scritti Politti. Having emerged out of the DIY Camden bedsit scene of the late 70s, yet with a musical vision to match the likes of Miles Davis (who they later worked with), the Green Gartside-led group established themselves as one of the early 80s' true innovators as Songs To Remember channeled both the fiery politics of the era with a burgeoning pop sensibility. Described as "witty and ingenious" by NME on its release in 1982, Songs to Remember has been fully remastered for this long overdue vinyl repressing, which has been personally overseen by Gartside himself.

Tash Sultana - Notion LP (Mom & Pop)

10th anniversary of the breakout EP. Tash Sultana exploded on the scene, a young dynamic Melbourne artist. At just 21 years of age, her unique sound created waves with her magical vocals, natural gift for melody and virtuosic guitar playing. Tash's carefully crafted, edgy, multi-instrumental pieces feature beatboxing, unique guitar work and percussion-styled finger tapping that continue to leave fans and critics in awe. The release features the breakout singles "Jungle" and "Notion" and comes in the original packaging including fold out poster. [Silver color vinyl pressing.]

Will Orman
