Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Bodega - All Inside Aquarium CD/LP (Chrysalis)

Bodega's new album sees the band expanding far beyond their minimalist post-punk origins towards soaring anthemic rock. The group's goal was, "Let's go back to melodic tunes, let's be more of a proper rock band," Hozie explains. Sonically, the band aimed for "this late '80's/early 90's Stone Roses-meets-Janes Addiction thing, with more riffing and guitar solos." Where the band's earlier material took a more explicitly sociopolitical bent, Hozie and Belfilgio's writing on 'All Inside Aquarium' is deliberately more concerned with the personal, poetics, and play. [Indie exclusive green vinyl pressing.]

Chloé Caillet - Dance Again 12" (Ninja Tune)

NYC and Ibiza-based DJ, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Chloé Caillet has quickly become one of dance music's most vital new voices. Known for kaleidoscopic DJ sets that recall the Balearic bliss of the '90s and a time before smartphones mediated the clubbing experience, Caillet has built a devoted global following through performances at places like Coachella, the Vanity Fair Oscars after party, and Ibiza's legendary Circoloco, alongside her queer-centered event series and label, SMIILE. Following the release of her debut EP Here To Make You Smile in 2024, Caillet now makes her Ninja Tune debut with Dance Again, a project she describes as "a culmination of years of DJing and production," rooted in New York club culture and infused with an '80s and new-wave sensibility.

Alex Cameron - Late to Set LP (Diggers Factory)

In January 2025 Alex Cameron exploded his life in a controlled detonation largely ignored by the universe. The charred remains of Cameron's life fragmented and reassembled into 9 synthetic rock songs detailing his world's deep confusion and regret. He continues to find pieces of his own reflection in the shattered characters he creates and embodies. The promised Messiah. Agamemnon's appetite for war. Mel Gibson's ransom note. Humanity's Pro-War destiny. A cold war breakup. These are songs of protest against life itself. This is the world our fathers feared and here is its soundtrack.

Jeremiah Chiu - Edge Conditions CD/LP (International Anthem)

The new album by Chicago born and raised, longtime Los Angeles-based composer, synthesist, and multi-media artist Jeremiah Chiu. Following three electro-acoustic duo albums with violist Marta Sofia Honer (one in collaboration with late legend of minimalist music Ariel Kalma) and three heavily-fused trance-jazz LPs with his co-led quintet SML, 'Edge Conditions' settles Chiu into a world of densely layered, tightly composed electronic music deviations in the vein of the YMO spinoffs, Arthur Russell 12-inch mixes, Yasuaki Shimizu, classic Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, or Art of Noise. Outsider deconstructions spun through the dance/chill cycle and lovingly rebuilt on California land.

Death Valley Girls - Welcome to Earth CD/LP (Suicide Squeeze)

The road to Death Valley Girls' Welcome to Earth begins in the ashes of California's Eaton Fire. After losing her home in Altadena and soon after her beloved dog Tommy, lead singer and songwriter Bonnie Bloomgarden confronted questions that resisted easy answers: What remains after loss? How do you rebuild a life when the things that once defined it are gone? This album focuses less on escaping the world and more on understanding how to remain connected after devastation. But for all its weighty questions, Welcome to Earth is remarkably joyful. Musically, the album remains unmistakably Death Valley Girls: exuberant, melodic, curious, and gloriously open-hearted. Girl-group harmonies drift through hazy psychedelic passages; voices gather into communal chants; choruses arrive with the buoyancy of a collective sing-along.

Four Tet - Text059 / Wingdings LP (Text)

Limited edition vinyl pressing of the new album from Four Tet aka Kieran Hebden under his 'wingdings' alias.

Gayance - Romance LP (Tru Thoughts)

Following her Polaris-shortlisted debut, Montreal-born, Lisbon-based powerhouse Gayance returns with roaming on Tru Thoughts. A "sonic travelogue" spanning Haitian roots, London's broken beat, and Brazil's rhythmic heat, this album is a masterclass in diasporic storytelling. Bridging high-octane 90s House with intimate boogie French lyricism and spiritual resistance, roaming maps a decade of transit and radical self-preservation. It is a defiant, celebratory reclamation of agency from a vital architect of the global electronic soundscape. Featuring collaborations with Judith Little D, Waahli, Magi Merlin, NARCY and De. Ville.

Goblin Cock - Traumanaut CD/LP (Joyful Noise)

Traumanaut is the fifth full-length and first record in over seven years from Goblin Cock, Rob Crow’s (Pinback, Heavy Vegetable) beloved cult metal project. "Goblin Cock's frontman, Lord Phallus, is a becloaked non-presence in a band of similarly vague personas, purposefully nebulous, but whereas their many imitators use this as an excuse to deepen some bankable lore, the members of Goblin Cock truly wish to be ignored. Traumanaut is the project's newest LP and sounds like a breath of unexpectedly fresh air, especially from such a quagmire of neurosis as this guy. At times so personal sounding that any normal songwriter might go to ridiculous lengths to distance themselves from its honesty." [Purple & pink vinyl pressing.]

Greta Van Fleet - Palace for the People CD/2xLP (Lava)

The fourth studio album from the hard rockers. Limited edition "Origin" vinyl pressing with celestite marble finish.

GRUB - GRUB LP (Wing Sing Records)

GRUB's self-titled debut album is a 9-track dive into the beautiful mess of being human. Backed by a powerhouse lineup of WA heavyweights, Matilda Beales' songwriting is darkly funny, brutally honest, and utterly unapologetic, tackling everything from sobriety to purging hard feelings wrapped in B-grade horror imagery. Shifting from frantic garage-punk to infectious dark-disco, the record blends gritty rock energy with visceral beauty, presenting a striking introduction to a band refusing to be boxed in.

Marina Herlop - Dja Dja CD/LP (Marina Herlop)

Self-released new album from the Spanish art pop/electronic composer. Conceived as a single, unbroken body of work in which every track answers to the others, Dja Dja is the most architecturally ambitious thing Herlop has made, a giant sudoku built out of smaller sudokus, where the whole had to cohere even as each piece kept its own internal logic. Across these movements the Catalan composer -- classically trained, equally at home in the avant-garde -- sets herself a double standard she refused to relax: more open and intelligible than her earlier records, yet venturing onto ground she had never walked before. For the first time she lets orchestral brass into her palette, scored not by formal training but by intuition, feeling her way toward timbres that conjure whole worlds without ever tipping into excess. Almost everything was made by hand, at home, in a process that could take exactly as long as the music demanded.

Hour - Ghost Bridge CD/LP (Dear Life Records)

Ghost Bridge forms a contrast with Hour's art-rock-informed, more improvisatory early releases, representing a step further into intricate chamber orchestration. Known for his work with Friendship, Wendy Eisenberg, and 2nd Grade, Philly-based multi-instrumentalist and Dear Life Records founder Cormier-O'Leary has made Hour a home for increasingly cinematic instrumental compositions since the mid-2010s. With dazzling production by Lucas Knapp, Ghost Bridge delivers plenty of the live ensemble's trademarks, especially cyclically developing guitar and keyboard melodies. These emotionally multifaceted compositions feel as rooted in contemporary classical and film soundtrack music as in indie rock.

Imperial Teen - All Over You CD/LP (Merge Records)

The seventh studio album from the power pop band and their first since 2019. Featuring the band’s most expansive, textured palette to date, All Over You blends bubblegum music and boy/girl harmonies, electro beats and grungy distortion, power pop mall anthems and kiss-off lyricism while pushing the boundaries of what pop music can be from one song to the next. Brought to life by four distinctly talented musicians who found each other in the clubs of San Francisco over three decades ago and have remained a family ever since, All Over You is less a return from hiatus than a broadcast from the sonic utopia Imperial Teen has long ruled over, where the music is bratty and sexy and the parties don’t stop until everyone’s found euphoria.

Karate Boogaloo - Access All Areas LP (Colemine)

New studio album from the instrumental funk & soul group. ‘Access’ was the one word maxim philosophically guiding The Old Kar-Boo’s this innings. If a tune became convoluted, to the bin it went. Only those that could be hummed by any and all were kept. This sieve was on hand throughout the whole process, arrangements and forms were kept watertight, bells and whistles to a minimum. If 2024’s ‘Hold Your Horses’ was an epic, ‘Access All Areas’ is a haiku. [Pink vinyl pressing.]

Bella Kay - My Reckless Abandon LP (Atlantic)

Debut studio album from the Texas-born, LA-based singer-songwriter.

Kodaline - We Were Only Young LP (Fantasy)

After over a decade together, beloved Irish band Kodaline close a chapter with We Were Only Young, their fifth and final studio album. The title comes from the track of the same name - bittersweet reflection on looking back at better times. "Like most songs I write, it comes from something real," says lead singer Steve Garrigan. "That feeling of being part of something special... In some ways, it reflects the journey we've been on together." Written entirely by Garrigan, a first for the band, We Were Only Young stands as the perfect farewell from one of the most compelling indie-pop bands of their generation. [Indie exclusive tan color vinyl pressing.]

Left to Suffer - Unwelcome Guest CD/LP (Hopeless)

Left to Suffer are one of modern heavy music's most visceral acts, a band that hits with the force of a wrecking ball and the precision of a scalpel. Their sound lives at the collision point of pit-starting brutality and haunting melody, built for listeners who want their catharsis loud, physical, and uncompromising. From pulverizing breakdowns to eerie atmospheric tension, Left to Suffer have carved out a lane entirely their own. One where rage and vulnerability coexist in the same breath, anchored by sharp songwriting, massive low-end weight, and hooks that land like aftershocks. [Orange color vinyl pressing.]

Pet Shop Boys - A Man from the Future 2xCD/LP (Parlophone)

Created in collaboration with Alan Turing biographer, Andrew Hodges, and performed by Pet Shop Boys and the Manchester Camerata Octet with narration by Juliet Stevenson, string arrangements by Sven Helbig and additional production, programming and synthesisers by Maarten Vos, the work explores eight significant chapters in the life and death of Alan Turing, the pioneering British mathematician and cryptanalyst who laid the foundations of modern computing. Originally performed at BBC Proms in 2014 and updated for this release.

Danielle Ponder - Everything Has Changed CD/LP (Dead Oceans)

The sophomore album from the Rochester-born, Atlanta-rooted R&B singer-songwriter was crafted through a period of immense transformation as the beloved vocalist propelled from being a lawyer to a full-fledged musical powerhouse. That artistic freedom threads the album, as heard on lead single, “Power”, which serves as both a declaration and an affirmation for the Black diaspora. Other highlights include the revelatory “Sun and Moon”, the towering blues ballad “God of You”, and the devastatingly vulnerable “Open Windows”. [Clear vinyl pressing.]

Dawn Richard - Creole Culture CD/LP (Merge Records)

The new album by Dawn Richard is a triumphant return to the sound of her King Creole era. Steeped in history but with its flag planted firmly in the future, Creole Culture pulls elements from Richard's heritage as a Black and Native American woman who has spent a lifetime making and engaging with music. Following New Breed (2019) and Second Line (2021), Creole Culture is akin to a panel of a triptych: a fully-realized sonic and narrative universe in which Richard, as King Creole, rebuilds her hometown of New Orleans in her image. Creole Culture presents Richard's New Orleans as a utopian soundscape - an intoxicating blend of R&B, soul, hip-hop, pop, and jazz - that's survived and thrived despite the dystopian circumstances visited upon it.

Linda Sikhakhane - LINDA CD (Blue Note)

Acclaimed South African jazz musician Linda Sikhakhane returns with LINDA, a deeply personal project that marks a milestone in his artistic journey blending spiritual jazz, African heritage, and contemporary influences into an absorbing body of work. Produced by Nduduzo Makhathini, the album features the saxophonist with pianist Cameron Campbell, bassist Conway Campbell, drummer Kabelo Mokhatla, and special guests Phila Dlozi, Omagugu, Ovuyonke, ZuluBoy, and Thabo Sikhakhane.

Troye Sivan - She's the Best CD/LP (Interscope)

The fourth full-length from the Australian pop singer-songwriter. [Indie exclusive navy blue vinyl pressing.]

Skillet - After the Storm CD/LP (Hear It Loud)

Skillet tap into the sound of surviving any adversity, dusting yourself off, and getting back up again for another round. Heavy guitars kick with the inspiration to keep going, while stadium-size hooks double as a reminder to never give up no matter what. [Indie exclusive blue vinyl pressing.]

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith - Ruin: It’s Not Just Music LP (Someone Special)

Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith returns with Ruin: It's Not Just Music, a new studio album that marks one of the most decisive statements in her creative trajectory. Across the past decade, KAS has established herself as a unique voice in experimental electronic music, a composer and synthesist whose work dissolves the boundaries between ambient electronica, contemporary classical, composition, and immersive sound design. Her new album arrives with a distinctive gravitational pull. Inspired by the sound of drum and bass, breakbeats fracture through dense fields of synthesis, percussive patterns and her signature melodic fragments -- motions that feel closer to the kinetic language of club music than the meditative spaces often associated with her past catalogue. The result is a body of work that feels both recognizably hers and newly charged, music that moves through the body as insistently as it engages the mind.

Todd Snider - My Second Rodeo CD/LP (Aimless Records)

A posthumous studio album from the dearly departed singer-songwriter. This album is a glimpse into the creative outpouring from Todd in September and October of 2025. He returned to the Purple Building in East Nashville to perfect what he called "the sound of country music 10 years from now". This meant taking his favorite country music tropes, dismantling and reassembling them over stretched-out, swampy grooves with New Orleans-style horns. He was so sure of this sound, feel, and his studio band's pliability that he insisted on recording his vocal and guitar first, with no accompaniment or click track. Todd wanted the band to record after him, so they would HAVE to follow his lead wherever it went. [East Nashville record store exclusive purple vinyl pressing.]

Vince Staples - Cry Baby LP (Loma Vista)

Vince Staples is one of the most revered voices of his generation. Though he's a celebrated multi-hyphenate, making an impact in TV, film, and contemporary culture, music is where he most naturally pushes boundaries as an artist, storyteller, and creative force. Following a string of acclaimed introspective projects, Ramona Park (a melancholic tribute to his hometown) and Dark Times (deeper, more personal themes), Cry Baby is a more outwardly facing artistic statement and piece of social commentary. Bonus track "Tulsa, OK" featured on vinyl versions only. [Baby blue vinyl pressing with alternate blue cover.]

The Tallest Man on Earth - Just Beyond Endless Mountain CD/LP (Anti-)

For nearly twenty years, Swedish singer-songwriter Kristian Matsson has played his way around the world as The Tallest Man on Earth, carving out a singular place in contemporary folk music. His discography has long been heard through the lens of the American folk tradition. But Just Beyond Endless Mountain quietly turns that perspective on its head. After returning to his native Dalarna in central Sweden, Matsson found himself listening to the music he had spent years trying to leave behind: the polskas, the old field recordings and the sounds of the local traditions that had surrounded him since childhood. The result is not a return to the past, but a step into new musical territory. Swedish folk music has reshaped his melodies, his voice, and the way he writes songs.

Teenage Fanclub - Do Not Dare to Dream CD/LP/cassette (Merge Records)

Teenage Fanclub’s 13th album takes its name from one of Norman Blake’s songs on the record, “I Do Not Dare To Dream,” an infectious anthemic song driven by ringing acoustic guitars, joined at the end by dueling electric guitars that wrap around each other like a reassuring hug. Blake says that the title is meant to mock those memes that urge people to “dare to dream,” which to him are “kind of ridiculous... I don’t think the world works that way.” And yet, just like the song that inspired its name, Do Not Dare To Dream is in no way a gloomy or pessimistic record. Like 2023’s Nothing Lasts Forever, Teenage Fanclub’s 13th album is full of songs that are calmly resolute, taking stock of the fraught state of the world without succumbing to despair. [Indie exclusive orange vinyl pressing.]

Tigrilily Gold - Country & Midwestern CD/LP (SME Nashville)

Sisters Kendra Olson and Krista Slaubaugh have been making music together since they could walk and officially formed Tigirlily Gold while still in their teens. After building a devoted following in their home state of North Dakota, the duo moved to Nashville, where they honed their craft performing four-hour sets multiple nights a week at Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row on Lower Broadway. Since then, they've shared stages with artists including Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Cole Swindell, Jon Pardi, and more. Their sophomore album, Country & Midwestern, named for their North Dakota roots continuing to celebrate the pride, humor, and heart that have become the duo's calling card.

Jess Williamson - A Mile South of Heaven CD/LP (New West)

Jess Williamson has built one of the most distinctive voices in American music - crystalline, acrobatic, and unmistakably her own. The Texas-born, Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist has spent the better part of a decade carving out her own lane at the intersection of indie folk, alt-country, and a deeply personal confessional tradition. Now, on her seventh studio album, she steps into new creative territory. Producer Shooter Jennings brings a deep-roots sensibility and studio instinct honed across decades, and together they've crafted twelve songs that honor the grit and sweep of classic country while remaining unmistakably contemporary. The sonic canvas is richer and more expansive than anything in Wiliamson's catalog to date - full of texture, warmth, and that ineffable Nashville-meets-Laurel-Canyon atmosphere that lives somewhere between Linda Ronstadt and Waylon Jennings. [Indie exclusive "Bay Pony" color vinyl pressing. CD and vinyl copies signed by Jess while supplies last!]

Remi Wolf - Mud CD/LP/cassette (Island)

If Remi Wolf's first two albums, 2021's Juno and 2024's Big Ideas, were in technicolor, her third LP Mud is it's more neutral, earthy and grounded sibling. Still colorful, as Wolf tends to be, but from a more rooted & grounded place. The rawness with which Wolf wrote the album is delivered in the sound: stripped away of synths and programmed drums, Mud is Remi Wolf at her most lyrically and sonically vulnerable. The songs evoke the feeling of singing around a campfire with just your friends and a couple guitars because that's how it felt for Wolf to make it. But to find the clearing in the forest, she needed to make a whole new trail first. [Available as an indie exclusive smoky color vinyl pressing and as a bubblegum pink pressing with a signed jacket, while supplies last.]

Reissues, Comps, Live Recordings, Vault Excavations...

Gracie Abrams - The Secret of Us LP (Interscope)

Gracie Abrams' 2024 sophomore album arrives on exclusive Dark Pomegranate color vinyl, available only at indie retailers. Gracie's growth as a songwriter and vocalist is showcased in her most extroverted album yet as she continues to work with longtime collaborator Aaron Dessner. A portion of these songs were also written with Gracie's best friend, Audrey Hobert. This album was written with the urgency with which you run home to detail every moment of a night to your friend.

Kenny Barron - Sunset to Dawn CD (Time Traveler)

Originally released in 1973 on Muse Records, Sunset to Dawn marked Kenny Barron's stunning debut as a bandleader. Already a well-respected sideman with stints alongside Dizzy Gillespie and Yusef Lateef, Barron steps into the spotlight with an album that's both soulful and forward-looking, blending post-bop virtuosity with spiritual searching. The album unfolds like a journey - lyrical, bold, and emotionally resonant. The presence of Carlos Garnett adds fire and edge, while Buster Williams and Freddie Waits lay down a groove that's both loose and grounded.

Terrence Mann - Beauty and the Beast: The Broadway Musical 2xLP (Walt Disney Records)

Original Broadway Cast Recording of Disney's beloved stage adaptation, featuring classic songs by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice.

Calibro 35 - Ellroy vs L.A. LP (Record Kicks)

The union between Italian cinematic funk visionaries Calibro 35 and internationally acclaimed master of noir fiction and New York Times bestselling author James Ellroy. When asked to compose the original soundtrack for Francesco Zippel's documentary Ellroy vs L.A., Calibro 35 stepped directly into Ellroy's universe and the most dangerous corners of American crime fiction and discovered, to no one's surprise, that its darkness felt strangely familiar. Stylistically, the album finds Calibro 35 in their most natural yet most cinematic state: crime funk, psychedelia, and hypnotic groove pushed into darker, more narrative-driven territory by the weight of Ellroy's world.

John Coltrane - Ballads (Verve Essential Vinyl Series) LP (Verve)

John Coltrane's time with Impulse! Records was highlighted by the conscious-altering original work of albums like A Love Supreme and Ascension. But Ballads, released in 1963, proved Trane could make any repertoire his own — even time-worn standards interpreted in the studio with his burgeoning classic quintet of pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Jimmy Garrison and drummer Elvin Jones. (Garrison's predecessor Jimmy Workman appears on one track.) Working largely from minimal rehearsals and stunning single takes, beloved numbers like "All or Nothing At All," "It's Easy to Remember" and "What's New?" are infused with an energy that makes these songs feel brand new, further establishing Trane as one of the most striking bandleaders of his generation.

Released on Prestige in 1958 as one of four albums recorded at Van Gelder studios in 1956, Relaxin’ features Davis alongside the first great quintet of John Coltrane, Paul Chambers, Red Garland and Philly Joe Jones.

Bill Evans - California Here I Come (Verve Vault Series) 2xLP (Verve)

Six years after the legendary live sets that yielded two of Bill Evans' best-loved albums for Riverside, Sunday At The Village Vanguard and Waltz for Debby, the influential jazz pianist returned to the same Manhattan jazz club for two nights in 1967, in a rare trio setting with Eddie Gómez on bass and Philly Joe Jones on drums. The recordings were compiled on the perhaps confusingly-titled double album California Here I Come in 1982, issued two years after Evans' passing. Despite the perceived coastal mix-up, one thing is clear: Evans and his rhythm section were in fine form, delivering unbridled spirit, rhythmic fire and high-energy interplay with each other on readings of standards like "Round Midnight," "In a Sentimental Mood," "Stella by Starlight" and the then-new Bacharach/David standout "Alfie."

Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Ella & Louis (Verve Essential Vinyl Series) LP (Verve)

One of the most charming duos in any genre, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong established Verve Records as one of the most exciting jazz labels of all time. Their unmistakable voices, backed by Satchmo's iconic horn, the delectable sound of the Oscar Peterson Trio and drummer Buddy Rich, electrified audiences when the album was first released in 1956, spurring a further pair of collaborative LPs. Ella and Louis offers incredible versions of timeless standards like "They Can't Take That Away from Me," "Cheek to Cheek," "The Nearness of You," "A Foggy Day" and more.

Stan Getz & João Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto (Verve Essential Vinyl Series) LP (Verve)

From the shores of Rio de Janiero, the sound of bossa nova changed the way the world heard jazz in the 1960s. Arguably the finest record of its kind, 1964's Getz/Gilberto marked a meeting of the minds between Stan Getz, one of America's top jazz saxophonists, and a collection of Brazilian bossa nova legends including singer/guitarist João Gilberto and songwriter/pianist Antônio Carlos Jobim. A Grammy Award winner for Album of the Year, the LP features the definitive recordings of the international hit "The Girl from Ipanema" (featuring vocals from Astrud Gilberto) and "Desafinado.”

Billie Holiday - Body & Soul (Verve Essential Vinyl Series) LP (Verve)

Billie Holiday's life and career ended far too soon in 1959 after a lifetime of personal struggles. But Lady Day's final works for Verve Records, including 1957's Body and Soul, showcase a voice that, despite some changes, lost none of its power to move audiences in much the same way as she did with her bold, early, expressive recordings. These late career interpretations of favorites like "Embraceable You," "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "They Can't Take That Away from Me" and the heartfelt title track had a profound influence on generations of song interpreters — a brilliant keepsake of a voice that still resonates today.

Horse Jumper of Love - Horse Jumper of Love (10 Year Anniversary Edition) 2xLP (Run for Cover)

Ten years ago, Horse Jumper of Love released their self-titled debut, one that not only launched their career but also inspired a generation of shoegaze artists to come. Recorded in a mill space studio by future longtime collaborator Bradford Krieger and first released in 2016 (before a re-issue by Run For Cover in 2017), Horse Jumper of Love introduced listeners to the band’s unique strain of expertly crafted minimalism and haunting lyricism. Tracks like “Orange Peeler” and “Ugly Brunette” capture a gritty melancholy and existentialism that is both youthful and timeless, angst-ridden and sincere. This 10 Year Anniversary Deluxe Edition LP contains the original album remastered, alongside a disc featuring 13 bonus tracks recorded between the years of 2013-2015, mostly by Dimitri at home on a Tascam Portastudio, including single “Heathers (2013)” which was an early version of what would later become “i love you very much forever” and other never before heard demos, b-sides, and alternate versions of the original songs.

Ida - I Know About You (30th Anniversary Edition) 2xLP (Numero)

The only break-up record you'll ever need to own. With its lofted harmonies, pick-pocket rhythms, and wailing-in-the-2am-distance ambulance guitar solos, Ida's 1996 sophomore album leaked out of Brooklyn via detachable car stereo CD players and mixtapes from long-distance lovers. Originally issued on the stalwart Simple Machines label, this 30th anniversary deluxe Numero edition of I Know About You adds half a dozen extras, a wealth of photographic evidence - tissues not included.

Ahmad Jamal - Ahmad Jamal '73 (Verve Vault Series) LP (Verve)

On Ahmad Jamal ’73, one of jazz's most acclaimed small-group pianists traded in his most familiar instrument for something with a new spin, recording his first of seven studio works for the 20th Century label from behind the electric piano. Backed by an expanded orchestra arranged and conducted by album co-producer Richard Evans, the ensuing album merges familiar jazz traditions with the sound of a new era, pairing Jamal's leads with massive string, vocal, and horn arrangements on versions of then-current soul-funk hits (Stevie Wonder's "Superstition," War's "The World is a Ghetto") and spiritual jazz and funk numbers ("Sustah, Sustah," "Peace At Last").

[Pink vinyl pressing.]

Charles Mingus - Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus (Verve Essential Vinyl Series) LP (Verve)

Say it as many times as you'd like: one of Charles Mingus' last great works as a bandleader is a must-hear, no matter how familiar you are with his extraordinary songbook. 1964's Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus, released on the Impulse! label, featured the beloved bassist leading a series of brass-heavy ensembles through some of the most notable works he'd written to date, including the standard "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" (retitled "Theme for Lester Young") and "Better Get Hit in Yo' Soul." These remarkable reinterpretations helped bolster Mingus' influence as the decades wore on, with artists like Joni Mitchell dedicating whole tributes to his work near the end of his career.

NOFX - Wolves in Wolves Clothing LP (Fat Wreck Chords)

Released in 2006, NOFX's tenth studio album, Wolves in Wolves' Clothing, is a blistering blend of aggressive political satire and melodic skate punk. Capturing the sociopolitical anxiety of the second Bush presidency, frontman Fat Mike sharpens his pen to target organized religion, corporate greed, and blind patriotism. Fan favorites like "Seeing Double at the Triple Rock" and "Leaving Jesusland" showcase their signature fast tempos, tight harmonies, and dark humor. [Highlighter yellow vinyl pressing.]

Ziad Rahbani - Ana Moush Kafer LP (Wewantsounds)

A classic album by Lebanese legend Ziad Rahbani, recorded at his By-Pass Studio in Beirut during the height of the Lebanese Civil War in 1985. Never before available on vinyl, this new edition features the original Relax-In cassette artwork from 1985 and includes new liner notes by Mario Choueiry of the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. The album blends Arabic melodic traditions with jazz-funk, bossa nova and Western arrangements. Throughout the album, Rahbani's writing reflects the turbulence of wartime Beirut with a blend of sharp social observation, political satire and melancholy. It captures a moment in Lebanese cultural history where experimentation, satire and popular song intersected, giving the album its enduring influence among music lovers.

The Three Degrees - Heartbroken Memories LP (Soul City)

A stunning new collection bringing together the debut Philly soul sides by The Three Degrees for the first time on vinyl. Ten years before The Three Degrees achieved international recognition with their global hit "When Will I See You Again" they were carving an identity with writer/producer Richard Barrett for a local Philly label, Swan Records. As this collection demonstrates, though the group's appeal may not have had the major impact the trio would later experience, a number of recordings on this album found fame and resonance on the Northern Soul scene, in particular with tracks such as "Gotta Draw The Line," "Do What You're Supposed To Do", "Are You Satis-fied" and "Contact."

Total Wife - Come Back Down CD/LP (Julia's War/Winspear)

Released on cassette in 2025, now available on CD and vinyl. Come Back Down, the new album by Nashville shoegaze/experimental-pop duo Total Wife, was born from the edge of sleep. When composer and producer Luna Kupper would begin to fall asleep during late-night mixing sessions, the songs would follow her into the halfway place between dream and lucidity. Like Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, she'd wake with a new perspective on the puzzle she was piecing together. And like a spiral from waking life into dream, the songs on Come Back Down are endlessly self-referential, building whole universes from a single point. Kupper sold all of her synths to make rent before she started working on the album, and so every inorganic sound is instead built from samples of the band’s own work. A guitar on one song may be reprocessed and used as a synth on the next, while everywhere on the album vocal samples are taken from a single unreleased cover of Elliott Smith’s “Between the Bars.” The intention was to create something complex but accessible; experimental, yet precise and without abstraction. [Electric blue vinyl pressing.]
