Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

The Black Crowes - A Pound of Feathers CD/LP (Silver Arrow Records)

Fresh off the GRAMMY-nominated success of Happiness Bastards (2024), Chris and Rich Robinson wasted no time getting back to work. In early 2025, the brothers returned to Nashville to reunite with producer Jay Joyce and recapture the spark that powered their last record. This is the result. Reflective of their mood and expression, The Black Crowes have created a rock record that's loose and funky, dark and heavy, sensuous and jagged, flesh and bone.

James Blake - Trying Times CD/2xLP (Good Boy Records)

English producer, songwriter, and musician James Blake returns with his seventh studio album and first fully independent release. Written between London and Los Angeles, the album confronts the turbulence of the last several years - global unrest, fractured discourse, and personal reckonings while searching for empathy, connection, and love amid chaos. [Indie exclusive white vinyl pressing.]

Colton Bowlin - Grandpa's Mill CD/LP (State Line Records)

Colton Bowlin grew up in the hills of Albany, Kentucky, where hard work and family shaped everything he knew. He grew up working six days a week at his late grandfather's feed mill, grounding his songwriting in genuine small-town values and working-class experiences. On his new album Grandpa's Mill, Bowlin traces memory, legacy, and the passing of time with the same quiet honesty that's always been at the heart of his work, blending songs about his real life experiences with hard lessons learned and tales of rural life in Appalachia. The album was recorded and produced in Athens, Georgia with David Ferguson. [Purple vinyl pressing.]

Brigitte Calls Me Baby - Irreversible CD/LP (ATO Records)

Brigitte Calls Me Baby's sophomore album perfectly captures their live energy and acclaimed songwriting. Produced by Yves & Lawrence Rothman (Blondshell, Yves Tumor), the album came to life amidst a relentless tour schedule including festivals (Lollapalooza) and shows with Muse & the Last Dinner Party, as well as sold-out headline shows across the US, UK & Europe. The result: a majestic suite of songs that burn bright, hit hard, and celebrate the drama of being alive. [White vinyl pressing.]

Chalk - Crystalpunk CD/LP (Alter Music)

Irish duo Chalk's full-length debut LP Crystalpunk speaks directly to the upbringing and roots of the band members - award-winning musicians and filmmakers Ross Cullen [vocalist + producer] and Benedict Goddard [multi-instrumentalist + director]. The beauty, confusion, complexity, and intensity of their youth - lived under the shadow and around the scars of conflict - are entangled in the industrial dance-punk hybrid encoded in the record's DNA. "This record is us waving a flag for that generation - the ones who inherited confusion, resilience, and a fractured sense of self." [Smoky clear color vinyl pressing.]

Cat Clyde - Mud Blood Bone LP (Concord Records)

Cat Clyde's fourth album finds her at a transformative point in her life. Produced by Drew Vandenberg (Faye Webster, S. G. Goodman), Mud Blood Bone meets at a sonic crossroads - the rockabilly grit of Sierra Ferrell melding with the evocative folk rock volatility of Big Thief - as Clyde charts a long journey to reshape the meaning of love in her life. It's a messy, and unabashedly human, pursuit that she presents with irresistibly relatable honesty. [Red vinyl pressing.]

Converge - Love is Not Enough LP (Deathwish)

Recently released on CD, now available on vinyl. The first album from the metalcore outfit in 5 years, Love Is Not Enough was recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou at God City in Salem, Massachusetts, with engineering assistance from Zach Weeks. Jacob Bannon did the artwork and design, creating an image for each song and a commanding cover depicting a celestial witness to a world aflame. Love Is Not Enough features no special guests, no studio trickery, no relentless massaging of human imperfection in trying to manufacture the perfect take. [Indie exclusive gold vinyl pressing.]

Cut Worms - Transmitter LP (Jagjaguwar)

Transmitter is Max Clarke's fourth full length record as Cut Worms. Produced by Jeff Tweedy at Wilco's Loft studio, Transmitter marks a deepening of Clarke's abilities and the convergence of two artists whose work searches for grace amid dislocation. If previous Cut Worms releases were steeped in Brill Building decadence and madcap Americana, the sound on Transmitter feels darker, richer, more saturated with the anxiety of contemporary living. With sonic touchstones ranging from The Replacements to Big Star to Elliott Smith, the songs here reckon with the cost of comfort and return to the idea that beauty, connection, and love are not luxuries but necessities for survival. [Transparent red vinyl pressing.]

Dogpark - Corporate / Vision LP (Big Loud Records)

Dogpark's debut vinyl release combines the previously released EP 'Until The Tunnel Vision Melts' with their new EP 'Corporate Pudding.' 'Until The Tunnel Vision Melts' features heavy-hitter singles such as "Hollywood" and "Caviar," while 'Corporate Pudding' includes the recent hit "September" and 3 brand-new tracks. Dogpark closed out 2025 on their iconic Corporate Pudding Tour, selling out venues such as The Troubadour and Irving Plaza. [Mint green vinyl pressing.]

Amy Gadiaga - Babygoated 12" (Psychic Hotline)

French-Afropean artist Amy Gadiaga (AH-mee GAH-dee-ah-gah) is a London-based bassist, vocalist, and composer. Her debut EP All Black Everything announced the arrival of a vital new voice on the London jazz scene. With her new project BabyGoated, Gadiaga steps boldly into color and confidence. Leaning into organic textures, BabyGoated embraces warm piano, trumpet, and folk-tinged guitar. "BabyGoated encapsulates who I am," Gadiaga explains. "Both vulnerable (baby) and bold (goated). It's cute and endearing, but also slightly arrogant."

Kim Gordon - Play Me CD/LP (Matador)

Kim Gordon's third album is distilled and immediate, expanding Gordon's sonic palette to include more melodic beats and the motorik drive of krautrock. "We wanted the songs to be short," Gordon says. "We wanted to do it really fast. It's more focused, and maybe more confident." The follow-up to 2024's Justin Raisen-produced, two-time Grammy-nominated 'The Collective' processes, in her inimitable way, the collateral damage of the billionaire class: the demolition of democracy, technocratic end-times fascism, the A.I.-fueled chill-vibes flattening of culture - where dark humor voices the absurdity of modern life. [Indie exclusive white vinyl pressing.]

Laurel Halo - Midnight Zone 2xLP (Awe)

Laurel Halo returns with an album of original soundtrack music, composed for the film Midnight Zone by visual artist Julian Charrière. Following the path of a drifting Fresnel lighthouse lens as it descends through the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone -- a remote abyssal plain in the Pacific Ocean, rich in rare metals and increasingly targeted for deep-sea mining -- the film traces a descent into one of Earth's last untouched ecosystems. Halo's compositions evoke a sensory freefall where gravity falters and light and sound flicker in uncertain rhythms. The material features long, subtle passages of electro-acoustic ambient, drone and sound design, slowly flowing and unfolding with rich detail. The music, composed largely on a Montage 8 synthesizer and Yamaha TransAcoustic piano at the Yamaha studios in New York City, possesses an uncanny quality: that of synthetic waveforms being amplified and sung through the stringboard of the physical body of the TransAcoustic piano. Combined with stacks of violin and viol da gamba, the music on Midnight Zone possesses trace elements of a human hand in an otherwise sunken landscape. Patient, submerged, and alive.

Jack Harlow - Monica CD (Atlantic)

Harlow's fourth album and follow-up to 2023's Jackman finds him moving away from his pop rap beginnings and toward a sound rooted in contemporary R&B.

Haute & Freddy - Big Disgrace CD/LP (Atlantic)

Haute and Freddy is the dazzling brainchild of Michelle Buzz and Lance Shipp. The duo released their first single "Scantily Clad" in 2024, sparking a devoted fanbase. Fast forward to now, and the comment sections are buzzing with fans speaking in Ren Faire lingo, while their shows are filled with attendees crafting their own jester hats, as a mime clown joyfully twists balloon crowns for the rest of the Royal Court-aka H&F's loyal followers. Their love for theater, obscure synths, and underground club culture runs deep, infusing every track with an audacious energy. On their debut album, the duo moves through their music like a runaway circus, crashing through the veneer of polite society with all the flair of an 18th-century escapade. [Red vinyl pressing.]

Johnny Blue Skies & the Dark Clouds - Mutiny After Midnight CD/LP (Atlantic)

The latest album from the alter ego of Sturgill Simpson and follow-up to 2024's Passage du Desir. [Indie exclusive red vinyl pressing.]

Durand Jones - Let's Take Our Time / Flower Moon 7" (Colemine)

New 7" single from the modern soul band. Following their beloved 2025 album, Flowers, “Let’s Take Our Time” is warm and romantic, made for swaying close and savoring the moment. Frazer says of the track, "’Let’s Take Our Time’ is a tribute to old school courtship. The kind that thrives in anticipation and letting the excitement build slowly. [Random color vinyl pressing.]

Lamb of God - Into Oblivion CD/LP (Epic)

Lamb of God’s tenth album, Into Oblivion, sees them embracing their position as music veterans; Beholden to no one, with nothing to prove. Drawing from the tumultuous nature of the American political and cultural landscape, the band explores new sonic territory while simultaneously referencing their roots and doubling down on their signature groove. Into Oblivion is a blistering manifestation of decades of exploring, refining, and pioneering the metal of the 21st century. [Gray splatter "Poltergeist" color vinyl pressing.]

Tate McRae - SO CLOSE TO WHAT??? 2xLP (RCA)

The deluxe edition of McRae's 2025 album. Featuring 5 new songs including "Tit for Tat." [Ultra Clear vinyl pressing.]

Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer LP (deadAir)

I Love My Computer is the debut studio album by Australian electronic DJ and producer Ninajirachi. It's a nostalgic exploration of the electronic music Ninajirachi grew up listening to, including trance, electro house, and complextro. [Half blue, half white vinyl pressing.]

The Orielles - Only You Left LP (Heavenly)

The fourth album from the Manchester-based band consolidates the bold experimentation of their previous LP, Tableau (2022), with a return to the more stripped-back, song-led approach of their early indie-rock origins. Whereas the process of Tableau was semi-improvisational and part-written in the recording studio, Only You Left was fleshed out through a series of intense writing sessions dating from May 2023 to the summer of 2024. Each song was refined meticulously in the studio and became its own distinctive work, drawing from influences such as Portishead, Tara Clerkin Trio, and post-rock acts like Mogwai to create a sound that is familiarly Orielles, yet altogether different.

Placid Angles - Canada 2xLP (Oath)

With over 20 albums under his belt, ambient techno producer John Beltran returns to his much-loved Placid Angles project with one of his strongest albums to date. Years of experience have brought a deep focus and awareness of textures, space and emotion that reveal a producer at the top of his game. From the sound of slowly moving mountains that is the title track "Canada" to the breakbeat-laden "Hero BK" and collaborations with Sophia Stel, Tom VR, and Yussh, it's easy to hear why this album is special.

Daniel Romano - Preservers of the Pearl LP (You've Changed)

Daniel Romano's Outfit release their career-defining new album, Preservers of the Pearl, asserting themselves as messengers of the new wave of underground rock and roll, pushing the movement forward alongside fellow trailblazers Mystery Lights, Sheer Mag, Shadow Show, Uni Boys + more. Daniel Romano shifts from his position as sole writer, opening the floor to Outfit stalwarts Ian Romano and Carson McHone, and welcoming into the fold longtime friend and legendary Canadian rock-n-roller, Tommy Major. The band is functioning as a true collective - multiple voices and perspectives - all serving one creative pulse. [Indie exclusive yellow vinyl pressing.]

Shelf Lives - Hypernormal LP (Not Sorry Mom)

The debut album from the electro-punk act, produced by imdead, captures the duo at their most uncompromising - blistering, self-aware, and disturbingly danceable. Just when you think you've figured them out, Shelf Lives grin, twist the dial, and push the needle into the red. The album sees the band collaborating with an enviable list of who's who, from Danio (Fred Again, Joy Anonymous, Jelani Blackman) on 60K, to writing with Pat Alvarez (Blessed Madonna, Joy Crookes, Good Neighbours) and Lola Sam from Hot Wax playing bass on 'like heR'. [Indie exclusive green vinyl.]

The Sophs - Goldstar CD/LP (Rough Trade)

Los Angeles six-piece The Sophs have ridden a wave of notoriety ever since signing to Rough Trade Records on the strength of their demos - which they cold-emailed to label heads Geoff Travis and Jeannette Lee before they ever even played a show. At any moment, The Sophs are entering pop-punk; blazing through funk; talk-singing to the audience. Their enthusiasm for every iteration is evident, and Ramon's rich, full voice deftly nestles into endless categories, utterly chameleonic. "We never try to be as versatile as we end up being," Ramon said. Goldstar has a Delta Blues-style song; it has a ZZ Top-inspired tune. To some degree, The Sophs see song creation like pop art: they're focused on the idea of reproducing something over and over again until it's meaningless. [Red vinyl pressing.]

Sweet Pill - Still There's a Glow LP (Hopeless Records)

Sweet Pill's sophomore album is a resilient response to the mounting pressures following their breakout debut, Where The Heart Is. Marking a significant evolution in their creative dynamic, the new album is the first written fully as a collaborative unit by vocalist Zayna Youssef, guitarists Jayce Williams and Sean McCall, bassist Ryan Cullen, & drummer Chris Kearney. Recorded with longtime producers Matt Weber & Dave Downham, the record aims to bottle the kinetic energy of their live shows-performances that have earned them endorsements from stars like Hayley Williams and Doja Cat. The resulting sound is an elevated mix of math-rock intricacy, urgent punk, and heartfelt emo. [Indie exclusive yellow & blue splatter vinyl pressing.]

Tony Trischka - Earl Jam 2 CD/LP (Down the Road)

Hailed by The New York Times as “the father of modern bluegrass” and by NPR as “the great banjo liberationist,” Tony Trischka has spent more than six decades redefining what the banjo can do while remaining deeply rooted in the tradition that inspired him. Trischka’s mission comes into sharp focus with Earl Jam 2, the long-awaited companion to his Grammy and IBMA Award-nominated 2023 release Earl Jam. Both albums are built around a remarkable discovery: a cache of previously unheard recordings of Earl Scruggs and John Hartford informally jamming at Scruggs’ home between 1987 and 1998. Earl Jam 2 features 15 newly selected performances drawn from the same archive, spanning traditional standards, deep-cut fiddle tunes, and iconic American songs. Features contributions from Sierra Ferrell, the SteelDrivers, Sam Bush, Molly Tuttle, Billy Strings, and more.

Foy Vance - The Wake CD (Rounder)

Foy Vance's seventh album marks the completion of a decades-long journey defined by tireless soul-searching and life-altering revelation. Produced by Ethan Johns (Paul McCartney, Ray LaMontagne); The Wake brings Vance's gritty vocal to a potent convergence of folk, soul and Southern blues. In his intimate exploration of the human condition, the result is the purest distillation of his truly singular artistry, imparting defiant joy into songs of longing and loss and hard-won acceptance.

[Pink marble color vinyl pressing.]

Alexandre Desplat - Frankenstein O.S.T. CD/2xLP (Mutant)

Since its publication in 1818, Mary Shelley's groundbreaking novel Frankenstein has borne a seemingly infinite number of cinematic versions, and from that, some exceptional film music. Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein is the latest, and Alexandre Desplat's score is the perfect accompaniment. In their third collaboration, following 2017's The Shape of Water and 2022's Pinocchio, the pair have conjured an electrifying mix of beautiful lyricism and deep emotions, conveying the wonder and tragedy of Shelley's classic tale. Desplat writes music for Victor's creation that is surprisingly enchanting as well as forceful, with an almost euphoric waltz scoring the building of Victor's gruesome experiment, with flesh and sinew abound. [Limited edition red & white vinyl pressing.]

Peter Gabriel - In the Big Room 2xCD/2xLP (Real World)

This 14-song live set draws on material from both the Growing Up Live tour of 2002/2003 - Gabriel's first in 10 years that accompanied the release of his album UP - and the subsequent Still Growing Up Live tour that ran through much of 2004. Notable additions to the Growing Up Live set include "Burn You Up, Burn You Down," "Games Without Frontiers" and "The Tower That Ate People." For the performance Peter is joined by his touring band from this period of Tony Levin (bass), David Rhodes (guitar), Ged Lynch (drums), Richard Evans (guitar, whistle, mandolin), Rachel Z (keyboard and backing vox) and Melanie Gabriel (backing vox).

Various Artists - Great Lakes Gospel - Vol 2: Detroit LP (Numero)

Over the decades, Numero has excavated a metric ton of recordings from the depths of Detroit. From all manner of mini Motowns we've uncovered soul, R&B, funk, disco, boogie, and by nature of proximity-gospel. Previous examinations of the Revival and Big Mack labels turned up more than a few new apocryphal hymns, and Great Lakes Gospel Vol. 2 compiles a dozen curious church groups devotionally reaching towards the genres frayed edge. Get lost in ecstatic choir funk, pulpit rappin, direct-injection guitar solos, and the holy spirit, should it move you. [Orange & red swirl vinyl pressing.]

Joe Henderson - Tetragon LP (Craft Recordings)

Tetragon is tenor saxophone virtuoso Joe Henderson's second album on the Milestone label, where he continued to develop his sound in the post-bop realm before venturing further into the spiritual jazz realm later in his career, joined by a world-class ensemble featuring Ron Carter, Jack DeJohnette, Kenny Barron, Louis Hayes, and Don Friedman. This Jazz Dispensary Top Shelf reissue of Tetragon was cut from the original analog tapes (AAA) by Kevin Gray, pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing, and comes packaged in a gatefold tip-on jacket.

Humble Pie - Live in Cincinatti 1983 CD (Cleopatra)

Includes liner notes from music historian Dave Thompson, plus two bonus studio tracks recorded the year prior.

Mdou Moctar - Ilana (The Creator) CD/LP (Matador)

Blistering and hypnotic, 'Ilana (The Creator)' (2019) marked the beginning of a new chapter for Mdou Moctar. It is the Nigerien guitar hero's first album recorded with a live rock band and perfectly captures the heavy, psychedelic sound - part Tuareg desert blues, part ZZ Top - that the quartet had honed through endless touring and which would come to explosive fruition on 'Afrique Victime' (2021) and 'Funeral For Justice' (2024). 'Ilana' was the first step and its songs remain setlist standbys for the quartet's soaring performances.

Prong - Live and Uncleansed LP (Steamhammer)

A new live album from the American metal act, recorded over seven nights in July and August 2025, finds the band in top form. "We were really well rehearsed, this is truly a live record, everything is as is," explains Tommy Victor, proudly adding: "You can hear some of the little mistakes here and there, but that makes it cool."

Pup - Megacity Madness (The Official Live Recordings) LP (Rise Records)

Toronto alt-rock weirdos Pup spent a week in July 2025 performing a series of shows in Toronto. Starting the week at a house show and ending it at the venue History, the entire run was a sold-out sweat fest. This LP is the official live recordings taken from that show. [Multi-color splatter vinyl pressing.]

Nala Sinephro - The Smashing Machine O.S.T. CD/LP (Warp)

The London-based experimental jazz musician's original soundtrack for the film directed and written by Benny Safdie, which tells the story of prolific UFC fighter Mark Kerr.

Gabor Szabo - Spellbinder LP (Impulse)

Recorded in May 1966 at Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Cliffs studio, Spellbinder introduced Hungarian guitarist Gabor Szabo to a wider American audience with a set that blends modal jazz, Eastern European folk influences, and 1960s pop textures. Recorded in May 1966 at Rudy Van Gelder's Englewood Cliffs studio and produced by Bob Thiele, Spellbinder features Szabo in a quintet setting with pianist Chick Corea (in one of his earliest recorded sessions), bassist Albert Stinson, drummer Chico Hamilton, and percussionist Willie Bobo. The record's standout moment is a reimagining of Sonny Bono's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)," which Szabó transforms into a darkly lyrical modal meditation. Elsewhere, the group blurs the lines between jazz improvisation and global rhythms, bridging bop vocabulary with the expanding musical frontiers of the mid-1960s.

The Undertones - The Undertones CD (BMG)
The Undertones - Hypnotised CD (BMG)

Remastered reissues of the new wave/power pop group's first two albums, originally released in 1979 and 1980.

Witch - The Hex Is On... and Then Some CD/LP (Lost Realm Records)

A definitive compilation album from the inflammatory '80s metal band from southern California. This exhaustive collection captures every studio recording from their tumultuous 1984-1989 run, alongside forgotten 1996 studio sessions under the God Box moniker, produced by Howard Leese (Heart). Formed in 1983, Witch emerged from the remnants of Ampage. Their sold-out debut unleashed a spectacle of blood, fire, and fishnets, with the self-inflicted wounds and pyro stunts conducted by drummer and mayhem overlord, Punky Peru. This deluxe edition will include remastered audio, an extensive biography filled with controversial stories, rare band photos and clippings, and song lyrics. [Limited edition red vinyl pressing.]

Will Orman
