Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Melissa Aldana - Filin CD/LP (Blue Note)

Tenor saxophonist Melissa Aldana's third Blue Note album is an exquisite ballads album that presents stunning new versions of songs drawn from the Filin music tradition of Cuba, a style of popular song from the 1940s-60s that was deeply influenced by American musicians such as Nat King Cole. The album title is a homophone with the word feelin' and the deeply felt performances find Aldana with a remarkable quartet featuring the Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba with Peter Washington on bass and Kush Abadey on drums, as well as special guest vocalist Cecile McLorin Salvant on two tracks. The band also interprets songs by Brazilian composers Hermeto Pascoal ("Little Church") and Cartola ("Las Rosas No Hablan").

Angel Du$t - Cold 2 the Touch CD/LP/cassette (Run for Cover)

The 26-minute blast of eclectic and hardhitting music on Cold 2 the Touch makes it clear that Angel Du$t can't be contained within the confines of narrow subgenres, and that a term as elemental as rock & roll might actually fit like a glove. This is the band's most overtly ferocious album in some time - a blender of hard riffs and big hooks that are matched by vocalist/mastermind Justice Tripp's open-hearted existentialism. This is a creative endeavor where heart-on-sleeve musings about the finite nature of life can coexist with the unbridled thrill of violence-enducing riffs, where real humanity can flourish and being true to yourself and your own spectrum of thoughts, interests, and feelings takes primacy above all else. [Available as an exclusive "First Run Club" Red & Black Button color vinyl pressing.]

Ásgeir - Julia CD/LP (One Little Independent)

On his fifth studio album, Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásgeir enters intriguing and uncharted territory. After years of engaging translators such as John Grant and working with the poetry of his father, Einar Georg Einarsson, Ásgeir has penned his lyrics by himself for the first time in his long and celebrated career. The result is a deeply contemplative body of work, steeped in nostalgia, that sees Ásgeir meditating on his past regrets as well as his hopes for the future, guided by the spectre of the album's title character. [Limited edition green vinyl pressing.]

Beck - Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime LP (Capitol)

A lovingly curated collection of rarities, deep cuts and cover versions by Beck on red vinyl. Featuring iconic tracks like "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" from the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack and a soulful rendition of "I Can't Help Falling In Love," this is a beautifully crafted collection of songs to add to Beck's iconic catalog of releases. Also features new recordings of "True Love Will Find You in the End" and "Your Cheatin' Heart." [Red vinyl pressing.]

Bilders - Neverlasting LP (Cabron Records)

Neverlasting is a mix of psychic adventures, hard psychedelia and commentary with a bite. Bilders have always sung outliers with a heap of empathy—exploitation of migrants, unmitigated killing and the state of our depleted planet. This album maintains an analog feel with technical finesse as it casts a cold eye on uses and abuses of power in the higher echelons. It is pure Bilders. Surprise collaborations bring in fresh tangents of colour and emotional edge. “We are the Neverlasting renter-squatters of Earth exhausted”. The album features Bill Direen (voice/guitar), Matt Swanson (bass) and Alex McManus (nearly everything else), with guesting by former Bilders and Athens, Georgia lights Claire Horne (of 1980s BBQ Killers) and Curtiss Pernice (guitarist of heavy vanguard Porn Orchard), with a snook-in from experimental and electronic prince Todd Gerber. This is quite simply the strongest Bilders album ever.

Charli XCX - Wuthering Heights CD/LP (Atlantic)

Wuthering Heights is the second soundtrack album by British singer Charli XCX. It was created for the film of the same name. [Green and black vinyl pressing.]

Eric Church - Evangeline vs. the Machine Comes Alive 2xLP (EMI Nashville)

Eric Church's celebrated Evangeline vs. The Machine 2025 album, alongside hits including "Desperate Man, " "Give Me Back My Hometown, " "Sinners Like Me, " and "Springsteen," reimagined with a 6-piece band, 4-piece horns, 4-piece strings, 8-piece choir and vocalist Joanna Cotten.

Clay Street Unit - Sin & Squalor CD (Leo33)

The long-awaited debut album from the celebrated roots sextet out of Denver, Colorado. Produced by Chris Pandolfi of the Grammy-winning Infamous Stringdusters, Sin & Squalor captures the rugged spirit of the West, the folk and country traditions of the South, and the soul of modern Americana.

Colony House - 77 (Part 2) LP (self released)

Colony House’s fifth studio album, 77, is both a sonic departure and a spiritual arrival, a retro-futurist meditation on eternity, nostalgia, and the invisible threads that hold us together. Steeped in the aesthetics of 1990s sound, 77 finds the Tennessee-based four-piece—brothers Caleb and Will Chapman, alongside Scott Mills and Parke Cottrell—reaching beyond what can be seen, touched, or even easily explained. For a band that built its name on emotion-driven, heart-on-sleeve rock and roll, 77 is a natural evolution: a mature, longing album that doesn’t pretend to have all the answers but is brave enough to keep asking the questions. Broken down into two individual records, the second half of the album, 77 (Part 2), is available now.

Converge - Love is Not Enough CD (Epitaph)

For over three decades, Converge have defined the outer limits of heavy music, shaping hardcore, punk, and metal with unmatched urgency and vision. On Love Is Not Enough, their eleventh album, the band channels decades of creative intensity into a focused and fearless reflection on resilience, connection, and the weight of existence. Recorded and mixed by Kurt Ballou at God City Studios in Salem, Massachusetts, Love Is Not Enough is both a reckoning and renewal - proof that after 35 years together, Converge remain one of the most vital and uncompromising forces in modern music. [Vinyl edition due out 3/13.]

Ward Davis - Here I Am CD (MNRK Music)

With his new album "Here I Am", Ward Davis delivers his most personal and soul-baring work to date, a collection that dives deep into redemption, regret, and resilience. The Arkansas-born singer-songwriter has built his reputation on truth-telling songs that cut to the bone, earning respect across the country landscape. He's shared stages with legends, written for Willie Nelson and Trace Adkins, and carved his own lane in the modern outlaw revival. With a voice that feels lived-in and lyrics that linger long after the song ends, Davis stands at the crossroads of country tradition and personal revelation.

Edgehill - Ode to the Greyhouse LP (Big Loud)

Edgehill appreciate the cracks, the nicks, the bumps, and the bruises. The Nashville, TN trio never sand down or smooth out the edges of their songs. Instead, they find truth in the fissure between fuzzed-out distortion and disarmingly infectious melodies, bringing old-fashioned grit back to alternative. They deliver the kinds of hooks that ruled Alternative Nation during MTV’s golden age, yet could just as easily translate to a generation born and raised on social media. It’s the sound of growing up as amplified through grainy guitar riffs and the kinds of lyrics that give you permission to speak your mind and heart.

Galdive - Blue (Mom + Pop)

Galdive's Blue arrives as a deeply personal and emotionally resonant full-length album from the Indonesian dream-pop duo, capturing a year of reflection, healing, and creative renewal. With serene acoustic textures woven through vintage-inspired production, the record draws influence from 80s classics while staying rooted in the duo's distinct sonic identity. The result is a body of work that feels tender, honest, and transportive, an intimate journey through calm, sorrow, and quiet optimism. Blue balances lush soundscapes with heartfelt songwriting, offering listeners a gentle, immersive world to fall into. [Cobalt color vinyl pressing.]

Momoko Gill - Momoko LP (Strut)

The debut album from the producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Momoko Gill. Fresh from her critically acclaimed collaboration Clay recorded with cult electronic artist Matthew Herbert, Momoko steps forward in her own right for the first time with her remarkable debut solo album. Features contributions from Coby Sey and Alabaster dePlume.

Gogol Bordello - We Mean It, Man! CD/LP (Casa Gogol)

Gogol frontman and spiritual figurehead Eugene Hutz calls their new album the band's "post punk revenge." It's a fitting description. We Mean It, Man! was co-produced by Nick Launay, whose 40+ year run of musical partners reads like the Great Canon of avant-teasing rock: Idles, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Public Image Limited, Gang Of Four, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (he did the one with "Heads Will Roll" on it. Dude is the Quincy Jones of the underground). And Adam "Atom" Greenspan (Nick Cave, Idles, Refused, Amyl and The Sniffers). [Indie exclusive transparent beer color vinyl pressing.]

Danny L Harle - Cerulean CD/LP (XL Recordings)

Danny L Harle's album Cerulean marks his first full-length release on XL Recordings and his most definitive artistic statement to date. Following 2021's immersive Harlecore project, Cerulean is a voyage into vast, alien sonic landscapes where speaker-blowing bass and euphoric trance synths meet intricate textures, from tactile sound design to field recordings of waves. Seeking "the best melodies sung by the best voices," Harle enlisted an exceptional cast of collaborators, including Caroline Polachek, Clairo, Julia Michaels, PinkPantheress, Oklou, and MNEK, balancing dancefloor power with emotional resonance to brilliant effect. Harle's wide-ranging influences - from hedonistic rave to the haunting Dark Souls video game series, Philip Glass's Einstein on the Beach, and Renaissance composers John Dowland, Thomas Tallis, and William Byrd - underpin the album's dazzling, genre (and centuries)-spanning focus. [Indie exclusive Deep Ocean Pearl colored vinyl pressing.]

Hemlocke Springs - The Apple Tree Under the Sea LP (Good Luck Have Fun)

The debut album from breakout alt-pop artist Hemlocke Springs marks an exciting new chapter for the singer/songwriter/producer. This is a fever dream of a concept album in which our heroine sets off on a journey of self-discovery, one that requires her to confront the chaos and repression of her past in order to claim the full, liberatory life she once didn't even know was possible. Throughout the project hemlocke displays her most adventurous songcraft and playful vocals yet, while co-producing the apple tree under the sea with close collaborator BURNS (Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Charli xcx). [Blue & Purple Sunburst vinyl pressing.]

The Lone Bellow - What a Time to be Alive CD/LP (Burly Bellow Music)

On their sixth studio album, The Lone Bellow embarks on a bold new chapter while honoring the deep bonds that have defined their journey. Written collaboratively for the first time with their full touring band, the album channels the raw, ecstatic energy of the band's live show into a dynamic collection of songs that pulse with warmth, honesty, and human connection. Recorded live in Muscle Shoals, AL, after a writing retreat in a converted Kentucky firehouse, the album is both a celebration and a reckoning: of friendship, loss, love, and resilience. From the gritty, Stones-tinged opener "After The Rain" to the soul-stirring closer "What A Time To Be Alive," the record captures the joy and vulnerability that have long defined The Lone Bellow's sound-lush harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, and genre-blurring arrangements steeped in folk, rock, and gospel. [Indie exclusive green vinyl pressing.]

Mariachi El Bronx - Mariachi El Bronx IV CD (ATO Records)

Back with their first album in 11 years. Mariachi El Bronx is a side project of the LA punk band The Bronx that found an entirely new audience for the band. They released their first couple albums back in the day - they taped Tiny Desk Concert, Letterman, Conan and Jay Leno as well as toured arenas with Foo Fighters and The Killers.

Sabine McCalla - Don't Call Me Baby LP (Gar Hole Records)

Sabine McCalla creates her own version of multi-cultural American roots music. It's a sound that crosses borderlines, pulling everything from Brazilian samba to southern soul to British rock & roll into its orbit. On Don't Call Me Baby, Sabine filters those influences through the lens of her Haitian heritage and her music community of New Orleans, creating a debut album that's every bit as multi-faceted as the woman who wrote its songs.

Morgan Myles - Laced CD/LP (Blue Elan)

Studio debut from the soulful country/pop vocalist who first gained popularity after her appearance on NBC's The Voice. Laced was recorded with Grammy-winning producer Ross Hogarth (Van Halen, Ziggy Marley). David Grissom (John Mellencamp, the Allman Brothers Band) served as band leader and guitarist on the project alongside bassist Jorgen Carlsson (Gov't Mule), drummer Jimmy Paxson (Fleetwood Mac), and guitarist and mandolin player Jedd Hughes (Rodney Crowell). Myles co-wrote the entire album with an impressive list of songwriters including David Grissom, Gary Nichols (former lead vocalist of The SteelDrivers, following Chris Stapleton), Brian White (Rodney Atkins, Jason Aldean), Ethan Hulse (Zach Williams, Tauren Wells), Jeff Cohen (Josh Groban, The Band Perry), and Jeff Trott (Sheryl Crow). [White color vinyl pressing.]

The Olympians - In Search of a Revival CD/LP (Daptone)

Thee Olympian, Toby Pazner, returns with In Search of a Revival, a lush bouquet of orchestral soul. A departure from the cosmic, Greco-Roman mythology themes on his debut, Pazner implements a more modern, terrestrial approach, drawing inspiration from his life and the tumultuous pandemicene age we live in. With a team of world class musicians expertly weaving his arrangements into a sonic tapestry, The Olympians deliver an impressively eclectic barrage of cinematic instrumentals. [Indie exclusive sky blue vinyl pressing.]

Queen Naija - 30 LP (Capitol)

Blending sultry R&B grooves with breezy, feel-good energy, 30 leans into the lighter side of love, desire, and letting go. Featuring Mariah the Scientist & Cash Cobain alongside co-executive production by No ID and Poo Bear. 30 showcases the power of a woman owning her story on her own terms. [Limited edition green color vinyl pressing.]

Remember Sports - The Refrigerator LP (Get Better)

Remember Sports have always sounded like a band in motion, chasing a feeling, chasing each other, sometimes running from themselves. Their new album captures the messy, cathartic energy of transformation. Written in the fallout of the pandemic, the record is shaped by grief, uncertainty, and a deep love for music and friendship. Songs wrestle with identity, memory, and growing up, balancing bratty catharsis with tenderness and reflection. For the first time, the band produced the album themselves, leaning fully into intuition and trust as they experimented with new textures and dynamics. The result is a vivid, emotionally charged document of survival, an album about becoming, about holding space for both joy and loss, and about finding your way back to yourself through sound, care, and connection. [Indie exclusive cream color vinyl pressing.]

Robber Robber - Wild Guess LP (Fire Talk)

Robber Robber’s debut album feels more like an exercise in tension and release than an indie record. For all of its nods to its post-punk predecessors and the eclectic Burlington, VT music scene that fed into it, the album feels more like an attempt to translate imagery into sound, communicating all the shades of light and dark you could visualize – and it’s better for that reason. Everything is driven by sheer curiosity and loose, if any, creative parameters, the band says. A person’s twenties is guaranteed to be a tumultuous time in their life anyway, regardless of who they are or what they do, but the members of Robber Robber found themselves in a world that’s maybe never been more chaotic or difficult to move through. It’s a chaos that’s evident in what they create, even if it’s only the obstacle they’re reacting to.

Stereolab - Cloud Land / Flashes in the Afternoon 7" (Warp)

Following the release of Stereolab's latest album, Instant Holograms On Metal Film and 7" release Fed Up With Your Job / Constant And Uniform Movement Unknown, the groop return with Cloud Land / Flashes In The Afternoon.

Lauded for his albums released under the names Here We Go Magic and Art Feynman, Luke Temple brings his signature off-kilter grooves and melodies to his new project Luke Temple and the Cascading Moms, where you can hear influences from the likes of Dire Straits and The Velvet Underground, with a touch of jazz sensibility.

Tiana Major9 - November Scorpio CD/LP (+1 Records)

Born in East London to Jamaican parents, 28 year old Tiana Major9 was immersed in music from an early age, influenced by jazz, praise and worship, and the neo-soul sounds of Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill. Their journey into music saw debut releases establishing their soulful voice as one of the UK's most enticing, featuring with Stormzy, Bryson Tiller, Smino and Unknown T, support slots with Victoria Monet, Jazmine Sullivan and Adele as well as a Grammy nomination for "Collide" from the Queen & Slim soundtrack. Tiana's debut album is a rich tapestry of love, loss, and growth, recorded in LA, the UK, and Jamaica, filled with luxurious melodies, featherlight floating production and raw, grounded storytelling. As a queer Black femme artist, Tiana reclaims the term "diva" on the project, embracing it with pride in the spirit of icons like Beyoncé and Whitney Houston, and approaches this next chapter with a focus on classic artistry, longevity, and self-expression. [Translucent red vinyl pressing.]

Jeff Buckley - Live at Sin-é 2xCD/4xLP (Sony Legacy)

In a cramped club on the lower east side of Manhattan, armed with only an electric guitar, Jeff Buckley stunned audiences with his mysterious, emotionally uncompromising live sets, packed with eclectic covers and his own originals. The four-track Live at Sin-e EP, released in 1993 was his debut release for Columbia Records; here it's expanded in a deluxe hard-shell slipcase housing four individually designed LP jackets (or as a 2 CD set) and an eight-page, full color booklet of photos and liner notes. The set includes live versions of favorites like "Grace", "Last Goodbye" and Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."

Dolorian - When All the Laughter Has Gone CD/LP (Peaceville)

Cult Finnish blackened doom band Dolorian formed in Oulu in 1997 & released three influential studio albums between 1999 & 2006, along with an additional split 7” with Swedish extreme metal masters Shining in 2003. ‘When All The Laughter Has Gone’ was Dolorian’s debut album, originally released in 1999. Throughout its duration, the trio conjure a series of sublime & hypnotic, sombre & ethereal soundscapes. The oppressive yet enchanting atmospheres from the synths twist amid walls of punishing guitars & sparse melodies to evoke an unmistakable sense of impending & resonating dread & despair.

Stan Getz - Stan Getz and the Oscar Peterson Trio LP (Verve)

Originally released in 1958 on Verve Records, this recording documents a rare meeting between two contrasting but complementary jazz greats: the cool-toned tenor saxophonist Stan Getz and the hard-driving Oscar Peterson Trio. Produced by Norman Granz and recorded in Hollywood in October 1957, the session finds Getz joining a veteran rhythm section already regarded as one of the most cohesive in jazz: Peterson on piano, Herb Ellis on guitar, and Ray Brown on bass. While Getz was often heard in more subdued or orchestrated contexts during this period, this session highlights his command of bebop language and small-group swing. Peterson's trio, known for its drive and responsiveness, adapts fluidly to Getz's tone and phrasing, yielding a session marked by relaxed interplay, rhythmic clarity, and understated virtuosity. The Verve Vault series is always mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

Sachi Hayasaka - Free Fight LP (BBE)

Majesty Crush, are a Detroit based shoegaze band from the 90s but lightyears ahead of their time. They released their first, and only studio album Love 15 on Dali Records, which was a subsidiary label of Warner/Elektra that folded shortly after this album's release. The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Let's Face It LP (Mercury)

After 14 years of being one of the originators of the ska-punk scene, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones released their 1997 breakthrough album, Let's Face It, on Mercury Records. Pot Valiant - Transaudio CD (Numero)

Loitering on the same Berkeley streets that birthed Green Day, Operation Ivy, and Crimpshrine, Pot Valiant (AKA Vagrants) developed their own style of Gilmangaze in the early-'90s. Compiled here are the band's Lookout and Sunny Sindicut 7"s, Transaudio LP, and comp tracks; all on one CD, remastered from the original tapes.

Quicksand - Manic Compression LP (Iodine Recordings)

Formed in New York City in 1990, Quicksand emerged from the hardcore scene with members Walter Schreifels (Gorilla Biscuits), Tom Capone (Beyond), Sergio Vega (Collapse), and Alan Cage (Beyond, Burn). Blending the intensity of hardcore punk with melodic, angular songwriting, they helped pioneer what became known as post-hardcore. Their debut album, Slip (1993), established them as a critical force. In 1995, they released Manic Compression, a tighter, more experimental follow-up that balanced aggression with atmosphere. Songs like “Thorn in My Side” and “Supergenius” showcased sharper production and greater dynamics, cementing their reputation as innovators who bridged hardcore, alternative rock, and metal. [Red vinyl pressing.]

Sonny Rollins - Brass / Trio LP (Verve)

Brass/Trio, released in 1958 on Verve Records, is an unusual two-sided statement from saxophonist Sonny Rollins - pairing a full brass ensemble session on one side with a stripped-down saxophone trio on the other. The first half features Rollins with a brass ensemble arranged and conducted by Ernie Wilkins, recorded in New York in July 1958. The lineup includes trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison, trombonists J.J. Johnson and Jimmy Cleveland, and tuba player Don Butterfield, supported by a rhythm section of pianist Dick Katz, guitarist Rene Thomas, bassist Henry Grimes, and drummer Roy Haynes. The second half was recorded days later in Los Angeles with bassist Henry Grimes and drummer Specs Wright - a pared-down trio setting that emphasizes Rollins' rhythmic command and melodic elasticity. The Verve Vault Series is always mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

[Pink & blue vinyl pressing.]

Velocity Girl - ¡Simpatico! CD/LP (Sub Pop)

Velocity Girl's long out-of-print 1994 sophomore album gets an overdue refresh with a sparkling mastering job and a treasure trove of bonus tracks from the ¡Simpatico! Era. The original album sounds better than ever, and it's complemented by a full album of B-sides and rarities. Velocity Girl formed in 1989 or so at the University of Maryland and combined English-inspired noisy shoegaze fuzz with scrappy US indie rock and classic '60s-style pop songwriting. Following their 1993 full-length debut Copacetic, ¡Simpatico! finds the band moving away from their grittier guitar-based influences and drawing more from synth-heavy acts like New Order. The album was produced by one-time Roxy Music member John Porter, who had produced The Smiths, Billy Bragg, and The Alarm, among others. He was exactly what the band needed: an editor, arranger, and taskmaster. As he mercilessly excised every unnecessarily repeated bar, the band realized they'd gravitated to a sound with cleaner lines, and almost entirely ditched the noisy guitar, no doubt influenced by Porter's presence. Velocity Girl was extremely happy with the results, and ¡Simpatico! came out in June of 1994. [Loser Edition blue & violet vinyl pressing.]

Warren Zevon - The Wind LP (Friday Music)

Clear vinyl reissue of the Grammy winning singer songwriter's final album.

Will Orman
