Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

The Acacia Strain - You Are Safe From God Here CD/LP (Rise Records)

Since the turn of the century, The Acacia Strain have rallied audiences around an ever evolving and earthquaking hybrid of existential metal, cosmic hardcore, airy doom, and snow-covered sludge. Once again, they incite catharsis in its purest form on their thirteenth full-length offering, You Are Safe From God Here via Rise Records. [Limited edition red vinyl pressing.]

The Aces - Gold Star Baby LP (Vector)

In concept, Gold Star Baby is a metaphorical club in every city where if you know... you know. Disco-pop that fills the Pussycat Dolls and Spice Girls shaped holes in our hearts, The Aces narrate the perfect night out, even if it's just a glittery mirage of escapism. A celebration of queerness and pure pop fun, the largely self-produced album isn't just an evolution for the 4-piece, but where they've been headed all along. [Gold vinyl pressing.]

Action/Adventure - Ever After LP (Pure Noise)

Chicago's Action/Adventure returns with Ever After, their second full-length on Pure Noise Records and a powerful step forward both musically and emotionally. Since forming in 2014, the all-BIPOC band has built a reputation for challenging expectations in pop-punk-touring extensively, speaking to underrepresented voices, and earning critical acclaim along the way. Ever After explores the tension between ambition and exhaustion-the quiet moments when you question everything, even as the world asks more of you. As the band describes it: "The stark reality of living your dreams. The shifting goalpost of a fulfilling life. The internal conflict of having people who support you but also depend on you." Featuring the standout track "Big Al Dente," the album is a raw, reflective look at purpose, pressure, and persistence-delivered with the urgency and honesty that defines Action/Adventure. (Indie exclusive mint / red with black splatter vinyl pressing.]

Amadou & Mariam - L'amour à la folie CD/LP (Because Music)

The final album from the Malian duo. It was created entirely while Amadou was still with us, making this release especially meaningful and deeply emotional. Amadou is gone, but the music and voices still resonate, an echo suspended beyond time and space. It is Mariam's wish, after the mourning period, to return to the stage with the new album that the couple composed and recorded together over the past seven years.

Fred Armisen - 100 Sound Effects LP (Drag City)

Fred Armisen, long known as one of the most curious actor/comedian/musician/producer/authors in the business, likes unusual ways of entertaining people. Like this one: 100 Sound Effects is an album that that can be used as a library, an industrial tool for your own entertainment projects, or simply for brain-stimulating deep listening. From basic sounds to more abstract scenarios, 100 Sound Effects is an album like no other!

dance arts center - dance arts center presents LP (Acrophase Records)

Dance arts center is a maximalist, genre-bending music and performance project by Los Angeles-based artist Nicolette Norgaard. Driven by dance music and rooted in storytelling, DAC is where club meets theater, and the performer's soul meets the producer's toolkit. Norgaard's debut release, dance arts center presents, is a concept mixtape styled like a fictional Broadway cast recording, complete with an overture and entr'acte. It explores how we perform within relationships, costume ourselves emotionally, shape-shift for love, and how the show sometimes doesn't end even when the curtain falls. Sonically, it lives in a world of synth-heavy, groove-driven dance music tinged with indie pop sensibilities and thoughtful songwriting.

Dayseeker - Creature in the Black Night CD/LP (Spinefarm)

Formed in Southern California and forged in adversity, Dayseeker have evolved from post-hardcore upstarts into one of the most emotionally resonant and stylistically agile bands in heavy music today. Their songs don't just process grief, heartbreak, and trauma - they transform them into something magnetic, powerful, and ultimately empowering. Produced by Daniel Braunstein (Spiritbox, Silent Planet), Dayseeker's sixth album is their most immersive and intentional record to date - eerie, cinematic, and threaded with a dark emotional current. Fans expecting a sorrowful descent into depression might be surprised - Creature in the Black Night has sharper edges, heavier riffs, and a newfound sense of clarity. [Gray marble vinyl pressing.]

Earl Sweatshirt - Live Laugh Love CD/LP (Warner Records)

The Live Laugh Love campaign is rooted in themes of wellness, growth, and the philosophy behind the album title, Live Laugh Love. While irony is used as a tool for laughter, the sentiment is real. It reflects Earl's current way of life, choosing joy while staying grounded in truth. LLL brings a sense of nostalgia. It reminds us of a time when life felt full of simplicity and genuine connection. But this isn't blind optimism. Blood, guts, and darkness live alongside the joy. LLL holds space for contradiction and chooses love anyway. [Indie exclusive black and orange crush vinyl pressing.]

Brian Eno & Beatie Wolfe - Liminal CD/LP (Verve)

Third collaborative album from Beatie Wolfe and Brian Eno. Liminal stands at the point of convergence between Lateral and Luminal. If Lateral is a kind of landscape painting, a sonic place, Luminal is a dream-like awakening, a feeling space. Liminal, the newest addition, is a hybrid of the two, a strange new land with a human living and feeling it's way through it's mysterious spaces.

fanclubwallet - Living While Dying LP (Lauren Records)

fanclubwallet is the indie rock project of cartoonist-turned-musician Hannah Judge, a longtime champion of Ottawa’s local music scene. Even before making music herself, Hannah was immersed in the community—sharing mix CDs, cold-emailing bands for opening slots, and building friendships wherever she could. In 2020, she began quietly recording demos in her bedroom, and what started as a lo-fi bedroom pop project quickly gained traction, with her breakout track “Car Crash in G Major” racking up over 14 million streams. Since then, Hannah has toured internationally, opening for artists like CHVRCHES, Yot Club, and Dream Ivory, all while staying deeply rooted in the DIY ethos. With her second full-length album “Living While Dying” on the way, Hannah continues to blend infectious songwriting with a genuine love for her community and craft.

Five Finger Death Punch - Best of Volume 2 CD (Better Noise Music)

The follow-up to "Best of Volume 1" from multi-platinum hard rock powerhouse Five Finger Death Punch commemorating the band's 20 year anniversary. The second half of the collection of re-recorded Five Finger Death Punch hits. "Volume 2" includes a brand-new version of "The End" featuring Japan's Babymetal. This release celebrates the band's past while charging full-force into the future.

Jonny Fritz - Debbie Downers CD/LP (Gar Hole Records)

The artist formerly known as Jonny Corndawg returns with a self-funded, independently-conceived project, recorded in Nashville with a group of Music City sidemen. Whether he's skewering his MAGA relatives ("Debbie Downers"), singing about the challenges of working at Walgreens with your roommate ("The Boss"), or sketching the portrait of a divorced father "trying hard to ignore the looks from the earth-tone moms" at the neighborhood playground, Fritz turns the everyday into the anthemic, creating a colorful soundtrack for blue-collar life. He's rested and rebalanced, back in the saddle after a long, voluntary break from the road. This time around, though, he'll be following his own path, not getting derailed by false hopes of pleasing the masses through convention, but rather aiming to please himself and his community of respected musicians. [Indie exclusive gold nugget vinyl.]

Galactic Empire - Cinemetal CD/LP (Pure Noise)

Galactic Empire returns with an epic new chapter in their saga of cinematic metal. Expanding beyond the Star Wars universe that defined their 2023 release Special Edition, the band turns their focus to some of the most iconic scores in film history-Superman, Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, and more-reimagined as thunderous, high-octane instrumental metal anthems. With virtuosic musicianship and a flair for the dramatic, Cinemetal cements Galactic Empire's role as the ultimate bridge between movie fandom and heavy music-delivering a soundtrack fit for heroes, villains, and everything in between. [Indie exclusive red/yellow/blue vinyl pressing.]

C.R. Gillespie - Island of Women LP (sound as language)

The latest album from the Toronto-based experimental/musique concrete producer, stitched together from MIDI-based sampled instruments, electronics, and field recordings from time spent on Mexico's Isla Mujeres. The inspiration for Island of Women comes largely from 70s-80s Italian Minimalist music, a style of ambient-minimalism that has a bit more of a humanistic/organic quality than the rigid NYC Reich/Glass style; more saxophones, field recordings, and synthesized instruments found throughout.

Goldford - Orange Blossoms LP (Many Hats)

Goldford writes soul music rooted in truth. His raw, unvarnished songs - equal parts introspection and catharsis - grapple with heartbreak, healing, and the quiet revelations that come with growth and maturity. Raised in St. Louis and now based in L.A., he spent a decade mired in corporate America before a devastating loss cracked something open. Music, once a distant dream, became a means of survival. "I was more afraid of dying with regret than I was of failing," he says of following his dream at 30. That fear lit a fuse. Since then, Goldford has built a devoted following with his emotionally charged vocals and timeless style. [Orange crush vinyl pressing.]

Green Lung - Woodland Rites CD/LP (Nuclear Blast)

A cult band in every sense of the word, Green Lung emerged from London's heavy rock scene with self-released debut EP Free the Witch (2018). Drawing on a host of peculiarly British musical influences, from doomy hard rock to pastoral prog and psych to the Hammer Horror theatrics of the NWOBHM, the band have swiftly risen to the forefront of the UK metal scene. Lyrically celebrating the folklore, myths and legends of Britain, they conjure the wild and witchy spirit of their forebears for a new generation. [Limited olive green vinyl pressing.]

Hail the Sun - cut. turn. fade. back. CD/LP (Equal Vision Records)

Followup to the California post-hardcore / swancore band's 2023 album Divine Inner Tension. Produced & engineered by Pete Adams and Grammy Winner Johnny Kosich of Beach Noise (Kendrick Lamar), cut. turn. fade. back. truly finds Hail The Sun going the distance, encompassing the complete cycle of life with its four monosyllabic words. An album touching on topics such as military atrocities, humanitarian crises, addiction, lost love and death, the 11 songs presented here capture the cyclical nature of all those things, as well as life itself in general.

Joshua Hedley - All Hat CD/LP (New West Records)

“This album is my pièce de resistance,” says Joshua Hedley of his lively new collection of Western Swing tunes. “It’s all been building up to this moment. I feel like I’m making music I love more than any other style.” Produced by Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel—Hedley’s hero since childhood—the album brims with excitement, wit, and verve, as Hedley expertly navigates the tricky dance rhythms of this jazzy style of twang. All Hat doesn’t try to update the style, because Hedley understands that it doesn’t need any kind of modernizing. It can sound as immediate and urgent and just plain fun now as it ever did. And he hopes folks will get up and dance. [Indie exclusive Texas Sky Blue vinyl with autographed cover and indie exclusive autographed CD!]

Hide - Spit or Swallow Every Soul Will Taste Death LP+7" (Get Better Records)

HIDE are an electronic duo from Chicago combining elements of noise, sound collage and performance art since 2014. They have released 3 albums on Dais Records, a 7" on Sub-Pop and an EP on Joyful Noise. HIDE also produces short films and visual art.

Brian Jackson - EP One 2xLP (BBE)

Take Brian Jackson and Gil Scott-Heron’s iconic track “The Bottle”, add a sublime vocal performance from UK soul legend Omar, and put it in the hands of house music pioneers Masters At Work—and you get a version that’s both timeless and urgent, filled with joy, fire, and social consciousness, and built for the dancefloor. Driven by Masters At Work’s signature attention to detail, and elevated by the caliber of the musicians and vocalists involved, this reimagining of “The Bottle” evolved into something truly epic. In fact, the final mix turned out too long to fit on Brian Jackson’s upcoming 3LP album, Now More Than Ever—but everyone agreed: fans had to hear it in its full glory. So here it is, released exactly as intended on this twin 12″ vinyl and digital EP.

Hannah Jadagu - Describe CD/LP (Sub Pop)

On Describe, Hannah Jadagu learns the hard way that distance is relative. After her 2023 debut album Aperture garnered glowing praise from outlets like The New York Times and NPR, Jadagu's blossoming career took her away from her blossoming relationship in New York. Her expansive second album sees her grappling with that separation, finding connections that extend beyond the physical and strengthening her own voice in the process. Describe reverberates with that tension, between wanting connection and craving space. But that distance also pushed Jadagu to explore new dimensions of her sound, particularly through experimenting with analog synthesizers and drum machines. Working with producer Sora Lopez at his studio in Altadena and remotely on a few songs with Aperture co-producer and collaborator Max Baby out of Paris, Jadagu carved out a sound on Describe that is both distinctively hers and a total departure from the distorted guitar melodies of her debut. [First-run 'Loser Edition' pink vinyl pressing.]

Natalie Jane - The world i didn't want CD/LP (10K Projects)

Natalie Jane is rewriting pop's rules. With emotionally visceral lyrics and a seismic voice to match, the singer-songwriter is one of the most intriguing powerhouses of pop's new generation. As Natalie Jane's star continues to ascend, she strives to maintain her sentimental connections with fans worldwide while staying true to her authentic vulnerability. [Clear vinyl pressing.]

Josie - A Life on Sweets Alone LP (K Records)

The debut album from the Danish pop group delivers a raw and infectious mix of jangle, wistfulness and attitude. Josie blends poetic yet relatable lyrics with a rough-edged pop-punk sensibility. Fans of Talulah Gosh, Shop Assistants, and Tiger Trap will feel right at home in Josie's world, where dreamy melodies and jangly guitars meet woozy vocals but retain the genres original punky "f*** you"-energy and propulsive rhythm section.

Joyer - On the Other End of the Line... CD/LP/cassette (Winspear)

For Joyer, the east coast indie rock duo of brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan, distance has been a strange throughline as of late-distance from home, distance from each other, distance from a stable routine. Produced by Slow Pulp's Henry Stoehr, their latest LP, On the Other End of the Line..., ruminates on how their respective experiences relocating cities and an increasingly hectic tour schedule uncovered both their anxieties and a burning desire for connection. It's a hopeful reflection of two distinct perspectives on fluctuating backdrops and the pressures of creativity, filtered through hook-y earnestness and crunchy six-string bluster. Itching to dial back their shoegaze leanings in favor of folkier touches and less conventional, more ambitious arrangements On the Other End of the Line... is Joyer at their most vulnerable, leaning less on imagery and abstractions and cracking the door to their bursting insides. [Electric Smoke color vinyl pressing.]

Just Mustard - We Were Just Here CD/LP (Partisan Records)

Just Mustard are a 5-piece band from Dundalk, Ireland. Their third studio album is an exploration of reconnection and the pursuit of happiness; through escapism, induced euphoria and love. Musically both violent and ecstatic, the lyrics find characters committed to happiness over everything - including happiness itself. While their second record, Heart Under, found the band suffocating and underwater, this album finds them soaring and discovering the intense rush of emotion again. [Indie exclusive purple vinyl pressing.]

Alexandra Kay - Second Wind CD/LP (BMG)

Alexandra Kay (who starred in Netflix's series Westside) holds the rare and extraordinary ability to genuinely connect with audiences by just being her authentic true self via heartfelt melodies. Cementing herself as a force to be reckoned with in the industry, the bright and tenacious rising star dropped her debut album, All I've Ever Known, in 2023. Now, signed to BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville Alexandra wrapped a milestone 2024 complete with a headlining tour, an opening slot on Jelly Roll's Beautifully Broken Arena Tour where she was taken under his wing, and was featured on the acclaimed Twisters movie soundtrack. Ready to take 2025 to the next level, the captivating songstress's sophomore album, Second Wind, features the starry-eyed romance of "The Last" and the contagiously catchy sing-along "Cupid's a Cowgirl." [Neon pink vinyl pressing.]

The Lemonheads - Love Chant CD/LP (Fire Records)

After years of writing, wandering, and starting over, Evan Dando returns with Love Chant, the first Lemonheads studio album of original material in nearly two decades. Long in the works and shaped by shifting geographies and a cast of trusted collaborators, it's a bold, melodic reaffirmation of one of alternative rock's most distinctive voices. Now based in Brazil, where much of the album was recorded, Dando's relocation in recent years has offered a quiet shift in perspective - a chance to reset, reconnect, and finally bring these songs into focus. The result is a record that sounds both fresh and familiar: rooted in the hallmarks of The Lemonheads' best work, yet expanded by years of lived experience and new surroundings. [Indie exclusive yellow vinyl pressing.]

Machine Girl - Psycho Warrior (MG Ultra X) (Future Classics)

Machine Girl have always operated as an inimitable & inventive sonic phenomenon. The newly trio'd-Matt Stephenson, Sean Kelly, and Lucy Caputi-fortify a punk exoskeleton with electronic alchemy & cinematic ambition. Rave, metal, punk, & pummeling electronic collide & splinter like shrapnel into kaleidoscopic blasts of vibrant color & visceral sound. After amassing millions of fans & inciting critical acclaim, the band continue to elevate on their seventh full-length LP, Psycho Warrior (MG Ultra X).

Mammoth - The End LP (BMG)

The third studio album from Grammy Award-nominated songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Wolfgang Van Halen's Mammoth. The album (produced by longtime collaborator Michael "Elvis" Baskette) marks a new chapter in Mammoth's musical evolution while continuing to highlight Wolfgang's signature guitar- shredding sound and melodic vocals. Wolfgang's talent is magnified once again as he performs all instruments and vocals on the album. [Orange and red vinyl pressing.]

Joelton Mayfield - Crowd Pleaser CD/LP (Bloodshot Records)

Crowd Pleaser, the stunning debut album from Texas-raised, Nashville-based songwriter Joelton Mayfield, is the result of nearly a decade of work and reflection. Written and recorded in the wake of personal heartbreak and years of questioning faith, the album captures Mayfield's journey from small-town Texas church music director to an emerging voice in indie rock and alt-country. Mayfield draws from the tradition of incisive Southern storytellers and country-rock bands unafraid to push boundaries. His songs wrestle with the hypocrisies of his upbringing, the unraveling of old beliefs, and unexpected moments of clarity. From the layered apocalyptic energy of album opener "Red Beam" to the quietly devastating hymn "Jacob Dreamed a Staircase," Crowd Pleaser introduces Joelton Mayfield as a songwriter unafraid to confront the most difficult lessons he's learned in his life and turn them into these songs meant to be shared like communion. [Red vinyl pressing.]

Miguel - Caos CD/LP (RCA)

The arc and accolades of his first four albums established Miguel as a rare force: a global pioneer whose sound and vision defied labels. And now he's back with a story to tell, of the violence and beauty that occurs within the self, during internal change. Miguel continues to chart a course that is personal, uncompromising and politically resonant, as the project acts as a tender mirror confronting the dysfunctional power structures that persist in plain sight, Caos builds on that foundation with the conviction that rebuilding requires destruction, transmuting years of grief, desire, love, and identity into a vulnerable, uncompromising tour de force.

Oruã- Slacker LP (K Records)

Oruã is led by critically-acclaimed guitarist and producer Lê Almeida along with long-time collaborators João Casaes (synths), Bigu Medine (bass) and Ana Zumpano (drums). Together, they blend lo-fi indie rock, psychedelica, noise, afrobeat, and Brazilian references that range from Luiz Gonzaga's primal Pernambuco sound to classic Brazilian psych rock. In 2019 they were discovered by indie rock legend Doug Martsch of Built to Spill, which led to him inviting Lê and João to become temporary members of the 90's indie rock band. Later they recorded, co-produced, and co-mixed Built to Spill's most recent album, When the Wind Forgets Your Name, released in 2022 on Sub Pop Records. After touring extensively with Built to Spill and showcasing their high-energy shows in the US and Europe, Oruã returned to Seattle and recorded their new album Slacker with Jim Roth, who also plays guitar, synth and percussion on the recordings.

Zeena Parkins - Redshifts CD (Relative Pitch Records)

Redshifts marks the debut collaboration between artists Zeena Parkins and Cecilia Lopez. Recorded in January 2025, the album features a striking interplay between two singular instruments: Parkins’ self-invented electric harp and Lopez’s RED—a large-scale, handwoven electronic instrument made from speaker wire. This collection of pieces captures a vivid sonic dialogue between Parkins’ masterful, expressive performance and López’s sculptural approach to sound and instrument design.

Pollyanna - Weirdo LP (I Surrender Records)

Pollyanna are a four-piece New Jersey band—Jill Beckett (vocals/guitar), Daniel McCool (drums), Brandon Bolton (bass), and Jack Rose (guitar)—blending elements of loud rock, pop and punk into an emotional roller coaster of fury and catharsis. Marsha Ambrosius and Stacy Barthe provide smooth, soulful hooks, adding emotional layers to the hard-edged verses. [Tri-color red/yellow/black vinyl pressing. Also available as a standard black vinyl LP.]

Sigrid - There's Always More That I Could Say CD/LP (Island)

Norwegian pop powerhouse Sigrid returns with There's Always More That I Could Say, an "accidental breakup album" that moves from dizzy infatuation to heartbreak and reflection with joy, honesty, and her signature soaring vocals and sky-high choruses. Written and co-produced with a renewed sense of creative freedom, it's her most instinctive and emotionally nuanced record yet. Sigrid knows her voice, her heart, and how to turn life's chaos into a pop anthem. [Clear vinyl pressing.]

Soyuz - Krok CD (Mr Bongo)

Fourth album from the Belarusian jazz act. Though primarily recorded in Brazil, Krok is not a Brazilian or MPB album. It blends the band's Eastern European roots with jazz, folk and global influences. The genre of the music is hardly identifiable: there are folk ballads and jazz-driven pop compositions covered in lush and often dissonant string and woodwind arrangements where each note is placed with care and meaning behind it.

Speed - All My Angels CD/LP/cassette (Flatspot Records)

Speed's latest project, All My Angels, is a three-track EP that reflects on the passing of three close friends in recent years. Those events brought intense heartbreak to their community, but over time, they’ve magnified what Speed have always held as their central ethos: To love unconditionally, without fear or regret. [Clear smoke vinyl pressing.]

Tortoise - Touch CD/LP (Nonesuch)

With Touch, the Tortoise bandmembers - Jeff Parker, Dan Bitney, Douglas McCombs, John Herndon, and John McEntire - harness their collectivist songwriting approach, a slightly anarchistic but resolutely egalitarian process where ideas triumph over ego towards an abstracted muscularity. While there are still excursions into the dusky, elegantly gnarled jazz ambience that flourished on landmark works like Millions Now Living Will Never Die and TNT, Touch is perhaps most remarkable for Tortoise's unapologetic embrace of grand gesture. Aerodynamically re-engineered Krautrock, hand-cranked techno rave-ups, and pointillist spaghetti western fanfares are all imbued with Tortoise's now-signature internal logic - equally alluring and confounding, a puzzle to be savored rather than solved.

TWS - TWS 4th mini album [COMPACT version] CD (Pledis Entertainment)

Known for their refreshing charm and lovable personalities, TWS (Shinyu, Dohoon, Youngjae, Hanjin, Jihoon, & Kyungmin) are back with their 4th Mini Album 'play hard' - available in a COMPACT Version, specific to each member and an additional group version. [Red & white vinyl pressing with etched D-side.]

Chet Baker - Live in Bologna 1985 CD (Diggers Factory)

Two years before the legendary trumpeter mysteriously fell from the window of a Dutch hotel, he delivered this high-level live performance on a stage in Bologna, Italy, in 1985. Accompanied by Philippe Catherine on guitar and Jean-Louis Rassinfosse on double bass, Baker drew on his natural charm, that utterly disarming magnetism which made him deeply moving, even when decline was looming. Baker carried within him that inner fracture, that haunting depth that rendered every note fragile. [Vinyl edition due November 7th.]

Danna and Clément - A Gradual Awakening LP (We Are Busy Bodies)

Reissue of the 1983 album from Mychael Danna & Tim Clément. "We hauled heavy modular synthesizers, tape decks, and various equipment deep into Ontario’s wilderness. The natural outdoor sounds woven into the album were recorded at my cabin, where I was living off the grid on a 100-acre patch of forest—no overhead electrical lines, just trees and tape decks. A Gradual Awakening grew out of a slow, quiet process, shaped by the places we lived, the tools we had, and a shared instinct to follow the music wherever it led. It was created over time—layer by layer, season by season—and in close connection with our surroundings." - Tim Clément
