Hitting The Racks
Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's
New Releases
All Time Low - Everyone's Talking! CD/LP (Photo Finish Records)
The tenth studio album from the multi-platinum Maryland pop punk quartet All Time Low (Alex Gaskarth, Jack Barakat, Rian Dawson and Zack Merrick), known for their anthemic, inimitable sound and fiercely loyal fanbase. Released via their own imprint, Basement Noise Records, in partnership with Photo Finish Records. [Available as a white vinyl pressing and an indie exclusive white with green splatter pressing.]
Ashnikko - Smoochies CD/LP (Rhino)
Multi-platinum selling artist Ashnikko makes their hotly anticipated return with Smoochies. Equal parts sexy, playful, and feminine, Smoochies toes the line between the grotesque and the absurd. Moving past the pressures of viral fame, Ashnikko fully embraces their maximalist pop persona, blending club, country and hip-hop influences. It's their most personal and collaborative work, trading fantasy worlds for autobiographical themes through the lens of the "Smoochie Girl”: a messy, chaotic and authentic figure who rejects beauty standards and the male gaze in favour of personal autonomy and joyful whimsy. [Indie exclusive white vinyl pressing.]
Bar Italia - Some Like It Hot CD/LP (Matador)
The new album from London three-piece Bar Italia pulses with romance, intrigue, self-discovery and rapture over lustful rockers, spellbinding folk pop, and punch-drunk ballads. The record is the culmination of the joint inner world of Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton - three singer-songwriters who have transcended their underground roots to embrace a bold, widescreen horizon. The synergy of this three-way blunt rotation is embedded in the trio's DNA. Cristante brings a studied actors' sensibility to vocals ranging from honeyed ('Marble Arch') to hell-bent and possessed ('rooster'). Fehmi ranges from airy, brooding baritone ('Lioness') to mic-chewing megaphone histrionics ('omni shambles'). Fenton, a wispy tenor, can veer between mystical melodicism and soaring blue-eyed soul within the same 8 bars ('Plastered'). These are songs that twist their quirks into huge choruses, playing with self-identity, emotion and performance until the lines blur. [Indie exclusive turquoise vinyl pressing.]
The Barr Brothers - Let It Hiss CD/LP (Secret City Records)
In the eight years since Montreal’s The Barr Brothers last released a full-length album, life pulled them in new directions - personally and professionally - altering the way they make music together. Their fourth studio album, Let it Hiss, isn’t just a new collection of songs. It’s a document of transformation. The making of this record marked a pivotal shift: a pause for reflection, a reckoning with vulnerability, and a reconnection between the two brothers who’ve spent over three decades making music side by side. “In 2022, we found ourselves at a breaking point,” says Brad Barr, the band’s guitarist, vocalist, and primary songwriter. “It was clear something had to change. The real story of this record is the story of that change and everything that came after.” “Let it Hiss is what happened when we stopped pretending everything was fine and finally listened to what was actually going on”, says Andrew. [Indie exclusive dark purple vinyl pressing.]
The Bats - Corner Coming Up CD (Flying Nun)
The 11th full-length from New Zealand indie rock royals, The Bats. Since their inception in Christchurch in 1982, The Bats' music has earned a devoted following around the world, and they remain one of New Zealand's most cherished and enduring exports. Biohazard - Divided We Fall CD/LP (Frontiers Records)
Brooklyn hardcore legends BIOHAZARD return with their first studio album in over a decade and a triumphant reunion of the band's classic original lineup. The result is a crushing and timely collection of tracks that strike hard and speak louder than ever. Produced by Matt Hyde (Slayer, Hatebreed, Deftones), Divided We Fall captures the raw intensity that defined Biohazard's early years while confronting the fractured realities of modern life. Their unmistakable blend of hardcore, metal, and urban groove hits with renewed purpose - a sonic call to arms for unity in chaos. [Indie exclusive orange vinyl pressing.]
Blawan - SickElixir - CD/LP (XL Recordings)
Blawan’s new album SickElixir is a comprehensive realisation of the sound that he’s been pursuing. Growing up in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, electronic producer Blawan (real name Jamie Roberts) was obsessed with playing the drums, locking himself away for hours on end into an insular world of permanent percussion. When he was 14, he started working in a maggot farm and he credits the clanging sound of the farm’s industrial mincer as an influence on the way his music sounds – you can hear the echoes of rattling machinery in the fierce, meticulous drum programming that’s become his signature. Blawan emerged as a solo artist at the turn of the 2010s and has received widespread critical acclaim for his personal projects, while also forging a career as one half of live techno act Karenn and the metal-inspired band Persher, both formed in partnership with his close collaborator Pariah. SickElixir cements his position as one of Britain’s most unique, pioneering artists, operating firmly in a lane of his own but in the same creative league as artists such as Aphex Twin and Bjork.
Nicki Bluhm - Rancho Deluxe LP (Little Sur)
Full of independent spirit, Nicki Bluhm's Rancho Deluxe is a homemade gem of a record. The record features 10 songs that are some of Nicki's strongest songs to date, rooted in resilience, relaxation, and the relationships she's built with like-minded musicians. "This is a harvest record," Bluhm says proudly. "It's a collection of the fruits of my labor. I've taken all these life lessons and experiences, and I've learned from them. She couldn't be any less interested in the rat race of the music industry these days. Instead, she's doubling down on what - and who - she really loves.
Bob Moses - Blink LP (Bob Moses)
Bob Moses returns with their highly anticipated fifth studio album, BLINK - a profound exploration of reconciling the past with the present. Created in a form of isolation, the album highlights the duo's mastery of liminal spaces, where they draw inspiration from the gray areas between rock and dance, light and dark, rhythm and reflection. Built on a foundation of atmospheric keyboard riffs, hypnotic drum loops, and introspective lyrics, BLINK poses a poignant question: "How do you reconcile the desire to live a meaningful life with the realization that it can vanish in an instant?" [Indie exclusive clear with red & black splatter vinyl pressing.]
Brogeal - Tuesday Paper Club CD/LP (Play It Again Sam)
From the small Scottish town of Falkirk, folk-punk-indie-pop five-piece Brògeal have earned a rep as one of Britain's best live bands, igniting mosh-pit madness across the UK and Ireland. They thrum at the centre of a robust, Celtic folk revival that is connecting crowds to a traditional spirit of positive defiance in an ever-polarising and negative era. Recorded on the Isle of Lewis, their debut album, Tuesday Paper Club, blends romance, loss, nostalgia and mischief. Their music is a bubbling cultural cauldron - featuring accordion, banjo, bouzouki, mandolin, and penny whistle - where ancient folk tradition meets indie Gen Z spirit; laughing, singing and dancing through the 21st-century darkness.
Alison Brown & Steve Martin - Safe Sensible and Sane CD/LP (Compass)
The debut collaborative album from Alison Brown and Steve Martin, Safe, Sensible and Sane, is a collection inspired by a shared fascination with the unique beauty of the banjo. After achieving a No. 1 hit with the first tune they ever wrote together ("Foggy Morning Breaking," from Brown's 2023 LP On Banjo), the two GRAMMY-winning musicians started dreaming up a batch of banjo-centered songs built on Brown's daringly innovative melodies and Martin's quirky yet profoundly tender lyrics. Safe, Sensible and Sane is the result of their ongoing partnership. They are joined on the project by numerous musical luminaries, including Jackson Browne, Jason Mraz, Indigo Girls, Aoife O'Donovan, Vince Gill, Tim O'Brien, Della Mae, and others. While supplies last, all our copies are signed by Alison and Steve.
Mariel Buckley - Strange Trip Ahead LP (Birthday Cake Media)

With "Strange Trip Ahead" she lives between the Americana songwriter world and the confessional indie rock songwriter space. Produced by Nashville-based alt-Americana producer, Jarrad K (Ruston Kelly, Lucie Silvas, Fancy Hagood, Goo Goo Dolls).

To deliver a sequel worthy of the original, Ghostface used some tracks that were recorded decades ago but saved for the right moment. For example, "Windows" and the single "Metaphysics" are described as "gems that Ghost has kept in the vault for decades".
Good Flying Birds - Talulah's Tape LP/cassette (Carpark Records)
Good Flying Birds is a jangly, noisy guitar-pop group from the Midwest, USA. The project began in December 2023 with a string of 4-track cassette recordings and stop-motion videos uploaded to YouTube under the name "Talulah God," accompanied by a chaotic, GIF-filled website. In January 2025, Talulah's Tape was released on Rotten Apple, compiling home recordings from 2020-2024. It showcased a wide-ranging love for independent guitar music, clever songwriting, and a charmingly scrappy, twee-punk aesthetic. GFB have shared stages and basements with like-minded janglers such as Sharp Pins, Answering Machines, Wishy, Pardoner, Horsegirl, and Chronophage, helping spark a renewed flame for scrappy guitar music. Their sound nods to lo-fi icons like Guided By Voices, Beat Happening, DLIMC, Talulah Gosh, and The Vaselines, but carries a singular, earnest charm. It's the sound of wide-eyed optimism in a cracked world-rosy cheeks, a tambourine in hand, and guitars ringing in all directions.
Henry J. Star - The Soft Apocalypse LP (Acrophase Records)
The debut of Henry J. Star was born of an anabolism of sincerity, intention, and a wide scope of musical and non-musical interests, ranging from but not limited to cloud rap, Japanese adventure games, and southern literature. The album was entirely written, produced, and performed by multi-instrumentalist Devin Badgett, who is no stranger to performing and writing for his previous projects (Briston Maroney/mercury/Vanosdale). The Soft Apocalypse is a story for the end of the world at the end of the world & an acknowledgement of the overwhelming beauty & unbearable violence that propels the Anthropocene onwards. A detailed account of the pessimist and optimist barreling inwards towards a cataclysmic evolution.

The third full-length from the experimental hip-hop duo. Manifesting superhuman force through near-magic sonic alchemy, Ho99o9 consistently break free from any and all creative constraints. The duo, theOGM and Yeti Bones, co-mingle genres like chemicals, mixing gloriously hellish hip-hop, basement-born hardcore, future-facing punk, throat-slitting metal, jarring industrial, and off-kilter electronica into a concoction meant to combust the moment you press play or when they hit the stage. As such, the group has quietly haunted the darkest corners of the culture, peeking out with a series of unanimously acclaimed releases, A-list collaborations, and sold-out tours.

Pulsing, visceral and full of color, her work is deeply immersive, marked by a wonderful sense of restraint and an almost hallucinatory clarity. Jensen sets new parameters for this new album, placing the acoustic sound of the cello at the fore, and affecting the sound only through a few effects (octave displacement, delay, tremolo and looping).

The Last Dinner Party - From the Pyre LP/cassette (Island)
The Last Dinner Party on their new album: "This record is a collection of stories, and the concept of album-as-mythos binds them. 'The Pyre' itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion and light. It feels a little darker, more raw and more earthy, a little metatextual and cheeky in places, like a knowing look reflected back at ourselves. The songs are character driven but still deeply personal, a commonplace life event pushed to pathological extreme. Being ghosted becomes a Western dance with a killer, and heartbreak laughs into the face of the apocalypse. Lyrics invoke rifles, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, and blazing infernos. We found this kind of evocative imagery to be the most honest and truthful way to discuss the way our experiences felt, giving each the emotional weight it deserves." [Indie exclusive 'Inferno' pink colored vinyl pressing.]
Nick León - A Tropical Entropy LP (TraTraTrax)
Miami's son, Nick León, presents his highly anticipated album A Tropical Entropy en su casa, TraTraTrax. Inspired by Joan Didion's novel Miami and his unique energy, as well as altered states of consciousness -- both chemically induced and sleep-deprived -- the album reflects León's personal experience of witnessing life and love fall apart against the backdrop of a crumbling society. Militarie Gun - God Save the Gun CD/LP (Loma Vista)
Militarie Gun's God Save The Gun starts with a confession: "I've been slipping up" frontman Ian Shelton roars. This isn't just a sonically daring swing of a rock album, it's a very human document of being at your worst when you should be on top - an absurdist guide to the intersection of self-destruction and self-belief. "I'm well aware that being this vulnerable turns my personal trauma into a marketing hook for this album," Shelton says. Of Monsters and Men - All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade CD (Skarkali Records)
Of Monsters and Men's fourth album is a collection of stories of how love and pain are woven together. Skullcrusher - And Your Song Is Like a Circle CD/LP (Dirty Hit)
The sophomore album from the Helen Ballentine, also known as the indie-folk / ambient artist Skullcrusher. Recorded piecemeal over a period of years following the release of her 2022 debut, Quiet the Room, And Your Song Is Like a Circle does not capture experience - it gestures toward the imprint of an experience that is uncapturable. While making the album, Ballentine focused deeply on the evaporative nature of creative work: the way ideas can appear and dissipate, leaving only faint traces behind, or the way a voice courses through a fragile point in time. [Indie exclusive copper nugget marble vinyl pressing.]
Todd Snider - High, Lonesome and Then Some CD/LP (Aimless Records)
Imagine you're driving down a rural two-lane road somewhere in the South, and you come upon a little beer joint. You pull over and go inside where there's a band - three guitars, bass and drums and a couple of female backing vocalists - playing some dirt road blues. The mood is loose, the band is tight, and the lead singer has a voice that sounds like he's spent a lot of time traveling up and down dirt roads living and singing the blues. That's the sound of High, Lonesome, and Then Some, Todd Snider's 15th studio album. [Sea blue vinyl pressing.]
Snooper - Worldwide CD (Third Man Records)

Newly inspired by electronic music, the rhythm of Worldwide is unrelenting and mechanistic - capturing the frenzied pace at which Snooper's lives were moving, but allowing for release in Tramel's yelps and Connor Cummins' scuzzy guitar breaks. On his fifth album, Kevin Parker sculpts a collection of wickedly potent club-psych explorations as a vehicle for some of his most direct, brain-wormy songwriting to date, recasting Tame Impala as a kind of future primitive rave act in the process. Deadbeat sounds like the work of an artist with a leveled up mastery and bristles with a revitalized energy for experimentation. 12 songs crafted with a newfound embrace of spontaneity for the renowned perfectionist. How that manifests is a distinct minimalism and crunch to many of the tracks, with a clutch of crucial details, timbres and textures that add an ineffably new dimension to the sound, as well as a richer, more playful vocal range than ever. [Indie exclusive coke bottle clear pressing.]
They Are Gutting a Body of Water - Lotto CD/LP (ATO Records)
Hailed by Stereogum as "the most important band in modern shoegaze," They Are Gutting a Body of Water (TAGABOW) made their name approaching the genre with an experimental edge. LOTTO captures the sound that made the band a prominent force in the American underground. [Red ripple vinyl pressing.]
Venna - Malik LP (Cashmere Thoughts)
After two EPs and an illuminating start to his career, Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Venna releases his debut album, Malik. Not wanting to be rooted in jazz alone, Malik embodies the melting pot of sounds that reflects Venna's environment. Venna's broad range shines bright in his choice of collaborators, including vocalists Jorja Smith, Leon Thomas, MIKE, and Smino, as well as instrumentalists such as Yussef Dayes and Marco Bernardis. It's a beautiful rarity when an artist sees themselves as a vessel of the music, and though Malik is a manifestation of his experiences and how he sees the world and years of craft, Venna wants Malik to be an invitation. An invitation to let go, be present and submit to sensory experiences. [Indie exclusive blue vinyl.]
The World is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die - Dreams of Being Dust CD/LP (Epitaph)
Dreams of Being Dust is the Connecticut band's fifth studio album, and follows up their well-received 2021 album, Illusory Walls which arrived as their "heaviest, proggiest, most audacious release to date" according to Stereogum. If Illusory Walls was their grand reckoning, Dreams of Being Dust is the aftermath: raw, furious, alive. But even amid the chaos, the band's core remains intact - a belief in community, resistance, and making sense of the world through sheer volume and vulnerability. TWIABP have always blurred the lines between hope and despair, and here, that duality feels sharper than ever. Now a decade in, the band deliver a message that sounds less like a eulogy and more like a rallying cry.
Sven Wunder - Daybreak LP (Piano Piano Records)
Daybreak is Sven Wunder's fifth full-length album, seamlessly continuing the progression of his musical oeuvre. Camp Cope - Live at Sydney Opera House LP (Run for Cover)
On October 13, 2023, Melbourne's Camp Cope bid farewell with one final performance in front of a sold-out crowd at the iconic Sydney Opera House Concert Hall. Two years on, this release commemorates this special moment of the band performing together for the last time. The vinyl version of this release features nine songs from the performance, including tracks from each of the band's albums, such as "Lost (Season One)" from their self-titled debut, along with tracks from 2018's How to Socialise Make Friends and their 2022 swan song Running with the Hurricane. The band isn't alone, either - Julia Jacklin joins in on "The Screaming Planet" and a chorus of friends like Rin McArdle and Courtney Hartmann join in to sing-along on "Sing Your Heart Out." Camp Cope fittingly closes this final performance with "The Opener" - a song inspired by the unfortunate experience of being a band trying to fit into a sexist, male-dominated music scene.
Carpathian Full Moon - Serenades in Blood Minor CD/LP (Peaceville)
CD reissue and first ever vinyl release of the cult 1994 album from the enigmatic Norwegian blackened doomsters. Originally released on Avantgarde Music in 1994, the album showcased refined musicianship as well as an eclectic mix of influences, whilst incorporating elements of progressive music into the compositions to give a rich texture throughout (members went on to form the more prog rock based act, Julia Dream). A darkly atmospheric opus which evoked the grandiose nature of black metal, but with a more melodic & often sombre doom core, ‘Serenades In Blood Minor’ saw Carpathian Full Moon sculpting an identity of their own with this release, before eventually splitting up.
John Carpenter - Halloween Trilogy O.S.T. 3xCD/6xLP (Sacred Bones)
John Carpenter's soundtracks for the most recent Halloween trilogy, made alongside his frequent collaborators Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, marked the legendary director and composer's return to film scoring after nearly two decades away. 2018's Halloween, 2021's Halloween Kills, and 2022's Halloween Ends were all directed by David Gordon Green, who engaged Carpenter early in the pre-production process, ultimately enlisting him as both an executive producer and soundtrack composer for the trilogy. Now, for the first time, expanded editions of all three scores are being made available in a deluxe box set by Carpenter's longtime label, Sacred Bones Records. The scores for the new films may be centered on familiar themes, but they're also a lot more sonically diverse and musically audacious than anything John could have pulled off in 1978, when he made the original Halloween. The three scores are also available as individual CD and 2xLP editions.
Citizen - Everybody is Going to Heaven (10th Anniversary) LP (Run for Cover)

It wasn't a record built for easy listens - it was built to last. This 10 Year Anniversary Edition features new, gatefold packaging with updated photos, lyrics and liner notes. Disc one includes the original album in full and the brand new second disc features rare b-side "Nail In Your Hand," a re-done version of "Heaviside" with artist Wisp performing vocals on the song, and seven never-before heard demo versions of songs from Citizen's second album.

The Dream Syndicate - Medicine Show (40th Anniversary) LP (Down There Records)
At the forefront of the Paisley Underground scene, The Dream Syndicate are one of the most revered indie-rock bands of the 1980s. The indie rock darlings became the first Paisley Underground band to sign to a major label, hire a mainstream rock producer, change bass players, and spend months recording the album - after having banged out their previous one, The Days of Wine and Roses, in mere hours. Like many psychologically complex albums, Medicine Show took time to truly settle into listeners’ minds. It’s long overdue, but it has finally arrived.

This time around, their chemistry felt looser and more playful, marked by clever lyricism, engaging storytelling, and an infectious sense of creative freedom. Their verses bounce back and forth with ease, rooted in a shared love of the craft and a mutual instinct for innovation. Each volume of Felt carries its own sonic identity, and Felt 2 thrives on the warmth and versatility of Ant's production. Drawing on classic soul, funk, and West Coast influences, the beats create a vibrant foundation that lets both MCs explore new flows and textures without losing cohesion.

He began recording soon after, scoring a top-ten R&B hit with 'Dust My Broom' on Trumpet. His final recordings were cut for Bobby Robinson's Fire and Enjoy labels in the late '50s and early '60s, with "The Sky is Crying" being his last charting R&B hit before his death in 1963.

The Meters - Live at the Great American Music Hall CD/2xLP (Sing)
Widely hailed as the founding fathers of funk, The Meters laid down the blueprint for groove-heavy music that still echoes through hip-hop, rock, and soul today. With razor-sharp rhythm, swampy New Orleans flavor, and a sound tighter than a snare drum, they turned instrumental jams into seismic statements. The group began as an instrumental quartet, cutting eight studio albums between 1969 and 1977. Although they were never officially captured live on record during that time, in 1981 after the group had split, an obscure label called REG Associates released an LP called At Rozy's which presented a performance supposedly taped at a New Orleans nightclub in December 1976. Recent research, however, reveals that the concert was recorded the previous year at a different venue: San Francisco's prestigious The Great American Music Hall. Newly remastered from the original ¼"master tapes, the performance captures The Meters in their prime, giving the listener a front-row seat to witness up close one of the most dynamic funk and soul bands ever.

Between 2002 and 2009, 4AD released six Mountain Goats albums, the band is still active today and are on their 22nd release. His presence brought focus, and instead of chasing scale, the band explored contrast: dense grooves set against clean vocals, sharp turns softened by space & melody. Tracks like “Tourniquet” & “Phoenix” ease into motion, while “Messenger” hits harder but with restraint. ‘Polaris’ builds tension not by force, but by control. Half-speed remastered at Abbey Road Studios.
Various Artists - The Twisted Wheel - Land of a Thousand Dances LP (Charly)
When Dave Godin from Soul City Records, London, visited the Twisted Wheel in January 1970 he was blown away, mesmerised, by the music, the dancing and the togetherness of the emerging Northern Soul scene. It was unique, not only to the tiny basement club, but to the North. It was something that the swinging capital didn't have and didn't understand. This was Soul and solidarity - the yet-to-be-coined Northern Soul - and it belonged to the North. This compilation celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the "cellar-full-of-soul" years at the famed Whitworth Street location, September 1965 - February 1971. The groundbreaking years that saw the Wheel's playlist move from Blues and R&B to the upbeat sound of young America, or as Blues & Soul journalist Dave Godin put it "the groove up North". It was these pivotal years and these dance tracks that lit the Northern Soul torch.
