Hitting The Racks
Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's
New Releases
John Calvin Abney - Transparent Towns CD/LP (Well Kept Secret)
John Calvin Abney rises again from the Oklahoman prairies with his seventh studio album and his first since 2022's Tourist. Abney penned most of the 10 tracks on Transparent Towns during a period of introspection and convalescence while recovering from vocal cord surgery in 2023. Abney self-produced the record, tracking most of it at Cardinal Song outside of Oklahoma City, with Michael Trepagnier handling mixing and engineering. The band was comprised mostly of Sooner State musicians too, along with Lydia Loveless and John Moreland contributing harmony vocals. Abney's signature vulnerable voice and lyrical handiwork comes through in each of the songs, along with his penchant for alternative pop melodies set against colorful chords and subtle soundscapes.
ALA.NI - Sunshine Music CD/LP (No Format!)
Ten years after 'You & I', which left a mark in France and internationally (with collaborations including Iggy Pop, Lakeith Stanfield, and Jon Batiste), the golden-voiced Londoner returns with a new album blending vintage tones and Caribbean influences. Shaped by a two-year stay in Jamaica, the musician delivers eleven timelessly elegant tracks infused with the laid-back charm of life surrounded by lush nature. Calypso, ragga, bossa, rocksteady... In this new album, ALA.NI allows herself subtle rewritings of the most emblematic Caribbean rhythms, with interpretations that go as far as Brazil. Her crystalline voice dances, with jazz inflections reminiscent of Sade Adu and Minnie Riperton.
Atmosphere - Jestures CD/2xLP (Rhymesayers)
On Jestures, Atmosphere's sprawling new album, Slug digs into the friction of middle-aged domesticity and stability, uncovering the quiet tensions that shape creative life. Long past the belief that great art needs great pain, he challenges the trope that creativity must be born from trauma. Instead, Atmosphere's fifth release of the 2020s reflects a more grounded kind of struggle-one rooted in reflection, routine, and the work of becoming. Slug weaves memory and present-day reality over Ant's richly textured beats, blending electro-glitch, warm twang, and cinematic drones. It's a mosaic of life's overlooked moments-how a partner's habits, a child's quirks, or a passing sound can reveal something new.
Black Lips - Season of the Peach LP (Fire Records)
Black Lips's brand-new studio album is a 40-minute rock and roll odyssey, tripping through DIY genres where garage rock meets new wave pop, and disgruntled country shakes hands with epic western soundtracks. The album is a musical merry-go-round, a journey featuring road-weary tales from the underbelly of a lights-out America. “Tippy Tongue” sees Black Lips take on 60s girl group soul, like The Shangri-Las and Ronettes infiltrated by Jayne/Wayne County, paying homage to Buddha Records. Meanwhile, “Kassandra” has a guitar sound scrubbed clean for a Sunday, chiming its way through ever-spiralling salvos like The Chocolate Watchband with Zappa on vocals.
Johnathan Blake - My Life Matters CD/LP (Blue Note Records)
Drummer Johnathan Blake presents his powerful third Blue Note album My Life Matters, a suite of music that he composed as a commission for The Jazz Gallery that serves as a dual treatise on the importance of family values and the social imperative to stand up in the face of injustice. Produced by Derrick Hodge, the album features Blake with saxophonist Dayne Stephens, vibraphonist Jalen Baker, pianist Fabian Almazan, and bassist Dezron Douglas.
Bones Owens - Best Western CD/LP (Black Ranch Records/Thirty Tigers)
Best Western, the new self-produced album from Bones Owens, showcases the artist at his most restless and unfiltered. Across 15 tracks, Owens expands his signature blend of gritty rock, blues, and alternative influences into darker, more cinematic territory, exploring themes of restlessness, isolation, mortality, and the pull of the open road. Anchored by standout tracks like the brooding "In the Wind," the breakneck "All Time Low," and the aching, confessional ballad "Sunday Fix," Best Western also features the title track with longtime collaborator Yelawolf, a pairing that underscores Owens' instinct for pushing genre lines and defying expectations.
Boo Boos - Young Love CD/LP (Play It Again Sam)
Katie Boo (aka Kate Mattison) was born in a small coal-mining town in Ohio and was raised by the radio before relocating to Brooklyn. The electricity of the city combined with her love of the heartland's soul music and inspired her to start her band, 79.5. Bronco Boo (Mark Everett) began life in a Washington, D. C. hospital and was brought home to live on the wild prairies of the Northern Virginia suburbs. He changed his name to the letter "E" and formed the band EELS before deciding to go back to Bronco in 2025. While listening to KCRW late one night in his adoptive home of Los Angeles, Bronco heard a song by 79.5. This led to a musical dialogue of ideas and songs sent back and forth between Brooklyn and LA. Feeling like they were onto something special, and realizing they were born with the same last name, Boo Boos decided it would be silly not to record these songs. The result is their debut album, Young Love.
Briscoe - Heat of July CD/LP (ATO Records)
"We learned how to write music from behind the wheel," Philip Lupton says, recalling the show-filled schedule that transformed Briscoe from Texas' best-kept secret into a national phenomenon and informed the creation of their new album, 'Heat of July.' "We were on the road so much that we had to become more mobile with the creative process." This necessity inspired a beautifully diverse album full of intimate, raucous and anthemic moments that blur the lines of Americana, rock, folk and country music.
Cardi B - Am I the Drama? CD (Atlantic)
GRAMMY® Award-winning, multi-diamond selling superstar Cardi B releases her sophomore album, Am I the Drama? Marking a bold evolution in her sound and storytelling, the project arrives after her record-breaking debut album Invasion of Privacy - not just aiming to top it but showing how far she's come and how much more she has to say.
Cole Chaney - In the Shadow of the Mountain CD/LP (Ridgeline Records)
With In the Shadow of the Mountain, Cole Chaney steps boldly beyond the bounds of traditional Americana, finding a melodic balance between the grit of '90s rock and the bluegrass and folk music of his native Kentucky. "I wanted to make something that sounded like Ralph Stanley went in and got backed up by Soundgarden," Chaney notes. "I write what I listen to. And whatever I listen to is going to come out in my music." That ethos drives an album that's reverent, rebellious, and uniquely his own. Recorded and produced in Lexington, Kentucky by Duane Lundy and co-producer Zachary Hamilton, In the Shadow of the Mountain captures Chaney's evolution - a boundary-pushing songwriter in search of something new, something different, and yet something so familiar.
Chiodos - All's Well that Ends Well LP (Sumerian Records)
A re-recording of Chiodos' 2005 debut album "All's Well That Ends Well" to celebrate its 20 year anniversary. The band is currently on an a celebratory US headline tour and will be releasing a graphic novel based on the album via Sumerian Comics. [Blue and violet half and half with white splatter vinyl pressing.]
Allie Colleen - Sincerely, Rolling Stone LP (Deko Music)
Following her 2021 album STONES, country artist Allie Colleen returns with her new EP Sincerely, Rolling Stone.
The Divine Comedy - Rainy Sunday Afternoon LP (Harmonia Mundi)
Recorded at Abbey Road in autumn of 2024, Rainy Sunday Afternoon is The Divine Comedy's thirteenth album and their first studio album since 2019's Office Politics. The band's Neil Hannon most recently wrote the original songs for the Warner Bros blockbuster Wonka. Neil says: "My musical output is, for better or worse, a representation of my personality. A good chunk of that personality revels in the rumbumptious; celebrates the silly. I have though, like everyone, a darker, more melancholy side. And for one reason or another it has been much in evidence of late. I needed to use this album as an outlet for those feelings. To work through some stuff. Mortality; memories; relationships; political and social upheaval. Everyone should get to make an orchestral pop album once in a while. It should be available on the NHS." One listen to Rainy Sunday Afternoon will certainly provide a tonic for these turbulent times. Two listens and you'll be addicted. [Dark green vinyl pressing.]
Dylan Earl - Level-Headed Even Smile LP (Gar Hole Records)
Born in Louisiana and naturalized by the Natural State, Dylan Earl seeks to understand himself by understanding others. Earl is a welcome, original voice in the scene, finding favour in mainstream and alternative spaces alike as a loveable, alt-country hippie. His new album charts territory into his formative years discovering Arkansas, the people who showed him the ropes and back roads; and who he hopes to become. Offering poignant nostalgia, history, and a refreshingly progressive approach to country and western music, his newest effort is rife with wry wit, irreverence, and an endearing desire to colour outside the lines. [Indie exclusive turquoise vinyl pressing.]
The Favors - The Dream LP (Interscope)
Longtime friends and collaborators FINNEAS and Ashe - who first captured hearts with their 2019 hit "Moral of the Story" and followed it up with 2021's "Till Forever Falls Apart" - are reuniting under a new name: The Favors. The duo's debut album, The Dream, is a no-rules project that revives the warmth and groove of '70s pop with razor-sharp songwriting, lush harmonies, and a distinctly modern edge.
Halima - Sweet Tooth LP (drink sum wtr)
Halima's debut album Sweet Tooth is a bold declaration of power from an undeniable talent. Seductive, restless, and deeply assured, the record unspools like a night in motion. In the afterglow of her 2024 EP on drink sum wtr, praised by Clash Magazine, The Fader, BBC Radio, and others, the Brooklyn-based, UK/Nigerian musician solidifies her sound and expands it tenfold. If EXU was a spark, Sweet Tooth is the full burn. Not so much genre-less as "genre-full"; the album spans a bright, lush world where club bangers meet deep ballads in a striking, fully-formed hybrid of honeyed Afro-pop and scorched R&B.
Yasmine Hamdan - I Remember I Forget LP (Crammed Discs)
Yasmine Hamdan's latest album is a powerful reflection on memory and identity, blending personal and global themes with evocative storytelling. Building on her previous albums Ya Nass and Al Jamilat, Hamdan draws deeply on her Lebanese roots and global influences. The album explores the tragedies of Lebanon, particularly the 2020 Beirut explosion and the ongoing economic crisis, and transforms these events into universal metaphors for resilience and hope.
El Hardwick - Process of Elimination LP (AD 93)
Process of Elimination, El Hardwick's sophomore's album, explores sickness as a teacher for anti-capitalist modes of being; a rewilding of the self. Out via AD 93, the record is the product of an attempt to be indestructible; this sickness has an unknown diagnosis. El Hardwick's album follows their experience of becoming chronically ill after years of treating their body like a machine. The album features a number of London-based musicians and friends: Alex McKenzie (Gentle Stranger, Shovel Dance Collective, Caroline) on clarinet, flute and saxophone, Laura Misch on saxophone, Marysia Osu (Levitation Orchestra) on harp, Memory Play on co-production, double bass and saw, and Sasha Wilde on vocals. El Hardwick is a multidisciplinary artist living in London, UK. Identifying as trans non-binary, their work weaves narratives between queer world making practices and how listeners can heal on a damaged planet.
Kieran Hebden & William Tyler - 41 Longfield Street Late '80s CD/LP (Temporary Residence)
The debut album from Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) and William Tyler, following their previous EP, Darkness, Darkness (2023). Recorded in Los Angeles and Nashville, USA. Produced and mixed by Kieran Hebden.
I Prevail - Violent Nature CD (Fearless Records)
I Prevail return with their fourth album Violent Nature, marking vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe's first foray as the only singer of the band tackling both clean and harsh vocals. Recorded in two stints at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, it was self-produced under the guidance of bassist and keyboardist Jon Eberhard. Welcome to the new era of I Prevail. Not only is this the most brutal, extreme, and ferocious version of the band to date, but they are bristling with intention, passion, and energy.
Ze Ibarra - Afim LP (Mr Bongo)
The second solo album by one of Brazil's most exciting new talents, Zé Ibarra. You may be familiar with the hypnotic, entrancing tones of Ibarra's vocals through his work with the Latin Grammy award-winning, four-piece, Bala Desejo and the band Dônica. He has also toured with the musical titan, Milton Nascimento, performing guitar and vocals, which is quite the honour and a testament to Ibarra's craft. 'AFIM' is comprised of eight tracks, featuring Zé's own compositions as well as cover versions of tracks by contemporaries and friends, Sophia Chablau, Tom Veloso, and Dora Morelenbaum. It combines elements of MPB, jazz, pop and progressive rock in a bold, authoritative style. The album represents the intersection between different facets of the artist, from the stripped-down, intimate, guitar singer-songwriter, to dense arrangements with sweeping string sections.
Igorrr - Amen CD (Metal Blade)
French multi-instrumentalist and producer Gautier Serre has been operating under the name Igorrr for twenty years now, yet each new record still resounds with a startling freshness and radical vitality. Steadfastly unclassifiable fifth album Amen maintains this impact, blindsiding the listener with a new set of exploratory curveballs and continuing to surprise and unnerve even the most attuned enthusiast.
Ive - Ive SECRET, the 4th EP CD (Starship Ent Monsta)
Ive reveals a new side of themselves in their fourth mini album, Ive SECRET. While keeping their signature confidence, they now show deeper, more unexpected layers. Ive SECRET highlights the hidden feelings beneath their polished image and shows how I've expresses who they are more through presence and attitude than through words. Instead of following a set path, they create their own and continue to grow through it.
Laveda - Love, Darla LP (Bar/None Records)
Originally from Albany, NY, but now an integral part of the Brooklyn indie rock community, duo Ali Genevich and Jake Brooks are known for their Sundays-esque dreampop. On their 3rd full length album and Bar/None debut Laveda has stepped out of their comfort zone and are taking a heavier approach to their rock tendencies. They've looked past their traditional influences and are walking the path paved by bands like Unsane and Sonic Youth.
Los Straitjackets - Somos Los Straitjackets CD/LP (Yep Roc)
America’s favorite masked guitar slingers, Los Straitjackets, are back with Somos Los Straitjackets, their first album of original material in over a decade. Channeling the eternal spirit of surf rock while riding their own unmistakable wave, Somos Los Straitjackets delivers fifteen tracks of twang-drenched riffs. From the sun-scorched intensity of “Polaris” to the funky undertow of “Two Steps Ahead,” Somos Los Straitjackets is a sonic adventure that captures the freedom, danger, and endless horizon of a band at their creative peak. Tracks like “Spinout” and “High Wire Act” demonstrate why Los Straitjackets have reigned as the kings of modern instrumental rock for over thirty years with shimmering tremolo, relentless drum grooves, and hooks so catchy they don’t need lyrics to get stuck in your head. Produced with a vintage touch but packed with fresh intensity, Somos Los Straitjackets is both a love letter to surf rock’s golden era and a bold new ride into uncharted waters. [Indie exclusive Hypnowheel picture disc vinyl pressing.]
Sarah McLachlan - Better Broken CD (Concord Records)
Sarah McLachlan first emerged as a global phenomenon over three decades ago, introducing an unprecedented new voice into the pop canon: soulful, spellbinding, and supremely capable of transforming pain into transcendence. On her first album of new material in 11 years, Better Broken finds the Canadian singer/songwriter widening her creative circle and furthering her legacy with songs that speak an uncompromising but radically illuminating truth about the state of the human condition.
Kendra Morris - Next CD/LP (Karma Chief Records)
With her fourth full-length album of original material, idiosyncratic singer/songwriter Kendra Morris invites you to join her in the DIY kaleidoscope world of Next. Morris's latest record for Karma Chief strips away the veneers of layered production and slick sounds to create an album that may be Kendra at her most authentic, one in which the creative process is vibrant, beautiful, and messy, buoyed by heart and the imperfectly perfect now. Decades of New York sounds and voices bend and blend at the seams of these tracks-a world where the Brill Building and Warhol's Factory thrive on the same block while Blondie and the Frightnrs explore rocksteady sounds. Doo-wop and boom-bap soundtrack a UHF network's worth of cut-and-paste stylings, all the while paced by Morris, an artist equally at home behind the lens as she is in front of a microphone.
Motion City Soundtrack - The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World CD/LP (Epitaph)
After a ten-year absence that left a palpable void in the hearts of millennial emo kids, Motion City Soundtrack are finally back-and yes, it's everything we hoped for. The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World feels like coming home: a dizzying, emotionally articulate blast of guitar-laced pop-punk that reminds us why this band meant so much in the first place. Justin Pierre's voice still wobbles gloriously between a scream and a sigh, only now it carries the weight of experience, not just anxiety. Rather than reinventing themselves, Motion City double down on what they've always done best: big hooks, bigger feelings, and that perfect tightrope walk between chaos and control. [Indie exclusive orange vinyl pressing.]
Nation of Language - Dance Called Memory CD/LP (Sub Pop)
Synthpop, minimal wave, post-punk, goth, new romantic - fans and critics alike have dug deeply into their vintage thesauruses to describe the beguiling work of Nation of Language. And if you can't precisely define the band, that's the point. Frontman Ian Richard Devaney has become prodigious in expanding what synthesizer-driven music can evoke, such that his output is as much an extrasensory journey as it is an all-too-human destination. On Dance Called Memory, the band once again collaborated with friend and Strange Disciple producer Nick Millhiser (LCD Soundsystem, Holy Ghost!). They imbued Dance Called Memory with a shifted palette - sampling chopped-up drum breaks on "I'm Not Ready for the Change" for a touch of Loveless-era My Bloody Valentine, or smashing all of the percussion of "In Another Life" through a synthesizer to cast a shade of early-2000s electronic music. Ultimately, the hope was to weave raw vulnerability and humanity into a synth-heavy album. [Clear with black & blue mix vinyl pressing.]
Newdad - Altar CD/LP (Atlantic)
Altar is the second album from "Ireland's next great guitar band", and the third album from their prolific frontwoman Julie Dawson in less than 2 years. It's a grungey alt-rock future classic that jolts between anger-fueled anthemics on the one hand, and darkly intimate and melancholic introspection on the other. They've built a dedicated cult following with their acclaimed debut Madra and if they're good enough for the godfather of goth they're good enough for you... "I liked the Newdad album, that's been on in my car for a long time" (Robert Smith)
Nine Inch Nails - TRON: Ares CD/2xLP (The Null Corporation)
Nine Inch Nails returns with over 70 minutes of new music for the motion picture TRON: Ares. Featuring singles “As Alive As You Need Me To Be,” “Who Wants to Live Forever” and more. 2xLP pressed on white vinyl with exclusive cover art.
The Pink Stones - Thank the Lord... It's the Pink Stones CD/LP (Normaltown Records)
On their intoxicating new album, Thank the Lord... it's The Pink Stones, Pinkston and his bandmates do precisely that, offering up a joyful, adventurous take on '60s twang that blurs the lines between cosmic country, folk, bluegrass, soul, and psychedelic rock. The result is a record that wears it's influences proudly on it's sleeve, even as it a subverts expectation, a work of poignant longing and playful humor that tips it's cap to everyone from Merle Haggard and Earl Scruggs to Don Williams and The Byrds as it looks both forwards and backwards all at once. [Blue Jean blue vinyl pressing.
pôt-pot - Warsaw 480km LP (Felte Records)
Warsaw 480km is the debut LP from Irish/Portuguese quintet pôt-pot, who infuse the propulsive grooves of krautrock with a phosphorescent psych-rock radiance, all underscored by harmonium drones, hypnotic male-female vocal harmonies, and deep layers of rough-hewn texture. Evolved primarily from demos by multi-instrumentalist and lead vocalist Mark Waldron-Hyden during a period of grief and personal upheaval, the album came to life through a series of live, full-band studio sessions that document an exceptional array of talents, unified in an embrace of raw catharsis with a sweetly sinister edge.
Ripe - Play the Game CD (Glassnote)
Following the critically acclaimed Bright Blues and sold out shows across the country, Ripe are back with their new LP Play The Game produced by the legendary Joe Chiccarelli (The White Stripes, My Morning Jacket, The Front Bottoms). "A highlight of the national festival scene" according to the Boston Globe, the album builds on Ripe's signature sound with soaring melodies, emotional lyrics, and blending driving pop-rock with tight horn arrangements.
Cécile McLorin Salvant - Oh Snap CD/LP (Nonesuch)
Oh Snap is the new album from the McArthur Fellow and 3-time Grammy winning singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Cécile McLorin Salvant. Oh Snap features twelve original songs by Salvant-plus one short "cover" of a verse from the Commodores' 1977 hit "Brick House"-mostly recorded outside of a traditional studio environment. The album features longtime musical collaborators Sullivan Fortner, Yasushi Nakamura, and Kyle Poole, as well as cameos from singers June McDoom and Kate Davis. The album is an eclectic mix of genres from indie to folk to jazz to experimental pop, all anchored by Salvant's otherworldly voice.
SANAM - Sametou Sawtan LP (Constellation)
Sametou Sawtan (Arabic for "I Heard a Voice") is the second full-length album from SANAM, the Beirut-based sextet known for their raw fusion of Arabic song, free improvisation, and experimental rock. Building on the momentum of their 2023 debut, this record is a deeper, more expansive work-where traditional poetry and folk melodies collide with distorted guitars, buzuq drones, and fractured electronics. With its mix of intense live energy and deliberate studio craft, Sametou Sawtan is SANAM's clearest statement yet-an arresting blend of tradition and experimentation grounded in the experience of cultural and personal upheaval.
Scorpion Milk - Slime of the Times LP (Peaceville)
Scorpion Milk is the new project from Mat McNerney; the founding creator of Beastmilk’s highly-revered ‘Climax’ album & the subsequent three Grave Pleasures albums. Infused with elements of Beastmilk’s original DNA, debut album ‘Slime Of The Times’ marks the most direct, raw & explosive evolution of his self-defined genre: Apocalyptic Post-Punk. An eclectic artist in his own right, McNerney’s roots are also firmly in the black metal underground of Finland & Norway. He continues to work in that genre (having formerly featured as vocalist for Dødheimsgard, among others), and is also currently active with his band, Hexvessel.
Joan Shelley - Real Warmth CD/LP (No Quarter)
Joan Shelley follows her critically-acclaimed 2022 album The Spur with Real Warmth. Her 7th album, recorded in Toronto with producer Ben Whiteley (The Weather Station), the 13-tracks feature many guests from the city's fertile music scene (Tamara Lindenman, Doug Paisley). Shelley has toured the world with Richard Thompson, Patty Griffin, Wilco and others. She has played Lincoln Center, Newport Folk Festival, appeared on the covers of both Acoustic Guitar Magazine and Fretboard Journal and as a guest on WTF with Marc Maron and Fresh Air.
Soulkeeper - Join Us in Creating Excellence LP (Pure Noise)
The new EP from the Minneapolis metalcore band demonstrates how the chemistry between the members has only gotten better since their album Holy Design, resulting in music that’s more confident, more chaotic, more weird, more wild, more experimental—and yet, somehow more cohesive and complete than ever.
Jr. Thomas - Jr. Thomas in the Eraserhood LP (Deepmatter)
Best known for his work in Jr. Thomas & The Volcanos, Minnesota singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jr. Thomas returns with a collaboration that pays homage to the golden era of soul music. Teaming up with Philadelphia production duo Maxwell Perla & Vincent John - AKA Eraserhood Sound - he's proud to present his new album 'Jr. Thomas in the Eraserhood' 'Jr. Thomas in the Eraserhood' came together through the magic of collaboration, and Thomas' drive to find the perfect musicians and studio combination to fulfill his vision. An authentic, analog-focused take on soul music, it pays respect to the genre whilst joining a growing movement that seeks to bring the uplifting energy of the music to a new generation of listeners.
Total Wife - come back down cassette (Julia's War/Winspear)
Come Back Down, the new album by Nashville experimental-pop duo Total Wife, was born from the edge of sleep. When composer and producer Luna Kupper would begin to fall asleep during late-night mixing sessions, the songs would follow her into the halfway place between dream and lucidity. Like Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks, she'd wake with a new perspective on the puzzle she was piecing together. And like a spiral from waking life into dream, the songs on Come Back Down are endlessly self-referential, building whole universes from a single point. Kupper sold all of her synths to make rent before she started working on the album, and so every inorganic sound is instead built from samples of the band’s own work. A guitar on one song may be reprocessed and used as a synth on the next, while everywhere on the album vocal samples are taken from a single unreleased cover of Elliott Smith’s “Between the Bars.” The intention was to create something complex but accessible; experimental, yet precise and without abstraction.
Kristina Train - County Line CD/LP (Blue Elan Records)
The elegant Kristina Train has a voice for the ages — and a resume to match. Hand-picked by Herbie Hancock to join his band, being on Bruce Springsteen’s permanent playlist, and collaborating with Dr. Dre are just a few of the highlights. The Savannah-bred, Nashville-based singer started at Blue Note Records as the last artist signed by Arif Mardin, paving her own trail between Americana, country, jazz and pop. Her latest album is a collection that includes stunning originals, a flipside remake of Cher’s iconic anthem, “Believe,” and a trio of reinvented country classics by Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson—now sung from a strong-woman perspective in Train’s raw-edge alto, which steeps each nostalgic phrase in the emotional immediacy of 2025.
Wednesday - Bleeds CD/LP (Dead Oceans)
Bleeds is not only the best Wednesday record-it's also the most Wednesday record, a patchwork-style triumph of literary allusions and outlaw grit, of place-based poetry and hair-raising noise. Karly Hartzman-founder, frontwoman, and primary lyricist-credits Wednesday's tightened grasp on their own identity to time spent collaborating on previous albums, plus a tour schedule that's been both rewarding and relentless. "Bleeds is the spiritual successor to Rat Saw God, and I think the quintessential 'Wednesday Creek Rock' album," Hartzman said, articulating satisfaction with the ways her band has sharpened it's trademark sound, how they've refined the formula that makes them one of the most interesting rock bands of their generation. "This is what Wednesday songs are supposed to sound like," she said. "We've devoted a lot of our lives to figuring this out-and I feel like we did." [Eco-mix colored vinyl pressing. While supplies last, all CD and vinyl copies are signed by frontperson Karly Hartzman! In-store purchase only. No holds.]
Wicca Phase Springs Eternal - Mossy Oak Shadow LP (Run for Cover)
For over a decade the singer, songwriter and producer Adam Andrzejewski has used the WPSE moniker as a wide creative umbrella, under which he's made a vast body of work that's as consistently compelling as it is constantly changing. This deft ability to blend sounds and styles has become his calling card, but no matter the genre signifiers-from rap beats, to new wave synths, to goth atmospherics-the beating heart of WPSE is Andrzejewski's singular voice and esoteric-yet-emotional lyricism. Those key elements have centered the project through musical explorations, and now on his latest full-length, Mossy Oak Shadow, Andrzejewski really puts them to the test. Shedding thumping 808s and intricate production in favor of a no-frills band and sparse live recording, the album is a stirring collection of hazy folk rock songs that prove Wicca Phase Springs Eternal can truly be anything. ['Ponds of Romance' color vinyl pressing.]
Saul Williams with Carlos Niño & Friends - Saul Williams meets Carlos Niño & Friends at Treepeople CD/2xLP (International Anthem)
Land Back! An unadulterated opening statement intoned by Saul Williams three times, as he joins Carlos Niño & Friends in sound ceremony underneath black oak and walnut trees in Coldwater Canyon Park, Los Angeles, on December 18, 2024. The performance, which was organized by Noah Klein of Living Earth on the grounds of longstanding conservationist organization TreePeople, was the first of its kind for longtime friends and collaborators Williams and Niño. The two have been in contact since 1997 and have worked on a variety of projects together, but had never been moved to present in this way. For the occasion, Niño assembled and directed an ensemble of frequent collaborators including Nate Mercereau (Guitar Synthesizer, Live Sampling with Midi Guitar, Sample Sources), Aaron Shaw (Flute, Soprano Saxophone with Pedals, Tenor Saxophone), Andres Renteria (Bells, Congas, Egyptian Rattle Drum, Hand Drums, Percussion), Maia (Flute, Vibraphone, Voice), Francesca Heart (Computer, Conch Shell, Sound Design), and Kamasi Washington (Tenor Saxophone). [Forest Green color vinyl pressing.]
Yächtley Crëw - Seas the Night CD (Earache Records)

Buckingham Nicks - Buckingham Nicks CD/LP (Rhino)
The legendary debut studio album from Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham. Buckingham Nicks is the only studio album by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks as a duo, prior to them joining Fleetwood Mac. Recorded at Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and produced by Keith Olsen, the album introduced Nicks and Buckingham’s tightly wound harmonies and sharply contrasting songwriting voices across 10 tracks—ranging from the folk-rock shimmer of “Crystal” to the sunbaked strut of “Don’t Let Me Down Again.” Originally released in 1973 and unavailable for decades, the album has been sourced from the original analog master tapes for its long-awaited return to vinyl. [Available in pink, blue, and Rhino Hi Fi black vinyl pressings.]
Harold Budd - Avalon Sutra 2LP+CD (Darla Records)
Remastered from the original DAT master by Harold Budd's right hand man in the studio for 30 years, award winning Sound Engineer Bradford Ellis, this new edition of Avalon Sutra has all the dynamic range, as well as a few minor digital artifacts, of the original DAT master. At the time of release in 2005 Avalon Sutra was reported to be California-born American minimalist composer and pianist Harold Budd’s last recorded work. Avalon Sutra (released as a 2 disc set) is a suite of short, heartbreaking ambient pieces, featuring Budd’s delicate piano improvisations, lush string arrangements and warm electronic drones. The second disc (As Long As I Can Hold My Breath) features a startling coda by LA based electronic composer Akira Rabelais, sending Budd’s arrangements into Feldmanesque eternities of sound.
Ray Charles - Ingredients in a Recipe for Soul CD/LP (Tangerine Records)
Ingredients In A Recipe For Soul proved that Ray Charles didn't so much ignore genres, but, by the '60s, had become a genre unto himself. An academic might want to separate this stack of songs into neat little buckets-country, jazz, standards, blues, pop-but those are just the ingredients. Ray Charles sings whatever he likes and whatever he sings comes out as a Ray Charles song, with a flavor all it's own. Two hit singles, "Busted" and "That Lucky Old Sun," made Ingredients In A Recipe For Soul an instant Top Ten when it was released in 1963. Bootlegged across Europe for decades, this is the first and only legitimate reissue of this essential album on vinyl (and its first appearance on CD since the 1990s), now fully restored and remastered with the full cooperation of the Ray Charles Foundation. Clouds - The Clouds Scrapbook CD/LP (Chrysalis)
Released in 1969, Clouds' debut The Clouds Scrapbook showcases the band's distinctive organ-driven sound, which was a precursor to the styles of later prog-rock icons like Emerson, Lake & Palmer and Yes. Billy Ritchie, the band's organist, was particularly influential, being one of the first to take a prominent, standing role as a keyboardist, setting a precedent for future musicians in the genre. The album received critical acclaim upon release, with Melody Maker naming it "Album of the Month" in September 1969. Despite its initial success, the band struggled with commercial recognition, and their innovative approach was not widely appreciated at the time. However, in hindsight, Scrapbook is regarded as a pioneering work that laid the groundwork for the progressive rock movement.
The Cowsills - The Cocaine Drain Album CD (Omnivore Recordings)
Their storied 1978 album produced by Chuck Plotkin (Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan) makes its "official" debut. The Cowsills' story is now one of legend. From their beginnings as a pop-vocal group (and the inspiration for The Partridge Family), to their emergence as alt-rock/Americana heroes, there's always a surprise in there. In 1978, the band began recording demos with Chuck Plotkin, after an introduction from Jackson Browne, and eventually moved into studios to record a full album. In addition to Bob Cowsill originals, the band recorded songs by John Hall (Orleans), future Grammy-winner Wendy Waldman, and "Buzz" Feiten. It was all going smoothly until Plotkin moved on to mix Bruce Springsteen's Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Future multiple Grammy-winner Val Garay (Kim Carnes, James Taylor, The Motels) stepped in to sequence and master the recordings, yet, an expected major-label deal never materialized. Finally, The "Cocaine Drain" Album ("named" after Hall's composition) sees a proper release. Garay's original sequence sits next to five bonus recordings.
The Descendents - Milo Goes to College CD/LP/cassette (Org Music)
One of the seminal works from the genre to become known as pop punk, the Descendents' Milo Goes to College arrived in the year 1982 as most of the members of the band were just finishing high school. They began by writing catchy, hummable melodies about girls, parents, and food, among other things. Despite their unabashedly juvenile lyrical approach, they played with a blistering intensity rivaling any of the bands in the burgeoning hardcore crowd that they fell in with. This winning formula has carried the group for decades, as their influence has inspired countless followers (some becoming far more famous) in their wake. Now, 43 years later, Descendents are reclaiming and reissuing the album that started it all. [Available on gray marble vinyl and as a "Punk Note" edition with alternate artwork.]
Disturbed - Ten Thousand Fists 2xLP (Reprise)
Disturbed's third studio album was released in September 2005. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 and it has since been certified 3 x Platinum by the RIAA. The album features the hit single "Stricken", one of the band's most popular songs. Other singles released from the album include "Just Stop", "Guarded" and the Genesis cover "Land of Confusion". To celebrate the Ten Thousand Fists 20th Anniversary, this limited edition is being pressed on Yellow Flame vinyl.
Chris Farlowe - 14 Things to Think About LP (Immediate)
To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the legendary Immediate Records, 14 Things To Think About - the powerful 1966 debut by British R&B icon Chris Farlowe - is being reissued, honouring both his legacy and the label's lasting influence. 14 Things To Think About is widely regarded as one of the finest Beat, Mod, R&B, and Soul albums of the era. It showcases Farlowe's distinctive husky voice and unique phrasing - a style that stood out in the competitive British R&B scene. From bluesy grit to soul-drenched ballads, this reissue captures the raw emotion and musical craftsmanship that made Farlowe a pillar of the mod and soul scenes.
Glo-Worm - Glimmer LP (K Records)
Glo-worm produce chiming pop music of a non-bouncing variety that sounds pure, forlorn and unencumbered. Glo-Worm are at the heart of the '90s East Coast independent pop music scene that brought us Slumberland Records, Velocity Girl, Versus and chickfactor magazine. Glimmer brings all the various glo-worm 45s together under one roof. It's a real charmer, and now available for the first time as a long playing (LP) phonograph record. Besides Glo-Worm's breathtakingly beautiful original songs, Glimmer has four fun covers done in their own inimitable style: Petula Clark "Downtown," Bobby Darin "Beyond The Sea," Velocity Girl "Crazy Town," The Cure "Friday I'm in Love." Released by K in 1996.
Heavenly - Operation Heavenly LP (Skep Wax)
The final 90s album from the UK-based twee pop / indie rock band, featuring frontperson and guitarist Amelia Fletcher. For most members of the band it’s the best album. But, tragically, the album's release in 1996 was overshadowed by the sudden death of drummer Mathew Fletcher. The promotional tour was cancelled, the surviving members of the band went into emotional hibernation and no-one could bring themselves to celebrate these vibrant, upbeat songs. So, this release by Skep Wax Records, nearly thirty years on, is more like an album launch than a re-issue. Time has healed most wounds, and the songs on Operation Heavenly feel like they can finally emerge onto the stage. These tracks are gleeful, melodic, sophisticated and knowing. The tough riot grrrl edge that Heavenly had developed a year before with seminal singles P.U.N.K. Girl and Atta Girl, has been blended with a deliberate quantity of Britpop styling.

The cult classic returns - freshly remastered and pressed to high-quality 180g vinyl for the first time in decades. Originally released in 1974, Pinball marked the debut of actor-turned-singer-songwriter Brian Protheroe. Fusing baroque pop, soft rock, and the wry introspection of early '70s singer-songwriters, the album earned critical acclaim and cult devotion, largely on the strength of it's title track - the haunting, theatrical ballad 'Pinball' - a UK Top 30 hit that remains one of the decade's most singular singles.

Skylar Spence - Prom King 10 Year Anniversary 2xLP (Carpark Records)
When Ryan DeRobertis changed his project name from Saint Pepsi to Skylar Spence, it marked not only a rebrand but also a shift toward faster tempos and cleaner production. While Saint Pepsi was rooted in sample-heavy reinterpretations of disco and new wave, Skylar Spence sees DeRobertis embracing those aesthetics through his own production and vocals. Unlike his previous beat tape–style releases, Prom King is tight and cohesive. Its range of influences—new wave, UK garage, boogie—are unified by bright guitar lines and intricate vocal sampling. Prom King, his debut under the new name, is a focused, danceable record tailored for a full-band live setup. 10th anniversary reissue is pressed on yellow vinyl and includes bonus tracks.
Various Artists - Soul Jazz presents LATIN FIRE! Cumbia-Salsa-Afro Funk: Tropical Dance Music from Discos Fuentes, Colombia 1956-83 CD/2xLP (Soul Jazz Records)
Soul Jazz Records delve into the vast vaults of Discos Fuentes, one of the oldest and largest record companies in Latin America, known as ‘the Motown of Colombia’. Discos Fuentes played a major role in spreading Afro-Latin sounds both to Colombia and around the world and this album explores that legacy. Latin Fire! features legendary Colombian artists such as Fruko, The Latin Brothers, Michi Sarmiento, Afrosound, Pedro Laza, Wganda Kenya and more and showcases the wide-ranging variety of styles that Discos Fuentes made unique to their sound. The album features music from the golden era of Fuentes; from late 50s and 1960s Cumbia through to the emergence of heavyweight and hardcore salsa and Afro-funk in the 1970s and up to the early 1980s. Discos Fuentes pioneered the sound of ‘Tropical’ music – Afro-Colombian dance music that originated in the north coast of Colombia bringing it to a new worldwide audience. This album shows how Colombian music was also influenced by New York barrio-style hard Latin and salsa and Caribbean styles such as soka and zouk to create a truly unique dance music sound.
