Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Gracie Abrams - Daughter from Hell CD/2xLP (Interscope)

The highly anticipated third studio album from the singer-songwriter. Produced by Abrams, Dan Nigro, and Aaron Dessner, with additional production from Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. [Indie exclusive cobalt blue vinyl pressing.]

As It Is - As It Is LP (Frontiers Records)

The fifth studio album from the British-American rock band and their first since 2022. [Indie exclusive clear vinyl pressing.]

Helado Tropical - Helado Tropical CD/LP (Psychic Hotline)

The debut album from the collaborative project of Helado Negro and Reyna Tropical. When the two artists first met in the studio, what emerged was immediate. Rather than easing into collaboration, the two found themselves propelled forward by it – building songs in real time, responding to each other’s instincts without over-explaining them. There was no rigid division of roles. One would begin an idea, the other would answer. A melody would suggest a rhythm; a rhythm would reshape a lyric. Built from guitars, drum machines, and synthesizers, the album resists clean categorization. It lives somewhere between ambient and rhythmic, intimate and expansive; essentially, a sonic language of its own making, shaped as much by feeling as by form.

Darryl Jenifer - The Weather Channel LP (Org Music)

The Weather Channel is the new instrumental album from Bad Brains bassist Darryl Jenifer. It follows his 2010 solo debut, In Search of Black Judas. The record features a venerable lineup of heavy-hitters from the jazz world, including the likes of John Medeski, Ben Perowsky, Jack DeJohnette, and Karl Berger, among others. The tracklist includes nine new compositions, as well as new interpretations of two Bad Brains classics. [Red vinyl pressing.]

Leap - Entropy LP (Epitaph)

There's a magnetic push-and-pull at the heart of Entropy: big, anthemic alt-rock hooks wrapped around lyrics that don't shy away from life's messier moments. Frontman Jacky Scott leads the charge with a voice that can pivot from raw confession to fist-in-the-air release, turning heavy themes into something unexpectedly uplifting. At its core, Entropy feels like a shared experience: songs built for singalongs, release, and connection. [White vinyl pressing.]

Left to Die - Initium Mortis CD (Relapse)

From the mind of gore metal pioneer Matt Harvey, Left to Die pays homage to Chuck Schuldiner's revolutionary metal band, Death. Initium Mortis sees the Death-inspired supergroup, including original Death members Terry Butler (Obituary) and Rick Rozz (Massacre), joining Harvey (Exhumed, Gruesome) and Gus Rios (Gruesome) to capture Death's deep, die-hard-only catalog. Featuring tracks like Arcangel, Witch of Hell, and Legion of Doom expertly executed in the now, Initium Mortis is a must-have for Death fans and collectors alike.

Loathe - A Stranger to You CD/2xLP (Sharptone Records)

Liverpool metal quartet Loathe return with A Stranger To You, a fourteen-track opus six years in the making. Spanning progressive metal, shoegaze, psychedelia, and electronic ambiance, the album weaves personal milestones into their most sonically ambitious work yet. A front-to-back listening experience that cements their place among heavy music's most vital acts. [Turquoise & white marble vinyl pressing.]

The Menzingers - Everything I Ever Saw CD/LP (Epitaph)

Everything I Ever Saw finds the Menzingers entering a new era in what's already been a storied career. Produced by frequent collaborator Will Yip, the Philadelphia punk legends' eighth album chronicles moments of significant personal, political, and universal change, while returning to the core creative principles that first put them on the map with listeners the world over. Twenty years in, the Menzingers have discovered that the wisdom gained with time's passing is even stronger than the emotional armor they once wore in their youth, and Everything I Ever Saw captures the quartet embracing the here and now while strengthening the bonds that have held them together. [Indie exclusive green & black vinyl pressing.]

Motionless in White - Decades CD (Roadrunner)

Motionless In White returns with their highly anticipated 7th album Decades, which features singles "Afraid of the Dark," "Playing God (ft. Corey Taylor)", and "R.I.P (ft. Skylar Grey)," as well as a cover of the classic "Sunglasses At Night."

Tracey Nelson - Hercules CD/LP (K Records)

Debut album from the Trouabdour of Trouble Songs, originally self released on CD-R. They’d be talking blues if he wasn’t talking so plain. Tracey Nelson is his mother’s name. He carries it with him wherever he goes. Featuring MJ Lenderman, Karly Hartzman, Colin Miller, Ethan Baechtold, Xandy Chelmis, Landon George, and Jack Kraus.

Nia Archives - Emotional Junglist CD/LP (Island)

Nia Archives returns with Emotional Junglist, an album about love, but not just the shimmering romantic parts. Marking her biggest sonic leap to date, her alt-jungle sound honed alongside James Ford (Arctic Monkey's, Blur), Ethan P. Flynn (FKA Twigs, David Byrne) and Julia Michaels (Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter), sees her flirt with everything from dewy-eyed indie pop to nineties electronica, underscored by the syncopated beats and thudding basslines of her jungle roots, with features from Jorja Smith and Sampha. [Indie exclusive black & white marble vinyl pressing.]

Olivia O'Brien - Pixie CD/2xLP (Gamma)

Sophomore album from the American singer-songwriter, following her 2019 album Was It Even Real? and independently released EPs. [Iridescent gold vinyl pressing with etched D side.]

Orquesta Akokan - AMÉRICA! LP (Daptone)

Recorded live to tape at Penrose Recorders by Gabriel Roth, AMÉRICA! Expands on the classic Mambo sounds that the band has become known for - blending Latin soul, boogaloo and salsa - all while staying true to their Cuban roots. On their fourth studio record, the band introduces an all-star line-up of new singers including Mariam Elhajli and Carolina Oliveros (of Combo Chimbita). Elhajli and Oliveros both tap into the raw energy of Celia and La Lupe, but turn the lens toward something more intimate: themes of loss, upheaval, and the weight of the immigrant experience.

Pearl & the Oysters - Monkey Mind LP (Stones Throw)

The new album from the French-American duo, produced by Jonathan Rado (Weyes Blood, Father John Misty, The Lemon Twigs). Though sunny on the surface, the album was written and recorded in the wake of the devastating LA fires of 2025 and Trump's second inauguration. Monkey Mind is named after the Buddhist concept of a restless, looping consciousness - the duo drew on their own "monkey minds" to write the album in a matter of weeks, using music as way to process their worry. The result is looser and more grounded in the present moment than anything they've done before. [Mint green vinyl pressing.]

Quicksand - Bring On the Psychics LP (Equal Vision)

The legendary post hardcore band's first new album in 5 years. Produced by Jon Markson (Story So Far, Drug Church, Drain). ["Coffee Swirl" brown marble vinyl pressing.]

Some Velvet Sidewalk - Critters Encore LP (K Records)

Critters in the suburbs, the rabbits, the crow, earthworm, and squirrel. The "pummeling pop machine with an unrelenting artlessness" is back. Critters Encore. Cool Media, fuzzy media, Marshall McLuhan hitches a ride on Roy Orbison's motorbike. Frantic, anxious catharsis guitars teetering on oblivion and a voice that still haunts upon waking all the while touching earth. "Love-rock" revolution meets cross species connection in our modern state of play.

Max Subar - Anything Could Be CD/LP (Merge)

Debut album from the Chicago singer-songwriter and member of alternative country band Case Oats. His brother, Sam Subar, played drums. Further instrumentation was provided by Case Oats bandmates Spencer Tweedy (drums on "I Never" and "Way Up"), Jason Ashworth (upright bass), and Scott Daniel (violin), as well as frequent collaborators Chet Zenor (electric guitar), Kelly Hannemann (piano), and Sarah Weddle (vibraphone, organ, and electric piano). The arrangements that took shape are generous and illuminative, giving flesh to the bones of Anything Could Be's live guitar and vocal takes without sacrificing their spontaneity.

Swapmeet - Mount Zero LP (Winspear)

A sweeping, guitar-driven road trip that recalls and reinvigorates the slowcore and alt rock of the 90s and early aughts, the debut LP from Swapmeet, marks the moment the Australian four-piece come into their own. Mingling airy sweetness with jagged surrealism, Mount Zero transmutes so many of the regrets and uncertainties of young adulthood into a burgeoning, newfound confidence. As they've done since their earliest days as a band, Swapmeet traded instruments throughout Mount Zero and shared production duties as a foursome, developing their sound by layering dozens (sometimes hundreds) of tracks within each song, then carefully removing elements until the production took a clear shape.

Tricky - Different When It's Silent CD (False Idols)

The 15th album from the legendary artist and producer. Different When It's Silent is a direct, focused record that reconnects with the distinctive sonic language that has defined Tricky's work since his groundbreaking 1995 debut, Maxinquaye. Features contributions from Mitch Sanders, Radana, and Marta.

Jack White - Frozen Charlotte cassette (Third Man)

Released last week on CD and vinyl, now available on cassette. The 7th studio album from Jack White shows the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer at his best, backed by an incredible band (Patrick Keeler on drums, Dominic Davis on bass, Bobby Emmett on keys) whose collective hand is scorching hot after coming off a tour of universally-acclaimed performances. Recorded in White's Third Man Studio in Nashville, this album shows Jack carrying on the same raucous, raw, and frenetic energy from his lauded 2024 album, No Name. 13 tracks of distinct feel and tone, Frozen Charlotte is an intense rock and roll punch with never-far-behind blues underpinnings... all of which fits right at home with long time fans while leaving an inviting open door to newcomers alike.

The Action - Rolled Gold CD (Think Like a Key)

The definitive edition of The Action's celebrated 1967-1968 demo recordings, the sessions that bridged their George Martin-produced mod-soul singles and their evolution into Mighty Baby. After five Parlophone singles that earned universal critical praise and zero chart success, The Action shed their mod-soul roots and began writing original material steeped in The Byrds and West Coast psychedelia, with Coltrane's modal jazz creeping into the arrangements. Long out of print on CD and newly remastered by Prof. Stoned from the best available sources.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - In the Hot Seat 2xCD (BMG)

Released in 1994, In the Hot Seat was the final studio album from Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Created during a challenging period for the band, the record leans into concise songwriting while retaining flashes of the technical ambition that defined their earlier work. This expanded edition presents the 2017 remastered album with improved clarity and dynamic balance, sharpening the production and giving greater presence to the rhythm section and layered keyboards. The second disc expands the release with bonus material from the era, including additional mixes and session recordings, offering a fuller picture of the band's final studio phase.

Hot Chip - The Warning CD/2xLP (Domino)

Rewind to the year 2006 when British music was enthralled with guitar bands in winklepickers and waistcoats. And then along came Hot Chip's album The Warning, like a kaleidoscopic bolt from the blue that turned a generation of indie fans onto the hedonistic pleasure of repetitive beats. The Warning was a ahead of the zeitgeist, spending 17 weeks in the UK charts and earning a Mercury Prize nomination thanks to tracks like 'Over & Over' and 'Boy From School'. Inspired by the sounds coming out of New York in the mid-2000s but even more indebted to the London club underground, the album was characterized by ambitious genre blends and a statement of intent.

Hot Chip - Made in the Dark CD/2xLP (Domino)

In 2008, Hot Chip released Made In The Dark, a wild pop record that refused to sit still. The album rose to #4 in the UK charts with single 'Ready For The Floor' breaking into the UK Top Ten and earning a Grammy nomination. While their previous efforts were effectively bedroom studio albums, Hot Chip wanted to capture the chemistry of their live show in the recording sessions. Despite being originally signed to a major label, the band had an unprecedented level of autonomy. "We were excited by the idea of doing something strange and vibrant," says Joe Goddard. "This record was a lot about freedom to experiment and make whatever kind of take on pop music that we wanted to make,"

Hot Chip - One Life Stand CD/2xLP (Domino)

By 2010's One Life Stand, Hot Chip had evolved. There'd been collaborations with legends like Peter Gabriel and Robert Wyatt, various solo albums and side projects, and, personally, settling down. Their songwriting had always been emotionally resonant, but on their fourth studio album it took on a newfound maturity, with themes of domesticity and devotion. The result was One Life Stand, Hot Chip's most concise album to date: 10 songs that put melody front and center. It's clearer and more direct, while outside collaborators infused the sessions with a new energy, fueled by anthems like 'I Feel Better' and the eponymous single 'One Life Stand'.

J Geils Band - "Live" Full House LP (Rhino)

Recorded over two nights in April 1972 at Detroit's Cinderella Ballroom, "Live" Full House captures The J. Geils Band playing full tilt in its second home. Released later that year, "Live" Full House became the band's first Top 40 album. In new liner notes, the band's singer, Peter Wolf, calls the album one of his favorites. "What you hear is the true, raw, unfiltered sound of The J. Geils Band, performing what we did every night."

Yoko Ono - Season of Glass LP (Secretly Canadian)

Reissue of the experimental art-pop artist's 1981 album, originally released just seven months after the senseless murder of Ono's husband and creative partner, John Lennon. Full of songs about love, loss, anger and fear, the album reflected Ono's experience in stark detail, creating almost a companion piece to Ono and Lennon's 1970 Plastic Ono Band "primal scream" albums. Backed by the same band that had played on Double Fantasy, the sound of Season of Glass sits in alignment next to that album, which at the time was already considered an artistic triumph for Ono. Back in print on vinyl for the first time in over forty-five years.

Baden Powell - Poema on Guitar LP (MPS)

Poema on Guitar captures Brazilian maestro Baden Powell at a moment of profound artistic focus. Recorded in Villingen, Germany following his celebrated appearance at the Berlin Jazz Days in 1967, the album was produced by his close collaborator Joachim E. Berendt. Far from a mere display of technical prowess, the record unfolds as a deeply poetic meditation on rhythm and melody, blending the sensuality of Bossa Nova, the rhythmic intensity of Samba, and the melodic qualities of European Baroque.

Various Artists - Roots of Rap 1922-1973 2xCD (Fremeaux Heritage)

Rap was born with the art of speaking, and its Caribbean and U.S. roots were recorded right from the beginning of the 20th century: inflamed utterances, impassioned preaching, negro spirituals, folk, and slam poets on the downbeat. But the amazing recordings included herein first and foremost show how quadrille callers morphed into DJs hosting dancefloors at the mike, laying the fundamentals of hip hop culture. Bruno Blum comments on more aspects of the roots of rap, such as radio DJs, talking blues, and jazz.

Various Artists - Treasure Isle Ska LP (Charly)

This specially curated collection brings together the most treasured ska hits produced by the legendary Jamaican label owner Arthur "Duke" Reid. Jamaica was blessed at the time with a surfeit of great musicians, some who had learned their craft in the jazz and dance bands that played in the island's upmarket resorts, whilst others had come up through the ranks of the Alpha Boys School band. It is from this world that ska bubbled up, and left Duke Reid in poll position to make some of not just the finest, but also the most exciting ska records of the era.

Uncle Tupelo - Anodyne LP (Rhino)

Rhino High Fidelity reissue. Released in October 1993, Anodyne was the fourth and final album by alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo. Cut live in the studio in Austin, Texas, the record moves from the driving energy of "Chickamauga" and "The Long Cut" into "Anodyne" and "Acuff-Rose," where fiddle and pedal steel add a flash of Cosmic American color. The album ended UT's short-but-remarkable run, with the breakup soon giving rise to two new bands: Wilco and Son Volt.

The Waterboys - Atlantic Rain: The Lost Fisherman's Blues Recordings 3xCD/3xLP (Chrysalis)

The Waterboys 'Fisherman's Blues' album sessions have been revisited for a brand new 3CD and 3LP Vinyl box set featuring previously unreleased recordings. Almost 400 multi-track tape reels, totalling 150 hours of music, were recorded during the Waterboys' famous Fisherman's Blues sessions of 1986-88. Among these were 80 tapes with no song titles, just rough notes like "jam" or "unknown." In 2024 band leader Mike Scott went through most of these, listening to them for the first time since they were recorded, and discovering in the process dozens of tracks the band had forgotten about; lost recordings, some improvised on the spot, others painstakingly worked on, that in many cases equal the quality of those on the original classic 1988 album. Scott has compiled these into a triple CD and vinyl collection, with a book containing 15,000 words of Scott's own sleeve notes plus lyrics and unseen photos.

Yes - Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City 1976 2xCD/3xLP (Atlantic)

On June 17, 1976, the formidable Relayer lineup of Yes (Jon Anderson, Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Alan White, and Patrick Moraz) performed in front of a capacity crowd at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, NJ. The quintet was captured mid-tour during a live broadcast on New York's WNEW-FM. While the performance has remained one of the band's most popular bootlegs for decades, this release marks its first official appearance. The performance balances full-band epics like "The Gates Of Delirium" and "Ritual" with staples like "Siberian Khatru" and "Heart Of The Sunrise." The set also features rare individual spotlights for Anderson's ethereal selections from Olias of Sunhillow and Moraz's rhythmic explorations from The Story of I, alongside Howe's acoustic signature, "Clap."

Frank Zappa - ZAPPAtite: Frank Zappa's Tastiest Tracks CD/2xLP (Frank Zappa)

ZAPPAtite: Frank Zappa's Tastiest Tracks collects a healthy portion of Zappa's best-known compositions, from his early psychedelic rock beginnings to his avant-garde experimentation, jazz-rock explorations, symphonic suites & satirical send ups, compiling them into one easily digestible collection and offering key entryways into his many musical worlds. "This isn't a greatest hits album as Frank didn't really have 'hits,' per se, nor is it a 'best of' since that would be an impossibility to fit so much awesome onto one disc," says Ahmet Zappa. "It's a veritable smorgasbord of musicality for the curious and a buffet of favorites for the fans, ZAPPAtite collects a cross section of my favorite songs composed by my dad."
