Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Angine de Poitrine - Vol. II CD (Spectacles Bonzai)

Released 6/12 on vinyl, now available on CD. The 2nd album from time-traveling duo Angine de Poitrine. With Vol. II, a dense, no-frills, high-impact record, the “Poitrine brothers” push their sound even further, with sharper dynamics, stranger structures, and a sense of humor that reveals itself only if you’re paying attention. The recipe still revolves around the same three ingredients: acid techno, disco, and rock. [Vol. I CD reissue also available today.]

Casi - Casi CD/LP (Carpark)

From a chance meeting in Spanaway to 12 years of relentless collaboration, Eli and Xay are Casi, an electrifying duo fusing hardcore, hip-hop, nu-metal, and emo into something urgent and new. After early DIY EPs and 2025's Everybody's Secret, their self-titled Carpark debut delivers 10 explosive tracks capturing the risks, anxieties, and intensity of growing up Black in America, two old friends with everything to say, shouting it loud.

Dame Area - Toda la Mentira Sobre Dame Area LP (Kuroneko)

Hailing from Barcelona, Dame Area make an eclectic, discerning form of contemporary industrial music, deploying compulsive minimal synth and primal polyrhythms, as well as uniquely reconstrued elements of post-punk & EBM. Their music has been shared or praised by Iggy Pop, Cosey Fanni Tutti (Throbbing Gristle, Chris & Cosey), Geoff Barrow (Portishead, Beak), among many others.

Diles Que No Me Maten - Escrito En Agua LP (Moonlight Activities)

Diles Que No Me Maten are a Mexico City five-piece whose krautrock-influenced art rock has evolved into something genuinely singular - wiry, poetic, and alive with improvisational instinct. Their fourth album Escrito en Agua is their most focused and accessible work yet, recorded in a makeshift studio in Santa María La Ribera with producer Sebastián Rojas. Built around restrained drumming, deliberate silences, and the spiritual weight of Oaxacan funerary music, the record moves with an unhurried confidence that feels hard-won. [Red vinyl pressing.]

DJ Haram & Sha Ray - Critical Thot CD/LP (Backwoodz Studioz)

The bold new collaborative album from Bay Area-based rapper/producer Sha Ray, and producer/electronic musician DJ Haram - two uncompromising artists reshaping rap and experimental sound. Sha Ray quickly proves herself to be in a class of her own, navigating even the knottiest of DJ Haram productions without taking her foot off the gas. Haram digs deep into her bag with beats that run the gamut from experimental and abrasive to slinky fun to darkly foreboding. A trappy banger dissolves into a flood of strings. A sparse industrial soundscape slowly coheres into a cacophonous uppercut of a rap record. Sha Ray bobs and weaves her way through every drum break and synth with a defiant ease.

FKA Twigs - Eusexua Afterglow LP (Atlantic)

Initially conceived as a deluxe album to EUSEXUA, Afterglow evolved into a full-fledged body of work that serves as a continuation of her critically acclaimed album EUSEXUA, which, in addition to its Grammy win for Best Dance/Electronic Album, was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize 2025 for Album of the Year. Features PinkPantheress. [Translucent pink vinyl.]

The Fray - A Light That Waits CD/LP (The Fray)

After a 12-year hiatus, The Fray returns with their first LP written entirely as a trio. Coming off a sold-out 20th-anniversary global tour and the RIAA Diamond certification of 'How to Save a Life,' the band is entering 2026 with more momentum than ever.

Goose - Big Modern! 2xLP (No Coincidence)

Following the back-to-back releases of Everything Must Go and Chain Yer Dragon in 2025, Goose return with Big Modern!, a vibrant next chapter that expands the band's signature indie rock sound with neon-lit inspired synths, driving rhythms, and soaring anthemic hooks. New tracks like "Good2B" and "Good Times // End Times" arrive alongside fan favorites "Big Modern" and "Torero," capturing Goose's adventurous spirit while delivering some of their most bold and dynamic studio recordings yet.

Karl Hector & the Malcouns - Yolek LP (Now-Again)

The Karl Hector adventure continues with their fourth studio album. Yolek digs deeper into the Krautrock history embedded deep in the soil of their native Munich – three of the most influential bands of the 1970s experimental German rock scene sprung from there: Amon Düül, Popol Vuh and Embryo. Drawing from those bands’ homebound and worldly influences, JJ Whitefield and Zdenko Curulija conceived and produced this kosmiche-werk.

Hrishikesh Hirway - In the Last Hour of Light LP (Keeled Scales)

Known for his award-winning podcast and Netflix series, Song Exploder, and compositions for film and television, including Companion, Save The Date, Our Nixon, and Everything Sucks!, Hirway's original music project started under the name One AM Radio, and changed to his own name with the 2022 release Rooms I Used To Call My Own EP. Produced by Grammy-winning producer Philip Weinrobe, In the Last Hour of Light is a memoir about letting go-of people, of memories, of the desire to stop time from moving too fast. The lineup of Hrishikesh's band included Shahzad Ismaily and Ken Pomeroy, among others, with featured guest vocals from Iron & Wine, Fenne Lily, and Uwade, as well as contributions from Jay Som, Palehound, Daniel Hart (St. Vincent), Zosha Warpeha (L'Rain), and Dustin O'Halloran.

Kehlani - Kehlani CD/2xLP (Atlantic)

The highly anticipated new album from Grammy-winning R&B powerhouse Kehlani is an intimate and fearless body of work that reflects her clarity, confidence, and creative freedom. The project captures her at her most honest, blending soul-baring storytelling with the lush, genre-bending sound that has made her one of modern R&B's most influential voices. Exploring themes of love, transformation, vulnerability, and growth, the album presents Kehlani fully in her element - raw, reflective, and unapologetically herself. [Violet marble color vinyl pressing.]

Mork - Monolitt CD/LP (Peaceville)

Monolitt is an album that further expands the sonic & atmospheric depth of existing Mork releases; unafraid to challenge the listener, while steadfastly rooted in the cold traditions of the genre. With this uncompromising vision & direction for Monolitt, Mork delivers a sound which is brutal and expansive for a relentless journey through the shadows of Norwegian Black Metal, while forging new paths within that ancient & revered framework. Featuring SZA, Dominic Fike, and Julian Sintonia, Rashad delivers his most vulnerable and fully-realized work yet after five transformative years, an unfiltered reflection on addiction, growth, self-confrontation, and redemption. [Indie exclusive red vinyl pressing.]

Myles Smith - My Mess, My Heart, My Life CD/LP (RCA)

The debut album from the British singer-songwriter. Featuring the singles Stargazing, Nice To Meet You, Drive Safe feat. Niall Horan, Gold and Stay (If You Wanna Dance).

Chris Stamey - Modernism CD/LP (Flatiron Recordings)

Modernism is the latest collection from North Carolina songwriter / vocalist / guitarist / producer Chris Stamey. Conceived as a companion piece to 2025’s lauded Anything Is Possible, the new album is a further “love letter” to the kaleidoscopic variety of music heard on AM and free-form FM radio in the 1960s and early 70s, and features many of his favorite songs from that era. The title is a wink and a nod to the fact that it was made primarily at Modern Recording (Chapel Hill, NC).

Styrofoam Winos - Any River CD/LP (Dear Life)

A decade ago, three employees of JJ's Market and Cafe became Styrofoam Winos. Lou Turner, Trevor Nikrant, and Joe Kenkel bonded over their mutual adoration for Bob Dylan, Patti Smith, Leonard Cohen, and dollar bin country records. Styrofoam Winos have always gone with the flow, which makes Any River an apt title for their new album, the follow-up to 2024's Real Time. Their playful approach is bolstered by the chops of seasoned musicians who have performed many hundreds of concerts, both together and as touring members of Ryan Davis and the Roadhouse Band, MJ Lenderman and the Wind, and as solo artists. Catch them live at Grimey's on Thursday, July 23rd!

Tigerbalm - Bubblegum Discos LP (Ubiquity)

Four years on from her acclaimed debut International Love Affair, Tigerbalm (Rose Robinson) returns to Ubiquity with the thrillingly kaleidoscopic Bubblegum Discos. A bolder evolution of her globally infused nu-disco sound, the album reflects a newfound confidence and a desire to collaborate with handpicked musicians and vocalists from around the world. Painted in vivid sonic colours, Bubblegum Discos showcases Tigerbalm's two great musical loves: Brazilian musical culture and vintage dancefloor workouts from the African continent, infused with nods to Italo-disco, proto-house and soca.

Warning - Rituals of Shame CD/LP (Relapse)

The first new release in 20 years from the doom metal band led by Patrick Walker. Walker's lifelong musical inspirations can be traced through the sonic touchstones of this new album. The ambitious structural arrangements harken to Marillion’s complex but soaring episodic songs, but the songs also retain a sparsity that is reminiscent of June Tabor’s economic arrangements; thick with melody but with a diaphanous air to them. Citing John Brenner of Revelation as an enduring inspiration, Patrick credits him with introducing the idea of how to infuse heavy music with significant emotional depth. Recorded and mixed by Chris Fullard (Idles, Sunn O))), Ulver). [Custom half and half with splatter color vinyl pressing.]

Jesse Welles - Hells Welles 2xLP (Jesse Welles)

Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Jesse Welles sings about the raw truth of the state of America with a twist of humor, folk, and urgency on Hells Welles. [Indie exclusive orange vinyl pressing.]

Reissues, Comps, Live Recordings, Vault Excavations...

AFI - Decemberunderground 2xLP (Interscope)

20th anniversary reissue. On their 2003 major label debut Sing the Sorrow, AFI made a seismic sonic shift, largely eschewing its punk and hardcore past for bombastic pop. For their platinum-selling follow-up Decemberunderground, they reunited with Jerry Finn, the famed producer who helped define pop-punk in the 1990s and 2000s, for what Entertainment Weekly called their “most melodically acute distillation” of “eerie, metal-edged Cure sound." Released in 2006, the album debuted at Number One on the Billboard 200 and features fan favorites "Love Like Winter," "Kill Caustic," and "Summer Shudder.” Dense arrangements, arena-rock-ready songs and the critically acclaimed “Miss Murder” have made this record a perennial favorite. [Indie exclusive smoky color vinyl pressing.]

Air - Pocket Symphony 2xLP (Rhino)

Pocket Symphony is the fifth album by French duo Air, originally released in 2007 and produced by longtime collaborator Nigel Godrich. Christian Death - Only Theatre of Pain 2xLP (Futurismo)

Futurismo are proud to present the iconic 1982 debut album, Only Theatre of Pain, by gothic legends Christian Death. Hailed as a masterpiece of its genre, and considered by many as ground zero for Deathrock, Only Theatre of Pain is a seminal work of unholy power and pitch-black emotion. While this record may have its roots in punk - the origins of this true original version of Christian Death took place in Southern California during the early 80's hardcore explosion - it cannot be overstated how important this record was in shaping the subsequent landscape. Emerging like an adrenaline shot into the heart of darkness, this unrestrained and mysterious recording still remains unclassifiable.
