Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Alter Bridge - Alter Bridge CD/2xLP (Napalm)

World-renowned rockers Alter Bridge release their self-titled, 8th studio album. The band worked with longtime collaborator and producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette on Alter Bridge, which features iconic moments on songs like "Silent Divide, " "Playing Aces, " and "Scales Are Falling". [Indie exclusive green vinyl pressing.]

The Cribs - Selling a Vibe CD/LP (PIAS)

After two decades and nine albums as one of Britain's best-loved bands, Wakefield-born siblings Gary, Ryan and Ross Jarman have weathered enough storms to realise that an indestructible bond exists between them. That bond is at the heart of Selling A Vibe - their bold new album, produced by MGMT and Caroline Polachek collaborator Patrick Wimberley, and an unapologetic celebration of family. The record features bittersweet anthems like "Distractions," the danceable "Self Respect," and the hazardously catchy "A Point Too Hard To Make." Wimberley helped the group adopt contemporary pop recording techniques for the first time, pushing their sound in new directions. [Indie exclusive green vinyl pressing.]

Dictaphone - Unstable LP (Denovali)

The sixth album from the project led by Brussels-born composer Oliver Doerell, along with woodwind instrumentalist Roger Doering and violinist Alexander Stolze. The dark atmosphere and experimental sound of their latest album is a reference to the 80s belgian art music scene, which Doerell was lucky enough to experience in his formative years. Minimal jazz meets musique concrete meets a postpunk mind. 'Unstable' features more vocals than usual for Dictophone, particularly Helga Raimondi, who also sang on the group's previous album 'Goats and Distortions 5.'

Dry Cleaning - Secret Love CD/LP (4AD)

Secret Love is the finest expression yet of the profound friendships that created Dry Cleaning. Here, the south London four-piece take their place in rock's avant garde, catalysing the Reaganite paranoia of early 80s US punk and hardcore with the dry strut of Keith Richards, stoner rock, dystopian degradation, playful no wave and pastoral fingerpicking, while Florence's delivery, meticulously calibrated to her bandmates' soundscapes, asserts her in a lineage of spoken-word artists stretching from Laurie Anderson to Life Without Buildings' Sue Tompkins. [Indie exclusive apricot color vinyl pressing.]

Silvana Estrada - Vendrán Suaves Lluvias CD/LP (Glassnote)

Latin Grammy winner Silvana Estrada (Best New Artist, 2022) returns with her sophomore LP Vendrán Suaves Lluvias ("Soft Rains Will Come"). Turning to themes of joy, movement, strength, and hope, the album's 10 tracks are written and produced entirely by Estrada. Hailed by NPR, Rolling Stone, The New York Times and many more, she hopes that "the soft rains will come to bring us peace and joy... to make hope bloom again."

Jenny on Holiday - Quicksand Heart CD/LP (Transgressive)

Jenny Hollingworth, best known as one half of Let's Eat Grandma, steps into her own with Quicksand Heart - a 10-track debut that's equal parts tender and defiant. Taking the playful alias Jenny on Holiday, she trades the band's surrealist pop for a lucid, heartfelt exploration of joy after loss, drawing on the energy of punky basslines, twinkling synths, and the crystalline clarity of her voice. Written in the quiet of Norwich summers and honed in London studios with producer Steph Marziano, the record distills her love for straight-talking lyricism and bold, immediate pop. Hollingworth turns vulnerability into propulsion, weaving stories that shimmer between cinematic drama and simple truths.

Kyle M - Winter's Wish LP (Stones Throw)

Winter’s Wish is a Christmas EP from Kyle M, the musical alias of actor, comedian, and director Kyle Mooney (Saturday Night Live, Y2K, Brigsby Bear). It follows the cult success of his debut album The Real Me on Stones Throw Records, a fan-favorite for its offbeat sincerity. Winter’s Wish once again finds Mooney fully in his creative element, writing, recording, and producing every track himself. A tongue-in-cheek yet heartfelt ode to the holiday season, Winter’s Wish blends vintage Christmas nostalgia with Kyle’s signature lo-fi pop aesthetic and storytelling. A holiday record for indie fans, comedy heads, and anyone looking for something a little left-of-center to soundtrack the season. [Translucent light blue vinyl.]

Mizmor & Hell - Alluvion LP (Gilead Media)

The compositions on Alluvion are intended to be used as a map to help navigate the listener through bouts of psychic distress, touching upon emotions both terribly familiar and wholly extrinsic. Pensive, tranquil movements combust into passages of absolutely soul-searing sludge. Suffocating, blackened doom bursts out of unknown crevasses; punctuated by the unsettling voices of beings doing their damnedest to claw their way out of canyons carved by mental anguish. It's a harrowing journey, but one that seeks to provide a necessary catharsis. Alluvion is meant to act as a lens into the mind's seemingly mystifying geography; a vessel for the self-exploration of the complex terrains of the human psyche. [Indie exclusive Blood Moon red vinyl pressing.]

Mon Rovîa - Bloodline CD/LP (Nettwerk)

The striking debut album from Mon Rovîa transforms personal struggle into a powerful statement of resilience and hope. The record channels themes of identity, survival, and transformation into a sound and story that have already resonated with millions worldwide. Mon's music is rooted in his groundbreaking Afro-Appalachian folk sound, a genre-defying blend that bridges folk tradition and modern storytelling. At the heart of Mon Rovîa's artistry is a commitment to fostering community and connection. Whether performed in intimate settings or reaching millions online, his work resonates as a call to gather, to reflect, and to imagine a more connected future together.

Wolfgang Muthspiel - Tokyo LP (ECM)

Wolfgang Muthspiel and his trio with Scott Colley on bass and Brian Blade on drums (“Together they have something of the empathy of the Bill Evans trio” – Downbeat) goes into its third recording-venture swinging, setting the stage for what may be the group’s most adventurous trio recording with a delicate reading of Keith Jarrett’s “Lisbon Stomp”. Throughout the album however, the Austrian guitarist and his American cohorts turn the spotlight towards Wolfgang’s captivating originals, touching on balladic lyricism (“Pradela”, “Traversia”), subtle folk infusions (“Strumming”, “Flight”), as well as oblique chamber jazz (“Weill You Wait”) and twangy rock and roll (“Roll”).

The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - Night After Night CD (NGDB Records)

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band formed in 1966 as a Long Beach, California jug band that scored its first charting single in 1967 and embarked on a very successful self-propelled ride through folk, country, rock 'n' roll, pop, bluegrass, and Americana. Released digitally in October 2025, the Night After Night EP was recorded at Ocean Way Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, and The Tractor Shed Studio in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, and was mixed by Sean Sullivan alongside the band's cofounder Jeff Hanna and Jerry Douglas. The new EP is a family affair for Hanna who co-wrote three of the new songs. "Nashville Skyline" was co-written by Hanna, his wife and celebrated songwriter, Matraca Berg, and his son and bandmate Jaime. While Jeff Hanna takes on lead vocals on three of the five tracks, Jaime steps up to the center microphone on the other two.

Pullman - III LP (Western Vinyl)

Pullman is a studio-born acoustic supergroup that emerged from Chicago's post-rock milieu in the late '90s, uniting Ken "Bundy K." Brown (Tortoise/Directions in Music), Curtis Harvey (Rex), Chris Brokaw (Come), and Doug McCombs (Tortoise/Eleventh Dream Day); drummer Tim Barnes later joined, solidifying the group's core lineup. They debuted on Thrill Jockey in 1998 with Turnstyles & Junkpiles, a hushed, live-to-2-track collection of interwoven guitars that critics likened to John Fahey, Leo Kottke, and Gastr del Sol, and their 2001 follow-up, Viewfinder expanded the palette with percussion, subtle electric textures, and multi-track layering. Two decades later, Pullman return with III, an album forged in friendship and resilience. In 2021, Barnes went public with his diagnosis of early onset Alzheimer's at age 54. Even as his condition progressed, he and Brown began working almost daily, often remotely, with a wide circle of collaborators from Barnes's musical past. What began as a single contribution for a compilation gradually blossomed into a full Pullman record, completed between 2021 and 2023.

John Scofield - Memories of Home LP (ECM)

Guitarist John Scofield and bassist Dave Holland, two of jazz's contemporary masters, have played together over the years in contexts including projects with Herbie Hancock and Joe Henderson and a spirited co-led band with Joe Lovano and Al Foster. Memories of Home is their first duo album, made at NRS Studios, in Catskill, New York, last year, after extensive touring activity. John Scofield: "The record, like our live shows, features tunes each of us composed, some new, some old. We share decades of common references musically. The similarities and differences in our approaches make for a more interesting collaboration, I think."

Shlohmo - Repulsor LP (R&R)

Shlohmo is a pioneering experimental producer from Los Angeles. Repulsor is his first original music since 2019's The End and includes lead single "Chore Boy" featuring SALEM.

Thomas Strønen / Time is a Blind Guide - Off Stillness CD (ECM)

There's a rare acoustic alchemy at play in Time Is A Blind Guide. At times, the group's three string instruments make up a firm trio-unit that enters into thoughtful dialog with piano and percussion, but for the most part, the group's pulse works as a whole, with each instrument dynamically gliding in and out of the picture, captured in well-known acoustics of Rainbow Studio. The album, recorded at Rainbow Studio, Oslo in 2021, and mixed in Munich in 2024, was produced by Manfred Eicher.

Sylvan Esso - WDID b/w Keep On 12" (Psychic Hotline)

Sylvan Esso is a band from Durham, North Carolina. Across their career, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn have put out four acclaimed albums, been nominated for two GRAMMYs, and collaborated with a wide-ranging, eclectic community of artists including Arooj Aftab, Maggie Rogers, Tyler Childers, Reyna Tropical, Califone, and many more. "WDID" is the first new music from the band since 2022. The track, as well as it's hypnotic, undulating b-side "KEEP ON," were both born from an intense period of creation and experimentation for the band. "WDID" is a thorny, hammering all-caps screed; a manic thrum happening halfway between a 3am doom scroll and the dance floor. It bubbles with anxiety, the all-consuming, unending cascade of crises.

Stephen Wilson Jr. - Blankets LP (Big Loud)

This four-track collection is a love letter to beloved alternative rock and indie songs from the nineties and early aughts. A member of Rolling Stone's 2025 Future of Music class, Stephen Wilson Jr. offers his take on Nirvana's "Something In The Way," "Hunger Strike" (Temple of the Dog), "Clark Gable" (The Postal Service) and "Tonight, Tonight" by The Smashing Pumpkins.

Blossom Dearie - Give Him the Ooh-La-La LP (Verve)

Originally released in 1958 on Verve Records, Give Him the Ooh-La-La captures pianist and vocalist Blossom Dearie's signature blend of cool understatement, crisp diction, and harmonic finesse. Produced by Norman Granz, the session features Dearie on piano and vocals, leading a quartet with guitarist Herb Ellis, bassist Ray Brown, and drummer Jo Jones. The program includes songs by Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, and Noel Coward, along with two Dearie co-writes - "Try Your Wings" and "Bang Goes the Drum (And You're in Love)" - which showcase her wit and compositional touch. From the sly charm of the title track to the graceful melancholy of "Plus je t'embrasse," Dearie's performances balance elegance with rhythmic ease. The Verve Vault series is always mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

Dictaphone - Poems from a Rooftop LP (Denovali)

Limited vinyl reissue of Dictaphone's third album, originally released in 2012. 'Poems from a rooftop' was their third album in ten years and the first to feature new member Alexander Stolze on violin, adding a layer of shimmering string tones to the outfit's brand of dusty, haunted jazz. The title comes from Iran's 'green revolution', when people were so afraid to go out on the street that they emerged on their own rooftops to protest the stifling regime. This sentiment carries into the conflict and shrouded mystery in each song, from the rhythmic, emotive bar-room crawl of 'The Conversation' to the phenomenal 'Rattle', led by vocalist Mariechen Danz. 'Poems from a rooftop' catches a point in the band's career where they appear perfectly at ease with their sound, and able to distil the jazz, subtle electronics and haunting ambience of their previous records into one deftly coherent whole.

The Doobie Brothers - The Captain and Me Blu-Ray (Rhino)

The Doobie Brothers classic third album from 1973 featuring the hits "China Grove" and "Long Train Runnin'." This is the trifecta of immersive audio including an original quadraphonic mix from 1973, a 5.1 mix from 2001, a new Dolby Atmos mix from 2025 and hi-res stereo.

Silvana Estrada - Marchita CD/LP (Glassnote)

Silvana Estrada's debut album Marchita available for the first time on vinyl & CD. Winner of the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist in 2022 and critically acclaimed by NPR, Rolling Stone, The New York Times and many others. [Indie exclusive clear vinyl pressing.]

Faces - Long Player LP (Rhino)

Faces' second album, 'Long Player,' gets a much-anticipated vinyl repress on standard black vinyl, showcasing the band at the height of their powers. This ragged, yet cohesive, rock and roll masterpiece captures the band's ferocious energy and collaborative songwriting. Featuring standout tracks like "Bad 'n' Ruin" and a soaring cover of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed".

Steve Forbert - The Things That I See LP (Rolling Tide)
Recently reissued on CD, now available on vinyl. Remastered 10th anniversary rerelease of Steve Forbert's 2015 album Compromised. Initially released on the Rock Ridge label, it features Forbert's cover of "Send In The Clowns" along with 11 of his originals.

Hatebreed - Supremacy LP (Real Gone Music)

Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta described Supremacy as an "all-out onslaught of completely adrenaline-charged, in-your-face brutality," and who are we to argue (in fact, we’d be afraid to)?! Hatebreed came up through the Connecticut hardcore scene (they actually kind of invented it), and recorded acclaimed albums for the Victory and Universal labels before moving to Roadrunner for this 2006 record, which featured the debut of guitarist Frank “3 Gun” Novinec. Supremacy’s sonic assault took it to #31 on the charts, but there’s more to it than just piledriving riffs; Jasta’s personal statement (reproduced on the insert) is remarkable for its honesty and its quasi-Nietzschean philosophy, and the lyrics (e.g. “Mind over All;” “Supremacy of Self”) follow suit. Remastered for its U.S. vinyl debut by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision. [Hazy green "Up in Smoke" color vinyl pressing.]

Roland Kirk - The Inflated Tear LP (Atlantic)

Originally released on Atlantic in 1968. Roland Kirk, was a hugely influential, blind jazz multi-instrumentalist who played tenor saxophone, flute, and many other instruments. He was renowned for his onstage vitality, during which virtuoso improvisation was accompanied by comic banter, political ranting, and the ability to play several instruments simultaneously. Pitchfork placed The Inflated Tear at number 170 on its list of the "200 Best Albums of the 1960s. Pressed on 180 gram premium-quality vinyl at Fidelity Record Pressing as part of the Rhino Reserve audiophile vinyl series.

The Monkees - Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. LP (Rhino)

First ever vinyl pressing sourced from the album's original stereo master, overseen by Kevin Gray. Released at the height of Monkeemania in November 1967, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd was The Monkees' fourth consecutive #1 album-and their third release that year alone. Building on the creative control they established with Headquarters, the album marked a turning point in the band's sound, incorporating sharper lyrics, electric banjo, and one of the earliest uses of a Moog synthesizer on a rock album. Recorded amid a grueling tour schedule and across multiple studios, the sessions captured both the group's growing studio ambitions and the fragmented pace of their late-'60s reality. The result was one of their most adventurous and enduring records. 180 gram vinyl pressing.

Shlohmo - Bad Vibes 2xLP (Friends of Friends)

Green vinyl reissue of the Los Angeles-based experimental hip-hop producer's 2011 debut album. With an effortless grasp on sound design, Henry Laufer combines deceptively simple and emotive melodies, subtle bass drops and swinging slow motion drums.

Various Artists -  Sofie's SOS Tape 2xLP (Stones Throw)

SOS Tape was an insider’s look on emerging acts across the US and abroad in 2016 including Charlotte Dos Santos, Mndsgn, SiR, Zeroh, DJ Harrison, Braxton Cook, Ahwlee, ISSUE (E40’s son). Sofie Royer, Ohbliv, and many more.

Steely Dan - Everything Must Go LP (Rhino)

Steely Dan's final studio album, Everything Must Go (2003), returns in a beautifully remastered 180-gram clear vinyl edition. Featuring Donald Fagen and Walter Becker's unmistakable blend of jazz-steeped sophistication, sharp wit, and immaculate studio precision, this reissue presents the album with new depth, warmth, and definition. Highlights like "Blues Beach," "Godwhacker," and the groove-driven title track showcase the band's late-era confidence and cohesion, recorded largely with a live-in-the-room feel that sets it apart from their earlier work. Pressed on premium 180-gram clear vinyl and housed in a faithful reproduction of the original packaging, this edition offers a rich listening experience worthy of Steely Dan's storied legacy.

Trouble - Trouble 2xLP (Napalm)

35th Anniversary edition. Trouble’s absolute classic: the legendary album from 1990 and the pinnacle of Trouble’s impressive career. Trouble’s debut album remains one of the darkest, thrashiest doom albums to date, boasting a fleshed out sound with unparalleled songwriting, a great production, and the time-crafted vocals of Eric Wagner. [Limited edition green vinyl pressing.]

Various Artists - True Romance O.S.T. LP (Real Gone Music)

Though it was directed by Tony Scott, the 1993 film True Romance displayed all the signature themes and images of its writer, Quentin Tarantino, from its grisly violence to its B-movie homages to its gleeful amorality. And the same could be said of the soundtrack; alongside composer Hans Zimmer’s riff on Carl Orff (which itself was an homage to another violent road movie, Badlands), True Romance offered a playlist that smacked of Tarantino in its embrace of rockabilly (Charlie Sexton, Chris Isaak), grunge (Soundgarden), honky-tonk (Shelby Lynne), and romantic machismo (Robert Palmer’s take on “[Love Is] The Tender Trap”). For this reissue, Real Gone has crafted a custom jacket sporting production stills from the film. What’s more, this release of True Romance comes in turquoise “Alabama Worley” vinyl in honor of the sartorial hue Patricia Arquette's character favored in the film!

Van Halen - Live at Wembley 1995 CD/LP (Rhino)

Live from Wembley 1995 spotlights Van Halen live in concert from London's Wembley Stadium on their Balance Tour. The explosive eight-song performance, recorded on June 24, 1995 features an anthemic mix of the band's biggest hits and deep cuts.

Dinah Washington - What A Diff'rence A Day Makes (Verve Vault Series) LP (Blue Note)

What A Diff'rence A Day Makes, released in 1959 on Mercury Records, marked a turning point in the career of vocalist Dinah Washington - earning her a Grammy Award and bringing her rich, blues-informed style into the world of lush orchestral pop. Produced by Clyde Otis and arranged by Belford Hendricks, the album represents Washington's successful crossover from jazz and R&B into the mainstream pop market. The title track, originally written in Spanish in the 1930s and popularized in English by other vocalists, became Washington's signature song after her version climbed the Billboard charts and won the 1960 Grammy for Best Rhythm & Blues Performance - the first year the award was presented. The result is a seamless fusion of jazz tradition and contemporary production, establishing Washington as one of the most versatile and expressive vocalists of her era. The Verve Vault series is always mastered from analog tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.

Zig-Zag Band - Chigiyo Music Kings 1987-1998 2xLP (Analog Africa)

Emerging in the early 1980s, Zig-Zag Band established themselves as one of Zimbabwe's most distinctive musical voices. Hailing from the small town of Kwekwe, Zig-Zag Band appeared out of nowhere and revolutionised the 80s music scene with a new sound. They crafted a bold and original style defined as Chigiyo - a vibrant fusion of reggae, traditional rhythms, brass arrangements and mbira-inspired guitar. With intricate guitar lines, infectious dance rhythms, and raw, soulful Shona vocals, they pushed beyond genre boundaries. This compilation brings Zig-Zag Band's groundbreaking music back into the spotlight, celebrating their unique contribution to Zimbabwean culture and reintroducing a vibrant, underappreciated catalogue to a new generation of listeners.
