A native Nashvillian, at 16 Donato became the youngest musician to regularly play the iconic honky tonk Robert’s Western World while gigging with the Don Kelley Band. Before he ever picked up a guitar, he discovered he had an aptitude for music via the video game Guitar Hero. At the time, he didn’t feel compelled to try his hand at the real thing until, about the age of 12, he heard Guns ‘N’ Roses’ “Paradise City”. “It was the first time I ever had a vision for my life,” says Donato. From then on, Donato lived and breathed music. After years of performing alongside world class musicians, Donato released his debut album, A Young Man's Country (2020), which was recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium in two days and produced by Robben Ford. His follow-up, Cosmic Country & Western Songs, was released in 2021.
The new album, Reflector, spans 15 songs in 66 minutes. It's an album in the classic sense of the word, tracks that are individually memorable but sound even better coming one after the other and make the sum greater than the total of its parts. ''We're touching on a lot with this record, which is also why there's so many songs on it,'' acknowledges Donato, whose stinging Fender Telecaster tone is the strongest glue of continuity throughout - and is positively screaming on tracks such as ''Gotta Get Southbound'' and ''Dance in the Desert Pt. 2.'' ''If you're the kind of person who wants to listen to a record and have a record be a companion with you, then Reflector is going to vibrate in your frequency.''
We cannot wait to host Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country in the record shop and hear songs from Reflector live. We’ll have copies of the new album available for purchase at our event and the band will sign those for attendees after their set.
