Hitting The Racks

Here's your weekly rundown of what's hitting the new release racks at Grimey's

New Releases

Peter Criss - Peter Criss CD/LP

Peter Criss is a founding member and the original drummer for the rock n' roll supergroup, KISS. In addition to playing drums, Peter also provided lead vocals for a number of KISS' most popular songs including Black Diamond, Hard Luck Woman, and the Top 10 Billboard charting Beth. After numerous world tours, platinum albums, and KISS merchandise, Peter Criss left the band in 1980. He later embarked on a solo career that led to the release of Out of Control, Let Me Rock You, and most recently One for All, which landed at number 35 on the Indie charts. His brand new studio album is his most rock-driven solo album yet and features guest appearances from John 5 (Motley Crue, Rob Zombie), Billy Sheehan (David Lee Roth), Paul Shaffer (David Letterman), and Mike McLaughlin. [Silver color vinyl pressing.]

Fred again.. - USB002 2xLP (Atlantic)

The second installment of the producer/DJ's "infinite" album, featuring contributions from Floating Points and Danny Brown.

Heavensgate - Angel Hymns CD/LP (Pure Noise)

Heavensgate have quickly risen from Melbourne’s underground to become one of the most talked-about new names in heavy music. With their punishing live shows and a string of hard-hitting singles, they’ve drawn attention across the global metalcore and hardcore scenes. Angel Hymns brings together every track from their recent EP A Heart Is A Heavy Burden along with a selection of earlier material, offering both a snapshot of where the band has come from and a preview of what lies ahead as they continue pushing forward in the heavy scene. [Marbled color vinyl pressing.]

HighSchool - HighSchool LP (PIAS)

HighSchool are Melbourne duo Rory Trobbiani and Luke Scott, who made their mark with 2021's debut EP Forever at Last, showcasing their fresh take on lo-fi, new wave, goth and post-punk. After relocating to London, they immersed themselves in the live circuit, releasing singles including the Dan Carey-produced (Wet Leg, Fontaines D.C., IDLES) "Only a Dream" and Italo-disco-tinged "Colt," while steadily building a global fanbase. Now, with their debut album, produced by Ben Hillier (Blur, Depeche Mode) and Finn Bellingham (Sam Akpro, Sunken), HighSchool deliver a vivid coming-of-age soundtrack. Recorded between London and Melbourne, the record fuses post-punk, shoegaze and alternative revivalism across twelve personal songs - from the euphoric "Dipped" and digital-age romance of "Sony Ericsson" to the nostalgic closer "Best and Fairest".

Ice Cube - Man Up 2xLP (Ruffnation Music)

The powerful new album from one of hip-hop's foundational voices. A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and co-founder of N.W.A, Cube reshaped rap with fearless storytelling and unfiltered social commentary. His solo catalog, spanning essentials like AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted, Death Certificate, and timeless classics like "It Was a Good Day", has cemented him as a multi-platinum force for generations. Still as bold and socially conscious as ever, Man Up channels his legacy of truth, crafted to be felt and heard. [CD out 12/26.]

IDLES - Caught Stealing CD/LP (Partisan)

IDLES and acclaimed director Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan) quickly formed a creative kinship, united by a deep mutual respect for each other's work. When Aronofsky began developing his latest film, Caught Stealing (starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz) he turned to IDLES, his favorite band, to shape the film's sonic identity. Drawing inspiration from the gritty energy of the 1990s New York punk scene that permeates the film, IDLES contributed four original tracks, a striking cover of "Police & Thieves," and recorded the full film score, composed by Rob Simonsen (Deadpool & Wolverine, The Whale, Foxcatcher). [White vinyl pressing.]

LANY - Soft LP (Hills Artists)

LANY have quietly cracked the mainstream on their own terms as one of the most unpredictable and undeniable alternative rock bands of this era. Tallying billions of streams, selling out legendary arenas, and earning widespread critical acclaim, the platinum-certified Los Angeles group consistently deliver rafter-reaching anthems anchored by airtight songcraft and the outsized personality of enigmatic frontman and songwriter Paul Jason Klein. The follow-up to 2023's A Beautiful Blur, their new album Soft exists in tension - an intentional contrast of the hard and soft. Tangible, literal, physical hardness juxtaposed with metaphorical, relational (and, at times too, physical) softness. Sonically, the album explores these same tensions - much of the softness and vulnerability of lyric that has defined LANY's acclaimed career, now with a harder, braver edge to the production. [Maroon vinyl pressing.]

Lucy Bedroque - Unmusic LP (deadAir)

The debut project from experimental rapper and producer Lucy Bedroque, featuring guest appearances from Prettifun and Jackzebra.

Lip Cream - 9 Shocks Terror CD/LP (Relapse)
Lip Cream - Close to the Edge CD/LP (Relapse)
Lip Cream - 罪 –Sin– CD/LP (Relapse)
Lip Cream - Thrash Til Death CD/LP (Relapse)

Remastered reissues of the Japanese hardcore band's five albums released between 1985 and 1989, as well as their 1995 collection of tracks originally released across a number of compilation albums. The Japanese hardcore movement that emerged between 1980 and 1981 was characterized by fashion such as Trojan and spiky hair with studded jackets, and the sound was also heavily influenced by UK hardcore. However, Lip Cream incorporated American hardcore into their sound and created a uniquely Japanese-hardcore niche that was still unfamiliar to most Japanese listeners at the time.

Spanish Love Songs - Schmaltz LP (Pure Noise)

Massive, emo-fuelled and anthemic punk jams from Spanish Love Songs. Originally released in 2018, Schmaltz finds the band at something of a crossroads. Too indie to be punk and too punk to be indie, they blend the earnest pop-punk of the Menzingers, the anthemic drive of the Gaslight Anthem with the engaging melancholy of Mountain Goats and the Weakerthans on a rousing but emotionally bruising album. While Schmaltz is, understandably, dominated by Slocum's intelligent, exploratory lyrics, the songs themselves are a tight and cohesive set of punchy rock songs crammed full of spiky hooks and fuzzy melodies. [Marbled color vinyl pressing.]

Viagra Boys - Consistency of Energy / Call of the Wild LP (Year0001)

Available for the first time in general retail, this 12" combines Viagra Boys explosive debut EP "Consistency Of Energy" (2016) with the enigmatic "Call Of The Wild" EP. Featuring stand-out tracks like "Research Chemicals" and "Call Of The Wild", this edition comes in a embossed + foiled jacket with both original covers (designed by singer Sebastian Murphy) printed on the inner sleeve.

Scott Weiland - If I Could Fly / Barbarella 7" (Primary Wave)

Originally scheduled for RSD Black Friday 2025. The world tragically lost Scott Weiland, lead vocalist of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver 10 years ago. An unreleased track,"If I Could Fly," and a live version of "Barbarella" recorded in Anaheim in 2009 are now available for the first time on a limited edition, 7" single pressed on color vinyl.

Widespread Panic - Athens 1998 5xLP (Widespread Records)

Athens 1998 is the complete live recording of WP's legendary free performance in downtown Athens, Georgia on April 18, 1998. This show, which has been called the largest record release party ever, was in celebration of the band's live album Light Fuse, Get Away. While portions of this show were included in the 2002 DVD Panic In the Streets, this is the first time the entire performance has been pressed to vinyl. Brand New mix by John Keane.

Young Fathers - 28 Years Later 2xLP (Milan Records)

From BRIT-nominated and Mercury-Prize winning Young Fathers comes their critically acclaimed score for 28 Years Later, the latest instalment of the cult franchise. The Scottish progressive hip hop group bring an electrifying blend of original vocal tracks and instrumental score to the album. Featured are fan-favourite tracks ‘Promised Land’, ‘Causeway’ and ‘Boots’ – the latter incorporating the words of Rudyard Kipling’s wartime poem, used to terrifying effect. [Translucent blood red vinyl pressing.]
