New Releases

Devon Gilfillian - Black Hole Rainbow CD/LP (Capitol)

Devon Gilfillian, hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the most exciting young artists in Nashville's burgeoning soul scene, releases his debut album. Produced by Grammy Award-winning studio wizard Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Kacey Musgraves, The War On Drugs) in his iconic Downtown LA studio, Black Hole Rainbow masters the art of blending varied influences, styles, and methods to create a powerful vibe and inspired sensibility. At its core, it's a hip-shaking record about love-on multiple levels. As Devon puts it, "with these songs I want to instill a sense of vulnerability... I want these songs to motivate listeners to take action in their lives, and to better themselves so they can go out and give love to others."

Georgia - Seeking Thrills CD/LP+MP3 (Domino)

Inspired by the Chicago House and Detroit Techno of the early '80s, Seeking Thrills is a sonic feat of exploration and excellence, with textures that reflect Georgia's background in ethnic musicology, and hours upon hours spent rifling through records. Feminine without being saccharine, Georgia's deep, brooding reflections carry us through euphoria, heartache and melancholy but always with the memory of the good times. "The singer and producer has absorbed Chicago house, Robyn-style pop and dub reggae, and refashioned them into an album about being 'consumed by night'" - The Guardian

Field Music - Making A New World CD/LP+MP3 (Memphis Industries)

The seventh album by the English rock band is their first true concept album centered on the after-effects of WWI. [Limited red colored vinyl pressing also available.]

Beach Slang - The Deadbeat Bang Of Heartbreak City CD/LP (Bridge Nine)

Drawing comparisons to Jawbreaker and The Replacements, but never approaching easy facsimile, Beach Slang paid tribute to the past by lighting a new torch with their previous critically acclaimed records. Features guest appearance by Tommy Stinson (The Replacements). [Limited red colored vinyl pressing also available.]

Moon Hooch - Life On Other Planets CD/LP (Moon Hooch)

Recorded in a series of stunning, single-take performances, Life On Other Planets may be the purest distillation of Moon Hooch's sound ever put to tape. There's no studio magic here, just three virtuosic musicians who seem to share a telepathic connection, one that transcends language and genre and tradition. The songs on Life on Other Planets mix elements of jazz, funk, R&B, and EDM, swirling them all into an instrumental maelstrom the band refers to as "cave music" (think house music, but more jagged and primitive).

New on Vinyl

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross - Bird Box [OST] 4xLP (The Null Corporation)

Extended compositions and explorations created during the Bird Box scoring sessions from Academy Award winners Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Over two hours of music completed in various hotel rooms before and after Nine Inch Nails' 2018 Cold, Black And Infinite US tour. The intense pace and pressures of nightly performances began to bleed through into the work. What started as a film score began to mutate and expand into something far beyond what you saw on the screen.

Nine Inch Nails - With Teeth [Reissue/2005] 2xLP (Nothing)

Definitive vinyl reissue of With Teeth (2005), meticulously prepared by Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross and NIN art director, John Crawford. Remastered in 2019 with lots of details attended to that you may never notice but we care about. We didn't receive this title yet and expect stock early next week. You can reserve a copy by calling the store.

Townes Van Zandt - Our Mother The Mountain: 50th Anniversary LP (Fat Possum)

1969's Our Mother The Mountain is celebrated singer/songwriter Townes Van Zandt's second album and first classic. Recorded in California in the Spring of 1969, once again produced by Jack Clement, it featured a stellar cast of West Coast session musicians, notably James Burton, Charlie McCoy, Don "Richie" Frost and Don Randi.

Marianne Faithfull - Come And Stay With Me: The UK 45s 1964-69 2xLP (ABKCO)

Double vinyl LP pressing. Collection of the A and B-sides of the ten singles Marianne recorded for UK Decca between 1964 and 1969, plus her Go Away From My World EP. All tracks are in authentic mono & mastered from the best possible sources. Producers include Andrew Loog Oldham, Mike Leander, Tony Calder and Mick Jagger.

Fever Ray - Plunge Remix LP (Mute)

Recently released on CD - now available on vinyl. A new remix compilation of Fever Ray's album Plunge, which was released after an eight-year hiatus following Fever Ray's eponymous debut. Remixers were chosen with the goal of creating music for Fever Ray to dance to. Released over a period of almost two years, the tracks now sit together for the first time.

Groundhogs - Thank Christ For The Bomb [Reissue/1970] LP (Fire)

A hugely influential album cited as the embryo for punk, grunge and beyond. Featuring epic 1970 concepts from this far-reaching trio much praised by Underworld's Karl Hyde, Captain Sensible, Stephen Malkmus and a host of others. Thank Christ For The Bomb is a visionary tale of cold war fear, alienation and everyday drama.

Laura Nyro - More Than A New Discovery [Reissue/1967] LP (Real Gone Music)

Limited colored vinyl reissue. Seldom has the title of a debut album been more apt than the one that graced Laura Nyro's 1967 release, More Than A New Discovery. This was not the mere first foray of a budding talent. Instead, it introduced a fully-realized, remarkably mature (at the age of 19!) singer-songwriter whose singular fusion of pop, jazz, R&B, soul, Broadway, and folk sounds created some of the most beloved songs in modern popular music.

Billy Martin/Wil Blades - Shimmy LP (Royal Potato Family/Amulet)

Billy Martin and Wil Blades wanna make you Shimmy. The organ/drums duo waste no time getting right down to it on their debut album. Martin, the drummer for the legendary Medeski, Martin & Wood, and Blades, a much buzzed about young organist from the San Francisco live music scene, first came together for a low-key, one-off late night set during the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 2011. The music that evening was so deep in the pocket that the pair knew instantly there would be more shows together in their future.

Various Artists - Hillbillies in Hell: Volume 9 LP (Iron Mountain Analogue Research)
Repressed. Behold: the River of Earthly Torments, the Cavern of Hypocrites and the Lake of Fools. This hell-bound collection of weathered Nashville legends and battered backwoods-poets features tales of sinful lusts, barroom executions, gospel redemptions and problematic parenting. These troubled troubadours sing of the King of Lies, His Eternal Web, dismal, tortured Ghostly Inebriates, and smouldering, tearful Abandonment. This volume presents 16 timeless tribulations - Luciferian trysts, Satanic temptations, grisly masonic assassinations and heathen cosmologies. A daemonic stash of forgotten 45s - some of these sides are impossibly rare and are reissued here for the very first time.

Donnie & Joe Emerson - Dreamin' Wild LP (Light in the Attic)
Color vinyl pressing. Pacific Northwest isolation mixed with wide-eyed ambition, a strong sense of family and the gift of music proved to be quite the combination for teenage brothers Donnie and Joe Emerson. Originally released in 1979, Dreamin' Wild is the sonic vision of the talented Emerson boys, recorded in a family built home studio in rural Washington State. Situated in the unlikely blink-and-you-missed-it town of Fruitland and far removed from the late 1970s punk movement and the larger disco boom, Donnie and Joe tilled their own musical soil, channeling bedroom pop jams, raw funk, and yacht rock. This rare slice of bedroom-funk gets the usual Light In The Attic treatment with newly remastered audio, detailed liner notes, and expanded original album art with loads of photos from the Emerson's collection.

Switched On SNES - A Link to the Past (Extended Edition) LP (Subtropic Records)
Introducing a new extended version of A Link to the Past - now with hand constructed cover art and 17 tracks of Legend of Zelda music played on analog synths! The original edition was only around 15 minutes long, but this new extended version is 40 minutes and incorporates many new dark world and dungeon tracks. This release comes in three different translucent color variants - Green, Blue, or Red Rupee, randomly inserted. Includes insert poster.

Coil - Stolen & Contaminated Songs 2LP (Cold Spring Records)
180 gram vinyl; glossy, 350gsm gatefold sleeve. The long-awaited reissue of Stolen & Contaminated Songs, Coil's 1992 album. It is comprised of over 60 minutes of outtakes and unreleased songs, evolved during the recording sessions for their prior album, Love's Secret Domain (1991). A wealth of superb material showcasing the diversity of Coil: dark, violent, vivid, and fractured, yet cohesive and beautiful. Combined with the latest studio technology and Coil's ever-evolving production skills, S&C Songs walks a fine line between tradition and innovation, continually creating semi-abstract soundscapes with a cinematic quality.

Caedmon - Cademon LP + 7" (Guerssen Records)
A reissue of Caedmon's legendary, sought-after progressive folk-rock album debut from 1978, originally released as a private pressing. The UK-based 5-piece student band recorded this album to mark their farewell concert in early 1978, before they went their separate ways after university, with ten originals, a song based on a text by seventh century poet Caedmon, and a traditional gospel song. Angela Naylor's lead vocals are supported by close harmony male vocals throughout, and acoustic guitars, mandolin, and cello jostle with electric guitar, keyboards, percussion, and bass. The resultant blend can only be described as eclectic, conjuring a slightly bizarre mix of folk ballad, bossa-nova, and psychedelic jazz and funk. Unusual time signatures, tight arrangements, improbable instrumentation, oblique and poetic stories tackling spirituality, distorted fuzz guitar, and the odd recorder solo.

Música Esporádica - Música Esporádica LP (Music from Memory)
A reissue of the cult Spanish studio project Música Esporádica's incredible one off, self-titled album, originally released in 1985. Another Suso Saiz side project, this one grew out of a collaboration between his band Orquesta de Las Nubes and American musicians Glen Velez and Layne Redmond, after they visited Spain during a series of seminars on frame drum techniques. Having met Glen Velez some years before in Madrid whilst Glen was performing with the Steve Reich Ensemble, Suso Saiz and Glen Velez quickly formed a strong friendship over their mutual love of non-Western music and the potentials of repetition within music. With exciting new ideas flowing quickly and easily and just a few days available in studio, the group recorded for about 12, with what Suso would describe as "incredible fluency", inspiring the title Música Esporádica.

GRÜN WASSER - Not OK with things LP (Holodeck Records)
Chicago-based duo GRÜN WASSER shapes the course of minimal electronic music and blurs the boundaries of art, songwriting and performance. Vocalist Keely Dowd and producer Essej Pollock artfully bend and reconfigure popular trends in dance music into unconventionally catchy songs, as their unique mix of hardware, software and sampling coalesces into irresistible rhythms and brooding synth tones that fuse perfectly with Dowd's distinctive alto voice. GRÜN WASSER's use of textural samples reveals influences from hip-hop, house and industrial music, and Pollock's abstract percussion add a gritty undertone to their polished sound design. Swells of backing vocals add highlights of nuanced melody that swirl in and around dense synthwork and precise drum programming. With lyrics inspired by personal struggles and social inequality, GRÜN WASSER raises the bar on innovation in modern pop as they arrive on the national stage.

Mim Suleiman - Si Bure 2LP (Running Back)
BubbleTease Communications and Running Back team up once again for Mim Suleiman's fifth studio album, Si Bure. It's easy to imagine the Zanzibar-born-UK-based vocalist and percussionist dancing and prancing to the 14 songs featured here. The tropes of house and disco are mixed here with wonderful rhythmic adventures, infectious futuristic pop, and ultramodern African music, while the mesmerizing and addictive lyrics are sung in Swahili and deal with love and affection, freedom, oppression, unity, and everyday life. Enchanting, entrancing and entertaining all the way. Produced by house mastermind Maurice Fulton, who recently produced a string of singles for Roisin Murphy.

Iñigo Vontier - El Hijo del Maiz LP (Lumiere Noire)
Young Mexican DJ/producer Iñigo Vontier takes a trip to the far corners of the body and mind with an album of demented grooves, psychedelic take-offs, and imaginary comic strips of mystical rituals. Whether contemplative or frenetic, the collection of tracks that make up El Hijo Del Maiz takes the kitchen sink and throws it out the window: languid rhythms, haunted vocals, and mysterious percussion fuel a discombobulated house set that scrambles the listener's five senses. The demented, dystopian opener explores an imaginary jungle that harbored Mayan and Egyptian pyramids; Moroccan flutes warp Middle Eastern accents into a feverish trance; '90s-infused psychedelic house is disrupted by wonky keyboards.

Sassy J - Patchwork 2LP (Rush Hour)
Rush Hour announces their second artist compilation Patchwork, curated by one of the label's most loved family members, Sassy J. For fourteen years, Sassy J has run the Patchwork night in her native Bern and in London, with guests ranging from Theo Parrish and Little Dragon to Floating Points and MF Doom being invited to share their respective musical visions. Here you'll find forward thinking electronic music rubbing elbows with cosmic jazz and deep percussion workouts from Brazil and beyond, including UK boogie, early rave, sub-rattling techno, and radical indie soul. Features 2000Black, Nu-Era, Larry Heard, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Mr Fingers, Hanna, and many more.

Anna Homler - Deliquium in C LP (Prasens Editionen)
American performance and improv artist Anna Homler is best known for her early work as Breadwoman, originally released in the mid-80s. With Deliquium in C, Präsens Editionen presents four new tracks originating from Homler's collaborations, on which she sounds gentle and pervasive, maternal and childlike, enigmatic and familiar, playful and severe, squeaking and humming. Homler worked together with four extraordinary artists moving in the domain of electronic music in its broadest sense: Gang of Ducks' Alessio Capovilla, Mark Davies's alias The Pylon King (who, together with Homler, forms the duo Voices of Kwahn), PAN-affiliate Steven Warwick, aka Heatsick, and the late Steve Moshier, who produced the original Breadwoman tape (1985). These collaborations emphasize once more just how versatile Homler is, as a singer and as a master of her toys.

Pig Destroyer - 38 Counts Of Battery [Reissue/2000] LP (Relapse)

Extreme sound nihilists Pig Destroyer deliver savage grindcore that is both intentionally confrontational, and thoroughly pummeling. 2000's 38 Counts Of Battery is still an intense register of the band's work as ever. Fully remastered and available on LP for the very first time, 38 Counts Of Battery features the remastered Explosions In Ward 6 album, tracks from the highly sought-after (and sold out) split with Isis, their scalding demo, and much more.

Numenorean - Home [Reissue/2016] LP (Season Of Mist)

Vinyl reissue of the debut album by the Canadian black metal band's debut album.
