Crease Reader is Kyle Buckner (vocals/guitar/engineer), Gerilyn Lemons (bass), Mike Ford (guitar/keys), Brent Lafever (drums) and Alex Hatcher (guitar/lap steel). All previous residents of Cookeville, TN, the members of Crease Reader trickled into Nashville in 2013 and 2014. Originally a fun, casual project for the first couple of years, Kyle, Mike, Gerilyn and Brent gradually began jamming less and switching their focus to songwriting. Alex later joined them in 2016 on slide guitar after moving back to Nashville from Cincinnati. As the played shows around Nashville, they developed their sound, a blend of psych-pop, western, indie rock and soul. Enough songs were coming together that they decided it was time to record an album. The band began recording in Kyle's home studio, Big Beige, in Fall of 2016. The group chose to record to an 8-track tape machine in order to get as close as they could to the sonic qualities of their favorite records of the 60's and 70's. This method proved to be a challenge, however, as the tape machine malfunctioned and had to be in the shop for over six months. Instead of getting down, Crease Reader decided to use the time to further refine their sound and arrange new songs so they could be ready when the time came to press "record" again. After the tape machine was back in the studio they immediately began recording what would become their first full-length album, "Lush Button." Opting for a DIY approach, the album was written, recorded, and produced by the band. The first run of LPs was pressed at Palomino Records in Shepardsville, KY, a small family-owned pressing facility. Join us to help Crease Reader celebrate the release of their debut album 'Lush Button' with a free, all ages live performance at Grimey's!
