Greetings From Grimey's - Week of March 31st

While they keep coming up with new ways to consume music and take your dollars, leaving you nothing (no thing) to show for it, the veritable vinyl format lives on and continues its current ascent, growing over 50% last year. It's always been the preferred format of choice for the true audio enthusiast and it's been very heartening to see subsequent generations dig it so. I've lived a lifetime surrounded by these tangible art objects embedded with music, the elixir of human life, and I've been asked to share my passion at the next Who Knew Nashville event, this Thursday April 2, 5pm, at the Listening Room. It's a cool speaker series focusing on the music industry. Anyone is welcome to hear music industry icons share their stories, wisdom and predictions for what lies ahead. Two free drinks and food with your $10 ticket, available here. The last one sold out so don't delay.

We've got a number of enticing events for you this week. Join us this Thursday at Howlin' Books inside Grimey's Too for a reading and signing with Chris Gantry at 6pm. On Friday, Canadian singer-songwriter AHI will play on the deck at Grimey's Too at 6pm, followed by the latest installment of Howlin' After Dark at 7. On Saturday, Gill Landry from Old Crow Medicine Show will perform at Grimey's at 5pm in celebration of his recently released solo album. Details about these and all upcoming in-store events are below.

Although Grimey's and Grimey's Too will be open regular hours this Sunday, the Frothy Monkey coffee cafe at Grimey's Too will be closed for Easter.

It's a surprisingly extensive new release week this week, led by new ones from Sufjan Stevens, Death Cab For Cutie, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Deathgrips, Ryley Walker, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Lower Dens, Ron Sexsmith, Ringo Starr, Jesse Malin, The Staves, William Elliott Whitmore, Boz Scaggs, Jose James, new comps on the Grateful Dead, Billie Holiday, Ornette Coleman, reissues from Van Halen, Simple Minds and Glen Campbell, Ryan Adams' latest Pax-Am singles club 7" and tons more, all detailed below.

Mark April 18th on your calendar now for Record Store Day at Grimey's. We'll have all the RSD releases plus a free live concert in the back parking lot with performances by Halestorm, Self, Turbo Fruits, Those Darlins, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, The Lees Of Memory and two more special acts to be announced! Also joining us for the afternoon are Jonathan Jackson and his brother Richard, also known as the band Enation. You may also know Jonathan as the actor who plays Avery on the Nashville TV series on ABC. They'll be here at 2pm and will hang out for a few hours helping MC the event and I'm sure we can get them to do a couple of songs for us while they're here. We'll also have local craft brews and a selection from RSD beer sponsor Dogfish Head, plus food trucks, a sidewalk sale and some local vendors. I'll have more details for you, including set times for our live performers, in the next couple of weeks but go ahead and make your plans to join us at Grimey's on Record Store Day this year, Saturday, April 18th.
