Greetings from Grimey's!

Update: All slots for the Band of Horses show in the Basement below Grimey's are SOLD OUT.

We are super stoked to announce an exclusive live performance by Band Of Horses in celebration of their new album Why Are You Ok on the day it's released - Friday, June 10th, at 5PM in the Basement below Grimey's!

It's been four years since the last studio album "Mirage Rock" but the band and singer-songwriter Ben Bridwell have remained busy, releasing the "Acoustic At The Ryman" album in 2014 and Bridwell's collaboration with Iron & Wine "Sing Into My Mouth" last year. New songs were germinating and demos recorded along the way, many influenced by Bridwell's new focus on family life and his kids. After encouragement from Rick Rubin, which boosted his confidence, Ben brought in Grandaddy's Jason Lytle to co-produce and Why Are You Ok began to take shape. The new album will please longtime fans of the band. "I didn't want to just pander to our previous records or maybe even our most fruitful period, but at the same time I definitely attempted to tap into a lot of that stuff throughout," says Bridwell.

check out the supremely creative (and weird) video for lead single "Casual Party" here.

and here's a lyric video for "In A Drawer", another track from Why Are You Ok

We've got quite a few other new events to lay on you tonight as well. We're having a listening party for the new Monkees album "Good Times!" tomorrow (5/27) at 5pm. Free beer & beverages and some cool swag to give away and prizes you can win. It's a good record too with songs contributed by Rivers Cuomo, Benjamin Gibbard, Andy Partridge and more. We also announce an in-store with Kansas Bible Club on Saturday, June 4 at 5pm and Lera Lynn on Tuesday, June 28 at 6pm. The next live performance in the store is Brett Harris next Thursday, June 2 at 6pm. He's a great power pop singer-songwriter in the Big Star/ Emitt Rhodes vein. Check deets on all upcoming in-store events below.

Programming note: Grimey's, Grimey's Too, Howlin' Books & the Frothy at Grimey's will close early, at 5pm, on Monday, May 30th, for Memorial Day. Gotta get our peeps to some cookouts!

Friday is new release day and tomorrow we've got the first new album in 20+ years from the Monkees, plus the new band from Dee Dee of Dum Dum Girls - Kristin Kontrol, a new re-imagining of Miles Davis music from Robert Glasper and fresh ones from Catfish & The Bottlemen, Beth Orton, Travis, Bonnie Bishop, Daniel Romano, Tony Joe White, Mark Kozolek, Thrice, Sonny & The Sunsets, Band Of Skulls, Big Thief, Flume and more; a remixed and expanded reissue of My Morning Jacket's classic "It Still Moves", reissues from the Muffs & the Wailing Wailers; Kendrick Lamar's latest "untitled. unmastered." on vinyl, a new 7" from Goat, Gwen Stefani's latest on vinyl, vinyl reissues from ELO, Marvin Gaye and tons more, all detailed below.
